Zaire walked further into the room and took inventory of the creatures that were there. Just then Crayla asked him if he wanted any help with his checking. "If you wish. You take that side, I'll take the other. Check to see if they have enough food," he commented as he looked to his side of the room, which happened to be the one with the diricawls on it. He couldn't recall immediately who's turn it had been from the Magical Creatures club to check on them but he didn't really care because most of them were idiots. He didn't trust any of them. Most of them weren't even in the club because they cared about the animals. If they did they didn't show it. He cared about them though, and he knew Crayla cared about them. He walked on his chosen side and began to go cage to cage, food receptor to food receptor making sure that each on had a good amount of food in them. He wasn't sure when the club member was supposed to have come but some of the bowls did look empty. The diricawls' food looked very low, probably because there were two of them. When he came close to the cage, both of the creatures approached hesitantly. He stuck his hand out, waiting for them to catch his scent, and both tried sticking their heads into his hand. He grinned like an idiot; he'd been coming in the hut the entirety of their time at Hogwarts attempting to get them to be more comfortable around him and it had finally happened. . "Any problems on your side?" he asked just as he went to put a bit more food in the diricawls' cage.

Cray was given an assignment to take the other side of the cages. Easy, she thought. All she had to do was check on the creatures and make sure they were well stocked and ready for the night before someone else would be by to check on them tomorrow. He went off in his direction and she went off in hers. Magical creatures were something that Cray had an actual soft spot for. She didn’t have many things like that, even bits of Ballet, a thing that she really loved, drove her mad with the various aspects of having to teach it to small children and her detest for some of the costumes. But there was almost no downside to creatures. She scanned the cages and various holding spots for the creatures on her side and determined that a few of them could use more food, some looked as though they hadn’t been filled at all, or maybe had just been filled lightly. She filled them once more and heard her partner's voice call to her asking if there were any problems. “Just a general lacking of food.” she shrugged in response, filling the bins with food as she did. “Nothing that can’t be sorted without too much trouble.” she decided. Once she was finished, she walked over to join him.

He was putting a bit more food in the diricawls' feeding area when he heard her voice rang out from the other side of the area, saying that their was general lack in food but she could fix that. He rolled his eyes; he was going to find out who's turn it had been to feed the creatures today and make it so it was never their responsibility again. They couldn't be trusted, most of the people in the club couldn't be trusted to take care of them the way they were supposed to. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened either. Frankly, he was sick of being the only one -- make that one of the only ones -- that cared enough about the animals to make sure they were fed and to go behind others to clean up their half done work. The most frustrating part about it all was that he couldn't leave the club. That would only solidify the fact that the creatures weren't taken care of. When he was finished, he turned around to see her approaching and he gave her a genuine smile. "Thanks. You'd think the professor would better regulate this." That only made it seem as if the professor didn't care about the animals either. If that was the case, what was their point in teaching? He gave another look around to make sure he hadn't missed any of the creatures areas and once he was satisfied, though not entirely, he turned to her with a smirk on his face. "Alright. I'm yours now. Take me where you will." He didn't actually know where she wanted to go but he was pretty free for anything now that this was done. Anything she wanted to do was probably more interesting that whatever he could find in the common room anyway so it was better than nothing.

With Zaire’s closing statement regarding how the professor should better regulate the classes and club members who were assigned to feeding the creatures, they had finished their volunteer work and could continue on with the rest of their little adventure together. Cray wasn’t entirely sure what she wanted to do. The sun was out and it was a nice day out, however, she had been content by just spending the day in the common room where she didn’t have to deal with people who annoyed her. Though, with Zaire, she knew that no one would bother either one of them, which was one of the best things about the man, people respected him, not that they didn’t respect her, but she knew she’d be safe, especially from that aggravating Gryffindor if she was with Zaire. “Well there are plenty of things I could think of to do with you.” she teased, biting her lip. However, she continued to think of something for them to do now which would put them at a slightly better location. “Maybe we can go lay by the lake?” she offered. She normally wasn’t one for things like that, however, with such attractive company, she was sure they could make the best of it. And if it got warm enough, they could get their feet wet.

