Dom smiled and nodded when Professor Riveras told her that she wasn't being hard to deal with and that she was just preparing him for future meetings. She grinned over at him. "Well hopefully most of them already know what they want to do, or they're easier to figure out than I am." She thought for a moment, trying to explain why it was taking her so long to choose anything. "I just ... sometimes I have a hard time figuring out what I want to do until I hear something. Then when I hear it, I just know that that is what I want to do. Does that make any sense?" She watched him curiously. "Like trying to decide what classes to take third year. I had no idea what to do and people were suggesting things left and right. Something just felt right when I heard arithmancy and ancient runes and the other classes I chose." She hoped she wasn't just babbling. That would be embarrassing, but not entirely out of character for her. "I'm kind of wondering if that's going to happen again." His next suggestion was to have Dom point out things that she'd thought of before. She shrugged. "I've thought about Quidditch, researching dragons like my Uncle Charlie, Gringotts like my dad, I once briefly considered becoming an auror," she then shook her head like the idea was horrifying. "I don't know. I just haven't found the one that clicks yet. I want something unique. Something that isn't expected and just fits me, you know?" She looked up at him. "If you'd rather me give you time to think about it and come back later, I can do that." Dom didn't want to be a burden or stress him out. After all, she hadn't had an appointment when she came here today.

Dom continued to listen to everything she had to say while still trying to think of somewhere she could start with a job interest. She mentioned not knowing what she wanted until she heard something that felt right. He was trying not to feel bad because of the fact that he'd failed to name anything interesting up until that point. He really wanted to be able to help her figure this out. He also knew that not everyone always had what they wanted to do figured out before graduation came up and that was okay. Maybe she would need some time to explore her own likes and dislikes before she came up with something that she wanted to pursue. He nodded and smiled when she asked if that made sense to him and in a sense it did. She wondered aloud if that would happen again lit up with nervous amusement. She then went on to list of the jobs that she'd thought of, all relating to her family's careers. That was something easy for her to do and rule out, he assumed, because she was around those people often enough where she was able to hear about job experiences that her family had had. That may be what turned her away from those careers. Something unique and unexpected is what she stated she wanted. Dominick took that as a cue. He'd been holding off mentioning it just because hadn't wanted to push, what felt like, his own agenda on to any of his students but he could give it a try before he really had to go back to the drawing board. "You like arithmancy enough. Have you ever thought about being a freelance arithmancer? It was something I did before I came to Hogwarts. It was definitely one of the most interesting experiences I'd ever had," he commented thoughtfully. It did fit a bit of the criteria she'd wished for. If not that then he could have her come back a bit later. Maybe he could few other ideas from his other students.

By now Dom wasn't really sure if she expected anything to come out of the conversation. Sure, she appreciated that Professor Riveras was willing to meet with her on no notice, but maybe she should have given him some. He kept giving her ideas that she turned down. It wasn't his fault, he didn't know what she wanted. Neither did she. That was the problem with the entire thing. Dom just wanted to figure it out so she could have something to say when people kept on answering her about it. Yes, that was the reason. She didn't care for herself because she was fairly certain that even if she did choose something, there was a strong likelihood that she would end up changing her mind before she actually even started working towards it. That was just the way she worked.
The professor was pretty quiet for a while and Dom wondered if her being picky was annoying him or if he was just trying to think of more ideas. She wasn't trying to be annoying and difficult. She hoped that he knew that. Then he suggested Arithmancy. Dom's head cocked to the side a little as she considered the idea for a moment. It would definitely be a job with more freedom for her, (emphasis on the freelance part) which was definitely a good thing. Huh. She smiled, "That one sounds interesting," she answered, sure that he would be pleased, but definitely not saying that for her professor. "What exactly do freelance arithmancers do?" Just whatever they wanted or was there a rhyme and reason to what they did?

