As they walked along the corridors on their way to the Great Hall, Kinsey focused on him. She rolled her eyes when he said there wasn't more to know about him than what he already told her, but she waited for him to finish before trying to encourage him to say more. She smiled, "I don't know what I want to do either, if that's any consolation." She watched him curiously for a moment. "But i wanted more than that. What other things do you like to do? What are your likes and dislikes? That kind of thing," Kinsey encouraged. She wasn't saying anything about herself yet, but she would in a bit. First she wanted to learn more about him. As much as she could, anyway.

She assured him that she wasn't sure of her plan either and it did kind of maker him feel better. He wanted to something that honored all of the time that he spent studying people and how to read them, maybe psychology or he had even considered being a private investigator, but he knew those were mainly seen as muggle professions and his parents might not approve. He had been seriously considering creating his own Wizard Psychology practice, surely wizards had things they needed to work thought just as muggles did, and if he did so, then maybe his parents would approve a bit more seeing as he was still keeping his career separate from the muggle world. Plus, he had never met a Wizard Psychologist. Maybe it was a market that was currently lacking. "Maybe we can help each other figure it out." he suggested with a shrug. He felt like he had known her forever, like they were best friends already. Maybe something like their encounter last night was something that put them at that level. He liked the idea of her being his best friend, though Dom Weasley might have felt a little pushed aside by that since he was fairly sure she was currently his best friend. She asked him for more and he obliged, "well my favorite food is Potatoes but I really just love to eat in general, I prefer tea to coffee and I have peppermint tea with lemon. I really hate peanut-butter, I hate that it makes your mouth all sticky and dry. And let's see..." he paused. "My favorite place to be is in front of the fire in the Ravenclaw Common Room." he concluded, feeling a little weird for spilling his little quirks like that, but he hoped that she was satisfied with his answer. "Now it's your turn, tell me everything." he insisted.

He seemed to be considering his options for a moment when she said that she didn't know what she wanted to do and Kinsey watched him with an easygoing smile. He was so fun to talk to and she was still a little surprised that he was still here talking with her, but she was happy all the same. When he suggested that they could help one another, Kinsey grinned at him. "I love that idea!" she exclaimed. If they helped one another it meant they would still be doing things together. While Kinsey was starting to believe the Riley really was serious about wanting to help her and get to know her and such, she was still a little anxious he'd change his mind. That was yet another reason to keep her secret from him. When she got her gift, all the relationships with her family changed. Once he knew, he would probably treat her different too, if he still wanted anything to do with her, that is. He started talking about himself like she asked and Kinsey couldn't stop herself from smiling. He was so sweet and his answers were interesting. She nodded when he finished by describing his favorite place. Then he told her to tell him everything and she froze for half a second. She couldn't tell him everything, but she would definitely tell him what she could. "Everything?" she asked, quirking her eyebrow. "You think it's going to take all day to get to the Great Hall, eh?" Kinsey laughed and then started. "Let's see ... my favorite food is custard and I like to cook. I like rain and water and nature and animals. Reading books by candlelight is the best, and I love flying and Quidditch," she shrugged at him. "I don't like chocolate. It just feels like eating dirt. My favorite place is literally anywhere outside, though I do really like the pond," she looked over at him for a second. "Oh! And I'm the middle child in my family. My older brother Dustin and two older sisters that you know, and then three younger triplets in Hufflepuff." She pursed her lips as she thought for another moment. "Did I forget something?"
She looked up to Riley and then realized they were at the Great Hall, and it was busier than normal. Kinsey felt knots form in her stomach, though she kept the smile on her face as they approached. She came to meals late for one reason: to avoid the crowd so she wouldn't get overwhelmed. Just like if you threw a sneakoscope into a room of people, it would light up and screech loudly, putting Kinsey in a room with hundreds of people was a dangerous thing. If she'd been alone, she would have left right then. She didn't need to go into the Hall to know what would happen next. If she were on her own, she would go to the kitchens and ask for a snack. But she wasn't alone. Riley was there. She continued to walk forward, trying to brace herself for the inevitable. The barrage of intentions coming at her were like a slap in the face and Kinsey instantly had a headache. She stepped a little closer to Riley. Maybe if she was close enough to him she'd be able to fade out the others and focus on him, like she had with Cameron at the carnival.
Her eyes scanned the room and she saw a spot that looked like it was big enough for two people on the Ravenclaw table. Her head was pounding and Kins knew she needed to sit down. Soon she'd start to feel dizzy if she didn't do something. "Look, there's a spot over there," she said, taking Riley's hand and pulling him in the right direction. Once they were moving, she let him go, feeling extremely aware of the fact that touching him had given her something else to focus on. In those moments she was fine. But they were just starting to be friends. She couldn't just grab his hand and keep it. She hurried and sat down, only realizing once she was seated that there was barely room for both of them to sit there. It'd be tight, but maybe sitting close to him would help her. She looked up at him apologetically. "Sorry, it looked like there was more room than this," she explained, hoping he'd sit instead of trying to look for somewhere else to go.

