Talking. About why she... left... she remembered ditching him that other night. After she made the switch, just running out on him. But then she left for three months... was he really thinking about her during that time? She'd actually crossed his mind? What exactly did Kara do with him? The poor guy looked confused, and Karen couldn't even remember his name. She sighed, trying to decide what to say, and as she did he asked how Norway was. "It was fine," she said, waving her hand as if to brush the question aside. She sighed, "listen, can I buy you a drink?" the guy had scene her make a tense switch twice now, and she figured she may as well tell him about her. She never really kept it a secret, anyway, and it was just easier to tell people.
Especially people she was kind of interested in getting to know...

Apparently the question about Norway hadn’t been the way to go, because Karen just brushed him off, saying that it was fine. Poe was good enough with people to know that that line of questioning was dried up, and he was glad that Karen asked him a question instead. It was a surprising inquiry, Poe would give her that, but he only paused for a beat before responding. “Sure. I’d like that.” He paused again. “I’m not sure if we’re likely to find anything that won’t rot our teeth out in this place.” Poe said. The carnival was definitely designed with the Hogwarts students in mind. Even if it was fun to gallivant around and play games, there was no way that any self-respecting adult would eat half of the food in the carnival. Poe didn’t much fancy the idea of trying to force down some syrupy, overly-sugary drink while getting to know Karen, which meant they were going to have to depart the carnival… together. “To Hogsmeade?” He suggested

He paused for a sort second before saying sure, and then he went on to talk about the sweets issue of the carnival and she smiled just a little, giving a short nod. She hadn't noticed she was even at a carnival until he said that, then her senses figured it out pretty fast. She had forgotten to check her surroundings when she came into power. But, it was clear not that pretty much every drink and item of food was designed for kids and teens. He suggested Hogsmeade and she nodded. "Yeah," she said softly. She really felt kind of bad for treating him... kind of with disgust at first. She was sure he was being led on, it wasn't his fault. She normally didn't interfere with Kara's interests but... something about this one.
She wouldn't deny to herself that she had thought of him too, if not only because Kara mentioned him in the journal a few times in Norway. She had never really thought of anyone. Not the way Kara had. Kara was good at flirting, good with guys and girls and whoever. She was better at making friends. She even had a boyfriend during their school days for a short time but... it was hard with Karen still being there. Karen was normally in control, too, which was hard on the guy. Kara was just better at all this. Kara was just better at people.
"I'd..." she wasn't sure what she was going to say. But she looked around. "Uh, which way?"

Some sort of change seemed to have come over Karen – she had been so friendly and talkative before, and now she was just responding to him in monosyllables. Poe was trying to puzzle out what he could have said to upset her, but that was difficult, since he was also trying to figure out what to say next to keep her from becoming more upset with him. Eventually, Poe decided just to ignore the past and the personality chance. Maybe something bad had happened in Norway that she didn’t want to relive, and that was why she was behaving so strangely. Yeah, that seemed possible. Now he just needed to answer Karen’s question of which way it was to Hogsmeade. “That’s a very good question.” Poe said with a laugh. He glanced around to try to get his bearings – dragging Karen away from the wheel to talk to her had disoriented him a little – and then figured out the direction they needed to go in to get them out of the carnival. He considered offering Karen his hand, but with the sudden distance there seemed to be between the two of them, that didn’t seem like a good idea. Instead, he checked behind himself every couple meters as he led them out of the carnival and onto the streets of Hogsmeade. Poe gestured towards the Three Broomsticks, holding the door for both of them before choosing a table in the back. “Much quieter here.” He commented, which was strange considering how crowded the pub normally was when the students were out and about. He supposed the carnival took precedence.

His laugh made her relax a little. But then relaxing a little made her tense up more in the next second. He wasn't sure where they were either, but she let him try to figure it out. She didn't know this place well enough to figure it out herself. Then he started to lead them out the carnival and she followed behind at first, before stepping up to walk beside him once they were in town. He opened the door for her and she nodded at his comment. "Yeah. Which will be good for our purposes," she said matter-of-factually. Okay, well, that sounded creepy. She cleared her throat and moved past him into the pub, taking a seat quickly and waiting for him to join her.
Once he did, she immediately leaned forward a little, but her posture was still a bit rigid. "I'm sorry for my behavior- erh...." why couldn't she remember his name! She searched her head for a second but came to nothing. "But for some reason my consciousness just doesn't want to leave Kara alone with you," she took in a deep breath.
"Kara is who you met that first night, and who you were just talking to. She really liked you, likes you, maybe," she shook her head, realizing that was unimportant, "but it gets complicated. I mean, we're two people in the same body. Does that make sense?"

