Aerick chuckled at Olive’s declaration. “Flying? Miss Olive have you ever been on a broomstick before?” he asked her, poking her belly gently and smiling. “Well you’ll have to find someone else I’m afraid; my favorite hobby when I was at school was studying wands,” he told her, pulling out his wand to show her. “Orchideous!” he exclaimed, producing a bouquet of flowers which he presented to Olive with a flourish. “For you my lady,” he told her with a slight bow. As he straightened, Olive mentioned how she wanted to go to Beauxbatons. “Beauxbatons?” Aerick repeated, raising an eyebrow as he looked over at Angela questioningly. That came out of the blue; most four year olds barely knew the name of Hogwarts, much less the other International Wizarding Schools out there. As Angie explained the new Beauxbatons fascination, Aerick hid a smirk. He had been a bartender for nearly five years now, he knew when there was a little more to the story than was being told, and it usually involved someone of the opposite gender. That was Angie’s business though - he had not told her about Clodagh, and it wouldn’t have been the kind of thing he would bring up with her. That was a part of their friendship that they seemed to have mutually agreed not to touch upon, and Aerick was perfectly fine to abide by that rule. “You know Olive, I went to a school that wasn’t Hogwarts too,” he said, turning his attention back to his daughter. “I went to a school named Ilvermorny. That’s in the United States of America, where I’m from,” he told her with a small smile. He hadn’t been back to the American wizarding school since his graduation, and had no plans on going back anytime soon. It didn’t hurt for Olive to know about more than two wizarding schools however. @angie

Olive shook her head when Aerick asked if she had ever been on a broomstick before. “No, mummy doesn’t like them so she never took me.” Olive told the man, glancing up at her poor mother that she had just thrown under the bus. Angie loved how sassy her child could be sometimes. At least she was honest. When Aerick told her that flying hadn’t been his specialty either, olive looked at him curiously as he explained what was and showed her the charm that caused flowers to come out of his wand. Olive took the flowers and put her face in them, smelling them as she had watched her mother do in the shops. Angie loved keeping fresh flowers in the house.
Angie felt a little silly that olive was so impressionable, but she knew that most kids at her age were, and right now, since almost all Olive was truly fascinated in were fairies and other flying creatures, it made sense that, upon learning about a magical school where there were fairies, she would want to go there. Plus, Angie realized that Beauxbatons had a prettier name and Olive was attracted to pretty things. Aerick told Olive that he had gone to a magically school in the United States and the last thing Angie wanted was for her daughter to want to go to school so far away. At least Beauxbatons was still in Europe. Angie wasn’t sure that Olive knew Aerick was from America, she was sure that it had been brought up before when Olive asked why he sounded different, but she wasn’t sure her little brain had remembered it. But, it seemed like she had. “Do you like it here better or America better?” Olive asked as if she were weighing her options.

Aerick chuckled a little as he glanced up at Angela. “Mummy doesn’t like flying either eh? Guess you’re just going to have to go out there and make some more friends to take you,” he told her, smiling. He knew it wasn’t the safest out there, with Elaine still at large and knowing what she was planning. But it wasn’t worth it to live in fear of what could happen, and shelter oneself and their loved ones until they were positive the danger was passed. If Aerick was honest with himself, the danger would never fully go away, so it was worth it to take chances. As long as it did not get out that he was the father of this beautiful child, she wouldn’t be a target to the Purifiers. He was glad that Olive seemed to like the flowers, and his smile widened as she pressed her nose into them inhaled. “They’re lilies,” he explained. “That’s why they smell so good.” He conjured a vase and held it out so Olive could place the flowers into it, and then proceeded to add some water. “That way they’ll stay pretty and smelling nice longer,” he explained to her, setting the vase on the table. Aerick thought about Olive’s question; there were a lot of pros and cons for both countries. The States, particularly New York, was where Aerick had been born and raised by two loving parents, but it was also where his life had turned completely upside down. Now London had given him a daughter, and someone like Clodagh, but he was involved with the Purifiers and his shamed father was in the same country. “I like both of them the same,” he declared, smiling at her. Olive was pure and innocent; it wasn’t worth trying to put it into words how he felt about the two countries. @angie

“Mummy certainly doesn’t like flying.” Angie nodded with a smile. She never liked it and when she was learning about it in school, she always tried to get out of her lessons and sometimes even just skipped them instead of going. She never wanted Olive to know about any of that, though. She never wanted her daughter to take any ideas of how to behave in school off of how Angie did. Angie planned on giving Olive her freedom and independence when she went off to school, but she also wanted Olive to be smart and make good choices.
“Thank you for the flowers.” Olive told her god father while he put them in a vase with water. “Can I have them in my room, mummy?” Olive asked. Angie nodded and Olive smiled. “They’d look lovely in your room.” Angie agreed. Angie then turned back to Aerick. “Are you planning to stay long? I could make lunch soon if you wanted to join us. But we don’t want to keep you if you were just planning on stopping by…” she explained, not wanting him to feel like he had to say, however, she knew that Olive loved seeing him and she hoped that he had an interest in seeing Olive also, whether or not they were telling people that he was the father, he was, and Angie wanted him and Olive to have a good relationship.

Aerick chuckled; he very much understood wanting to keep ones’ feet on the ground. Of course, Ilvermornys’ sport of choice was Quodpot instead of Quidditch, but the games both involved being up high on a broomstick. Quodpot was just a bit more...explosive, to say the least. Aerick had always been more interested in wandlore, and eventually he wanted to be able to make and sell his own brand of wands from unique and rare woods and varying core types. But for now, he needed to keep a steady job and income, so it was bartending at Club Indigo until he felt secure enough in his finances. If his father had been halfway decent, he would have left his son some money for graduation. Instead the man had taken ALL of the Adler family funds and rushed off to Europe with it. His mother had a great job of course so she could take care of herself, but it meant Aerick had to start from scratch. Add it to the many reasons why he wanted his father dead. At Angela’s mention of lunch, Aerick’s stomach rumbled, and he remembered something. Clodagh had asked to meet him at her favorite lunch spot today, and as he checked his watch he realized he’d be late for if he lingered here too much longer. “I have to get a rain check from you lovely ladies, I am meeting a...friend of mine for lunch,” he told her. He stooped down to Olives height and gave the little girl a kiss on the cheek. “You be good for your Mum okay?” he asked, raising his eyebrows at her. With a small smile, he stood back up and looked over at Angela. “Thanks Ang, for...for everything,” he said, and meant it. He leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek as well, ruffled Olive’s hair, and headed out into the afternoon sunlight. END THREAD
