Rosie didn't know how to explain house elves. She looked to Thalia for a bit of help there, "House elves are chefs." she agreed, "but they also clean the castle and they make the beds warm when it's cold outside." she explained. "They're basically servants... but the ones at Hogwarts are happy. And house elves like to serve wizards so long as they're treated nicely." she attempted an explanation. "They're actual elves that keep the house, I guess that's how they got their name." the girl giggled.
"I've got Ronald Weasley." Rosie smiled taking the card out of her chocolate frog box. She wasn't a collector of chocolate frog cards, but it was fun to see who they got. Ron Weasley was one that she seemed to get often. She saw Juliet miss the chocolate frog and giggled, and then Thalia grabbed out her candy stash and tossed them both a sugar quill, those were actually Rosie's favorite. "Thanks." she smiled to her friend, feeling fairly proud that she wasn't the only member of her dorm with a candy stash. "That's okay, Juliet. You're welcome to any of mine, my mom told me she'd send me more when I need it since we can't actually go to Hogsmead ourselves until our third year." she insisted with a friendly smile. She unwrapped her sugar quill and began to suck on it. She thought the third years only Hogsmead rule was lame, but she wasn't one to question authority.

Only when Juliet asked about the house elves, did Thalia realize that the other girl was not from the wizarding background. "You're a muggleborn?"she asked and hoped that her tone did not come as anything but merely inquisitive. She may have been in a halfblood family, but that did not mean that she was going to boss around the others like a know-it-all. And as Rosie looked at her for help, Thalia gave a smile and said "house-elves are little magical beings who like to help the wizards. Usually they work for a family, and even at hogwarts there are a lot of elves according to mum, and they can be seen in the kitchens, and when you're sleeping they would come and clean up our dorms and common rooms"adding to what Rosie said. She hoped that the girl understood it, and they did not confuse her more than necessary.
As Juliet missed the catch, Thalia smiled and said "that's fine" and then looked at Juliet closely hoping if she would need any help. As Rosie mentioned that she got Ronald Weasley, Thalia grinned and said "I have about six of him". She the picked up her chocolate card and holding it up she said "it's Professor Dippet ...again.. wish I could get one of the founders". As Thalia gave the quills to her dorm mates, she took her own and began to eat it, enjoying the sweet sugary taste. As Juliet said that she did not bring anything, Thalia just smiled and said "no worries, I am sure that mine and Rosie's would be more than enough for us today. Besides, as Rosie said.. our mothers would send us some more". She was not going to make the other girl feel left out or anything. Nope, not happening.

Juliet frowned a little when Thalia asked if she was a Muggleborn, something Juliet was already a bit self-conscious about by her first day. Still, Thalia's tone was more curious than anything, and Juliet definitely understood that; she had been nothing all day today if not curious. "Yes, I am," she answered, choosing not to give a long explanation on the fact that her father had no magic even though he was born into a magical family. When her friends described house elves, Juliet wore a thoughtful expression on her face as she wondered why those house elves did so much for wizards. "They sound really helpful," Juliet thought out loud.
She observed Rosie and Thalia reading off the names of their "chocolate frog cards," and then Juliet followed them. "Mine says Minerva McGonagall," she read. "Interesting!" She looked up from her card to see that her fellow Hufflepuffs were beginning to eat their quills, so Juliet was able to deduct that the sugar quills were, in fact, candy. She mimicked their behavior yet again and tasted the tip of the quill. It brought a huge smile to Juliet's face when the other two reassured her that it was alright she hadn't brought any sweets. "You two are so nice," she said, and she really meant it. She hoped all of the people she met at Hogwarts would be as kind as Thalia and Rosie were. "What do you think you are looking forward to most this year?" she asked both of them, to learn more about them and also to learn more about Hogwarts without sounding annoying.@kyles2 rose harriet granger-weasley

