Andy was pretty nervous about tonight. It was the night that Natalia was going to attempt and enter her dreams. She didn't want Natalia to have to see any of her nightmares, so she tried to save a little extra time for a longer meditation before bed.
She thought of things that made her happy. Roses. Hot chocolate. A beach. Campfires. Music. She didn't think of specific people, because that was usually where her dreams went wrong. She'd think of someone before bed and the next thing she knew she was avenging them in some way or hurting them herself. She didn't want Natalia to have to see any of that.
She thought about the color red, and how it reminded her of those roses and Gryffindor and the sunsets. She thought about the color green, and how it reminded her of plants and marbled stone. She thought about....
She fell asleep.
At first the dreams didn't come. But, as they always do, they showed. It started with her sitting in a garden, lush with flowers and greenery. She sat at a table, a tea set in front of her. She smiled, lifting the glass to her lips but pausing to look inside. The tea was... Red. And thicker than tea. She gasped, the tea cup falling out of her hands and clattering against the table, splashing the liquid all over her shirt, neck and face. She pushed away from the table, her chair scraping the stone ground as she stood, frantically trying to wipe off the stuff. But it just spread out, onto her hands and arms now.

Natalia wasn’t sure what she was doing. She had agreed to try to walk in Andy’s dreams tonight, but the question still remained of how, exactly, she was going to do that. Despite combing through the literature, and having Eliza do the same, Natalia couldn’t find a single instance of something like this occurring before, so she had no guidance whatsoever. Her strategy was basically going to be thinking about Andy before she fell asleep and hoping that it would work. It was counterintuitive, though, because wondering whether or not she would find herself in the right person’s dreams that night was fraying Natalia’s nerves, and making it difficult for her to find the peace that she needed to slip away into sleep.
--- When sleep came, Natalia didn’t have a moment to actually rest before she was plunged headfirst into a whirling vortex of colors and disembodied sounds. She was surrounded by green and she could hear the wind whistling through leaves, but for a terrifying minute, she couldn’t escape the fragmented half-sleep that she had been thrust into. When she did escape, Nat stumbled a few feet. When she regained her balance, she looked up, and had to stifle a scream. Andromeda was in front of her, covered in blood that she was trying to wipe off. “Andy!” Natalia said, the word nearly choking her. “It’s a dream!” The whole reason that Natalia had wanted to visit her sister’s dreams was so that the younger girl wouldn’t have to face her nightmares alone, but that started by Andy believing that they were nightmares, and not reality.

Andy looked up when she heard her name, seeing Natalia. A dream? Oh, right, she thought. Natalia was supposed to come into her dreams tonight... so this was a dream. She stopped wiping at her arms and nodded. It was easy for her to overcome the nightmare because she remembered her plans with Nat and it was easy to believe because her sister wouldn't lie to her. If Natalia said it was a dream, then it was. "Oh. Right," she muttered. She took in a shuddering breath and nodded, "hi. I'd offer you tea but... it looks like it's not tea," she said, gingerly stepping toward the table and leaning forward to look in the tea pot. It looked like tea now. Not like blood anymore. "Okay... maybe it is tea," she looked up at her dream sister. "I'm glad you're here," she said, offering a soft smile. She crossed from behind the table toward Nat. "Know anything about getting dream blood off?" she asked, surveying her arms for a moment that were still red streaked.

Natalia tried to read Andy’s expression when her sister agreed that it was a dream, but the older girl couldn’t tell whether her sister was chagrined or sheepish or sad or scared or anything. A frown pulled at the corner of her mouth, especially when Andy said that it had been the tea in the tea pot that was the source of blood. It was one thing to have nightmares about doing bloody things and ending up covered in blood, but drinking tea was normal, and it had still ended poorly for Andy. “I’m glad I’m here, too.” Nat said, trying to keep her voice gentle. When they got a new patient at the hospital, they were supposed to be reassuring and supportive, which was what Natalia normally tried to do with her sister anyways, but the reality of the situation was so much different than she had imagined. “If it’s your dream, then you control what happens.” Natalia responded when her sister asked about getting the blood off. “So if you think it’s not there anymore… it might disappear?” She suggested. If worst came to worse, Nat could try to will it away on her own. Who knew how much control she had over others’ dreams when she was in them.

Natalia said she was glad she was there too and Andy smiled. Then, Nat suggested just willing the blood to not be there anymore. "Oh... that's... okay," she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, picturing her arms to be as clean as she wanted them to be. Then she opened her eyes. The red was gone. "Oh! Cool. So I guess I just have to realize I'm dreaming and that's a superpower I'll have... you're smart," okay, now she was just acting weird. She sighed, lowering her arms. She took a step toward Natalia. "I think the tea is safe, Nat. If you want some," she said, her voice a little softer. She was feeling a little high right now, in all honesty. Having Natalia right there in her own dream... it was strange and amazing. Still, she was partly afraid that she was going to make dream Nat disappear if she touched her... so she was keeping her distance.