She was teasing again and biting her lip as she spoke, going right back into her light flirting and Zaire smirked once again at her. He didn't think she was this flirty with everyone that she spoke with. Just those who were worthy of her time. He wondered briefly how many people that constituted but threw the thought out because it didn't matter. He knew she thought he was worth it and that was all that mattered to him. Made him feel good too. She made the suggestion that they go sit out by the lake and he had to think about it for just a moment. It wasn't too bad outside currently and he doubted the weather had changed any since they'd entered the hut. It wasn't a horrible idea, not his first choice either but he didn't have a first choice and he couldn't think of anything better. "Why not, I have to figure out what these 'plenty of things' are after all." Amusement was lighting up his face but he waved his hand in the direction of the gates before he followed her out. It didn't take them too long to reach the lake where there were a few people scattered out around it. He made sure to pick somewhere that was father away from anyone else that was out and about before he sat in the grass, his arms spaced behind him to hold him up. The sound of the waves provided just enough chatter so the silence wouldn't be weird. He didn't want to talk about O.W.L.S and he really didn't want to talk about school so he decided to ask about something outside of them both. "You have plans for the summer?" he asked out of curiosity. His family traveled sometimes and there was bound to be a dinner or two with Theodosia and her family in the future but he couldn't guess what she'd be doing.

Cray knew that going to the lake wouldn’t be his first choice either, and while neither of them particularly liked being outside with the other students all around, he agreed to go and lay by the water. She really couldn’t think of anything better and going back to the common room after they had decided to get out of the castle seemed like a silly idea. So she followed him towards the lake and to a spot that was far enough away from most of the other students that the two of them might have a little privacy, which the Slytherin girl appreciated. She laid down on her stomach next to him, while he laid propped up on his arms. He asked about summer plans and she shrugged. “Ballet.” she said almost throwing the word away. She loved dancing, however, she didn’t love teaching, but she knew that’s what she had to do in order to build herself up and make herself look good both on paper and on stage. “Who knows if my father has anything planned?” she shrugged. Her father sent her the occasion letter, however, she normally just opened it for the cash and then threw the letter into the fire. She didn’t really care what he had to say. He just just about ruined her life by moving them to England when they were in line for Beauxbatons. “Do you have any plans?” she turned the question on him. “Probably something a lot more glamorous than mine.” she added.

Even with the bit of nip in the air, the sun still felt fantastic on his face and chased away any cold he may have felt. It was getting closer to the summer months and you could feel it in the way the sun beamed down on them. He shut his eyes and moved his face side to side slowly taking in as much warmth as he could when she answered his question. Ballet. Even he could admit that ballet was a particularly beautiful form of dance. Not to mention difficult to be good at. Most purebloods did learn ballroom at some point but the fact that Crayla had enough of an interest in dance to pursue it was admirable. He couldn't remember the last time he'd actually seen her dance. Probably because he knew she didn't practice in front of people and her performances were all over breaks when his parents gave him things to do. Not like they would allow him to go anyway. "When's the next time you practice? I want to watch so I can see how good you've gotten," there was a teasing note in his voice as he spoke but he was partially serious. If she wasn't good, there was no point in pursuing the art because she wouldn't get anywhere with it. The fact that she kept practicing let him know she thought herself to be good. She added in that she didn't know if her father had anything planned just before asking him the same. He took a deep breath, eyes still closed as he thought about the letters he'd received last week from his mother and father. "Same old routine with a dash of something new thrown in," he started out running through his mental list, "Dinner with Theodosia's family, Working with my father at his company, and my mother will be taking me with her on an excursion to Indonesia to locate some potions ingredients since the only person she trusts to do it fell ill." His sister and his father would be staying behind an the trip would probably be later in the summer and last a few weeks. He couldn't decided if he wanted to go or not but he didn't have much of a choice in the matter.