With the house elf issue resolved, Thalia asked Juliet, their new friend if she was a muggle born and Rosie began to wonder why. She knew Thalia better than to think she was against muggle-borns, and she was fairly sure the girl would not have been sorted in Hufflepuff, house of the kind and loyal if she was against muggle-borns, but the girl still found the question maybe a little forward, perhaps she was just reading too much into it. Rosie, who was half muggle, literally saw no difference, it was about ability and talent rather than blood.
"McGonagall is a good one!" Rosie insisted when Juliet read off her card. She was already having so much fun, and while she knew she still had unpack and set up her stuff, she was enjoying just lounging with her friends. Juliet asked what they were most looking forward to an Rosie could answer simply and honestly, "I'm an only child, besides the occasional sleepover, It's always just been me and my parents. I'm excited to live with my friends and learn about magic with them, like teammates." she added a little sports reference to her sentence. Even as an 11 year old, Rosie was a big fan of sports. She sat up on her bed to better hear her friends answers.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Cause right now Everything is new to me. [attr="class","itokaytext"]Thalia knew that her question was a little too forward, but looking at the two girls she realized that they might take offense if she would not explain herself. With a small smile, she spoke up "I did not mean for that question to upset you or anything, i was just curious is all"and when the girls answered back that she was indeed a muggleborn, Thalia added "I only asked because I wanted to help, there are a lot of things which might seem new to you, and which are something me and Rosie have known for a long time like house elves".Well it was going to be fun, she thought, if Juliet was a muggleborn then Rosie could help her out and so can she."So from the next time we talk, we will tell you things like those, without you having to ask us" said Thalia with a smile and hoped that the girls understood her meaning behind the question. But then again, Thalia had known it from ehr parents that the prejudice was till there and the supremacists are still out.
When Juliet read her card, Thalia grinned and said "I have a few a cards of her with me."And all of a sudden she grinned at Juliet and said "you should start your own collection of chocolate cards, I can help you with that". And it was not much of a deal, considering that Thalia likes chocolate a lot, and she could always help the girl out by giving her extra cards. When Juliet asked what they were looking forward to, Rosie was the first to speak. And then Thalia added "what are you looking forward to?"and then she spoke up adding her own "just like Rosie, I too am an only child. And I am looking forward to meeting a lot of people and make loads of friends."When Rosie mentioned team mates, it was Thalia's turn to groan. "I hope you were not talking about quidditch when you said that". She knew that Rosie too was born in a house filed with sports. And quidditch was the world into which Thalia herself was born, and as she grew up it became too much for her to take in and in the end she decided to never play the game. A few exceptions will be made, that is if there were none on their house team who were good.

"No, it's fine," Juliet shrugged when Thalia explained that she hadn't meant to hurt her feelings by asking if she was a Muggleborn. In fact, she actually appreciated that Rosie and Thalia were so eager to explain the magical world to her, even though she was a tad bit embarrassed about not knowing anything. She wished her father had taken the time to tell her about the wizarding world so she would have at least known a little about what to expect, but then again, he didn't know much about the wizarding world either.
"Yeah, that would be fun!" she agreed after Thalia suggested she start her own chocolate frog card collection. She set her Minerva McGonagall card on her beside table to keep it safe as she listened to her friends talk about what they were looking forward to at Hogwarts. She thought it was so sweet how they both were excited to meet new friends. It was hard for her to imagine what life as an only child would be like, since it felt like she had had siblings around for forever. When asked what she was looking forward to, Juliet had to think for a second. What was she not looking forward to? "I think just learning how to do magic. It's like something out of a fairytale, only it's real," she answered, thinking she sounded pretty dumb after the words had already left her mouth. "And hanging out with you guys, obviously," she added, grinning.
She laughed at her friends' exchange over Rosie's use of the word "teammates." While she did not fully understand Quidditch, Juliet knew enough about it to know they were referring to sports, since Rosie had sort of explained the game to her on the train ride. "We really are going to have a ball here, aren't we?" she joked, taking the chance to tease Thalia. "Okay, so maybe that one wasn't that good..." she admitted, but she was still having fun.rose harriet granger-weasley @kyles2

Rosie absolutely agreed with her friend, she would be happy to explain anything to Juliet, and to Jamie also, the other girl the two had met on the train who didn't know anything about the world of magic. She wondered where the other girl was and hoped that everything was okay and she hadn't got lost already or anything. "I don't actually collect them," Rosie admitted about chocolate frog cards, she handed her new, Ronald Weasley card, though the face had disappeared over to Juliet. "So if you want, you can have any more of mine that I get." she offered, knowing Rosie, there would be hundreds and thousands of chocolate frogs in her future. Rosie stood up and walked back over to her chest. "I guess we should unpack, huh?" she asked, taking a look at all of the things she and her mother had stuffed in there.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] That’s how its supposed to be Living young and wild and free [attr="class","itokaytext"] Thalia gave a smile when Juliet was okay with that. Well, that went well she said in a dramatic voice and plomped back on her bed, enjoying the softeness of it beneath her. And when Rosie mentioned not collecting them, Thalia rolled over, and had her arms plopped up on a pillow as she lay there on her stomach, and looked at the girl with wide eyes and spoke up "I still don't understand why you don't collect them"and shrugged at the end. She heard Juliet talk about what she wanted to do, and grinned at her reference to fairy tales and said "yeah, this is a fairy tale indeed. We are in a castle in far away land and some day we find Prince Charming, yup that it about it"and laughed at her own words. "You are stuck with us Julie,"she said to th other girl with a wide smile.
When Juliet teased her, Thalia grinned and said 'very funny". And she was distracted by Rosie's words about unpacking, and she forgot all baout the teasing. "Yeah we should start, between me and my nanny, we would've stuffed a lot of things in that"she said pointing to her own trunk at the bottom of her bed.

