Riley was more quiet than she expected, but then again she should have expected it. Anyone who knew Dom and how much she cared about Ethan seemed hesitant to talk with her about him, except for Séamus. He let her talk about whatever she wanted without ever really giving off that pity vibe, which was good because Dom hated that. Riley never acted like he pitied her either, but some things were hard to talk about, and Ethan was definitely one of those things. She shrugged when he asked more questions. "Yes," she answered vaguely. Dom wasn't really trying to be rude or not answer questions, but she left the castle to try and think of something other than Ethan, not to talk about him with someone else. "Oooh look! Honeydukes! Let's go in there for a second!" She grabbed Riley's arm and started pulling him to the shop, only pausing once they were right outside the door. She paused,"You don't have to come in if you don't want, it looks really crowded. I just want something sweet," she winked at her friend. Yes, she was avoiding talking about Ethan. She couldn't seem to help it.

Riley noticed right away that talking about Ethan made her uncomfortable and sad. He understood her feelings perfectly, it was a hard situation. He was sure that she would tell him more later if and when she felt ready and wanted to talk about it, and he knew that she knew that he was there for her. He liked being a comfort for people. He liked being there for them. He liked being a good, trustworthy guy. It was kind of his thing. He let her drop the subject of Ethan when she wanted to and he went with her over to the candy shop when she pulled him in that direction. "Yeah I could use some study snacks." he admitted. "Something to keep me occupied during those late nights in the library." he teased, walking in with her. He browsed some of the shelves, grabbing a few sugar quills and a box of every flavor beans, a candy that he didn't personally like, but loved watching other people try. "What's your favorite sweet?" he asked her.

Dom was relieved when Riley stopped asking her questions about Ethan. She was fairly certain that he would be able to sense her anxiety on the subject of his return, but she was glad that he was being so sensitive. Riley was normally sensitive, but he normally didn't need to be with her. As a general rule, Dom was strong and knew what she wanted and worked for it and didn't really give in to her weaknesses. At least, not in front of others, even Riley. Her problems and struggles were a private matter. However, over the last several months, she started confiding in several people. Namely, Séamus and Riley. Of course, no one expected Ethan to come back, and from the moment she found him, Dom felt like her life was turned upside down. She was trying to focus on other things, but it was hard. Dom smiled when he told her that he needed study snacks. She wasn't sure if he actually did or if he was just getting some because he knew she wanted to change the subject, but Dom was grateful. "Good," she said in a teasing voice, but with a firm nod of her head. They entered the store and she wandered a short bit, glancing around at everything. The thing about Dom was that making decisions beforehand was hard for her. She did most things more spur-of-the-moment. "Chocolate. Anything chocolate," she called to Riley as she looked at some sour candies next to the every flavor beans. She figured he would probably get something for her, but that didn't mean she couldn't get something as well, right?

Chocolate, she had called to him. Her favorite sweets were chocolate. That was easy enough, there were shelves and shelves of things made out of chocolate in the candy store. He also enjoyed chocolate, so long as there was no peanut butter in them, peanut butter made him uneasy, he really didn't like the texture or consistency. And he really didn't like what the substance did to perfectly fine chocolate. He knew his friend was upset, even if she was trying hard to be her normal strong self and not let him see it. So he picked up a few chocolate frogs, some for his stash and one for her, just as something little to take her attention away from her worries for the time being. Plus the cards were pretty cool. He took his selections up to the counter and paid for them, pulling the small coin sack he carried out of his pocket. He asked the sales lady for a bag for his goodies and waiting up front for Dom to finish making her selections as well. "Wannah just go sit somewhere and start a sugar high?" he asked her, giving her a teasing eyebrow wiggle along with his question.

