Yeah, this was definitely going to get gory, Zita thought as she stared at the pig corpse, waiting for Cordie to answer her. Just thinking about how much work was going to have to go into this made Zita hesitant. She had, however, been the one to initiate it so she couldn't really back out now. Plus she was really interested to see just how good Cordie was at it. When she finally did answer, saying that she had practiced on Professor Zhu, pride clear in her voice, Zita's eyebrows raised in surprise. When had that happened? Just the fact that she'd already successfully performed the spell on a human made her more excited to see how she did it. "Wow that's actually really cool. And unexpected. When did you do that?" she asked curiously. She had help practicing on broken bones in the beginning, of course. The fact that she'd just done it with no issue, she was impressed. Maybe Cordie was a natural healer? Lots of people had a skill that they picked up easily so it was possible that healing was that skill for her roommate. Zita looked back at the pig once again before looking back at Cordie. "Also, how do you want to go about doing this? It is a dead pig... after all. This might get a bit interesting," she paused in between her words, not quite showing how concerned she was with how the process would go, "So I will leave it up to you." She was actually hoping that Cordie might come up with something better than what she had thought out. She could only imagine that the House elves might get involved otherwise. Or they might call for someone else to get involved and that might not be too good for the both of them.

@zita Clouded by pride in her abilities and the compliments she was receiving from Zita, Cordelia didn’t see a problem with detailing her experience in healing up Professor Zhu’s broken wrist. “Be-Before Chr-Christmas,” she started, remembering back on the event fondly. At first, the Hufflepuff hadn’t been all that impressed with being dragged out onto the grounds in the cold and snow to cut down a tree for the Great Hall, or wherever the thing was supposed to go. The whole idea of Christmas simply didn’t resonate with Cordelia as much as it should have, considering that was when she had been given her first camera. Regardless of her opinion on the holiday itself, the event of mending the professor’s broken bone had happened because she had reluctantly tagged along for the event. At one point they separated to look for a quality tree to chop down, and the professor sent up sparks indicating she had found a good one. Upon arriving at the location though…“I-I th-think she f-fell and that-that’s when sh-she b-broke her wr-wrist,” Cordelia finished her short, but detailed explanation of it.
But that was a living human’s bone, and the hunk of meat in front of the pair of Hufflepuffs belonged to a dead pig. Zita wasn’t wrong; this thing was dead and there were so many other outcomes that could happen once Cordelia decided to start breaking things. She was positive that her ability to crush objects was relatively decent, but crushing a rock or twig was vastly different from meat, cartilage, and bone. “I-I w-was thinking of use-using p-pressure,” she explained. “Th-That w-way I c-can c-control how m-much I p-push on the b-bones.” Zita was going to let her do her thing though. It sounded like a good idea in her head, so that was what it was going to be. Taking a deep breath, she pointed her wand at the pig once again, looking over at her roommate to give her a nod that she was starting. “Y-You m-might want to st-step b-back…j-just in case.”
Silently activating a pressure spell, Cordelia watched the pig’s skin start to indent, but nothing more. That wasn’t enough to break bones. Giving it more ‘umph’, she continued to lower her wand, directing the spell to crush. The first few creaks and snaps didn’t register, but the more frequent they became, the more she wanted to stop. Grimacing throughout it, Cordelia let a few more giant pops and cracks happen before letting up. The sound alone had been enough to make her feel ill. Turning her head, she checked to see if Zita was still standing.