Dominick had been pondering the young Ravenclaw and if her being a freelance arithmancer would fit her when she commented that that sounded interesting. He looked up and saw that she was smiling and seemed genuinely interested in what he was saying. Was this what she meant when she heard something that just sounded right? He didn't know if she was having one of those moments but if she was curious he would definitely give her as much information as she could. "Well that depends a lot on you really and what you want to do. I know my time freelancing was interesting," he smiled as he reflected on his younger years out in the field. He'd done so much, taking any jobs that he could at first just to get his name out there as an arithmancer. It was tough in the beginning of course, doing odd jobs and having to wait on jobs in order to finance living. "I did anything from mundane everyday task prediction to in-depth numerology charts and relationship compatibility to tome translations for a few cursebreakers here and there. I pretty much did whatever was available but you can pick and choose what you would like to do." Of course the mundane jobs were interesting because he got a peek into people's lives but doing the jobs for the cursebreakers were interesting. He'd traveled rather far for a few jobs. He'd been to Australia a few times and he'd been to America once or twice because of jobs. "Trust me when I say there are arithmancy jobs available everywhere so you will definitely get plenty of traveling in as well," he smiled fondly.

Dom couldn't help but grin when he said that it depended on where she wanted to go. Of course it did. She had no idea where she wanted to go, so it would depend on her. Which meant that she was going to have to figure it out. Granted, that was the dilemma from the first place. Dom didn't know what she wanted to do with herself, but she listened carefully to everything Professor Riveras said. She nodded slowly as he started explaining the wide variety of jobs he took. Dom could do that, of course and the liberty that came with being able to make her own choices of where she wanted to go and when she wanted to work was definitely appealing to her. Also working with but not as a cursebreaker sounded kind of interesting as well. She nodded and smiled. "It definitely sounds interesting," she agreed, smiling back at her professor. Of course, she wasn't one hundred percent sure if this was what she wanted, but it was definitely a good place to start. "Thank you for being so patient with me," Dom told him, sure that he'd want her out as soon as possible so he could get back to whatever he was doing before she showed up.

He finished up his explanation for her and she commented that it did sound interesting but he couldn't help trying to push the idea a little bit more than the others. "It would be an interesting fit for you, I think. As I said, there are a bunch of freelance jobs. You could see one you like and take it if it sounds interesting to you. There's no pressure, unless you put it on yourself of course. Something I definitely wouldn't recommend," he commented the last bit with a chuckle. None of the ideas that he'd come up with so far had been clear successes, so the only thing he could do was go back to the drawing board. She thanked him for his patience and he smiled once again. "It's not a problem at all. How about we meet again soon? I don't know if we've pinned down something for you just yet but in that time we can both come up with some new ideas for you," he suggested, clasping his hands together on the desk in a professional manner, "That is if you'd like. My door is always open to my students and you are free to come back at any time, school related or not." Maybe next time she would find something that captured her interest and they could talk about it more in depth..

As Professor Riveras continued to explain that he thought it would be a good fit, but that there were a bunch of other freelance jobs, Dom found herself nodding, "Yeah, I'll look into arithmancy ... and maybe a few other freelancing jobs." She wasn't really in any rush, but she found what she came here to find. She now had something to give as an answer when people insisted on asking what she wanted to do when she graduated. Honestly though, arithmancy did sound interesting. She loved the subject and would definitely enjoy the opportunity to use it outside of school. She did have a lot to think about now. She smiled as her professor laughed softly. "Oh don't worry, I don't believe in putting pressure on myself," Dom replied with a grin. That was, unless she was in the middle of a Quidditch game. In that case, bring on the pressure! She nodded when he suggested they meet again soon. "That sounds great! We can both just think a little more until then," Dom agreed. She nodded, not really wanting to thank him again, though he definitely deserved it. He was a great professor. "I'll see you in class then!" She made her way to the door, offering a short wave before leaving and heading to the library to do a little bit more research. @dominick (That can be the end or you can end it ... you're choice!)