Karen said that the quietness of the pub would be good for their purposes, and Poe made another face at her. What did she mean, their purposes? Just getting to know each other…? Somehow he didn’t think that was what she meant, because they could still talk to each other when everyone else was chattering. People did that all the time. He sat across the able from her, automatically leaning in a little when Karen did, as if they were sharing some sort of secret. She said that she was sorry for her behavior, but Poe didn’t have enough time to brush off her worries when Karen said that her consciousness didn’t want to leave him alone with Kara. What the hell did that mean? And who the hell was Kara?
That second question was answered almost immediately. Kara was who he had met the first night, and she liked him? Okay, that made sense, because he liked the person that he had met, too. But that brought up a whole new set of questions – like who was talking to him now, and why Kara had introduced herself as Karen, and what was going on. Once again, some of his questions were answered. “So you’re Karen. And I was talking to Kara earlier. And you share a body.” He summarized.

He summarized and she nodded slowly, her brow furrowing with worry. "Yes. She probably didn't correct you because she knows it can get confusing to people, but we use different names. Makes it easier for us," she explained. "She's... the one who looks for a fight at night," she almost rolled her eyes, almost, "and I'm the one who handles most of the day to day. We're a cursebreaker," she knew that her words were probably making his head spin and she bit her lip hard for a moment as she tried to think of a way to explain it better.
"It's like a multiple personality disorder, but different... We think maybe us being magical has something to do with it, we don't know. But yes. Hi. I'm Karen," she was suddenly holding her hand out to him for a handshake!? What!?

Poe nodded when Karen – actually Karen, this time – said that Kara probably didn’t correct him because she thought it could get confusing. Well, life was confusing, and you didn’t see Poe complaining about that! He didn’t know why it grated on him so much that Kara would think him unable of distinguishing the two, but it did. From the way Karen explained it, they were two different people who just so happened to share a body, and so it made sense that they wanted different names. Poe was upset that he hadn’t gotten to call Kara by hers. “Is that why you were sent to Norway? Curses?” He always associated Cursebreaking more with Egypt and Africa, but maybe the Norwegian wizards had something to hide.
“Nice to meet you.” Poe said, taking Karen’s hand when she extended it. Even if he felt like he already knew her, that obviously wasn’t the case. “I’m Poe. If you didn’t know that.” He twisted his mouth in an awkward grimace. Hopefully he didn’t seem too stupid for saying that.

She nodded when he asked if that was why she was sent to Norway. "Yeah. There was some issue with this ancient relics and the trolls there. They're normally peaceful but... well, it wasn't pretty," she didn't go on, not sure if he really wanted to hear the details right away. Though, he had asked... so maybe he did. "It.. made them not so peaceful. Some dark wizard was trying to cause trouble. Affected nearly one hundred small rock trolls," she explained, rolling her eyes.
Then he took her hand and shook it, and she grinned at him. He gave his name, "Oh! Yes! She wrote that!" her eyes widened right after she said it and she took her hand back slowly. "Um... we write to each other. Kara and I," she explained. She took in a deep breath and nodded again, "any questions?" it was just easier to get it all done at once...

Poe listened, interested, when Karen explained that she had been sent to deal with an issue with ancient relics and once-peaceful trolls that were in a froth because of a dark wizard stirring up trouble. He made a sympathetic noise. “Sounds like you had your work cut out for you.” Poe said sympathetically. The Auror department had enough on their hands without a rock troll rebellion in Norway leaking into Britain, so Poe was glad that there were people like Karen to keep that from happening.
Poe arched his eyebrow when Karen said that Kara had written his name. That wasn’t weird at all. Keeping a journal did make sense, if there were two people who had to account for their time in the body, but it was strange to think that Kara had written about him… and Karen had read it. Poe could feel a flush creeping up his neck, and was glad when Karen changed the subject. “Nope, no questions.” He said. “It’s just a lot to digest.” Learning that someone you liked was actually two people did tend to be difficult to comprehend.

She nodded when he said that it sounded like her work was cut out for her. Then, when she mentioned Kara writing his name, her own face started to flush a little. He said he had no questions, that it was a lot to digest "Well... for now, let's just drink. And maybe talk about something else. Then I'll get out of your hair," she said with a soft, nervous chuckle.
She got up and ordered drinks after finding out what he wanted and brought them back. The rest of the afternoon wasn't bad, but it Karen didn't stay for long. She was embarrassed, incredibly, and wanting to get home to write in her journal, drink some water, and then sleep for ten years.