Riley loved hearing her explain all about herself, and he made a few mental notes that he would likely jot down in his notebook rather than pay attention in class. He felt so weird doing that with her, he never felt weird about writing things down about other people, but she was different and he wanted to write things down for a different reason than normal. Normally, he wanted to write things down to research and study them later, when it came to Kinsey, he wanted to write things down about her to remember them all. He wanted to remember that she didn't like chocolate so he never thought to get her chocolates. He wanted to remember that she liked to read by candlelight, similarly to how he felt about reading by firelight in the common room. "Oh yeah, I'm the middle child too." he added, though he was fairly sure that she already got that since he earlier mentioned that he had an older brother and a younger sister.
The two approached the great hall and Kinsey grabbed onto his arm. He could tell that she was overwhelmed and wondered why, he wondered if she had anxiety, it would make sense given what he already knew she was going though, he almost asked if she wanted to avoid the great hall and maybe go to the kitchens or something instead, however, she began to power through, though everything about her screamed that she was uncomfortable and it was pretty easy for him to tell. She pointed to an available area at their house table and she lead him by the hand over to it. She let go of his hand and he wondered why, maybe he was right, maybe she didn't like to be touched. They sat down in a sport where there was obviously not quite enough space for both of them, but he genuinely didn't mind, it made him happy to be close to her. "That's okay, this is fine with me." he insisted, not wanting to make her feel any more uncomfortable than she already was. He reached and poured himself a glass of pumpkin juice. "Want some?" he asked, offering to pour her a glass also.

Kinsey smiled at Riley when he mentioned that he was also a middle child. "No wonder we get along so well," she teased, though it actually was kind of true. They'd actually interacted with one another for the first time less than 24 hours ago and she already felt close to him. She felt like she'd really known him for years, even though that definitely wasn't true. She was glad she was getting to know him now. Kinsey was surprised by how calm he made her feel.
Once they were both sitting down, Kinsey realized that he'd probably noticed her freaking out. After all, he realized she was being bullied just because she jerked a little when he touched her. Kinsey couldn't help but wonder what he was attributing her nerves to now. Maybe he thought her bully was nearby or that she just didn't like people. She wanted to ask him what he thought, but she didn't know how and she didn't want to make things awkward. However, she'd been right about having him so close. It did help. Their legs were touching under the table and when they were still, their shoulders would probably touch as well. That contact saved her. Her headache started to fade away instantly and Kinsey felt her energy coming back. He was going to think she was crazy unless she acted like she was slowly recovering, but Kins didn't want to. That felt too much like lying to him and she didn't want to lie. Riley asked if she wanted pumpkin juice and Kinsey nodded, "Yes please." She watched him pour it, her smile widening. He was so cute and she was finding it a little hard to believe that he was sitting here with her instead of with someone else. "So what's your favorite breakfast food?" she asked, still watching him curiously. She should eat, but she was a little distracted at the moment.

He poured her a glass of pumpkin juice and set it in front of her as well. He also took a few pieces of toast and set them on his plate, getting ready to spread butter over the browned bread. She asked what his favorite breakfast food was and he blushed, "well when I was little I used to only eat eggs if they had the runny yokes and I would dip my toast into the yokes." he explained, "but I've sense broadened my horizons a little and now I just have toast and sausage most days." he admitted, taking a few sausage links onto his plate. "Every now and then I'll have my eggs runny though." he gave her a little wink. "What about you? What are you reaching for?" he asked, giving a slight head nod to the table that was covered from end to end in various breakfast foods.

Once she had her pumpkin juice, Kinsey picked it up and took a sip. Before he answered, he was taking toast and answering her question. His story made her smile. She'd never tried eggs with runny yokes, but maybe she should. When he winked at her, Kinsey's heart fluttered. Wow, these feelings were coming out of nowhere. "I've never actually had an egg with a runny yoke," she commented off-handedly. Then she thought for a moment, looking at the table. "It really depends on my mood," she started. "but I like omelettes and fruit. In the winter I really like oatmeal or anything that's warm. I hate being cold. Does that work?" Kinsey looked around. "I think right now I want ... waffles! Do you like waffles?" she reached for them and took two, glancing over at Riley as she did so.

