It was the first day of term and the Durmstrang students got on their boat and started working. It took quite a while, but after everything was said and done, they were there. They arrived at Hogwarts just like they planned and Brandon felt himself staring at the place where he lived for five years, where he grew into his magical abilities. His heart was thudding as he stared at the familiar grounds. He was home. Obviously, he would never say as much to his fellow Durmstrang students. If he did they would probably send him back home, assuming that he wouldn't really try if he was chosen as the Durmstrang champion in the Triwizard Tournament. Of course that was ridiculous, but he could understand where they'd be coming from. He would assume the same thing if he were in their places. So he kept his feelings of peace, relief, and joy to himself. He got off the boat and smiled as he walked around. There were throngs of Hogwarts students, surrounding the boat. A short distance away, Brandon could also see the carriage- for the Beauxbaton's students, he assumed- which was just as crowded. He found himself searching the crowds for a familiar face. He should recognize at least one person here, shouldn't he. When he saw one, he grinned and made his way over there, even though she wasn't looking straight at him. "Hey Rosie," he greeted her conversationally, almost as if he never left. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie had to admit, she was rather anxious to hear that Hogwarts was hosting the Tri-Wizard tournament and the reason behind her anxiety was simple: her mom. Her mom had told her the heartbreaking story of how she lost her first love to the tournament, how if it had never happened, Cedric Diggory wouldn't have died. Of course, if he had never died than it was unlikely that Rosie would have ever existed, it was unlikely that many would have ever existed. His death had changed the world and gave many people proof that The Dark Lord was back and jump started the war. And now the tournament was back, following in the wake of the attacks and kidnappings of the previous year, Rosie (maybe partly due to her slightly advanced divination skills) found herself a little concerned.
However, it was hard to be concerned with so much excitement in the air. All of Hogwarts had come out to witness the arrival of the two near staples to the grounds, a grand, blue carriage for the Beauxbatons students, and a massive ship for those from Durmstrang. She and her friends all stood around, but slowly, everyone had gone off on their own to get better looks and to meet new people. She wasn't expecting anyone to approach her, but when she heard the familiar but forgotten voice, she turned around. "Hey! I guess I should have expected you to be here!" she said with a smile overtaking her face. "It's really good to see you!" she insisted, throwing her arms around him, happy to see one of her very best friends again.

Rosie was smiling at him and Brandon was glad. To be totally honest, a part of him worried about coming back. He didn't know how his friends would feel about seeing him again, since he left last time without really any warning, and was gone for a year without any contact. Oops. That really wasn't the best plan, but what was done was done. She shrugged when she said she should have expected to see him here. "There was no guarantee I'd be able to come with them," he told her, mostly to let her know she couldn't have known. "I didn't know I was coming until a few days ago, so I don't blame you for not knowing." Then she was hugging him, saying that it was good to see him. Brandon hugged her back, laughing. "It's good to see you too, Rosie. How have you been this last year?" He watched her closely, looking for her reaction to his question. While he didn't really want to bring up all the terrible things that happened last year, he did worry about his friends and he wanted to know she was alright, despite being here for all of that. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie felt so happy to have her friend back again, it felt like no time had passed, but honestly, so much time had passed. So much had changed in just the one year, and she never really expected to see him again. But here he was, standing in front of her, returning her hug, looking exactly the same but a few inches taller and a lot more... grown up. He had really developed. She supposed she had also during the past year, but she didn't notice those things about herself. Everything that had changed about Brandon was standing right in front of her. "You look great." she admitted, not in a romantic way, just as an observation. "The North has been good to you?" she asked, curious about his life at this new school. The robes were definitely different. He asked how she had been over the past year and for a second all of the horrors of last year had been erased from her memory. "Good. Fine. Just boring class as usual, we all miss you though." she insisted. He was basically the only boy in their friend group and they definitely noticed when he was not longer there. "So... you're here to put your name in to compete then..." she realized. "How do you feel about that?" she didn't want to ask him if he was as terrified as she was, however, the idea of him competing scared her even more.

It was easy to tell that Rosie was happy to be talking to him and Brandon was glad. He was nervous that some of his friends would be mad at him for dropping off the face of the earth, but apparently Rosie was not one of them, which was a big relief to him. He smiled when she said that he looked great and then asked how the north was. "You look good too Rosie. I like your hair," he said with a smile, reaching forward and playing with a piece of it for a second before laughing and dropping it. He felt giddy, being back here. "Yeah, it's been fine. I mean, I missed Hogwarts a lot, but I learned a lot about myself there." Honestly coming in 6th year was not the best strategy for getting to know people. He made very few friends, which in part was good for Brandon because it meant he had more time for his music. He saw the flash of ... terror in her eyes for just a moment, then she was saying that it was fine, boring and that they missed him. "I missed you girls as well," he admitted easily. He nodded when she asked if he was here to put his name in the Goblet of Fire. "Yeah, I'm here for the tournament." He shrugged, "I mean, a part of me wants me to be champion, but really I just came here so I could be with you guys for my last year." He winked at her. "Don't tell anyone."

