it had been a long day and al wanted nothing more than to fall onto one of the couches in the slytherin common room and spend the rest of the day laying on it. he figure he'd get up when dinner started and he'd lift his legs if dusti decided to join him but anything other than those two things and al didn't plan on moving for a while. he reached up to unclip his cloak from around his neck, taking it off and dropping it over one of the arm chairs in the room. it didn't seem like anyone else was in here yet, probably still tied up with classes or enjoying the warmth that was growing outside. usually he'd be out there with them but today, he was an insider. crossing to the couch he stretched his arms up, dropping onto the couch and kicking his shoes off onto the floor next to him, flicking his legs up onto the couch and squirming a little to get comfortable against the cushions. yep, this was it. this was going to be him for the rest of the day.

Edmund was tired. He was tired of school, of thinking about Addi. He ran into her earlier today and they had a fight with one another, not that he really expected anything different. When he thought of her, it normally started with him missing her and then him getting angry or upset. He still just ... couldn't understand what was going on inside his mind. So he tried to distract himself, but that didn't always work. At the moment he was walking into the common room, deciding that he really just wanted to be on his own. He decided he was going to collapse on the couch, but as he approached he realized someone was already there. "Al," he said lowly, moving to sit on a nearby comfy chair. "What are you doing inside on a day like this?" He asked, knowing that the question could just be rounded back on him.

"Al," a voice cut through his quiet bliss and he lifted his head off the pillow to look at who it was, having an inkling but not sure, sometimes it was hard to tell the different guys he hung out with apart, when he wasn't focused on what they were saying anyway. "oh, hey ed." he said as he saw who it was, settled on a chair nearby. "What are you doing inside on a day like this?" he shrugged a little as he let his head fall back onto the pillow, lifting his arms up to rest his hands under his head. "taking a day to myself. inside." he said, his gaze going back to the ceiling above him. that wasn't to say he didn't want ed to hang around, if he hadn't he'd have told him that he'd rather be alone so he hoped the younger kid didn't take offence to it. "you? i'm not the only one in here."

Albus seemed completely relaxed when he realized Edmund was there as well. That was a good thing, right? At least, he wasn't telling Ed to leave so Edmund was going to assume it was a good sign. He said that he was taking a day to himself, but once again he hadn't told Ed to leave. Edmund stayed where he was, not super close to Albus, but not far enough away that he couldn't hear him. He relaxed in the comfortable chair, smiling to himself. "Hiding. I figured on such a nice day, most people would be outside. So I came in." Most people like Addilyn and Xanthippe- who was out of the hospital wing now, he'd heard- and basically everyone else. "Just wanted some quiet," he added after a moment. He and Al hadn't talked in a while, but Edmund didn't know if his fellow Slytherin wanted to talk, so he just let him be.

"Hiding. I figured on such a nice day, most people would be outside. So I came in." he could understand that logic. there was something to be said about spending a nice day inside. generally it was a whole lot quieter, even the slytherins seemed to want to go out and enjoy the sun although al was sure there were some that should have burst into flames at the first sign of the bright light, his cousin lucy was one of them though. "Just wanted some quiet," al could understand that too. he'd been laying here thinking about phoenix rising and how he and anna still needed to catch up and talk one on one about it. she'd been busy with the tournament of course which had left her little time for other things, but the tournament seemed to be providing a good distraction even for the people committing the crimes around them. so it had been quiet which had let people around the castle relax a little. not much, but a little. there was one thing he wanted to bring up to anna though, the fact that cecelia rousseau was still in league with them. still allowed to be part of their group that was dedicated to standing against elaine and her people, even though the gryffindor had known contact with her sister. it bugged him, so he was going to be talking to anna about keeping the important information quiet when she was attending meetings, after all she'd been meeting with her sister and elaine, whose to say she wasn't passing anything back to elaine as a way to try and find out what the adults of the order were doing. he wasn't sure so he was going to talk to anna about it. after all the information about her had come from a reliable source. "thinking can be dangerous. remember that ed." he said with a light grin as he put his hand behind his head, taking his eyes from the ceiling to settle his green gaze on his fellow slytherin. "so how're things in the sixth year?"

