Poe nodded when Angie said that she might try homeschooling. He always said that everyone should try everything at least once – or if not everything, then as many things as possible. Writing something off without ever trying it seemed like the easy way out to him, and he was mildly pleased that Angie was considering the task even though it wasn’t easy. “No Beauxbatons or Durmstrang for her?” Poe asked lightly. Since the foreign delegations were at the school for the Triwizard Tournament, Poe was in the habit of remembering that they existed – and remembering that sometimes parents sent their kids to one of the other schools if they believed the other school more closely aligned with their ideals or what the parents wanted to teach their kids.
Angie asked if he had ever considered kids of his own, and Poe felt slightly off-balance – figuratively and literally, because his horse had chosen that moment to jerk forward unexpectedly. After regaining his balance (physically, at least), Poe turned to look over his shoulder at Angie so he could speak to her. “Depends on a lot of things.” He said. “Who I end up with, for one thing. I don’t discriminate who I love by gender, so it could be more difficult to have kids that way.” Poe was definitely up for adoption if he found himself with a male life partner, but that might not have been what Angie had meant when she had asked about kids of his own. It was a bit of a weird first date question, but if family was important to her, he could see how it was necessary. “I’m just seeing what the universe wants to throw at me, really.” Poe was hoping to do things the way his parents had done them – finding someone he loved, marrying them, settling down and starting a family. He wouldn’t say no to becoming a single parent like Angie was – he couldn’t say no to any chance to have a kid, after all – but he’d prefer to find someone to love first, and then see how it went from there.

Poet asked if Angie was considering either of the other known European magical schools for her daughter. It was, of course, something that she thought about. It was something that she would take to Aerick before deciding, even though she was confident that he wouldn’t have an opinion since he had gone to Ilvermorny and wasn’t entirely involved in the child's life. But, he had been around a bit lately, and he wanted to be more involved, she knew. Even if he wasn’t involved, sending their daughter to school in a different country wasn’t something she’d do without at least letting him know. “Well, my whole family went to Hogwarts so I guess I just assumed that was where she’d go. If she seriously approached me and said she wanted to go to one of the other schools, I’d at least look into it for her.” Angie shrugged. She knew she still had time until all of this began to play out. Olive had already began to take an interest in Beauxbatons since they had met Yadiel and his daughter at lunch.
He seemed a bit thrown off when she asked the question about him having children. Perhaps that wasn’t exactly a first date question, but she had meant it innocently. He explained that he didn’t discriminate against genders and she nodded, she had never been one to judge based on anything like that, she felt that whoever people loved was their business and really only hers when they made it her business, either by dating her or asking her to give advice or something. He ended his thought by saying he was waiting to see what the universe threw at him. Angie appreciated that way of thinking. She wouldn’t push the topic much more, though. She didn’t want to make him uncomfortable at all. “So do you like books or movies or anything?” she asked instead, changing the subject and introducing a new subject instead, something else to learn about him. “Thanks to Olive I’ve become quite familiar with the world of movies. She loves them.” she said.

Poe nodded when Angie said that her daughter was likely going to Hogwarts, if only because that was where Angie and all of her magical relatives had gone. Poe had been much the same, but he sometimes wondered how his life would have changed if he hadn't gone to Hogwarts. He almost certainly wouldn't have been an Auror without the Hufflepuff houses pressure to love and protect. Poe decided that he probably shouldn't offer his opinion on the subject, since this was just his and Angie's first date and he wasn't a part of her daughter's life. Besides, a five-year-old still had a long time before departing for Hogwarts. Who knew what would change between now and then?
Poe didn't bother trying to analyze Angie's face when he made his announcement of not discriminating based on gender. If she wanted to be offended by who he loved, then that was her prerogative, and if not, then he didn't have anything further to say on the subject. Angie spoke again, changing the subject. The change was rather abrupt, but definitely not unwelcome. It was certainly more first-date worthy than the question about children. "Have you ever heard of Star Wars?" Poe asked. "I'm a fan of those movies. I got two of my trainees light sabers as gifts for Christmas." Technically he had been too early for Christmas, If Poe recalled correctly, but either way, he had given light sabers to Finn and Rai. Once again he was filled with wistfulness, wondering how they were doing - how they both were. Since he had returned to a position that wasn't a trainer, he had seen less of the Aurors-in-training, which was strange. "I don't think that's really child-appropriate though." Poe said with a laugh. There was a little too much fighting in Star Wars for a soon-to-be five-year-old. "What kind of movies do you watch?" Poe asked, narrowing his eyes at his horse, which looked ready to bolt. Hopefully that wouldn't happen so he could enjoy the conversation in peace.