She asked if he wanted a waffle and he took a second to glance over his current plate. He had his normal breakfast already there, but, he had just admitted earlier that he liked to eat, and nothing was better than carbs in the morning so he decided to walk on the wild side. "Sure, why not? I'll have a waffle." he agreed with a smile. He allowed her to put one onto his plate and then he reached for the maple syrup, pouring some over both his waffle and his sausages, wondering if she would find him weird for having syrup on his sausages. "So are you ready for all your classes today? You got all your stuff? Ready to sit and be bored for a few hours?" he asked before taking a bite of a sausage link. There were some classes he loved and some he hated, he knew there were Ravenclaws and other students who loved all of their classes, but he had never been one of them. He enjoyed the classes in which he could use his outside studies and his self-taught skills of observance, other classes bored him to tears. "Hey maybe we can meet up again for lunch." he teased.

Deciding whether or not he wanted a waffle seemed like a big decision to Riley, which made Kinsey curious. What was he thinking about? Did he not like waffles and wanted to impress her or was he just really excited for toast? Interesting. When he agreed she gave him a waffle and then waited for him to use the syrup before taking it for herself. "Interesting choice: syrup and sausages," she commented, winking at him now. She wasn't normally a winker, but he did it first and apparently it was a good way to show you were teasing. Supposedly. She laughed at his next few questions. "I'm as ready as I'm going to be," she told him. She scrunched her nose at him. "What makes you think I'm going to be bored?" Kinsey asked curiously. Did he think she didn't like her classes? She thought for a moment. Today she actually did like her classes. "I actually have good ones today. You?" she told Riley cheerfully as she started eating her waffles. He commented that they might be able to meet up for lunch and Kinsey hesitated. Was he teasing or serious? She couldn't tell. She bit her lip a little before deciding to pretend like he wasn't serious. "Well if you want to meet with me you're going to have to find me outside. I'm not coming in here for lunch," Kinsey answered honestly. She was not going to come back into the Great Hall before she had to.

She commented on his choice of putting syrup on his sausages and he blushed a little, "It's actually really good, the maple syrup works really well with the smokey flavor in the meat." he admitted. "You wannah try it?" he offered, picking up one on his fork and offering for her to take a bite if she wanted to. He realized he had no idea if she even ate meat, or if it was weird to offer for her to try his breakfast. He and his friends would try each others things, he was sure it was harmless. She scrunched her nose when he asked if she was going to be bored, "Well I get easily bored in classes, I guess I just assumed everyone did." he shrugged. She told he that she had the good classes today, which of course prompted his next question, "and what are the good ones?" She went on to tell him that she wasn't returning to the Great Hall for lunch and he began to wonder if it was for the same reason that she got flustered when they first entered the hall this morning. "Outside by the pond?" he asked, raising an eyebrow, remembering that she told him that the Pond where he found her last night was her favorite place.

Kinsey was surprised, to say the least, when Riley started to blush. Was he embarrassed that he liked sausages with syrup. He started to explain why, offering some to her. Kinsey looked at it for a moment and then took a bite without even thinking about it. Her eyes widened and she was kind of surprised to find that she actually did like the sweet syrup with the sausage. “That is good,” she said, pulling away. It was at that moment that she realized she actually ate food off of his fork. She didn’t mind, but she looked around quickly to see if any of her sisters were near and if they were watching her. She sighed when she realized they weren’t, also surprised when she realized that most people in the Great Hall were gone now. Sitting close to Riley worked, and she was glad. There was a little more room on the bench now, but Kinsey didn’t scoot over. Being this close to him was almost as good as having his arms around her, except it wasn’t.
Kinsey laughed when Riley explained that he got bored in his classes. “Well even with the fun classes sometimes there are boring days, but the good classes are the interesting ones! I really like charms and arithmancy and ancient runes because they keep me thinking. Sometimes transfiguration and potions are good. I like astronomy, but I get tired in that one and sometimes fall asleep,” she shrugged, assuming he wouldn’t judge her since he just said he got bored in class. “Do you prefer any subjects?” Kinsey was surprised by how interested she was in getting to know him, but she couldn’t seem to help it. It was just fascinating for her, listening to him talk about things he cared about, even if it was just school.
When she said she’d be eating outside for lunch, Riley’s expression was curious when he asked if she’d be by the pond. She thought about it for a moment. “Probably. I tend to eat there a bit, especially when it’s nice outside.” Not many students went to the pond, so it was a very peaceful place, which Kinsey appreciated. “Why?”