Edmund smiled when Albus said that thinking was dangerous. "Who said anything about thinking?" he quipped with a quick smile. It was easy to get along with Al and at the moment Ed didn't want to do any thinking. He just wanted to relax and, now that Al was here with him, talk with his friend. "I'll keep that in ind though. Thanks for the advice," he teased again. He didn't know why he was in the mood to mess around. Maybe it was because Al seemed so serious right now. Sometimes he pretended to be happier than he was to help other friends. He shrugged, "Things are fine. Addi and I ... had a falling out." Did Al know about that? "But I've started to make a few other friends, so ..." he trailed off. He was alright, kind of. That's how he was right now.

"Who said anything about thinking?" al smirked a little and wondered how easy it was to stop thinking. he could never do it, there was always thoughts plaguing his mind and he hadn't yet found the switch to turn them off yet. "I'll keep that in mind though. Thanks for the advice," he nodded his head a little and tapped two fingers against his forehead in a mock salute and he sat up a little, resting against the the arm of the chair as he looked across the room at his friend. "Things are fine. Addi and I ... had a falling out." this was news to al. though he'd been caught up in his own relationship woes and he wasn't ashamed to admit he hadn't been bothered with keeping up with everyone elses. he figured it someone needed his help with something or needed him for something they'd have told him. "But I've started to make a few other friends, so ..." well that was always .. good? al brushed his hand back over his hair and blew out a breath. "and things with addi? think they're done for good?"

Edmund smiled a little when Albus saluted him, teasing obviously, and shook his head a little. It'd been a while since the two of them got together, even to talk, so he was interested to see what they would end up talking about. A part of him was sure it would be about himself though. Albus wasn't particularly good about talking. He liked to keep things to himself, which Edmund completely understood. That was one of the reasons they were such good friends. He noticed that Al was looking at him now, so he tried to keep his expression neutral. Then Al asked his question. Edmund took a deep, hesitating breath. "I don't know, Al. I miss her, but ... any time we get close to one another all we do is fight and I'm tired of it. I'm tired of getting angry every time I think about her, but I don't know how to feel about it." He paused, looking at his friend. "Does this make any sense?"

I'm tired of getting angry every time I think about her, but I don't know how to feel about it." well, al couldn't imagine that was very pleasant to live through. he didn't know how it was from a relationship point of view. he'd dated andy for a little while and now he was settled in his relationship with dusti but he couldn't say they'd always argued, which for him was slightly weird but he figured it was because things were different between people who were a couple. but he did know what it was like to always fight with someone and it drained you, the constant bickering and nerves being on edge, it wasn't nice so he could understand somewhat. "Does this make any sense?" he shrugged his shoulders a little and lifted his head to look at ed. "it's a relationship ed, i don't think it's supposed to make sense." he said with a slight smile, trying to reassure his friend that what he was feeling was justified. "so try not to think about her. i know better than anyone that sometimes all you need is a break."

Edmund made a face when Al said that it was a relationship and that it wasn't supposed to make sense. "Well that's just great. I think  I'd like to take a break from relationships and just find the sense in the world again," he muttered sarcastically. Really, Ed just wanted things to make sense. He didn't want to be confused or stressed. He wanted to focus on learning magic (which was still so cool to him) and Quidditch and enjoying life. Not that any of that felt like a possibility right now. He was too distracted. He nodded at Al's next suggestion. "I think I'll try that. I mean, I've been avoiding her, but that doesn't really seem to be helping. Probably because I am thinking about her a lot. I'll try a break." He nodded resolutely, even though he knew that it would be easier said than done. He sighed, trying to think about something else. "How are you feeling about graduation?" He asked. If Al didn't want to talk, he'd make that known. Otherwise, Ed would try to be careful in his questions, but he also didn't want to be the only one talking.