Juliet giggled at Thalia's dramatic fall, but looked over to Rosie when she offered Juliet her Ronald Weasley card. "Oh, thanks!" she said before sitting it neatly next to her other chocolate frog card. She was, again, amazed by her friends' limitless generosity. She hoped she would be able to find a way to return all of the kindness Thalia, Rosie, and Jamie had shown her.
At Thalia's comparison of Hogwarts to a fairy tale, Juliet raised an eyebrow and said, "Prince Charming? I don't know about that." Ah, there she was again, the ever-bossy Juliet. She, personally, thought eleven was a little too young for dating, and there would be plenty of time for that in the years to come. Still, she chuckled when Thalia claimed that Juliet was stuck with them. "In time, you'll start to think you're stuck with me," she joked.
She agreed with the other two Hufflepuffs that it was time to start packing. She went to her own suitcase and began unpacking her various possessions, which were mostly books. "You have a nanny?" Juliet asked curiously when Thalia mentioned it.rose harriet granger-weasley @kyles2

Rosie began to unpack her trunk while the two girls joked around her, she was glad that they were getting along so well, she felt extremely lucky that she got such a fantastic roommate situation in a house that already felt like home. Hufflepuff was perfect and this was just the start of it all, that thought both comforted her and overwhelmed her. "Prince charming can wait a few years." Rosie agreed with a smile, "We're not even old enough to go to Hogsmead, what makes us think we should date?" she added with a shrug. Of course, she wouldn't be upset with anyone if they did decide to date now, she personally just knew she wanted to wait. Plus, she was almost sure her mother would freak out if her 11 year old had a boyfriend. She pulled out a stack of empty hardback journals with various covers and tossed them on the bed for now, unsure if she should put them in her nightstand with her candy and current journal, or back in her trunk or somewhere under her bed for storing. She also pulled out a stack of sweaters and an old photo album, "I think my mum thinks I'll forget her and dad." Rosie admitted holding the photo album before tossing it onto the bed with everything else. She also pulled out a sack of wizard coins that fell with a jingle onto the bed. Rosie nodded in response to Juliet's question about Thalia's question, though she knew Thalia would go into it further.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Feel it on my finger tips, hear it on my window pane [attr="class","itokaytext"] At the responses she got for her prince charming comment, Thalia stuck her tongue out and said "oh you sillies, I was talking about when we are in our last years" and with a very curious expression she asked the others "do you even want to go out on a date?"she asked them wanting to know more about the girls. It was not as though dating was on the top of Thalia's bucket list. She had always had trouble when it comes to understanding others feelings after all and she never knows if there would be a chance for her to find love or even date.
As Juliet asked about her nanny, Thalia sighed a little. it was bound to come out soon enough. Let's get it over with she thought with a shrug. "My parents are both quidditch players and are always busy with games, practice and such.. so they uhh hired a nanny to look after me and she was also my governess to be honest, she has been with me ever since I could remember" said Thalia with a small smile. She liked her nanny, the woman was always kind to her and taught her practically everything which Thalia now knows.
She giggled at Juliet's words and said "well then let's get used to each other". As Rosie began to unpack and talk about her mother, she gave a small smile and said "wow that is soo sweet of her, remind me later, I need to see all those pictures", even though they have seen each other since they were kids, she still liked to look at pictures. It often saddened that her parents weren't there for her when she needed them nor did they have any pictures together to make an album out of it. All she had was a scrap book full of articles about her parents. As much as she hates it, she is actually very happy that her parents are soo great at quidditch and were quite famous.
Thalia opened her trunk and true to her earlier words, she found it to be full with various things. While she would not say that they were not required or of use for her, she knew that they were a little on the over side. She slowly pulled out her scrapbook, a family photo of when she was just a toddler who was shifting between her parents and giggling. She set that picture on the bedside table and then began pulling out the books she had with her for casual reading and placed them inside the drawers. Picking out her scarves and headbands that she likes a lot and she placing them carefully on the bed, she looked at the other two and asked "okay quick and very important question what are your favorite and least favorite colors? I like the color black and I don't like orange" she said smiling.