Poet brought up a movie called Star Wars, or, she actually thought that it was a collection of movies, if they were thinking about the same thing. “I’ve heard of it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it.” she admitted. She had seen little bits of it at her parents house because her siblings and parents liked them, but from what she had seen, and just like he said, they didn’t really seem to be a good series of movies for a 4 year old to watch. Someday, she was sure that Olive would become obsessed with the series, and a part of her wanted to wait and watch them for the first time with the little girl rather than watch them in advance. It would be something fun for them to bond through. “Honestly, we normally just watch Disney movies. She can be a right princess some times.” Angie admitted. “And she loves watching the princess movies with the pretty dresses and singing animals. Cinderella is her favorite.” she explained with a small laugh. Her horse seemed calm under her, which she was so very thankful for. Having never done this before, she had no idea what she would do in the event of the horse freaking out.

Poe nodded when Angie said she’d never seen the Star Wars movies, filing it away in his brain. If – when? – they had a second date, that might be something fun to do, if she showed interest in seeing the movies at all. Poe wasn’t sure if there would be a second date for the two of them – he liked Angie just fine, but it was more of a platonic bond. The difference in age was probably a factor in that, but Poe also wondered if his heart still wasn’t totally in it. It would be something they’d have to discuss after their ride in the park was finished, Poe supposed. Angie went on to say that she and her daughter normally just watched Disney movies, and Poe smiled. Princess movies hadn’t been as big of a part of his childhood, due to not having any sisters, and his mother wanting him to see women like Amelia Earhart as his role models instead of fictional princesses. “Maybe when she’s older she’ll find a prince or princess to marry so she can be a princess herself.” Poe suggested. He knew that the Muggle royal family had children attending Hogwarts, so it wasn’t a total impossibility for Angie’s daughter to become a real life princess. “Or maybe she’ll just discover she can talk to animals herself.” He added. Animal affinities weren’t common, but there were definitely cases of witches and wizards having an unusual connection with a certain kind of animal, which would probably satisfy Angie’s daughter’s inner princess.

Poet suggested that maybe Olive would marry into royalty someday. Something that Angie actually hoped that she didn't. She wasn't sure why, and she would be completely happy with whomever Olive found Love with, but she just couldn't see Olive as a real life royal. Someone who was charged with being in the public eye as the figureheads of a country. Her daughter was clumsy and loud. Given, she was still young and no one could know what she would turn into as she aged. "I think she's just going through a bit of a phase. She likes to look at dresses in shops and play pretend." She admitted. Angie had already began to see her daughter as a Quidditch star, not that she'd push the idea onto her, but with Olive's overall personality and dreams of flying, she could see it happening and could see her being really happy in it. "I suppose she could - wouldn't that be fun." Angie nodded, she hadn't seen any signs of magic yet at all from the young girl, which worried her only the slightest, but Angie knew that she still had a few years to go before it was odd that the signs weren't showing up. "Do you have any siblings?" she asked him.

Angie said her daughter was going through a phase, and Poe inclined his head at her. He hadn’t had many of those, thanks to his constant love of flying and how time-consuming that hobby was, but he had seen other kids take up activities only to drop them again when they saw something else that struck their fancy. Poe shook his head when Angie asked if he had any siblings. “No, just me.” Poe hadn’t really thought about his parents’ choice not to have more children until he was much older, and even then, he couldn’t begrudge them wanting a small family. Poe didn’t think himself a spoiled child, but he definitely grew up close to both of his parents and knowing that they both loved him – he sometimes wondered if he would have resented them if they had another child and stopped paying as much attention to him because of it. “You’d like your daughter to have siblings someday?” Poe asked. Since Angie had asked him his opinion about kids, and was bringing up siblings now, that seemed to be what she was getting at – but it was also possible that the question was entirely unrelated, and he was only bringing the question around to a non-first-date-worthy topic because he was nervous about making more small talk.

Angie, who had grown up with two younger siblings wasn't sure how much she would have liked being an only child and seemed to have a much differing view on the subject than her counterpart, even if they didn't know it. Her siblings, though they were younger than her, were her friends. They were her playmates and her confidants until she went off to school. They were each others salvation when they went to events that none of them wanted to go to, and they were always there to just ensure that no one ever felt alone. She couldn't imagine her life without them, though she rarely saw them anymore. "I've got two siblings." she told him, answering her question for herself. "Both younger, both still in Hogwarts." she added. He asked if she'd like her child to have a sibling one day, a question she wasn't exactly fishing for, but one that didn't really catch her off guard when he asked. Angie was open with what she wanted, she had to be. She didn't have time to pretend and fabricate the truth when she had a little girl in her life depending on her for everything. "Yes. Well, someday. It's not something I'm in any sort of hurry for, but I think it'd be nice. I can't imagine not having my siblings growing up." she admitted. Angie began to feel her legs aching with the motion of the horse and wondered how big this park was? How much longer the trail they were on was, and whether or not the trail circled back on it's own.