"Well that's just great. I think I'd like to take a break from relationships and just find the sense in the world again," al couldn't help the laugh that escaped his lips as he heard ed's muttering. he shook his head a little and tucked his hands behind his head as he looked at the ceiling. "did the world ever make sense?" he asked, curiously. things had never made sense to al. he'd never been at a point in his life when it seemed things were making sense. even his relationship with dusti there were things that didn't add up, like how they got along so well when they were almost the same but then how did they work when they were so different too? it was just one of those world things. nothing ever made sense. "I think I'll try that. I mean, I've been avoiding her, but that doesn't really seem to be helping. Probably because I am thinking about her a lot. I'll try a break." he nodded slightly as he sat himself up, tucking his legs underneath him and he dropped his arms into his lap. "find a distraction. it'll help." albus had turned to quidditch in the past but he didn't have that anymore so he worked on his magical skills when he needed to escape. it was slow, working on wandless magic but he knew that it would pay off in the end. "How are you feeling about graduation?" that was a subject albus didn't mind talking about. it was no secret that he wanted out of her, that he wanted to be able to form his own structure and he wanted to be in control over the parts of his life that he could. while working he couldn't but when he was out, living on his own he could control it. "like it can't come quick enough. the next few months are going to drag."

Al laughed at Edmund's comment and he shot a glare over at his friend, unsure whether he was really annoyed by it or not. On the one hand, making Al laugh (or even smile) was something that Ed considered an accomplishment, but he wasn't trying for that. He also didn't like it when he felt like people were laughing at him. At Al's question, however, Edmund calmed down. "No," he grumbled. The world rarely made sense, which was part of the reason why it was so annoying. When Albus suggested Ed find a distraction, he tried to think of what he could do. If they were doing Quidditch this year, that would probably help distract him, but Edmund wasn't even sure of that since Addi was on the team as well. Maybe he just needed to get up in the air and fly around. "You have any ideas of good distractions?" he asked seriously. He nodded as Al mentioned that the next few months were going to drag. "You know what you're planning on doing after?" Albus probably did, but Ed was surprised that he didn't already know what his friend's plans were after graduating. Some friend he was.

"No," he heard the grumble in ed's voice and he couldn't help but try and stop his smile from forming. he bit the inside of his lip and bit it back as much as he could. "You have any ideas of good distractions?" he thought about it for a second and leaned against the back of the couch. "quidditch? though you already play .. join some clubs? take up running? enjoy cold showers?" he threw that last part in as a tease. "You know what you're planning on doing after?" that was the one thing he didn't have to wonder about. where he was going to live was still playing on his mind but he was set on what he wanted to do. "become an auror." he said. considering he wanted to get out from his father's shadow it might strike people as odd that he wanted the same career but albus had thought long and had about what he wanted to do in life and it had never been anything other than an auror.

Brandon looked at Albus as he gave more detailed ideas of what he could do to distract himself from Addi. He was glad that he had a friend who was willing enough to help him go through this. If he actually opened up to other people, he might have found someone who would be willing to talk to him about it and help him out, but Edmund was not good at opening up to people, no matter who they were. He listened intently and then laughed. "So basically, do things to stretch myself and make me feel uncomfortable," he teased his friend back. How could one force themselves to enjoy cold showers? Ed only had to endure cold showers a few times and he definitely did not enjoy them. Ed's eyes widened slightly when Al said he wanted to be an auror. How did he not know that? "What are the things you have to do in order to become an auror?" he asked curiously. Ed didn't know what the requirements were for any jobs, so maybe this would help him figure out what to expect as he tried to look for his own job. Or even figure out what he wanted it to be.

"So basically, do things to stretch myself and make me feel uncomfortable," al smirked slightly and let his head nod forward. they were really the only sure fire ways he could think of to make someone forget about something, other than resorting to magic. after all when you were uncomfortable or in pain it was hard to focus on other things in life. "that's the gist of it yeah." he said, a slight chuckle. "will you honestly be able to think of anything else while you're freezing in a cold shower?" he rubbed his hand against the back of his neck and thought back over his years at the school. he'd only had to do one of those things once, to stop thinking about a girl but that hadn't been for a while. the perks of being young and in love he supposed, the heartbreak at the end. not that he'd ever admit it to anyone. the only time he'd ever done that was when andy and he had broken up. not that they'd had much of a relationship but still, it had been hard. "What are the things you have to do in order to become an auror?" he shrugged his shoulders slightly. it was like all jobs, get the grades needed and then see where the training took you. "the grades you need are brutal .. i thought i was doing okay before i started getting the grades i needed, it's tough."