Natalia watched, slightly interested to see whether or not her sister would succeed in cleaning the blood off her own. Nat was relieved to watch it vanish, and probably equally relieved that she didn’t have to test her limit of control in others’ dreams. It was bad enough to think about walking in on others’ dreams; being able to change them, too, would make her feel even more meddlesome. “The Hat didn’t put me in Ravenclaw for nothing.” Nat teased at her sister saying that she was smart. Andy seemed a little off, but Nat attributed that to the how recently she had just been covered in blood. “I’m fine.” Natalia said when Andy offered her tea. “It’s all fake anyways, isn’t it?” Dreaming of drinking tea wouldn’t make her any less thirsty when she woke up, and Natalia would rather focus on her sister than on drinking fake tea. Nat paused for a moment, shuffling through her thoughts. “Do you want to talk about your nightmare?” She offered quietly.

Natalia made a little tease about the 'smart' comment, mentioning her house back at Hogwarts. Here at Hogwarts? Dreaming was confusing. Natalia said she was fine with the tea, which obviously was fake. Andy willed the tea away and it vanished along with the table and chairs. The outdoor garden was incredibly green and vibrant, too much to be reality. She would have to remember to look for stuff like that when Nat wasn't there... to remind herself that it was a dream. "Yes, fake," Andy agreed, taking in her surroundings, looking for any little clue that this wasn't real life.
Natalia asked if she wanted to talk about her nightmare, her voice rather soft. Andy pursed her lips to one side, looked down at her hands again, and then back up at Nat. "I'm not sure. I mean, blood is pretty standard. I think I just have to get used to it," she stated, almost flatly. That was weird. She was happy to have Natalia there, wasn't she? Wasn't the point to talk about her dreams?

Andy said that she wasn’t sure if she wanted to talk about the dream, and Nat forced herself not to frown. She was supposed to be here to help Andy, and judging her sister for not wanting to talk about something that was sure to be traumatizing wasn’t the best way to go about things. Andy said that the blood was pretty standard, and Natalia’s heart broke a little. Here was her baby sister, telling her that being covered in blood was normal, and she just had to adjust to it. Nat didn’t have a clue of what to say. “Do you want to talk about something else, then?” She asked, her voice tight in her throat. She wanted to be there for Andy, but she wasn’t sure how. Nat wanted to help, but everything she could think to do to help could also hurt her sister just as much. She was at a loss.

Natalia asked if she wanted to talk about something else and Andy's brow furrowed. "I don't know... I feel strange. I feel strange having you here," she admitted, looking at her sister with a look of slight panic. "Maybe... if we touched," she suggested, taking a step forward, reaching a hand out. She felt her heartbeat speeding up and she let out a nervous chuckle, "what the hell is wrong with me? Afraid to touch my own sister. I hate dreams, Nat," she admitted, swallowing hard, "I hate them. I guess it's nice to have someone in here with me but... I wish I didn't have to have them at all, you know? And... wait, do you even have your own dreams anymore?" Andy suddenly asked, hers eyes widening a little. Did Natalia get to opt out of dreaming on her own now?

Natalia knew that her sister didn’t mean any insult by saying that it was strange to have her there, but the Ravenclaw still felt a pang of something that was a cross between shame and sadness in her stomach at the thought. She still didn’t know what to do with this ability, and she had thought that helping her sister through her nightmares would be a good way to put it to use… but if Andy didn’t want her there… “It’s okay, Andy.” Nat assured her sister, though her voice was somewhat shaky. “Don’t do anything you’re not comfortable with.” She was here to make things better, not worse. Andy continued to talk about dreams, and how she wished that she didn’t have to have them at all, eventually culminating in the question of whether or not the Ravenclaw had dreams of her own anymore. Nat paused. Had she had her own dreams since she had begun finding herself in others? “None that I remember.” She admitted. It was probably better that way, Natalia mused. She had her own share of demons, and in her last year of Hogwarts, she had many, many sleepless nights remembering being tortured. “Maybe I should start a journal.” Both to track whose dreams she had visited, and her own, if they ever returned.

Natalia said it was okay, but Andy didn't believe that. She wasn't sure anything was really okay, at least not on the surface. Natalia confirmed that she didn't remember he own dreams and Andy sighed, feeling a little jealous. At the idea of a journal Andy nodded, "that's a great idea, I think. It could help make a little sense of things," she suggested, nodding. She took a step forward, her brow furrowing, "it's a little weird to get used to... though, I'm sure it's worse on your end," she guessed. She lifted a hand up, slowly reaching toward Natalias cheek. Maybe if she just touched her this all wouldn't feel so... weird. She didn't want it to feel weird. That defeated the purpose.

Nat nodded when Andy said that a journal would help her make sense of things. There was something calming about seeing all your thoughts written out on paper, which was why Nat had enjoyed writing essays so much when she was in school – every essay was just a way of organizing the thoughts that were already in her head, and maybe learning a little more in the process. Natalia shrugged when Andy said that it must have been worse for her to adjust to the whole dream-walking thing. Maybe it was, but she also had a lot to gain from this experience. When she was able to control it a little more she’d be able to explore a world that most people didn’t know existed, and that was beautiful. Nat was distracted from the beauty by the feeling like she was about to vomit. “Andy –” Nat began, aware of the fact that her sister was reaching out for her, but also aware of the fact that she was about to be jerked from the dream. Andy’s fingers were just a breath away from Natalia’s cheek when the tugging couldn’t be fought against anymore, and Nat disappeared.
