The good thing about seeing one of her colleagues was that Dominick understood how tight her schedule was likely to be until the end of term, meaning that there were no hard feelings about her allegedly not having time for him or anything like that. Instead, he agreed that her concerns about scheduling made sense. He still had to prepare his students for their exams, he said, and that didn’t include the research that he still needed to do for his book. Even with everything on his plate, he suggested that they could still try to work something out, and Parvati nodded.
“If not,” Dominick added, “then we can try the summer out. I don't have any plans that are set in stone or couldn't be changed.”
“I know it must make me sound like a bore, but I doubt I’ll be too busy.” Parvati smiled. She didn’t have any holidays planned, and she doubted that anything that the Order needed from her would take her too far away from her sons for any length of time long enough to require her to make up some elaborate excuse as to why she couldn’t go out with Dominick.
Gradually, along with the sound of footsteps, the light returned to the café. The waiter, who thanked them for dining there, informed them that Blishwick Matchmaking had taken care of the cost of their meal. Although they were left without a list of what they had just eaten or something of the sort, Dominick didn’t seem too concerned by it, so Parvati figured that she shouldn’t be, either.
“Shall we?”
“I guess we should probably get back to the castle,” Parvati laughed as she stood, too. “I took the Floo Network here and then walked the rest of the way,” she considered. It was probably too late to find somewhere with a fireplace and a connection, she thought. “We could Apparate back to Hogsmeade and then walk the rest of the way?” she suggested, looking to Dominick to see if he had a better idea. “You could tell me about that book you’re writing.”

She mirrored his thoughts, saying that they should get back to castle. He figured there wasn't much more they could do at this time of night and plus it was getting close to curfew for their students. He didn't have rounds to do tonight but he still felt like they should be back at the castle. He'd had to apparate himself to the cafe because it was the faster option and he hadn't wanted to keep her waiting any longer than he had. She then mentioned that they could apparate back and he could tell her about his book on the trek back to the castle. His face lit up immediately. "You're interested?" he asked with much more excitement than he intended. He loved talking about his research with anyone who would listen because he loved to hear others thoughts about it. Of course, most people became bored before he finished talking so he never really got feedback but he was okay with that. The fact that she was even showing a little bit of interest had his brain switching gears and going through every talking point before he realized he was getting ahead of himself. "You might get bored of it but I'm happy to talk about it if you would like me to." He held his hand out in a gentlemanly display to get her to walk in front of him. He wasn't sure if she wanted to Side-Long apparate back or if they would apparate separately but either way he needed to clear his mind so he wouldn't make any mistakes and splinch himself during the process. The last thing he wanted to do was turn the date into a hospital visit.

Parvati wished that someone had a camera with which to capture the look on Dominick’s face after she told him that she wanted to hear about his book. He seemed to be in complete disbelief, asking her if she was interested in it.
“Of course I want to hear about it!” Parvati insisted, laughing. What in the world would have led Dominick to believe that she wouldn’t be interested in what it was that he was doing with what little free time he had outside of teaching? She might not have been in Ravenclaw like her sister had been or a scholar of Arithmancy, but she was sure that there would be something interesting about Dominick’s research. Besides, it was something about which he was clearly passionate.
“You might get bored of it,” Dominick warned her, “but I'm happy to talk about it if you would like me to.”
He gestured for her to walk in front of him, and she obliged. “I won’t,” she told him, her tone the same as before, though she desperately wanted to reassure him that her mentioning his book in the first place hadn’t been a slip of her tongue. He needed to understand that she was rather enamored of him already. Dominick was nothing like Ernie or the mistake she had made in seeing Marcus Flint, and she was glad for the change. If what it would take for him to realize that she meant it was for her to be as plain as day, then so be it. If he kept on doubting himself like he was, he was going to end up splinched.
She turned to him, ceasing her laughter but smiling still. “Dom,” she began, “when I told you that I hadn’t enjoyed myself so much in ages, I meant it. The only other man I’ve seen since my divorce, I never could have had the conversations with him that I did with you.” That was leaving out that most of her relationship with Marcus had been physical and impulsive, but she hadn’t spoken so freely with him. “And Ernie?” she continued. “I couldn’t tell you the last time we did anything like this,” at least not without trying to ignore their growing marital problems. “I’m interested in your book because I’m interested in you, Dom.”

Her reaction to his silliness was instantaneous and was accompanied by a laugh of amusement. She honestly, truly wanted to hear about his research. And she assured him that she wouldn’t get bored of it though he felt a little doubtful about that because it was completely normal to get bored of tedious information that you had no true stake in. He wouldn’t be upset if she got bored of it. He just didn’t want to bore her. Their date was just coming to a close after all and he definitely wanted to keep her interested because he wanted to go out with her again. She stopped and turned to him suddenly, making a look of concern cover his face. And then she spoke, explaining that she really meant that she hadn’t had so much fun with someone since her divorce. With each of her assurances, Dominick’s smile widened across his face and his cheeks grew a bit darker with a blush. She was interested in him. He hadn’t known how much he’d wanted to hear her say that until she’d said it. "I’m glad to hear that. I hope I haven’t been too hidden with my intentions either. I had a really good time tonight and I would like to get to know you better Parvati." His words came out clear and honest, spoken with a smile and confidence that he gained from her words. There were people who would see the way he behaved and think it was low self-esteem or him having no self-confidence. It wasn’t completely true. After years and years of working with predictive magic there was something he’d come to understand rather clearly: things didn’t always work out the way you predicted them. Even when the odds are high. Not saying that the odds were high with Parvarti. He just knew that he enjoyed her company immensely. He felt a lot more at ease, now that he knew how she felt. And when they reached the point of apparition, there was only a little bit of worry in his head for her reaction when he held his hand out to her. "Should we Side-Along back to Hogsmeade?"