Her roommate gave short but informative details to answer her question about the task she'd performed and her voice was still full of well deserved pride. She'd said that she thought the professor had fallen, which Zita took as she hadn't had a lot of detail to work with when she'd had to fix the break. Not only had that been dangerous, it was admirable that she'd been able to fix the break without too many details. One wrong move and she could have damaged Professor's Zhu's wrist far more than any aspiring or rookie healer could fix it. That would have required an unpleasant St. Mungo's visit. Zita held a new respect for her roommate and her seemingly natural affinity for healing, giving her a firm nod of appreciation with her admiration clear on her face. Zita stood there for a moment, eyeing the pig carcass strategically, trying to figure out the best way for her to go about breaking its bones without it flying across the room in a scene that was sure to horrify everyone in the room. Cordelia offered up a suggestion that was better than anything Zita had thought before and she took a deep breath, stepping back just as Cordelia directed her to. The charm required no words from her but Zita saw the moment the magic began to assert itself on the pig. Just beneath her wand tip, at first the indentation was rather shallow, though there. The lower she pushed her wand, the deeper the indentation became and the sound of bones cracking became louder and louder. The sound was gruesome and made Zita clench her teeth behind her lips. She felt pain ghost deep in her own arms and she rubbed the goosebumps away that formed on her from the echoing sounds. Cordelia didn't seem to be handling it very well either; her face was clenched up in discomfort too. She raised her wand after a few more and Zita felt relief pour through the air. "All good back here," she waved at the girl's questioning look. She nodded her head, waiting for her to continue.

@zita Cordelia had never contemplated that the spell she had just used had probably been utilized against another human being in a duel. Those were the thoughts she pushed away immediately or pretended didn’t exist. Unfortunately, her intense interest in mystery novels and muggle films absolutely destroyed her innocence when it came to fantastical violence. Here she was, crushing a dead pig’s bones into marrow particles, and thinking it was perfectly fine because she could fix it after the fact. Attacking a living, breathing person with a pressure spell, or anything more dangerous at that, was clearly not something she was capable of, unless she thought as little of them as she had with the pig. Shaking her head to remove both the negative thoughts and clear the slight nausea that had come over her, she stepped back to where Zita was, so as to observe her horrifying work. “I-I d-don’t think I w-want to do th-that ever again…” she said slowly, making sure there was an emphasis on the fact that she most certainly didn’t have it in her to crush pig bones over and over again, even if it was in the name of studying spells. Healing it up in one go would ensure that she wouldn’t have to do it ever again, and instill the much needed confidence that mending broken and shattered bones would do.
Swallowing, Cordelia returned to her position in front of the pig. Now was the real test. Breaking was easy. Healing wasn’t. Not always, at least. Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath, and let it out slowly. She was uneasy about all of it, her breath wavering being an indicator of it. This was a dead pig, not a living person. Nerves weren’t allowed for the real deal, so she couldn’t be apprehensive here either. Repeating her breathing techniques a few more times, her eyes snapped back open as she pointed the wand at the pig’s side, exactly where she had initiated the pressure spell. “Brackium Emendo.” The same soft, blue light that she remembered seeing while fixing Professor Zhu’s broken wrist appeared this time as well. Letting the spell go on for a few more seconds, Cordelia finally felt confident that everything inside was fixed up. Turning to Zita, she looked to figure out what to do next. “H-How do w-we check to s-see if they’re f-fixed?” Maybe it was a little late to think about that?

Even though she'd said she was okay, there was a noticeable tense vibe in the room that had tingles running up her arms again as both of them looked at the pig. The skin of the pig was still caved just enough so that they could see where the pressure spell had been focused and even though the sounds of the breaking bones had long faded out, Zita could still hear them. Cordelia chose then to emphasize that she didn't think she could do that again. Zita pat her on the shoulder in agreement; she didn't know if she could watch something like that happen again and not visibly react to it. And to think there were people out there would could watch something like that with no issues. There were people out there who could do that to someone without any of the cringing Zita wanted to do just thinking about it. She was going to be a mediwizard though. If anything, Zita would be the first one on the scene of something like that happening so she knew she needed a stronger stomach. Maybe that would develop on the job. Zita took a steadying breath as Cordelia stepped forward again and Zita was anticipating her success in healing the crushed bones. She'd done it before with less information so she didn't think it would be any different with more information. It was like she was the one healing again, like her first time. Cordelia waved her wand and she washed the room in the blue color of the healing spell. The deed was done a few short seconds later and Cordelia turned to her then, asking how they would know if they were fixed. Zita smiled then, this is where she could come in. "Diagnostic spells, of course. There are a few of them and they vary by detail and difficulty to learn but I'm sure you'll pick them up easily enough," she explained simply as she approached the pig herself. She lifted her wand and waved it over the pig, reciting the spell that she knew would tell her if the bones were healed. The tip of her wand glowed an eerie black color, signifying a dead patient. Not what she was expecting. Of course the pig was dead, but she expected that one to work. She went through the repertoire of spells that she knew and only became more frustrated with each new one she tried. All of them made the tip of her wand go black. "Hmm. Well then..." She spoke the words quietly to herself before she turned back to Cordelia. "Maybe not. They just keep telling me that the patient-- the pig is dead."