He said that he liked her hair and the touched a strand, something that she didn't really read into, but was happy to hear, she had continued to grow it out since he left. Rosie liked to keep her natural hair long but then change the length and style and color with magic using temporary charms and transfigurations, however, on this day she left it natural. She had considered doing something crazy to impress the new arrivals, but she didn't want to scare anyone away and she didn't have a good understanding of other cultures yet. "Thanks." she said with a smile. He went on to say that he was enjoying his new school at least a bit, and that he had learned about himself. "Oh yeah? Are you a completely new person now? Will I recognize you at all?" she asked, mostly just to tease her friend. She didn't really like the idea of him competing in the tournament, but she didn't and wouldn't say so. She wanted the best for her friend and if that was what he wanted then she would support him. He made the joke that he had actually come to spend his last year with his friends and she laughed. She knew he had gone away because he had moved in with his dad, but she wished that he hadn't transferred schools to do so, she had really missed her friend. And of course, she didn't know that there was likely another reason for his move. "I won't tell." she agreed. "But if you become the champion I'd be a little conflicted." she admitted. "So try to loose, alright?" she teased.

Being here with Rosie was great. It was almost like old times, just hanging around with her and Brandon felt comfortable and at home, more than he had for most of his time during the last year. Even being home was different, since he moved in with his father. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, it was just different. The same thing went for Durmstrang. The place didn't have the same sentimental value as Hogwarts did, but it wasn't a bad place either. Brandon nodded when Rosie thanked him for the compliment, but didn't say anything because really there was not much he could say to that. He laughed when she asked if he was a new person. "Yes, entirely new," he confirmed with a smirk. "I'm so new you shouldn't even be able to recognize ... me ... darn it, you already have." Brandon wasn't normally such a big tease, but something about being back at Hogwarts with his close friend was bringing out the jokester in him and he hoped that Rosie didn't mind. He didn't want to upset her. He laughed when she said that she'd be conflicted if he was chosen as the Durmstrang Champion. Honestly, he probably would as well. As cool as it would be to be the champion, a part of him definitely wanted Hogwarts to win the Tournament. Not that he would ever admit that to anyone ... especially any of his classmates. "What? You'd choose someone else over me? What if you hardly know the person who gets chosen?" Brandon demanded, pretending to be slightly miffed. "Come on, Rosie, you've known me for years. I'm not saying I'm going to be chosen ... but wouldn't you root for me?" he was curious to hear her answer to that question. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie rolled her eyes playfully when he teased her about being a completely different person. She knew of course that he wouldn't morph into this new person, but he did look a little differently, and she wouldn't be surprised if his personality had changed a bit with the new environment and the new people that he was around. "I think you underestimated my extreme skill in facial recognition." she teased back, not caring that her comment didn't really make sense. She knew that he would realize she was just teasing back. he asked if she would really choose someone else to cheer for over him if he won and she shrugged, "See, this is why I'm conflicted." she admitted with a smile, biting her lip a little. "I guess if you get in and you want me to cheer for you then you'll just really have to impress me." she teased him playfully. of course she would root for him if he was the Durmstrang champion. She did however find it a little interesting that Durmstrang asked him to come and compete for them even though he had been with Hogwarts long before he transferred. Wouldn't they consider it a conflict of interest? Either way, she was glad to see him.

Brandon couldn't help but laugh when Rosie started mentioning her amazing facial recognition skills, "I guess I did underestimate you," he responded easily, continuing the joke. She was so much fun to be with. He also had a feeling that even if he had changed significantly at Durmstrang, she would've been able to recognize him. Rosie was good at finding her friends. Then he laughed harder when she started explaining her struggle. "Alright, then here's the deal," he said, leaning in so it seemed like he was speaking conspiratorially. "How about you cheer for me the whole time, so long as I get chosen, but you can just do it in your mind. Out loud, you can cheer for the Hogwarts Champion, but apart from that we'll both know who you're really cheering for," he gave her a wink. "And then when I get out of the task, you can go ahead and tell me how worried you were about me during it." The whole situation was hypothetical, but he couldn't help it. He was having fun teasing her and the best part was that Rosie knew him well enough to know that he was messing around. rose harriet granger-weasley

She was glad he went along with her bit, she had expected him too, but she wasn't sure if maybe his personality had changed since he began this new school, maybe they were stricter there and didn't allow so much joking and having-fun as they would at Hogwarts. She was very interested to learn about the other schools and see how they all interacted. He went on to lay out the plan, that she would cheer for him in her heard while cheering for the Hogwarts champion openly. Rosie, who wasn't a big fan of the tournament in the first place, really didn't want Brandon to get chosen, but she wouldn't say that. "Yeah that could work, but maybe I can just cheer for both of you? Or all three so that Beauxbatons doesn't feel left out." she suggested. "But you'd have to win first and we don't even find out who the champions are until Halloween." she shrugged.