Juliet continued to unpack, now beginning to fold some of her robes, as Rosie and Thalia continued talking about having a "Prince Charming." Juliet pondered for a moment when Thalia asked if they even wanted to date. "I don't know, maybe if someone nice asks me when I'm a bit older. I'm not going to go looking or anything, though," she shrugged.
"Oh, that's cool," Juliet commented when Thalia explained why she had a nanny. Although Thalia didn't seem to really like talking about it, it didn't make a difference to Juliet if her friend was raised by a nanny. She had only asked because it was a little unusual. When Rosie pulled out her photo book and Thalia a family photo, a smile appeared on Juliet's face. She loved seeing other people who cared about family, since her family was so important to her. Still, she had to get used to the fact that magical pictures actually moved. Literally, the people in the photos would move around and wave and sometimes even leave their pictures. Juliet dug through her suitcase and found a few family pictures of her own, but hers were not magical and didn't move. She put one of them up on her bedside table as well, one with both her mother and her father in it, reminding her of happier times when her parents were still together.
"Favorite? Blue. And least favorite... Hmm... Gray. It's just kind of boring," Juliet replied to Thalia's question as she finished organizing her school robes. "And my question is... What's your favorite animal? Magical or not. I like owls! I hope my dad will get one for me eventually," she said.rose harriet granger-weasley @kyles2

"I would." Rosie nodded when Thalia asked if they even wanted to date. Of course she expected to meet a boy at some point during her Hogwarts years, maybe not the man she was going to marry, but someone who would take her on her first date and give her her first kiss and make her heart do flips in her chest. She was in no hurry for it to happen, but from what her mom told her nearly everyone ended up dating someone at some point, they were teenagers and that was what they did to get to know other people and to get to know themselves.
Thalia insisted that she needed to see the photos and Rosie shrugged, she didn't mind if anyone wanted to look through them they were a mixture of muggle photos and magically enchanted photos. "You're probably in a few of them." she admitted. She could remember seeing pictures of her and Thalia with each others families at Quidditch matches, somewhere in the book. Juliet pulled out a few photos also and Rosie smiled, they were going to make the room so much homier than it already was, which she didn't really think possible.
Thalia insisted that they answer what their favorite and least favorite colors were and Rosie, who wasn't a very quick thinker, was glad that Juliet went first. "Uh, I do actually really like yellow, and I think my least favorite is brown." she admitted. Juliet then asked what their favorite animal was and Rosie began to feel a little flustered, where they all asking questions, had she missed that? She had mostly figured that they would get to know each other overtime rather than while unpacking on their first night. "Um.. I-I like Hippogriffs." she stated. Rosie had always been interested in magical creatures and couldn't wait for year 3 when she could start taking the class, though she expected to join the Magical Creatures club as soon as possible.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Josefin Sans"] Here's to you and I Raise 'em to the sky [attr="class","itokaytext"] Thalia was glad that her new friend was interested to have dating life. While she was not much of a pursuer, Thalia would love to have some one in her life too, not now but at one point. She watched on as Juliet too took out her family photo which made all the three girls the type to be attached to their families. While Thalia was not much 'attached' so to speak, she sure wanted to have that kind of relationship and at times she does. It's just all soo confusing for her. When Rosie mentioned that she was in a few, Thalia gave a grin and said '' ooh from the quidditch matches i guess"if not, well she was not sure she would remember her little self whose picture was being taken.
When the girls mentioned their favorite colors, she nodded and said "i like black actually, and orange is my least favorite". She then smiled at Juliet's question and Rosie was the first to answer, which made Thalia grin at the expected answer. When it was her turn to answer, she did not know what to give the answer as. Considering that she never had a pet till she got her letter. And that was when she had got Diamond. When Juliet mentioned that her's was an owl, she gave a grin and said "you should see mine then, Diamond is rather majestic to look at"as she thought of her lovely owl. "I think I like dogs, puppies to be precise. Would love to have one when i grow up old". And that was when Thalia felt sleepy for the first time in the night and she yawned and she softly murmured, "i am feeling sleepy". And promptly she snuggled into her pillow and said "good night you both", and who were they to say anything, after all they were only 11 year old who just ate a scrumptious feast and were tired of travelling.

Rosie seemed a little surprised by the rapid fire questions, so Juliet didn't ask any more, but she did find the sound of Thalia's owl quite interesting. When Thalia said she was feeling sleepy, Juliet nodded in agreement with a yawn. "Me too," she said. She was just about done unpacking by now, and what little she had left to put up could wait until tomorrow. She set her suitcase aside and curled up under her blankets, feeling cozy and safe. "Good night," she said to both Rosie and Thalia, before closing her little eyes and drifting off to sleep.
It had been a long, exciting day, one that she would remember for the rest of her life, and she couldn't think of a better way to end that day than with her two new best friends. rose harriet granger-weasley @kyles2 (The end)
