She asked what she would do it she wanted neither of them to row. "Oh, like this." he said, taking the oars and pulling them up into the boat so they were sat across the benches but still attached to the sides of the boat for easy access when they were ready to row again. They were close enough to the center of the lake and far enough from the boat shed to not have to worry about being in anyone's way if someone else wanted to take a boat out. "And then we just...float." he said hearing the sound of her laugh next to him. He began to feel overwhelmed in the moment. She was sitting next to him as they floated on the lake, her hair shining, her eyes sparkling, everything about her made him smile. "Kinsey..." he said her name, not really sure what possessed him to say it, but loving the way it felt to say. And as if he was suddenly replaced by someone a lot braver than himself, he reached his hand up and set it on her cheek, looking at her sparkling eyes. He moved towards her on the bench with every intention to kiss her, forgetting momentarily that they were in a boat and his sudden motion reset the balance of the wooden boat, causing it to tip over.

Riley showed her what to do, moving the oars so they were inside the boat. That made sense. They couldn't float away if they were inside the boat. Despite her being nervous about tipping the boat, it would be far worse to get stuck in the middle of the lake with them ... wait. She was a witch. With a wand. If they floated away, she could summon them. Riley talked about them just floating, which was when Kinsey really noticed how close he was. She found herself suddenly staring into his eyes. He muttered her name and something about his intonation drew her in. Kinsey found herself leaning closer to him, glancing at his lips for a moment before he touched her cheek. "Riley," she breathed back. She didn't know what was happening between them, but her heart was racing and she couldn't help but hope.
Then she gasped when she felt herself tipping and she reached to grab onto Riley as she fell into the water. It was cold, but not freezing, but she still felt like she was in shock. Maybe that was just the fact that she hadn't expected to fall into the water. Her head went under the water and she came up sputtering a little, shaking her head. Where was Riley? She wiped the water out of her eyes and then started to look around, trying not to seem frantic.

He tipped the boat, what an idiot. He was acting like a fool. He was so much smarter than this. As the cold water came over his body he held his breath, letting the water shock him back to reality. What was he doing? What was he thinking? She had to know that he was going to kiss her, didn't she? Then again, he barely knew what he was doing. Kissing her would ruin everything. She trusted him and the very last thing that he wanted to do was give her any reason to break that trust. But then again, he had to believe that she would know whether or not she could trust him despite him kissing her or now. She could read intentions, she had to know that he was trustworthy. He opened his eyes under the murky water, the whole thing happening both incredibly fast and in slow motion.
He saw her legs kicking in the water a few meters away from him. As soon as he saw her he slid back into his previous mindset, feeling drawn to her and feeling the overwhelming need to be with her. He wanted to finish what he started and he'd deal with the consequences later. He had never felt himself more compelled to do anything, and he, as a Ravenclaw, had a very strong work ethic. He swam to her, surfacing behind her. He turned her around, setting his had on her back until she realized that he was right there behind her. He shook his head a bit to get his hair out of his face. She seemed like she was okay, she could swim, she wasn't struggling at all. He wasn't exactly sure where the boat was, but he didn't really worry about it since he had his wand on him. Instead, he wrapped both of his arms around her waist, pulling her to him and kissing her firmly, not giving himself anytime to take back his decision.

Kinsey felt invigorated and confused and excited all at the same time. It was interesting, but when she was with Riley, she didn't spend most of her time focusing on his intentions anymore. His were generally the same. Comfort, protect, have fun. Where was the danger there? Answer: there was none. So when he touched her, meaning to kiss her, she didn't even notice. Then again, that might have had something to do with the fact that she was lost in his eyes and wondering what it would be like to kiss him as well.
She couldn't see Riley anywhere. He had to know how to swim, right? He teased her earlier about protecting her from the giant squid and didn't seemed too worried about tipping the boat over when they talked about it ... if he couldn't swim he would have said something, wouldn't he? She wasn't sure. What Kinsey did know was that she couldn't see him anywhere and she was starting to worry about that. Then she felt something on her back. She jerked until she felt intentions that were entirely his- though she was too flustered to pay attention to what they were- and realized he was turning her around a bit. Then, the next thing she knew he was pulling her close and kissing her. Kinsey froze for a moment, stunned and then she relaxed against him, doing her best to kiss him back though she didn't really know what she was doing. She didn't care. This was Riley and if he wanted to kiss her, to be her first kiss, there was no way Kinsey was going to fight that. Her hands somehow found his shoulders and gripped them tightly. She didn't want this to end.

