[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged words 423 notes | Asha knew she needed help. Of course, she wasn’t going to talk about her love life, or lack thereof to her Aunt Parvati. No, she needed to talk to her about her school work and her lack of attention on that. Asha needed help. She knew she needed a tutor. She didn’t need anyone to tell her that. What she wanted really was to talk to her aunt. She couldn’t talk to her mother except through owls right now. It was good to talk to family sometimes. She just hoped her aunt didn’t ask any embarrassing questions but at least they would be in her office and not around other people to hear those questions.
Asha had been in the common room attempting to study before she had to go meet her aunt. She had asked her if she could come around a specific time. She sighed because all she could think about now is landing the new dance move she just learned. She shook her head. She had to get it together. At this point she was never going to graduate if her grades declined anymore. She wasn’t failing but she was excelling either. She was stuck right at the beginning of average.
Asha closed her book up and took her stuff back to the common room. She ran a hand through her curls and looked in the mirror with a smile. She was enjoying her newly changed purple hair. The little of light blue she had put in it really made the purple pop. She wondered if she would meet anyone cute along the way. Changing from comfortable clothes she wanted to make sure she looked good for that hopefully cute person she would meet along the way. She wished it would be her best friend Carleigh but she knew that would never work out. Still she hoped against all that Carleigh would see her in a light that she saw Carleigh. She sighed as she took one more look in the mirror.
Heading out of the common room Asha made it to her aunt’s office. She knocked on the door and peeked in a little. Aunt Parvati she said hoping her aunt was there. She was a little late but that was because she had fallen on the steps while looking at this cute girl walking ahead of her. She received a nasty scratch from it as well. She was always being told that she should focus on where she was going and not daydream while walking.

It wasn't that she didn't love her sons, but Parvati had always been slightly envious of Padma and Dean for their having had a daughter. Growing up so close to her own twin, she hadn't ever thought that parenting twins would be much trouble, but she hadn't accounted for twin boys, either. (Almost seventeen years later, raising them while being at odds with their father made the decision-making process that much more of a headache at times, but crossing her fingers and hoping for the best had worked so far.)
When her niece, Asha, had approached her to say that she needed to talk to her, there were all of the usual worries in Parvati's mind. She hadn't forgotten what it was like to be a teenager, as much as she imagined that the students around whom she spent her days felt otherwise. Being that Asha was her niece, though, raised the possibility that she might have to keep something confidential from her sister and brother-in-law, which—although wildly uncomfortable for her—she knew that both Padma and Dean understood to be just another aspect of her job.
Parvati waited in her office for Asha at the time that they had set, becoming slightly concerned when that time came and went. Just as she was considering going to see if Asha was on her way, she heard a knock at the door, followed by her niece's voice from the other side.
Standing from her chair and walking over to the door to greet her, Parvati opened the rest of the way. “Come in, Asha, love,” she invited her, no longer worried that she had turned up late and simply thankful to see her.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged words 000 notes anything here. | For one reason or another Asha was always running late, no matter where she was going. She never pays attention to the time and when she finally does it’s usually too late because she will defiantly be late by then. Kicking herself mentally she had raced down the stairs and to her aunt’s office. She knew her aunt would get worried since she was late. Her dad was always telling her that she would be late to her own funeral if she didn’t get it together. She would always laugh but she knew he was right.
Her aunt invited her inside her office. Asha smiled as she walked in running a hand through her curls which was now blue and purple. She hadn’t let her mother know what she did to her hair or send her a picture of it. She didn’t know what her parents would think or what her aunt would think either. She should defiantly go see Sav with her new hair. He would get a kick out of it and laugh. He would probably tease her as well, but hey that was family.
She gave her aunt a hug then walked over to the chair near her aunt’s desk. She dropped into the seat with a heavy sigh. I know. I am late. I am always late. Sorry Asha said giving her aunt an innocent smile. Asha hadn’t even been born on time in her mind. She was born four days after her due date. She just decided that she was going to wait apparently. Asha needed to focus in this conversation though. She wasn’t talking to her aunt now, but the school’s counselor, the person who was to help the students. Asha needed all the help she could get.

After a quick hug, Asha went ahead and seated herself, apologizing profusely for her tardiness. “I know. I am late. I am always late. Sorry.”
Punctuality might not have been her niece's strong suit; it never had been, but at least she had arrived in one piece and made decent time—time enough, anyway, so that there was no need for Parvati to reschedule her. “It's alright, Asha,” she smiled back at her, wondering if the change in her hair color might have had something to do with why she had shown up late.
If she was being honest, Parvati knew that she couldn't say that it wasn't a problem that Asha was habitually late. She was nearly finished with her fifth year and would need to develop the ability to manage her time before it hurt her marks on her examinations.
Parvati took a seat across from Asha on the chaise longue, not minding the switch-up in the seating arrangement. Wandlessly, she summoned some parchment and a Self-Inking Quill into her hand. “Is the purple new?” she asked, beginning to jot down a few words onto the page in front of her.