Poe listened to Angie talk about her siblings, who were both younger and still in Hogwarts, and he nodded. He liked to think that even though he didn’t have a biological family he had a sort of de facto family in the Auror corps, with a bunch of older and younger siblings in his comrades, but he knew it was probably wrong to attribute that close of a relationship with… well, most of them. They worked together and Poe would gladly die for any of his coworkers, but that was different from having a real family. Angie went on to say that she wanted more siblings for her daughter, but not in any hurry. Personally, Poe thought there was a little bit of a hurry, at least from the perspective that having children ten years apart wasn’t conducive to having them form close relationships like the ones Angie wanted for her children. Poe wasn’t going to say that though, especially since he wasn’t in a hurry to get in a relationship with Angie or give her those children. “Looks like that’s the stable.” Poe said, pointing out to a blur of a building on the horizon that vaguely resembled the building they had come from. Poe was hoping it was the stable, at least, because his butt was starting to go numb and the longer he was on the horse the more time it had to get up to some mischief like throwing him off.

They were approaching the stables again. “Oh thank goodness.” Angie let out a sigh of relief when her date pointed them out in the distance. “Sorry, that was rude. Not that I’m not having a great time talking to you. I’m just not sure I can feel my thighs…” she admitted, hoping that he understood what she meant and wouldn’t take offense to her first outburst of relief. “Coffee shops are much more my scene.” she admitted with a small laugh. You’d think that since she worked at a coffee shop and spent most of her time there, that she wouldn’t want to go frequent many of them after work. That wasn’t the case. Angie loved a good cup of coffee, at any hour of the day, and she loved taking Olive to them, since she knew it made the girl feel very grown up. While her horse had been plenty polite to her, she wasn’t sure she’d ever do it again. She’d bring Olive and let the little girl play and ride if she wanted to, just to let her get the experience, but she wasn’t sure that she really felt comfortable on top of the beast.

Poe couldn’t help but laugh at Angie’s exclamation when he mentioned seeing the stable. He shook his head when she wrote her own comment off as rude – he agreed completely with her comment about not being able to feel his legs. “I wonder if mounted training should be a part of the Auror corps.” Poe said thoughtfully. He considered himself pretty physically fit, given the nature of his job, but he was wiped out by all of this riding. Angie said that coffee shops were more her scene, and Poe nodded. “Maybe we can go grab a coffee then.” He suggested. “As friends?” Poe wasn’t really sure that there was anything between him and Angie – he enjoyed talking to her, but that was about it. Having a new friend was never a bad thing, but he wanted to make sure that they were both on the same page about the state of their relationship, preferably before they got back to the stable in less than a minute. If there was going to be drama, he’d rather not have a dozen stablehands watching.

Angie felt a little less bad about her outburst and comment when he laughed it off. He understood. She was glad that he hadn’t thought she was having such an awful time on their date that she was glad the stables were back in view and she’d be able to leave soon. She laughed too when he suggested that mounted training should be a part of the Auror corps. “I’ll leave that up to you.” she said, a little sarcastically. She wasn’t sure how effective a Auror on a horse would be against a dark wizard with a wand, however, it was a funny idea, and it would likely help them build endurance during their training. As they got closer to the stable, he asked if they could grab coffee sometime, as friend. Again, she was glad they were on the same page. Poet was a lovely man, but she hadn’t really felt like they connected at all in a romantic way, or as anything more than just friends and riding companions. “Absolutely.” she gave a nod and a smile. The two of them got to the stable and with a hand from one of the stable hands, she got down off her horse, feeling her legs wobble a bit, she was surprised how exhausted she was. “I should get going then - my daughter is with my mum and they’ll be expecting me shortly.” she explained to him, hoping that he didn’t think she was rushing off to get away from him. “It was very lovely to meet you, thank you for the great conversation.” she said, meaning every word of it.

Poe smirked when Angie said she’d leave the details of a mounted platoon for the Aurors up to him. It probably wouldn’t happen, but Poe liked to at least consider ideas before scrapping them, and he had yet to give this one ample consideration. There was still something to be learned, even if the original idea fell through. Angie agreed to his suggestion of coffee as friends, and Poe smiled at her. He wasn’t surprised by her lack of protest at the ‘friends’ part of it, but it was still good that there were no hurt feelings from what should have been – and was – just a fine time. Angie got down off her horse first, and Poe followed. He was glad to finally be off the animal, because it meant that he wasn’t constantly worrying about whether or not he would be thrown off not of his own accord. “Have a good rest of your day.” Poe said when Angie explained that she had to go get her daughter. That was certainly an important task. Poe was trying to figure out what he was going to do for the rest of his day – he was tempted just to sit down for a while and give his aching legs a break, but he still had a dog to walk and probably a hundred other things he was forgetting to do. Poe waved at Angie one last time before departing from the park, mentally reviewing what he needed to do before going into work the next day.
