Royal didn’t know what to say when Adonia said she wouldn’t bother offering condolences, because he got those a lot. That was true, but he didn’t know how it was supposed to make him feel, because that was something that people had just… always done. He took a deep breath, feeling like his ribs were about to crack off his spine because his lungs were so big – and then let it out, all of the words that had jumbled in his head refusing to come out. Adonia extended her hand, and Royal hesitated for a moment, before taking it. Her hands were warm, Royal noticed, and he wondered if his own hands were damp or if he was just thinking too much about it. “How do you plan to get to know me?” He asked, even though he had already agreed to whatever it was by taking the girl’s hand. He didn’t think that carnivals were good for the kinds of conversations that let you get to know someone, but Royal had been wrong many times before.

His hand actually found hers as she reached out, and that made her smile wider. His hands were softer than she expected them to be, but also not at the same time. They had seen some hard times, clearly. He asked how she planned to get to know him and she bit her lip, pulling on his hand and backing up a little. "Talking, whispering," she suggested, her face softening a little. "Dancing," she said, excitement lacing through her tone. "There's got to be dancing somewhere, right? Do you dance Royal Shacklebolt?" she asked, cocking her head to the side and still pulling him along. She listened for music... there was random carnival music, but she wasn't sure where to find the right kind of sound...

Royal wasn’t sure how he was supposed to feel about Adonia’s plan to get to know him. Talking he could get behind. Whispering, though? And dancing? That just sounded… dangerous, but not in the life-threatening way. In the way where he could forget things that he wasn’t supposed to forget. Apparently that wasn’t a long-term plan, though, but rather one that Adonia planned to implement in the next thirty seconds. She asked him if he danced, and Royal nodded. He knew how to dance, and had done so at the Yule Ball. “I don’t think that carnival jingles are the best things to dance to.” He protested. “And even if I can dance doesn’t mean I want to.” Royal expected that protest was going to be shot down very quickly, but he figured it was worth the try.

Well, as pretty as he was, he wasn't the most exciting person to spend time with, she realized. Which, given his past year... Made sense. She wanted to get to know him more, she really did, but... She wasn't sure if the carnival was the best place to do that. "Hmm... Well, not wanting to dance is... A thing," she was going to say 'understandable' but a part of her wouldn't really mean it. Dancing always made her feel good. But she had NO idea what worked to bring about a more open and fun Royal Shackelbolt. A very strong part of her wondered why he was at a carnival at all if he was going to be so... Whatever he was. Yeah, yeah, she knew he had a lot of tragedy recently and all... But tragedy wasn't her strong suit.
"Alright. Well, I must find dancing. I'm afraid now that I mentioned it I'll go mad if I don't get it out," she gave a short bow, the straightened up, "You may follow or nay, good sir. Whatever your choice, I hope we can find some grounds in the future to become friends," she admitted. She turned, walking away, literally following her ears to find where the loudest music came from...
@royal (Your choice. You can wrap it up or have him follow, I'm good with either xD)

Adonia seemed confused by his not wanting to dance, but Royal didn’t offer an explanation. He didn’t think that she wanted one in any case. He just continued to smile pleasantly, unsure where this conversation was going, but nearly certain that Adonia was going to lead it wherever she wanted it to go. And so she did.
The girl said that she absolutely had to find dancing, and Royal just raised his eyebrows. She said that he could follow or not, but in any case she was hoping to be friends in the future. In the future, maybe he could. But the future felt impossibly far away, and Royal wasn’t sure if he would be a good friend to Adonia until he could get his head on straight. It was better to wait for that distant future, when he was sure that he wasn’t going to drag anyone else down with him. “I’ll see you when I see you, Adonia.” Royal said. That left room for interpretation, and Royal wasn’t holding himself to any timeline, which was exactly what he needed. When Adonia moved to follow the sound of the music, Royal went the other way, unsure of what his wandering would bring him other than distance from the foreign girl.