She didn’t mean to be late, but she was trying to finish her work, which didn’t go the way she planned. Her aunt said it was alright but Asha knew better. Her parents were always telling her she needed to try and be on time more. Thankfully she wasn’t usually but a few minutes late to some classes, she always could talk herself into being able to stay instead of being kicked out. Her aunt sat down and got a quill and pad. Asha didn’t want this to be a counseling session. She just wanted to talk to her aunt. She just wanted a time to come here and talk through all her thoughts with someone else who wouldn’t think she was insane. Her aunt asked if the purple was new and she smiled instantly. Yes, it is. I did it a few days ago. Do you like it she said.

Parvati's memory wasn't failing her—yet, at least. The purple in Asha's hair was new, she said, and she had done it herself a few days before. “Do you like it?” she asked.
It really didn't look bad on her, Parvati thought, though she did hope that Asha had consulted with her parents before going through with it. “I like it,” she smiled, keeping her fingers crossed that Asha wouldn't use her finding the color change pretty as a stamp of approval against Padma and/or Dean's wishes. (“But Aunt Parvati said she liked it!” might not have been untrue, but—at the end of the day—she wasn't her mother.)
“Have you got a bit of blue in there, too?” Parvati spoke. It looked like Asha had added a touch of the other color to her hair to balance it all out. “It's nice,” she told her.
“What made you decide to change it?” she wondered. Purple and blue hair wasn't at all subtle, so something had to have prompted Asha to go through with it.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged words 000 notes anything here. | Asha had not asked her parents about changing her hair color. She only used magic so it could be changed right back with a swish of the wand. She hoped her parents wouldn’t make her turn it back right now. She should probably write to her mother and discuss some things with her, especially so her parents wouldn’t be too shocked when she got home. She smiled when her aunt said that she liked it. She shook her head back and forth so her curls could bounce a little. I love it really she said. She wasn’t telling her though that she changed her hair hoping her best friend would finally notice her, even though her best friend wasn’t into girls at all. She hoped she would grow out of it soon.
Her aunt asked if she had put a bit of blue in her hair. Yeah, I did she said with a smile and then she added that she liked the blue mixed in with the purple yeah, at first it was just purple but it was too purple so I lightened it and added light blue and it was perfect. Then her aunt asked what had prompted the change. Asha’s face turned red as it possible could and she hoped her aunt wouldn’t notice as she turned her head away and down so she couldn’t see the blush. No reason really. I just wanted a change she said and did a fake cough so her aunt wouldn’t think of anything with her head being turned away.

Asha expressed how much she enjoyed having purple hair, and Parvati smiled slightly as her niece allowed her curls to bounce around. She didn't think that Padma or Dean would mind too much, especially considering how happy she seemed with the change. Dean was artistic, anyway, and Padma—the worst that could happen was that she had some event to go to with her husband and children in tow and had to request that Asha change her hair back for it.
For what it was worth, she had been right about the blue, too. Asha told her that it had been just purple at first—“too purple”—and so she had lightened it and added the light blue. “And it was perfect,” Asha said in summary.
Parvati had to wonder if perhaps her niece had a future as a hairdresser, but that was something to bring up at another time. Asha said that there hadn't been a reason for the color change; she had just wanted a change, and that was it. She turned her head away to cough.
“Do you want some water?” Parvati offered. It was too late in the year for anyone to be falling ill with a cold or flu, and, although pollen could have been the culprit, she could have sworn that she heard something forced about the noise that Asha had made.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged words 000 notes sorry for the late posting. | Her aunt liked to dive in too deep sometimes with her questions, or at least hit a certain nerve without knowing. Her questions about why she had changed her hair color made Asha nervous. She just wanted a certain girl to notice her hopefully she would, but so far, no luck. She was going to enjoy her new hairstyle though because she did like it. She never liked talking about her feelings or things of that nature. What she always wanted to do was dance and sing. She would have to talk to her aunt about her possible future choice. She hoped she would tell her how to tell her mother that was what she wanted to do instead of a boring wizarding job.
Her aunt asked her if she wanted some water and Asha’s face turned a little red. No thank you Aunt Parvati. I am fine she said with a slight smile. So how has your work been going for you she said. She knew that her aunt had to counsel students and with the recent year they all have had Asha imagined that a lot of people needed it. Asha never came for that herself but that was because she hated talking about her feelings and liked to keep things bottled up. I am sure you know that…I am not doing well in my classes. I uhmm…guess that maybe I should…get a…I don’t know tutor she said dragging the statement out. She was looking down and her face was completely red. It was hard for Asha to ask for help and honestly, she felt embarrassed.

Asha turned down the offer of water, and Parvati gave a nod. She wasn't going to force it upon her niece or force her to discuss anything that she didn't want to talk about; it was that way with all of the other students, and her family was no exception.
Changing the subject, Asha then asked how her work had been going for her.
“It's the same as always, really,” Parvati smiled back. “Thank you for asking, love.” The students she saw might have changed from day to day, but many of their problems were remarkably similar, a result of their shared experience of adolescence—if not their experiences at Hogwarts, specifically.
Parvati waited as her niece spoke again. This time, she stumbled over her words, punctuating nearly every other one with an added “um”. After a moment, it became apparent that Asha was voicing her concern about her possibly needing a tutor.
It wasn't an unwarranted request, with her O.W.L.s coming up. Asha had never been a particularly strong student academically; it was creativity to which she was drawn, though Parvati had to commend her for recognizing that she was in need of assistance. “Asha,” Parvati spoke, her voice relaxed, “there's nothing wrong with that.” She would have been more worried for her niece if she hadn't sought out additional help.
Doubtful that Asha had approached any of her professors about the matter, Parvati knew that she had to start from the bottom. “Which subjects?”