Gummy, fruity candies seemed the way to go, since Riley was getting something chocolate, she was sure. Why else would he ask what she liked? She decided against the every flavor beans and the sour candy, going for the gummy worms provided. No, they weren't real worms, but they looked like it. At least, a lot more like it than the muggle version of the treat. Dom went to the front and paid for her candies, then moved to Riley, who wasn't far away. He asked if she wanted to sit and get a sugar high, making silly faces at her. Dom laughed and nodded. "That sounds like fun. Do you want to do it here in the village or go get a good view of the Shrieking Shack?" Quite honestly, Dom couldn't care where they went. As long as she could have fun and get the chance to talk a bit with her close friend, Dom didn't have any preferences. So she'd let him choose.

She bought her candies and joined him as they walked out of the shop. She agreed to sit somewhere and just enjoy some of their candies with him, which he had expected her to accept. Something calm and quiet with just the two of them seemed like the best idea right now, he didn't want to add to her stress levels that seeing Ethan coming back had already elevated. "We can just find a bench wherever." he shrugged, but knowing that she wanted him to decide, he made the decision. "Yeah, lets go by the Shrieking Shack." he agreed. He lead her over to a bench with a view of the cottage in the distance but gated around, leaving is unaccessible. He said down and pulled out the chocolate frog he had gotten for her. "Here princess, I got you a frog." he teased, referencing the ever popular Frog Princess fairly tale.

At first Riley seemed pretty indifferent to where they were going, which was not all right for Dom. She was trying to be nice and let someone else make decisions for once! Okay, maybe she was just too lazy to want to actually make a choice at the moment. Oh well! There wasn't anything wrong with that. Except that the person with her had to make the choice. At his first comment about finding a bench "wherever," Dom turned and gave him a pained expression, which disappeared entirely when he decided on the Shrieking Shack. They walked for a bit and then sat down and Dom sighed, just taking in the relaxing atmosphere. She didn't expect that it would be so nice to get out of the castle. She laughed when he offered her a chocolate frog, but her eyebrows furrowed at his words. "I feel like that was a joke, but I don't know for what," she answered slowly. Dom loved jokes, but the best kind were ones she got, so she'd probably try and get him to explain at least a little, if he didn't elaborate enough on his own. She watched him expectantly, a smile on her face.

Riley knew that Dom had no desire for indecisiveness, so he didn’t mind deciding where to go. They sat and he offered her the chocolate along with his joke and he responded that she didn’t understand the reference. He felt shocked. “You’ve never heard the story of the Frog Princess?” he asked. “You know, the princess kisses a frog who turns into a handsome prince? I think Disney even made a movie about it.” he shrugged. His family had only recently given in and allowed muggle electronics into the home, but he was sure even his mom appreciated them. Movies were great and there really was no magic equivalent. “It’s a popular story.” he concluded. Not that his parents had ever read him bedtimes stories from muggles, but it was a book that he read when he was young to himself, Riley had always loved to read and never cared if the stories were written by muggles or wizard, great writing was great writing, at least to the Ravenclaw boy. “So maybe if you kiss your chocolate frog he’ll turn into a chocolate prince.” he teased, well aware it didn’t actually work like that, however, he was curious to see if she’d play along or just shrug him off.

Dom shook her head at his question, smile still on her lips, "No, I haven't heard that story," she told him, watching him curiously when he started explaining a bit more. It definitely sounded interesting. "It's a story about magic?" Dom asked in surprise. Granted, a lot of muggle fairytales had magic in them, which she found deeply amusing. If they loved magic so much in their stories, why were they so oblivious to it in real life? Granted, she was not one who would hold anything against them because they didn't have magic, she just thought it was interesting. She nodded when Riley said it was popular. "So I've gathered. Maybe you'll have to find the real story sometime and show it to me?" she suggested with a shrug of her shoulders. Then he suggested, obviously teasing, that if she kissed her chocolate frog he might become a prince. Dom couldn't help but laugh. "But what would I do with a chocolate prince, Riley?" she teased back, holding the candy frog in her hands close to her, almost as if she were shielding it from him. "I mean, I can't take him anywhere with me, or I'd have to worry about him melting. That just sounds counter-productive." She glanced down at her frog and then back up at her friend, trying to keep her expression straight. She knew he would see through her, but was trying to tease him all the same.

