Irina chuckled and shook her head a little. “My mother tried to drill it in my head I was to play Quidditch since I was oh...about three years old?” she admitted, smiling a little. “My dad, surprisingly was the one who didn’t push it as much, though he did love to take me on little flights on his broom around the countryside. Without being spotted by Muggles of course,” she continued, hurriedly adding on that last part. She didn’t want people to think her father was breaking the Statute of Secrecy, when she was about ninety-nine percent sure they had never been spotted due to keeping in the wooded and secluded area of their property. “My brother plays professional Quidditch, so at least one of us is their dream child,” she told him somewhat cynically. Her baby sister Raina had had a bad accident on a broomstick during her first year, so there was no shot of the youngest Krum playing Quidditch, and Nevena had never really shown interest either. Irina just happened to be the most vocal of the three about not wanting to play. “They’re both retired now, so I think it’s more about wanting a reason to go to games. They always have a reason though; my dad mentors a lot of players in the game,” she mused.
Irina’s smile grew as Daniel called himself rubbish. “Seems like the Brits are rubbing off on you,” she said teasingly, though she could relate. Her accent when she was younger had been much more Bulgarian, but over the years spent in Northern England it had changed over. She personally thought she sounded like she was from Northern Ireland, but she didn’t know exactly how that had happened. “It comes with the territory. We’re from Bulgaria, but I don’t sound Bulgarian. You probably wouldn’t have known if you didn’t know my surname,” she commented understandingly. She crossed her arms and nodded towards his wand. “Show me,” she half-asked, half told.

"Personally I enjoy playing Quidditch but then again I couldn't really imagine how I would feel about it if I was pressured that earlier to start playing." Daniel explained as it was hard for him to put himself in her shoes here. He never had any pressure to do anything from his family besides stay out of the way but he learned to do that early. It wasn't hard either when the man was rarely home to begin with. Still it was good to hear that her father wasn't as pressuring as her mother. "Well once they can realize not everyone in the family wants to be part of the family tradition I suppose they'll be proud of whatever you want to do." He couldn't be sure but could only assume. As far as he heard her family seemed nice enough just a little pushy on playing Quidditch. He laughed a little as the girl explained why they probably wanted her in Quidditch was for another excuse to go to Quidditch games. "Just tell them you're saving them from having to cheer for two different teams. Unless you and you're brother would have ended up on the same team. Just tell them to imagine if both your teams were against each other."
Daniel laughed a little as the girl caught on to what he had said too. "It would seem so," as much as he didn't want to admit it, it was hard to fight it when it just slipped out like that. The girl went on to explain where she was from and how she used to have an accent but lost it over the years. Honestly Daniel had a harder time with the accents here than back home. Either it was just him or Europe just seemed to have more types of accents all over the place than back home. "No, probably not." The girl asked him, in a way, to show him his attempt at wandless magic while motioning to his wand. "Bossy." Daniel said with a smirk just teasing the girl as he picked up his wand and lightly tossed it a bit further. He concentrated and waved his hand and his wand came back a little faster than he wanted and the wrong way as it poked him right in the palm, it hurt a little but nothing to complain about. "I still need a lot of work obviously, as you can see." Daniel said with a laugh as he picked up his wand and bushed it off.

Irina chuckled wryly at Daniels’ comment. “You’d probably hate it as much as me. Imagine someone telling you your whole life that you HAD to do something and if you didn’t you’d disappoint them, especially if it’s someone you care about.” She explained. Irina had mastered the act of screaming into a pillow from her second year on at Hogwarts. She was sure her roommates had noticed, but after awhile they had all accepted it as ‘oh, Irina’s got another letter from her mother.’ She had been lucky this year that at long last, Elena Krum didn’t pressure her to join the house team, but she had a feeling that was more to do with the Quidditch House Cup being cancelled in favor of the Triwizard Tournament than actually giving up on her dream. She was so close to being accepted into the Cursebreaking program; once she had that acceptance and start date did she believe her mother would truly admit to defeat. “My dad is proud of me, or at least that’s what he says. I’m sure part of him wishes I had wanted to play Quidditch, but he seemed to understand the whole following your intuition bit,” she admitted with a small smile. She was glad she had at least one supportive parent to rely on at least. Elena would follow one day, and she couldn’t wait for that day to come.
Irina made a face as he called her bossy. “I’ve been called worse things,” she said airily, then laughed. She tugged at the bottom of her hair as she watched Daniel toss his wand a few feet away. She couldn’t help but laugh again as the wand zoomed back towards him and poked him in the hand instead of landing nicely in his palm. “Did it break the skin?” she asked, leaning forward to take a look. He didn’t look outwardly injured, and she smiled. “What’s the secret to it then?” she asked, looking down at her own wand as if it would reveal all.

Daniel could try to imagine but it wouldn't have been close to what it probably actually felt like. One of the only times he had ever been pressured by his father was when he was forced to move to Europe. Every other time he had just been avoided or ignored if only the man could have continued it one last time. Still now wasn't the time to get angry especially for no reason. "Yeah it sounds like a nightmare. Yet if they care about you like they seem to so far they'll get over it one day. At least I hope they do." Daniel offered some sympathy near the end as he spoke, her family didn't sound like bad people just obsessed with Quidditch. Still what could you expect from a family of professional players. "That's the thing, parents can wish for whatever they want. What's more important is what makes their kids happy." It was good to hear that at least her father was on her side.
"I imagine we all have at some point." He replied with a smirk, he had said the same thing multiple times before to other people when they called him something. The girl laughed at his attempt to call his wand back to him. He didn't blame her as he had his own little laugh while he looked at his palm. He could tell that the girl got closer to him, he imagined it was to see if he got hurt. All that he had was a red impression from his wand, if it was sharp for some reason he could only imagine it would have left a cut of some sort. "No, I doubt it'll even bruise." Daniel explained before she asked him what was the secret to it. "I'm the last person you should ask for advise as you could tell." Daniel joked even if it was true, he could barely do this let alone anything else. "Wands are just tools, sure they have some weird kind of intelligence about them but they just help focus the magic we already have. Just focus and realize your going to need to try even harder than if you had your wand. Also if your like me don't practice with anything too pointy" It really was the best advise he could come up with and from listening to himself he could see it not being that helpful at least to himself.

Irina nodded. “That’s good at least,” she said when he conceded that it wouldn’t leave much of a mark after a few minutes. It already seemed to be fading, so she believed him. She sat back on her heels and listened to him as he talked about wands. The subject matter obviously was taught more in depth at Ilvermorny than it was here at Hogwarts; Irina had had some practice with nonverbal spells of course, but Wandless Magic wasn’t part of it. She wished they would push the practice more here because in a pinch it could certainly prove useful. Especially if she was on a Cursebreaking mission and her wand flew out of her hand; she didn’t want to be a dead witch walking! “I think I found my last month of school project,” she mused aloud, then smiled a little. “Thanks for the introduction, I’m beginning to realize how useful this would be for me at my job. I’m surprised that they don’t push it more here, but I guess every school is different,” she told him, genuinely thankful that he had brought up the subject.
The school bell gonged, and Irina looked up at the clock, barely making out the time. “Shoot, I have Arithmancy to get to,” she said, standing up and gathering up her bag. She turned back towards Dan and smiled. “Well, other Daniel, it was nice to make your acquaintance. I’m sure I’ll see you around for the last few months here and there. Who knows, perhaps I’ll grab you to show off any progress I make with this Wandless Magic endeavor,” she told him. With a wave, she shoved her bag onto her shoulder and headed back up to the castle.
END IRINA