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged words 000 notes anything here. | Asha liked talking to her aunt. She knew what she said to her aunt wouldn’t be repeated back to her mother, to some extent. She smiled though when her aunt answered her question about how her work was going. Your welcome Aunt Parvati she said. She always tried to try in asking her aunt and her parents how their days were going at their boring normal wizarding jobs. She was hoping when she brought up the idea of not having a normal wizarding job that her aunt would sweet talk her mother into the idea. Asha never was one to be the “normal” person. She always took pride in being the odd person out. The one thing she never wanted to do though was ask for help or let anyone know that she couldn’t do something or that she wasn’t able to. She didn’t like that show of weakness. She never wanted to ever seem like she wasn’t able to do something. Her face had turned a bright red when she was talking about needing help. She looked up when her aunt said her name calmly and said that it was okay to ask for help. Her aunt then asked what subjects. Asha hadn’t even talked to her professors or her parents about this. Her face turned a deeper shade of red and she looked down letting her curls hide her face. All of them she managed to get out.

All of them. Asha needed help in all of them.
Why her niece hadn't come to her when she had first realized that there was a problem instead of waiting until she was only weeks away from the first major examinations she would have at Hogwarts was a question that Parvati couldn't answer, although she wished that she could have made sense of it. Procrastination might have been part of Asha's problem, it was becoming apparent, though Parvati knew that there was still enough time that her niece would be able to salvage her marks—if they were able to narrow down a decent plan of action for how she could receive tutoring.
Seeing Asha's embarrassment at her situation, Parvati sighed and managed to smile. “We're going to sort this out,” she promised her. It meant racking her brain to think of every possibility and resource that was reasonably available, but Parvati was determined not to leave her niece without options.
Parvati didn't want to make herself sound as though she needed a full interrogation to get the matter dealt with, but she would need more from Asha than just that she was underperforming in everything. Otherwise, they would be going around in circles all day, but part of the responsibility would be on Asha to ensure that she followed through with their plan.
First, however, they had to reach the point of having something concrete with which they could work. Glancing at the quill that she still held in her hand, Parvati thought and looked back across at Asha. “We'll start by making a list of all of your classes,” she began, “and then we'll make a smaller plan for each of them.” Breaking it down by subject would help to keep it all from becoming too overwhelming, especially when O.W.L.s were stressful enough by their nature.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged words 000 notes anything here. | Asha didn’t look up at her aunt. She was beyond embarrassed and hated asking for help. That and her own emotions she wasn’t very good at. She could make everyone think she was, she was queen of drama as some of her family would say. She looked up though into her aunts kind and smiling face when she said that they will work it out. A frown which was hardly on her face shown plain as day. Asha knew it would take a miracle for them to even think of getting Asha anywhere near passing her exams. She wasn’t meant for the academics. She was honestly trying to concentrate now which is part of her problem. The ability to focus unless its dance or music.
Her aunt said that she needed a list of Asha’s classes and they would make small plans for them. Okay she said and then wrote down her classes handing them over to her aunt. Maybe we could have…someone watching me while I attempt at studying. I don’t seem to do well when I am by myself. I get bored, then distracted, and soon I am making up new dance moves instead of what I should be doing she admitted in almost one breath. Asha talked fast when she was nervous. She was hoping she would be able to do this, pass her exams. She didn’t want to repeat the year and she wanted to make her parents proud. She just wondered if she was too late.

Taking it step by step was the only way that they would be able to begin the whole process of figuring out what needed the most of Asha's attention as she entered the examination period, and Parvati was glad to hear that her niece was agreeable to the idea of listing everything out and going from there.
After Asha wrote down her classes and handed that list over to her, Parvati began to look over it.
“Maybe we could have… someone watching me while I attempt at studying,” Asha proposed to her. “I don’t seem to do well when I am by myself. I get bored, then distracted, and soon I am making up new dance moves instead of what I should be doing.”
While Parvati was glad that Asha was aware of her own distractibility, she wasn't sure how feasible it would be to have someone keeping an eye on Asha whenever she needed to study something. For one thing, her exam revision would be—or needed to be—increasingly frequent over the next few weeks, and giving someone the sole responsibility of ensuring that she did her work would take that person away from their other responsibilities, whether they were a prefect or a member of school staff.
“Hmmm…” Parvati thought and considered the list that she held in her hands. As much as she loved her niece, she couldn't inconvenience anyone for her sake, and she couldn't take on the task herself because of the other students with whom she had to meet and the confidentiality that surrounded her interactions with them.
“Do you think that having a Remembrall might help you to focus, Asha?” she wondered. “It can't tell you what you've forgotten, of course, but…” It was a thought, anyway.