Riley felt a whirlwind of emotions flood over him as his lips were pressed against her. She felt confused at the begging and he didn't blame her, he was going to end the kiss but then he felt her arms grip onto his shoulders and she relaxed into him which made him feel even better about his decision to kiss her. He continued to do so for what felt like forever, loving the sweeping joy and satisfaction that was taking over every inch of him. He began to feel something slimy brush his legs, and while he was sure that it wasn't anything dangerous because they had done nothing to provoke any of the lake creatures, he wasn't eager to interact with fish or even seaweed at the moment. He pulled away from her slowly, pressing his forehead against hers instead. "You okay?" he asked her, letting one hand go from her, he pulled out his wand and began to use it to summon the boat back to them, flipping it back over on it's way.

Riley! Kinsey's entire thought process was focused on the boy who was holding her close, kissing her like he never wanted to do anything else. She didn't want to either. She loved how it felt to be so close to him and kiss him. She still didn't know what she was doing, but in all honestly Kinsey didn't care. He wasn't stopping which meant she couldn't be doing it wrong, could she? After what felt like ages he was pulling away, placing his forehead on hers. She felt him release her with one hand as he asked if she was alright. Kinsey left her eyes closed- when did she close them in the first place?- and a grin covered her face. "More than okay. That was ..." she opened her eyes to look at him as she tried to think of the right word. Amazing? Marvelous? "perfect," Kinsey finally decided, still grinning at him. She couldn't seem to stop and honestly she didn't really want to. Riley just kissed her! Maybe he did actually care for her as more than just a friend ... but she'd think about that later. Right now she wanted to focus on him. She noticed the boat approaching and laughed. "How exactly am I supposed to get back into that thing?" She didn't have very good arm strength, so lifting herself in was out ... or did Riley have some sort of plan?

She insisted that it was perfect and he gave a small laugh, he had mostly been making sure that she was okay after the fall into the water, something he had skipped asking her in order to fill a selfish desire, or so he felt, but she had to have been into it, otherwise she wouldn't have said that it was perfect. The boat got back to them and he grabbed onto it. She asked how she was supposed to get back into the boat and he let a deep breath out loudly, thinking. This had honestly never happened to him before, he had never tipped a boat, but he had never been so thoughtless on a boat, causing it to tip either. "Okay, um, hold onto the sides of the boat and I'll lift you up." he said, nodding and very reluctantly letting go of her the rest of the way, starting to feel maybe a little awkward about it now, sure that his face was pretty red. He helped her into the boat and then, using a fair amount of skill and a hidden psychical strength that he wasn't really aware that he had, he was able to lift himself into the boat, his whole body dripping water and his shirt now sticking to his skin under the weight of the water. "Well that was fun, wasn't it?" he asked, shaking out his hair again and brushing through it with his fingers though he knew it was just going to stay messy until he was able to dry off. "You okay?" he asked again.

He didn't say anything when she answered his question and Kinsey wasn't sure if that meant he agreed or disagreed or even whether it meant anything at all. She had no idea how she was supposed to respond to this situation, but at the moment she didn't really care. Riley kissed her and she couldn't wipe the smile off her face. The boat pulled up next to them and Riley seemed to be trying to think of a way for them to get back on it. Kinsey waited patiently, not wanting to break his concentration or focus or whatever. Also ... she might have been enjoying the chance to watch him while he was distracted. He told her to hold onto the boat and that he'd help her and Kinsey nodded, still smiling of course, even though he was letting her go. It didn't take him long to get her in and then she watched him pull himself in. His face was a little red, but she assumed that was from exertion. She watched, perhaps a bit more than she should have, as he started shaking his hair and brushing through it. "It was a lot more fun than I ever expected tipping out of a boat to be," she agreed easily. "I guess I didn't have any reason to be worried." She laughed at herself for ever being worried about that. Then he asked if she was okay again. "I'm fine," she insisted, carefully moving so she was sitting beside him again. Despite the fact that their first time tipping out of the boat was marvelous, she didn't think he'd kiss her every time. She touched his arm gently, looking at him curiously. "Are you?" He was being a lot more quiet and serious than she expected, but Kinsey was trying not to read into that.