She was glad that she took a bite and it wasn't weird or anything, and he felt a little bit of pride mixed with just a happy, amused feeling when she admitted that it was good. He nodded and continued eating. He watched her look around the great hall after having taken the bite however and he knew she was looking to see if anyone saw the two together, or perhaps she was looking to see if her tormentor was in the room. He glanced around a bit himself, a lot of people had cleared out since classes were starting soon. Sh explained which of her classes she loved and he nodded, he shared a few favorites, "Yeah, I'm a fan of Potions and Astronomy, I also really like Divination because I'm really good at it." he admitted, he wasn't good at it because he had a gift, however, he was good at it because of his own self-taught talents. Because based on the situation around them, he was good at predicting the outcome or figuring out at least vaguely what someone was thinking or feeling. "But hey, I bet were actually in a lot of those together, I can't imagine there are that many NEWT level classes for the same subject." he suggested. He had never noticed her in class before, but that wasn't saying much since he really didn't know who she was until last night. She went on to say that she would likely be at the pond and then asked him why he was asking. He shrugged, "Maybe I'll run into you." he shrugged but smirked.
A few moments later the bells toweled in the clock tower signalling that classes started in about 15 minutes. He hurried and finished his breakfast and then began to collect his bag. "So where are you off to first this morning?" he asked, wondering if she had Charms first like he did. "Maybe I can walk you if it's on my way."

Honestly, Kinsey loved all her classes. She enjoyed learning and did very well in all of them, but more were exciting than others. She couldn’t help but smile when he told her the classes he liked. Wait. He was in potions and astronomy? Kinsey was a little surprised that she never noticed him in those classes, but then again she hadn’t ever looked for him before. She knew who he was, but other than that she didn’t have a reason to want to associate with him. She shrugged. “I never took Divination, but I’m glad you’re good at it.” Being good at subjects was also a bit of fun. She smiled when he brought up what she’d been thinking, that they were probably in some classes together. She shook her head ruefully, “We probably are. I can’t believe I never noticed you before.” Granted, she didn’t have a reason to notice him, but it would have been nice to have the type of friendship they were making. He was smirking as he said that he might run into her at the pond. She tapped her chin as if she were thinking. “Well … I suppose I could allow that,” she answered, smiling a few moments later. She wouldn’t mind Riley joining her at all.
She turned her attention to her food when the bell rang and quickly finished it. Riley was picking up his bag and asking where she was going. “Uhhh … I have charms first,” she told him, a little distracted as she looked around for her bag. She found it and stood, facing him just in time to hear him say he might be able to walk her. “Is it on your way? What class do you have first?” Kinsey asked curiously. She wasn’t going to accept his suggestion unless she knew she wouldn’t be a burden. Which meant knowing what class he had.

"Well wouldn't that be a pleasant surprise?" he asked regarding the two of them having a few classes together. He couldn't help but think that even though she refused his offer to walk her around during the day to and from her classes it might end up happening anyway, at least for a handful of lessons and meals. Hew as sure there were classes they weren't in together obviously because she had mentioned arithmancy and ancient runes, two classes that he had never taken, and he was at least in Divination alone. He wondered if she would let him sit with her in the classes that they did have together. Or, would she want to sit with any of her other friends? He wouldn't mind if she wanted to sit on her own, he didn't want her to get sick of him, especially not this quickly, but if she would allow him to sit with her then he would happily oblige. "Oh I actually have charms too." he smirked. "So yeah, I'd say it's on my way." he teased a little. He was feeling a little bold by the fact that they were suddenly discovering that they had a handful of classes together, so he offered her his arm, the same as he would do for any of his girl-friends to lace their arm through if he was walking with him. It was the polite thing to do when escorting a lady, and he was raised in a house where manors were very important. "Shall we?" he asked.

He seemed to like the idea of them having some classes together, calling it a pleasant surprise. "It would be," Kinsey agreed. Having classes together meant she'd see him more and that if he actually wanted to he could walk with her or sit with her. She froze for a second, telling her brain to quit it. Just because they had classes together did not mean that Riley would want to spend all his time with her so Kinsey needed to be careful not to get her hopes up. She wasn't going to assume that Riley was going to put her ahead of his other friends, even though he said he didn't have many. If he asked to sit with her though, she would say yes, but she was trying to not expect that. When he said he had charms and then teased her about it being on his way, Kinsey made a face at him and slapped his shoulder lightly. She wasn't trying to hurt him, just tease him back and show him that he was being a punk. Before she could say anything he was offering his arm like a gentleman. Kinsey stared for a moment and then slid her arm through his, sighing at his kind intentions. If he was always like this, she was never going to get tired of being around him. That was her main concern, though. That he'd somehow change or that he wasn't what he appeared to be, which was almost perfect. Still, his intentions were good and her gift had never misled her before, so she trusted him. "Yes," she responded and the two walked down to charms together, where they actually did end up sitting beside one another. ---the end--- @riley
