Edmund was grumpy today. Not in a good mood at all. Granted, he didn't really have a reason for that, today at least. He hadn't run into Addi or Theodosia and he'd done quite well in his classes so far, but that didn't fix anything. Maybe he simply woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Who knew? Either way, he was definitely not happy or cheerful, which meant that most people were staying out of his way. Good. It meant they knew what was good for them, because Edmund was definitely not above taking his anger out on others, which all too many people were aware of.
Right now he was on the moving staircases. He just got out of charms and was headed outside. Maybe fresh air and lots of space would help him calm down and stop being so upset over nothing. He wasn't so sure about that though. He was almost off the staircase when the bottom began to move, changing directions. Edmund groaned, really hoping he was alone on the staircase. He wasn't in the mood for idle chatter right now.

@edmund It had been a short day, thus far. One full of laughter and smiles. In Jessie's book, it was what she considered perfect. Her friends had all been in marvelous mood, which ultimately made her happy. As she was just leaving her previous class, Jessie was standing at the top of a staircase. She had only taken one descending step, she found herself swinging around to a different corridor. Dust particles fluttered around, as the archaic stones shifted. Ah, she had gotten herself stuck on a moving staircase. So be it then. Her day had been fair to good to let a little location change it. Her doe eyes drifted down to the lower part of the steps, and found that her gaze landed on Edmure Windsor. Slytherin, and Muggle royalty. A conflicting and surprising combination. The two had rarely spoken before.. but being stuck on a dusty, in-motion staircase seemed like a good setting to whip up a conversation. "Good day so far, Edmond?" She asked, a small grin tugging at her lips.

For the first few seconds, Edmund actually believed that he had indeed been lucky enough to get stuck on the moving staircases all on his own. However, he was greatly mistaken. It wasn't long before he heard a girl's voice behind him, asking if he had a good day so far. Edmund rolled his eyes at her cheery tone, wishing he could just ignore her. But they were stuck on a moving staircase. He'd have to acknowledge her sooner or later. Sooner would probably go over better. "Not really," he answered grumpily, not turning to face her. Hopefully she'd sense that his tone was not pleasant and get the hint that he wanted to be left alone, but Edmund wasn't going to hold his breath for that. There were very few people that actually left him alone when he asked them to. Granted, he hadn't asked yet, but he didn't want to have to. He wasn't in the mood for small talk. Or any kind of talk really.

@edmund At the sound of his begrudged tone, Jessie's head tilted to the side. "Well, that's no good. Any chance I could help?" Her reply was almost drowned out by the sound of scraping stones of the staircase. "Maybe some treats would cheer you up... Sneaking into the kitchen is just about as easy as getting hit by the Whomping Willow," she offered. Sure, she could make a trip down to the kitchens if it meant it would improve someone's day. Not to mention, she wouldn't mind some tart herself. The swinging steps were still in motion, plenty of time for the two to talk some more.
"Is it something serious?" she asked at last. "If something's going on, I wouldn't want to just sit here and do nothing about it." Ah, Jessie's worry-wart nature, and tendency to care too much often took her over, against her will most times. Occasionally, she would pick up on the fact that she was being annoying. But the will to help overcame the worry to be annoying.

Why was she still talking to him? Most of the time when Edmund was in a bad mood, people gave him space, instead of trying to talk to him. They also walked around him in the corridors, which a part of Edmund found hilarious, though he was in too bad of a mood to really show that most of the time. Apparently he had a good "scary" face. Or angry face or whatever. "I doubt it," he grumbled under his breath. A part of him didn't want her to hear because he knew he was being rude, but another part didn't care. At her offer about getting treats from the kitchen, Edmund looked over his shoulder skeptically and glanced her up and down. The girl looked ... familiar. She was a sixth year, like him, but in Gryffindor. He thought for a moment, trying to remember her name. Eventually he did. Jessie. "Who says I want to sneak anywhere?" he asked, lifting an eyebrow at her. Honestly, the sound of a snack sounded good, but he didn't want to say that. Still, he hadn't said no outright ... Edmund didn't know what he wanted to do.
He shook his head and turned forward again so his back was to her. "No, it's not serious. Nor is it something that you can fix," he said in a low voice. He didn't want her to try and fix his problems because he didn't even know what they were at the moment. He was just ... angry. He didn't know how to deal with that either.

Her eyebrows knitted together on her forehead, as she gazed down at boy at the bottom of the staircase. She didn't catch what he had said, but she could tell it hadn't been on the friendly side. Jessie rolled her eyes. "Who doesn't want to sneak into the kitchen for treats?" Okay, she was getting a bit annoyed now. If it weren't for the books in her arms, she would have crossed her arms. Settling for a small huff of air instead, she shot him a look. Fine, she thought to herself, you can't help those who don't want it. She refused to say another word to him...However, only a few moments of silence passed, before she finally gave in to talking to him once more. "Listen, I'm just trying to be friendly here. I'm going to the kitchens. If you want treats as well, I'll be more than happy to have your company," as her minuscule speech came to an end, the steps slid into place. notes:

He still wasn't looking at her, which was fine for Ed. In fact, he was glad that the girl hadn't actually approached him or tried to sit beside him or something. That would make it hard for him to keep this attitude going. The thing was, he didn't want anyone to "fix" his attitude at the moment. Sometimes being upset was relaxing for him. As strange as it was, much of his childhood was spent that way, so he felt as though he knew how to deal with things more when he was upset than when he wasn't. "People who just feel like walking in," he grumbled at her. Edmund didn't sneak, unless he was trying to get away from his siblings. She didn't say anything else to him, which was nice. When she wasn't talking, Ed could pretend like he was on his own. Then she started again, saying she was trying to be friendly. Then she said she'd be more than happy to have his company and Edmund scoffed, turning to look at her as he finally stepped off the stairs. "Really? You'd be happy to have my company?" he muttered. Really though, treats were starting to sound good ... but he wasn't going to tell her that. Maybe he'd just wait a bit and go down there on his own.
@jessie (I am sorry for the punk-ness of my dear Edmund today)

Once again, her day has been good thus far. And she wasn't going to let the crabby attitude of a Royal pain in the butt ruin it. To be honest, Jessie didn't understand why some people didn't try to make their day better as it went on. She could understand waking up on the wrong side of the bed. But Jessie would at least do something throughout her day to improve it and make it better than it had started out. When he asked if she would mind he she had company, she gave him a startled look. "Not at all. If I didn't want to be around you, I wouldn't have invited you. You might have to put your attitude on simmer, but I'd still be open to having company." She didn't wait another second for him to consider it any longer. "Let's just go. I promise you'll be quite happy you went after you have something sweet in your stomach." She pushed past him, starting on her way to the dungeons. x

How was this girl continually cheerful? It was annoying and inexplicable and a part of Edmund just wanted to be rude to try and see if he could wipe the smile off her face. However, a larger part of him was starting to feel guilty. He knew better than this and as a general rule, he was getting better at talking to people without wanting to attack them. Then she said she really did mean to invite him and Ed hung his head for a second. Everyone he cared about would be ashamed with his behavior right now. He was considering what to say and how he could apologize when she pushed past him, saying that they should just go and that he would feel better after eating something sweet. "Hey," he called, hoping she would stop. "I'm sorry. I- it's been a hard day, but you didn't deserve that. I'd be happy to go down to the kitchens with you." He forced a smile, trying to prove that he would be better if she didn't tell him to leave.