He asked when the next time she was going to practice was and she shrugged. “Whenever I get bored? I do it just about everyday.” she admitted. She’d never forgive herself if she let herself get rusty or put her education before her physical performance/appearance. She had to keep up on her skills, she couldn’t attend classes during the year, obviously, so she had to teach herself a lot of her own skills and learn a lot of her repertoire through memory of seeing it done over breaks. Her enchanted MP3 player was full mostly of classical and ballet pieces - songs she could dance to. Dances that she knew and needed to continue knowing. “I’m doing Cinderella this summer with my company.” she admitted, she hadn’t told anyone else that. She didn't really plan to. She didn’t want people just showing up. She was mostly only doing it because she had to. It was good experience to have down on her resume. Plus, the school that she caught at over the holidays always cast their teachers in their company. The current company and school that she was with catered primarily to children, children’s dance and family entertainment, so them doing Cinderella was no shock.
He explained that he wouldn’t be doing anything out of routine this summer, just dinner with his future-in-laws, and then a trip with his mother to collect some potion ingredients. That sounded...interesting… Cray could imagine how little she would want to go on a work trip with her father. “Do you want to go with your mother?” the French girl asked. “That sounds kind of...boring.” she admitted. Cray thought about his and Theo’s situation often. She found herself friends with both of them and sometimes felt a little envious of their luck. She knew how out of the ordinary her thoughts were, but if she had been set up in something like what they had, it would solve a lot of her problems for her. She’d happily marry for money or status rather than love. What did love have to do with it? If her partner was attractive and came from a good family, that would be all the love she needed. “Do you like Theodosia’s family?” she asked.

Zaire coughed out a quick laugh at her response. He assumed she practiced a lot more than just once a day; she could be as bored as he was around this place at times. It wasn't too surprising to think about her practicing everyday. It was something she had to do to stay skillful and she was dedicated to her art. She surprised him though when she mentioned that she was going to be in a production of Cinderella during the summer. "Where at?" he asked. He was interested in seeing her dance, plus a performance was bound to be better than a practice session. Both could be interesting really. He had a busy schedule for the summer so if everything aligned well, he could go see her dance. "Have the dates been set? I may come watch." His tone was completely casual as the words came out, his eyes still closed and face turned up towards the sunlight. Someone kinder would have asked if she minded if they came to see her but Zaire wasn't one of those people. It was a public event after all. And if she didn't want him to go, he was certain she'd tell him. Considering she didn't say no to him watching her practice he didn't think that was the case. Conversation turned back to summer plans and she asked him if he wanted to go on the trip, commenting that it sounded boring. He gave a shrug before falling back and laying next to her, placing his arms behind his head for cushion. "Yes and no. It should be interesting. Considering we're going out in the wilderness I'm sure to see some magical creatures at least which is always fun," he smiled at the thought. That was what he was looking forward to the most, the chance at seeing a rare magical creature. "Plus, I don't have any other choice. My parents worry about what I can get up to so they give me things to do over the summer." In more ways than one. They constantly worried about him screwing up their agreement with the Washingtons, not that they thought he was a bad child but they called it 'him being at that age'. "They're pretty typical. Polite when we're over. They get along with my family pretty okay. It doesn't really matter what I think of them though," he replied to her question. As long as both sides agreed that they were suitable and would produce suitable children, they were fine with it. He didn't have to like them, he just had to marry into them.

“The Classical Ballet & Theatre Dance Academy in Essex.” Crayla responded. It briefly crossed her mind to not tell him. She wasn’t sure if she wanted him to come, she wasn’t sure if she wanted him to see her dance the roll of the Fairy Godmother in a frilly tutu with her students dancing as mice and birds in the same performance. It wasn’t going to be a great show. It was going to be sub par at best. However, at least most of the ballet instructors at the academy, including herself, who were dancing the major parts were good and knew what they were doing. She knew, however, that he would find out on his own if she didn’t tell him. And, her not telling him and obviously not wanting him to come might make him even more inclined to show up in the front row. “Mid July.” she nodded.
He then continued to explain his summer plans and that he really didn’t have a choice since his parents worried about what he would get up to over the summer if they didn’t keep an eye on him and give him things to do. “So are you just not allowed to see anyone other than Theodosia then?” Cray knew, of course, that they were to get married, however, she figured that they would be allowed to do what they wanted until then. Her father could care less what she did, and that was both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because she never felt the need to answer any of his question and didn’t have anyone looking over her shoulder at her actions, and a curse because it meant that she couldn’t identify with those whose parents were controlling and cared about their children’s well-being and social standing. “I know.” she nodded quietly, biting her lip when he admitted that it didn’t really matter what he thought of them. She did know. She knew neither of them had any say in their partnership, even if they wanted to.