Rosie was such a good sport. Brandon appreciated the fact that she was letting him joke around about all of this. In all reality, he didn't really want to be the Champion for Durmstrang. It would be weird, but when they offered him the chance to submit his name and come to Hogwarts ... he couldn't resist. He wanted to see his friends again and the castle and it just sounded perfect. Being the champion for Durmstrang wasn't really something that Brandon could see himself becoming, but apparently the leaders of his school thought he was a good candidate so he trusted their judgment. A part of him was still surprised that they let him come, since he was new to the school, but they had, so that was that. HE laughed when Rosie started saying that maybe she should just cheer for everyone. He shook his head emphatically, "No, then you'll have everyone mad at you for not choosing a side," he teased. "Just secretly choose me and you'll be good." Brandon winked and then shrugged at her last comment. "Well, I am pretty good at winning things ... but to be honest I'm not entirely sure I want to be champion. Don't tell anyone," Sometime during that conversation he leaned closer to her so he could tell her his secret without anyone else overhearing. He was sure she was about to ask some questions and decided he was ready for that. rose harriet granger-weasley

She was a little relieved when he admitted that he didn't really want to be the champion. It gave her instant relief. Her mom had filled her with the stories of how her boyfriend, Cedric Diggory had been killed in this tournament and Rosie had been really worried ever sense that one of her friends would get chosen and get injured. Of course, just because he didn't want to be the champion didn't mean he wouldn't be. He was still going to submit his name so him being chosen was out of his hands. She was sure at least one of her friends in their group would also submit their names, but out of all the students in each school, every student had a chance she just hoped the odds were in another students favor.
"Okay, I'll secretly choose you." she admitted. Of course she had a lot of feelings about him admitting that he didn't want to be the champion, "So you really did just come to be at Hogwarts then?" she asked with a smirk. "Well, since you're risking your life to be home with us, I'll try to make it worth your while." she teased, though she had no idea how true that statement would become. "You're really willing to risk your life in this crazy tournament?" she asked.

Brandon couldn't help but laugh when Rosie finally agreed that she would secretly cheer for him. That was good enough for him! He had one potential fan, if he was chosen as Champion, which he didn't expect. There were quite a few others from his school that he just thought were more qualified to be the champions. He came because of what he told Rosie, to spend his last year at the school he loved with his best friends. "Good," he said to Rosie with a firm nod. She questioned if he really just came to be at Hogwarts, smirking at him as she asked it. He shrugged, "Yeah, just don't tell anyone. They have no idea how much I love this place." Actually maybe that was why they invited him to come, so he could help friendships form between students from different schools and such. If that was the plan he'd probably fail. He grinned at her and then shrugged again. She really seemed nervous about this tournament. "I mean, I don't want to risk my life, but I do want to be here ... so I guess?" That probably wasn't a good answer, but it was the truth. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie didn't want to get too down and depressed about the tournament, she was really against it, however, she knew that since Quidditch was being canceled for the year and replaced with the tournament, she would be the one that would most likely have to cover all of the tasks. Rosie mostly ran the sports section of the Hogwarts student newspaper and wanted to continue writing about sports after Hogwarts as well. Her parents were both huge sports fan, so it was no surprise that Rosie became one too. However, she didn't like playing sports like her mum, she preferred watching like her dad. And honestly, she preferred muggle sports, she was a huge fan of American Football much like her very Irish father was. But the main reason she didn't like the tournament was because of the stories that her mother told her, about Cedric Diggory: the boy who died when Hogwarts hosted the tournament while Cho Chang was still a student. She didn't want anyone else to die at Hogwarts, especially after the deaths last year. "Just promise me you'll be careful if you get in. Oh, and if you do get champion, you have to promise me an exclusive interview right away." she teased.

Rosie was teasing him, but Brandon could tell that she was nervous for him, just because of the idea that he might get made champion. That was not really something that he expected, but Brandon could definitely respect it. She cared for him and he cared for her, like they always had as best friends. Still, Brandon found himself touched by her concern. He gave her an easy smile and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. It looked like most people were heading to the Entrance Hall, so he started steering her that direction. "I promise I'll be careful if I get chosen." He laughed at her second request. "And if that does happen, you'll be the first person I talk to about anything. You've got your interview," he couldn't help but chuckle again. "I'm starving, you mind if we go in to eat?" He'd already started walking that direction, but he wanted to be sure she wouldn't mind. He didn't expect her to, though. Rosie was pretty easy-going. rose harriet granger-weasley
