Edmund needed a pick-me-up and there was a carnival in town. He'd never been to one before- his mother didn't approve of them- but she wasn't here right now and, judging from all the laughter coming from the place, this should be able to help his mood. Still, as he wandered around, he wasn't quite sure of what he wanted to do. There were all sorts of games and rides and Ed had no idea where to start. Maybe the best plan would be to find someone he knew and just do whatever they did. He looked around himself, wondering who might be around. So far he didn't see anyone he knew.
He was blocking traffic, standing in the middle of everything, so he moved off to the side, close to a booth, but he shook his head, a serious look on his face as he clearly refused the booth person's unspoken offer for him to participate. He wasn't in the mood to ... do whatever they were offering. He continued to look around for someone.

Adonia had just met Royal Shacklebolt, and was rather high of the experience when she saw a boy up ahead. She quickly finished her delicious, salty pretzel and moved toward him. She recognized him as a Hogwarts student who she had seen around but had never talk to... so, naturally, she approached him. She moved to stand beside him and nudged him with her shoulder, as if they were already best buddies. "You look a little lost there, sugar. Need help?" she offered, her eyelashes batting as usual. He probably wasn't much younger than her but he looked young, she thought, but in a good way. Impressionable, maybe, or perhaps just stubborn. Both of those things pointed to someone who needed to loosen up a bit and Adonia knew that she was the best person to loosen anyone up.

Edmund was taken surprise when some stranger walked up beside him, acting as if she already knew him. She nudged his shoulder and teased him, saying he looked like he was lost and offering her assistance. Ed glanced over at her again quickly as she batted her eyelashes at him, kind of nervous that he did know her and just didn't recognize her. Nope. She was a stranger to him. That was a bit of a relief. He shrugged, "I'm not lost, I just ... was looking to find someone I might know," he finished in a mumble. He didn't know why exactly he told her that. There was no way this girl would care.

Adonia grinned. This guy was just lovely, with that little mumble and the unsure nature. She lifted her arm and wrapped it around his shoulders and gave him a little squeeze. "Awe, I guess they're all just off having a good time, which is what you should be doing!" she encouraged. She looked around, trying to pick the first thing to do with this kid. Then, she spotted it and grinned, pointing at the Carousel up ahead. "Come on. Come ride that carousel with me," she said, looking at him with wide eyes, but her smile was genuine. She really did just want to help this random person have a good time. And whatever a good time meant to him, she'd try to find a way to it.

How was she so happy? A part of Edmund admired her attitude, but the other part of him was a little annoyed. Mostly because he could be annoyed. She squeezed his shoulders and he tensed up a little bit, feeling a tinge of heat touch his cheeks. Crap. He hated it when he reacted this way to girls. Mostly it'd just been Lily that affected him this was, but apparently this girl could do that too. She told him he should be having a good time and Ed grimaced. "That's why I was looking for them," he muttered, his eyes still searching the crowds, though he probably wouldn't leave now ... it's just, his friends were used to his mood swings. Some of them could even pull him out of them. Then she was pointing at the carousel, smiling at him and Ed hesitated. Ride the carousel with a stranger? A stranger who wanted him to cheer up, it seemed. "Uhhhh ... ok," he answered a little more clearly, but still hesitantly.

Ooh, he was a feisty one, wasn't he? Snarky, maybe a bit of a know it all. Oh dear, what a lovely plate he was turning out to be, and she was ready to devour him up. His cheeks looked a little red, which made her feel even better about this. He was snarky in that little response about why he was looking for the people he knew. So, he didn't like to beat around the bush. Fair enough. He hesitantly agreed to the carousel and released him from her arm. "I'm Adonia, by the way. And you are?" she asked, still her happy self but toning it down just a little bit to make her adorable new friend feel more comfortable.... for now. Discomfort was the surest way to new things, after all. And she certainly was new.

She released his arm when he agreed to the carousel and he started following her there, feeling a little more comfortable now. She gave her name and he nodded. "Adonia. Nice to meet you," he responded. "I'm Edmund ... Some people call me Ed." He almost gave her his last name, but he hated doing that. He didn't want to have a conversation about being royalty here. It was awkward enough when he met new people at the castle and had to explain it. They arrived at the carousel and he paused, not sure what to do now. Were they riding together or just going on the ride at the same time.

He said his name, only giving the first like she did, and she grinned. "And do you mind being called by Edmund instead of Ed? I much prefer it, it suits your... stature," she commented with a small smirk. He really did carry himself differently then most people, even if he didn't notice it himself. Edmund suited him. It sounded strong and firm, stubborn and proud. She liked it. They arrived at the carousel and she reached over to gentle tap his elbow, guiding him. "Let's ride the Hippogriff one together! It looks like it could fit two people. Don't worry," she turned back to him, guiding him to the Hippogriff model in question, "I won't let you fall," she joked. She took her hand off his leg in order to start climbing on. "Front or back?" she asked.