There were a lot of reasons that Riley was friends with Dom Weasley, and almost all of those reasons had come up over the course of this days conversation. She was fun, she played with him and he almost always played along. She understood his humor and his jokes and she was funny in similar ways. It seemed to be a friendship made by Merlin himself. Riley was so thankful to have her as his best friend. He wasn't a person who had a lot of close friends, most kids thought he was weird since he could read people and it was difficult to keep things from him. But, for people who were just honest from the beginning, it wasn't ever an issue. "Yeah, it's magic, but dark magic. It's voodoo if I recall. The prince was selfish so a voodoo man turns him into a frog." he explained. "If your frog became a prince then you'd at least have more chocolate. You'd probably get at least a dozen times more chocolate out of your purchase." he teased, biting into his own frog. "I'll see if I can get my families copy of the book over the summer. I don't think my parents really need it." all of his siblings were grown and in Hogwarts, no one was going to miss a children's book.

Dom listened with interest as Riley started to explain a bit more about this Princess and the Frog story. It sounded interesting. Hmm ... she might have to make him show it to her sometime. Or she'd just find it on her own, now that she knew it existed. Her eyebrows lifted in surprise when he told her that the magic in the story was voodoo. "Well that's interesting," she commented, thinking about what he said. Then she started to laugh. "If my chocolate frog turned into a prince, I don't know what I'd do with myself ... wait. Are you saying he'd be a chocolate prince or that he, as a prince, would just buy me lots of chocolate," she winked at her friend, laughing at her own joke. She nodded when he said he could get her the book. "I'd like to read it," she confirmed immediately. This wasn't something she had to debate over. She was interested, for sure.

"I figured the chocolate frog would just turn into a chocolate in the shape of a prince." He shrugged, taking another bite out of his own chocolate frog. Riley was a fan of chocolate. He had a bit of a sweet tooth and didn't try to hide it. Chocolate was the best of the sweets and easy to come by around the school because someone always stocked up when they were at the village. Not to mention the fact that the house elves were always willing to bake anyone anything at almost any time. "You might be able to find it in the library here. I'm honestly not too sure how big of a selection Hogwarts has when it comes to muggle books, but I imagine they touch on muggle fairy tales and stories in the muggle studies class." he said again. he wasn't taking muggle studies. His parents encouraged him and his siblings not to waste their time on that subject and while Riley didn't really see it as a waste of time, he didn't have a lot of interest in it either.

Dom laughed and nodded when Riley said the chocolate would just be shaped like a prince. "I suppose that makes sense. I could definitely eat a chocolate prince." She could eat a chocolate anything, in all honesty. Anyone who really knew Dom knew that she loved chocolate and probably ate more of it than she should. She smiled, nodding again when he suggested the library might have the book he was talking about. "I'll have to take a look at it then," she informed him. Her chocolate was gone so she looked to her friend and quirked her head to the side. "Are we ready to leave now? We could find something more exciting to do here ... or on the castle grounds," she suggested with a wry smile. She was game for anything right now. Riley did a great job at distracting her.

There was really nothing that Riley Fudge loved more than these chats with his close friends. He didn't have a lot of close friends and sometimes it really got to him. He had Lydia and he knew he could always talk to her. But Dom was likely the closest thing he had to a true best friend. Lydia and him, while close, were different people and didn't always see eye to eye on everything under the sun. She asked if they were all ready to leave and find something else to do. Riley nodded. "Sure, we can head back and find something along the way." he agreed. He wasn't tied to doing anything in particular today. He was just out for a walk and was happy to have ran into his friend and had given her a little distraction from the epic woe of Ethan's return to the castle. The Ravenclaw stood and extended his hand to his friend to help her stand as well. Not that she needed help. But Riley was a gentleman. The two Ravenclaws with the rest of their sweet purchases in tow, began walking back towards the castle in search of something else to entertain them for a while.