@zita Cordelia stared at Zita. There were spells that indicated internal damage? How come she had never heard of these before? Usually she just went off of what she knew, in the case of the pig, it was because she had zapped it with a spell to break bones, or with Professor Zhu it was because she had been told that her wrist was probably broken. Having the ability to scan for bleeding or broken bones was unbelievable, and the fact that she hadn’t even scratched that part of the healing spell section was baffling. Then again, it did start to make sense to her. She had been focused on surface level injuries and bone repairs. They were the easiest and the basics to everything else. “D-Di-Di…” she paused, trying to pronounce the word in her head correctly first. “D-Diagnostic spells?” Cordelia cleared her throat as she spit the word out finally. These were the ones that she had to remember and not mess up. Zita explained that they were easy to learn, and then proceeded to pull her own wand out.
Moving closer to her roommate, Cordelia watched in awe as the spell was cast, completely unaware of what it was supposed to be doing. The wand tip turned black, which in her experience meant bad (and in potions, most likely to explode at any second or extremely poisonous). She looked back and forth between the pig and wand, and Zita, wondering if there was an explanation for why it was indicating black. A few more spells were cast, in what she assumed were supposed to give out different readings, and they all came back the same way as the first one. Zita turned to her after the last one, and said that they were all saying the pig was dead. So that could have gone better, from what she gathered. “B-But you kn-know how to do the sp-spells. That’s im-impressive,” Cordelia pointed out. Even if they were sending out dead pig signals, that meant they were working correctly. That was a step past where she had personally made it when it came to healing things. “Wh-What b-book did you l-learn that in? If y-you don’t m-m-mind m-me asking…”

Her roommate complimented her then, saying that it was impressive that she knew how to do the spells at all. She gave a shrug because she really didn't think it was that big of a deal. Anyone could do it with enough practice. Well... maybe there were some people who were predisposed to doing certain types of magic. Cordelia had definitely proven to be a natural at healing, being able to heal Professor Zhu's wrist like she did as well as the possibility that she'd healed the bones of the dead pig lying in front of them. "It's a book on advances in healing magic that my dad brought back from his trip to...." she furrowed her brow then as her words fell off. She couldn't remember where he'd gone, he took so many trips that it was hard to keep track of them. "Doesn't matter, I don't remember. It has a bunch of healing spells created by witches and wizards all over the world. I have it here with me if you wanted to take a look at it?" She wasn't too worried about letting the blonde borrow the book. She knew where she lived after all. She'd get it back one way or another though she really didn't think she'd have that issue with Cordelia. "There are a a bunch of diagnostic charms. I don't know all of them yet but I practice the ones I do know often enough that I've gotten good at them."Zita chose then to turn back to the problem pig, her hands going to her hips. She wasn't quite sure how to get around this problem. Or maybe there was a different diagnostic spell she hadn't learned yet that she wasn't trying. "Clearly still might have some work to do though."