She mentioned the name of the place and a vague period of time when the performance was to take place, willing him to nod his head in understanding. He’d never heard of the place but he hadn’t really expected to. He’d have to take a trip of to Essex though to see the performance so he might have to make himself more knowledgeable of the venue. Granted that was cutting it a bit close to his mother’s planned trip, he’d be able to forego preparations for one day to watch her dance. Her parents wouldn’t know what he was doing but he knew better than to underestimate their perception abilities. "I’ll be there then," he responded. He wondered then if she thought he had some sort of ulterior motives for going and found himself amused at the thought. He didn’t have any reason to. He really did just want to see how good she was, if she was good at all. Her question had him smirking to himself. "They’ve invested a lot into this betrothal and they don’t want to see it ruined by anything or anyone, including us and our childish hormones or misconceptions of love," he laughed, mostly humorlessly. He wondered how childish they would think him for falling in love with Theodosia. If that was what he was feeling. "Not necessarily though. Why, were you trying to come see me?" There was a note of teasing and flirtation in his voice even though he was seriously considering how his parents would act if they met Crayla. She was a half-blood but she was also cute. He wondered how quickly they would jump to thinking that he was more than friends with her and warn him away from anything more than friendship. It made him tense up in annoyance.

He would be there, he told her. She gave a small, light sigh. Fine. She couldn’t stop him. And there were certainly worse people that could show up to one of her performances. Daniel, the annoying American could show up, and that was the very last thing she wanted. Him being anywhere near here was the very last thing that she wanted. Zaire was a fine person to have around, and an especially find person to have made a friend of. She was proud of herself for knowing him, knowing him and Theodosia was a step in the right direction for her. He explained more about his situation and the importance that his parents had put on the whole thing. She understood it. She nodded along to show her understanding. He asked if she wanted to come and see him and she smirked and brushed her hair back out of her face. “Maybe I do.” she admitted, a glitter of teasing in her eyes as she looked at her companion. He was attractive, and she had noticed that for years now. “Are you too good to sneak out to see a friend?” she suggested, biting her lip through a smirk.

She gave a small sigh when assured her of his presence and he didn't know if he should be annoyed by it or amused. He felt both either way. What did she think he would do, embarrass her? Did she actually not want him there? Now that she'd told him where it was, she didn't have much of an option. He would be there. And he hoped the performance would be a good one. Just as expected, she latched onto his flirting and threw a little bit of it back at him. Sneaking out wasn't a foreign concept for him but he'd never had to sneak out to see Theodosia. Seeing Crayla? That would be a bit more complicated. It wasn't as though he wanted to hide her from his parents. It also wasn't as if his parents actually cared who his friends were as long as they didn't get in the way of his schooling and they were of proper blood status. Complications. "Never. Just tell me when." he smirked in reply just as he stood up and wiped away any stray pieces of grass. He had Flying pretty soon and if he left now he'd only miss the first 10 minutes. Hopefully that wouldn't spell a detention but professors could be fickle with him. "I'll head out first. We'll talk later, I'm sure," he smirked once again and gave a short wave before he headed off towards the pitch. The summer was sure to be more interesting with that.

He responded well to her offer to sneak out and she smirked, not that she had really expected him not to, she wasn’t sure when she had ever seen Zaire adhere to every strict rule put in front of him. She knew that he was respectful of his family's wishes and his obligations regarding the world he was born into, but she also knew that he liked to have fun and was the type of person to make sure that he was spending his time doing something that he enjoyed with someone that he liked to be around. He stood up and decided that it was time to go, something she understood, but wasn’t too keen on. He seemed to be headed towards the pitch, likely for class. “Have fun.” Cray called after him with a teasing tone of voice, she didn’t get up though. She couldn’t think of anything worse right now than walking alone back to the castle. Instead, she just stayed there for a while. She wasn’t entirely sure how much longer, but eventually, when she felt like it, she got up and made her way back to the common room, where her things were still sat on the window seat.