She grinned, asking if she could call him Edmund instead. Ed gave her a curious look. "Sure ... but what do you mean by it suits my stature?" A part of him was nervous to ask that. Did she recognize who he was? Most people who went to Hogwarts knew he was royalty and ignored the fact by now ... but he didn't know about the foreign students. When they reached the carousel, she took his elbow, leading him to a Hippogriff. He didn't expect her to actually want to ride one with him. She was teasing him about not letting him fall and Edmund smiled at her, hiding most of his nervousness he though. "Back," he said instantly at her question, climbing in behind her and then waiting. He didn't really know what to expect since he hadn't ever been on a carousel, but it looked like an easygoing ride so Edmund wasn't too nervous about it.

She chuckled, "because Edmund, you're so strong and proud looking," she complimented. "You carry yourself differently than others, even if you don't notice it. In fact, you may even be trying to hide it," she chuckled. "Either way, I like Edmund," she explained again. Then he said he wanted to take the back of the Hippogriff and she moved up so he could climb on. She leaned back against him just a little, "you'll need to wrap your arms around me to grab the bar or just hold onto my waist, Edmund," she instructed. What? She didn't want him to fall! He wouldn't, though. It was a pretty slowly moving circle, with just up and down motions and nothing too fast. Either way, she waited to see what choice he'd make.

Edmund huffed about her comment about his stature. He didn’t like the idea that he stood out because of that. In fact, Edmund often did try to blend in with those around him. He didn’t want to be seen as someone different, even though he most certainly was, with his family being who they were. He looked at Adonia carefully, trying to discern whether or not she knew who he was. In the end, he decided that she didn’t. Adonia did not seem like the type of person who wouldn’t make comments if she knew she was dealing with royalty.
He was sitting on the Hippogriff, but definitely did not expect her to lean against him. Edmund tensed, hoping that she wouldn’t notice, but she seemed to be the kind of person who would. She told her that he’d need to wrap his arms around her and Ed made a face, even though she couldn’t see it. He didn’t like that idea, but he decided it would be better to grab the bar instead of her. He hardly knew the girl, after all, and as angry as he was about his ex-girlfriend, he didn’t want people going up to Addi and telling her about this, though there would probably be rumors about him anyway now. “Thanks,” he mumbled, trying not to pay attention to how easy it was to reach around her. She was thin and warm and … what was he thinking? He turned his head, looking away from the girl in front of him.

He was just adorable!!! That little huff. He clearly wasn't happy with her mentioning how he walked. Really, she was sure he was trying to hard NOT to look intense -- which only made him more so. She did not notice him tense when she leaned against him, however, for she was too busy waiting to see how he was going to hold on. He reached around and placed his hands on the bar, and she just leaned into him a little more once he was steady. She saw him turn away, out of the corner of her eye, and she knew she was having that affect on him. The one she always had on people, when she tried.
"Now," her voice dropped just a little in volume, but could still be heard over the music, "don't let us fall." The ride started with a slight jolt and started to spin, very slowly, and the Hippogriff statue just slowly moved up and down. Not dangerous at all. "Isn't this fun?! You can see everyone around the edges," she giggled, looking out for someone familiar.

She started talking, and even though Ed was in front of her he could hear. She mentioned that he shouldn't let them fall and Ed tensed a little. He should've watched this ride before getting on because he didn't have a clue what to expect. So his arms tightened, as did his grip on the bar. This was so awkward. The ride started moving slowly, but Ed didn't let his guard down. How fast was it going to go, he couldn't help but wonder. Was it eventually going to be hard to hold on? But no, after a few seconds he started to wonder if it reached its peak speed already. When she spoke around, talking about how much fun it was and how she could see everyone, Ed started looking around. The ride was slow enough that he could see individual faces- not that he recognized them. He smiled, "This is kind of fun," he agreed, wondering how long they would be spinning. He still felt strange being so close to a girl he hardly knew.

Adonia let out a small laugh as his arms tightened when she told him to make sure they don't fall. The ride didn't speed up or get more dangerous in any way. She grinned as he said that it was kind of fun. "Yeah! It's a good ride to get to know someone because you can kind of talk during it," she explained. "So, Edmund, have you been enjoying the carnival so far?" She talked loud enough for him to hear but kept herself face forward. She didn't really have to talk that inhumanly loud, the ride barely made any noise aside from some music. Even that wasn't playing incredibly loud.

Edmund wasn't really sure how to respond to this girl, Adonia. He was practically holding her as they went around on the merry-go-round, which was a lot more tame of a ride than he expected, and he didn't know what he was supposed to do next. He nodded when she said that you could get to know someone during this ride. "Are you saying you want to get to know me?" he asked after a moment. He didn't feel comfortable with the situation, but that didn't mean he had to be rude. Trying to be polite was one of the only reasons why he was talking to her. She asked how he felt about the carnival and Edmund shrugged, then froze. Shrugging meant tightening his arms around her even more. Oops. "Yeah, the carnival has been fine. I mean, this is the first thing I've done here so ..." he trailed off, assuming the implication was obvious. If this was the first thing he'd done and he was enjoying it, then the experience had to be good.