@zita Zita practically had Cordelia sitting on the edge of her metaphorical seat as she waited to hear where the book on the spells had come from. She felt her heart drop when her roommate said that it didn’t matter where her father had found the book. But that was the most important part of it all! No time was wasted to have that brief thought completely overturned though, because Zita said she had it here with her at school. Cordelia nodded her head ferociously. There was a lot more she needed to learn, and that book would be her first steps toward that end goal. She thought the ones she had managed to find, as well as the ones her mum had given her, were pretty solid as they were. But a book dedicated to international healing sounded absolutely wonderful. “C-Could I?” She knew that was a stupid question, considering the fact that Zita had already encouraged her so much with the breaking pig bones thing. There was a possibility they would be working together in the future too, so helping each other out was only the right thing to do.
She continued to take in all the information that Zita was giving her about the book: how most of the spells were diagnostic ones, similar to what she had just seen. The mere fact that there were things in it more advanced than what she had been studying was worth it though. She would absorb everything in the book in a heartbeat. “B-But that’s why it’s p-practice,” she commented. “I d-don’t think m-many spells work on d-dead things t-to begin with.” Breaking bones was one thing, but scanning a body? If they couldn’t reanimate a body, then who was to say the ones Zita had just used would work? Following the same line of magical theory, then there was no way they could. Even thinking about those kinds of concepts opened up a whole new field of study that she wasn’t willing to dive into just yet. Basics first. That was what all of this was about. “P-Probably safe to assume the b-bones are f-fixed,” she said, poking the side of the pig a few times with her wand.

Zita smiled in an amused fashion when Cordelia asked if she could borrow the book, almost in an amazed fashion. Cordelia was showing a clear interest in learning healing magic and Zita decided, after the initial shock had worn off and she'd seen the girl perform, that she wouldn't mind helping her if she needed it. She seemed like she had a pretty decent handle on this form of magic though so maybe she didn't need much actual tutelage. She could offer her the book at the very least though. "Sure, why not. You could learn some cool stuff from it, I'm sure. Actually I haven't even gone through the entire book myself so I don't even know all of what spells are featured in the book. Just let me know when you want to see it when you see me around," she replied with a shrug. The blonde went on to comment how she was sure the spell didn't work because the pig was dead. She was sure that was right but that still didn't make her feel any less like she'd done something wrong and just maybe there was a spell out there she could use to check on that. There had to be right? She would have to take a look in that book to check. Or maybe there was another book out there with the information. Zita watched as Cordelia began poking the side of the dead pig with her wand. She almost didn't reign her laughter but once she got a grip she nodded in agreement. It didn't matter much anyway because she'd gotten the practice of it done. "Was that all you planned to do today," Zita asked before looking around the kitchens. Some of the house elves had gone about doing their chores and preparing food while there were one or two standing around and watching them, she assumed, just in case they needed something.

@zita This was kind of an awesome development. She had known that Zita was interested in healing prior to tonight, but didn’t know of the book she had been using to practice. These were the things that she knew she was missing from time to time because of her stupid awkwardness and complete inability to function like a normal human being. While she enjoyed the fact that she was now going to be able to learn more, there was an equal amount of disappointment coming forward as well. If she wasn’t the way she was, there was a possibility that she would have already talked to Zita about all of this; the whole pig thing probably wouldn’t have been a thing in the first place either. The mental gymnastics that were conducted in her head were at crazy levels and she had to remind herself that getting the book was a good thing – same as testing spells on the pig. It was all for a progression in her training. Things occurred the way they did for a reason. “M-Maybe before br-break. S-So you c-can have it b-back over the summer.” That sounded like a good idea to her. If she could find a copy of her own during that time, she would. There were plenty of good bookstores in Diagon Alley. One of them would definitely have it, or could order it at least. Zita laughed as the poking commenced. “S-Sorry…d-didn’t m-mean to m-make it funny,” Cordelia smiled, retracting her wand and placing it back in her pocket. Her roommate asked if that was all she had planned to do, and Cordelia nodded her head. “Th-Think I’m done for n-now,” she responded, looking the pig over one last time before giving it a pat. She wasn’t sure why she did that, but the gross slap of her hand against the dead pig made her pull her hand back faster than she had done with her wand. “D-Definitely done.”[Cord End]