Once they were both back in the boat safely and it was clear that everything was alright, Riley began to think a little more clearly. He was beginning to worry himself, to overthink. For someone who studied people and the way that the human brain worked, Riley wasn't immune to human nature, urges, or desires. However, that meant he wasn't immune to over thinking and worrying himself over nothing either. "Yeah, it was." he agreed while ever-so-charmingly clearing his ears of any lingering water. "I wouldn't have let anything happen to you, you know that." he promised again even though the situation had already passed. She insisted that she was fine before she moved to sit next to him again. A part of him worried that it was a bad idea to be so close to her again, that he might kiss her again, not that he would tip the boat this time since he was being extra-cautious of that, but he didn't want to impose himself and his urges upon her. Though, she didn't pull away last time. He found himself growing very confused. She was his best friend, she was so important to him and there he found himself falling in love with the girl with the sparkling eyes. What?! Oh god. Riley felt an internal conflict come on, but he did his best to suppress it, feeling happiness take over him anyway as she touched his arm. "Yeah. I'm great." he insisted, forgetting his conflict and worry, why was he worrying anyway? He had everything he wanted right here in this boat, and he felt perfectly content. He reached his hand up and set it back on her cheek like he had before they tipped, stroking her cheek gently with his thumb. "Could I... um... Could I try that again?" he asked, looking into her eyes.

Riley agreed that tipping out of the boat was fun ... or was he agreeing that kissing her was fun? Kinsey wasn't quite sure, but she was still feeling too giddy about the whole situation to really start thinking through it at all. She nodded when he said that he wouldn't have let anything happen to her. "I know," she said, trying to reassure him, "but sometimes I worry about things even when I know it's silly." That was something everyone did, wasn't it? Or was it just her? He seemed to tense up a little when she moved to sit beside him, not that Kinsey would dream of commenting about that to him. Was he alright? However, he smiled when she touched him, saying that he was doing great and this time Kinsey believed him. He seemed a lot more relaxed now, though she had no idea what made the difference. "Okay, I just wanted to make sure," she commented, mostly just talking so that it wouldn't be silent in the boat. Not that she didn't like silence, she just ... she didn't know why she wanted to fill it so much. She tried to think of something else to say, but nothing came to her.
She was watching Riley, almost absently, when he reached up and cupped her cheek again, running his thumb across her skin. Kinsey closed her eyes and smiled, leaning into his hand a little bit. She loved how it felt for him to be touching her face like that. It was new and endearing and made her want to be closer to him. When he spoke again, she opened her eyes, meeting his asked he asked to try again. Was he talking about kissing. Her smile widened once more and she nodded just the tiniest bit, not enough to make his hand fall, or make him feel like he needed to move it. "Absolutely," she answered instantly, hoping that he actually was talking about kissing her again and not something else.

"Don't worry." he assured her when she explained that sometimes she worried about silly things, and he honestly felt weird telling her not to worry when he was making himself crazy worrying about what would come of this major change in their relationship, but he didn't want her to worry. And he knew it wasn't that simple, the she couldn't just turn it off. "You know that I want you protect you, don't you?" he asked, half to make sure that she did, and half to see if she had been able to read that from him this whole time. Maybe that was why their relationship was so natural and so fluid from the beginning, there was nothing hidden between the two, except for the name of her bully, but he'd figure that out before too long, he was confident. She gave him permission to kiss her again and he didn't waste any time pressing their lips together again. Keeping his hand on her cheek, he set his other hand on her waist gently.

Kinsey smiled when Riley told her not to worry. She thought it was cute how he always wanted her to be happy and not stressed out about things. Even if it wasn't possible, he was always there, trying to help her as much as he could and she appreciated that, more than he could know. He asked if she knew he wanted to protect her and Kinsey quirked her head to the side, not understanding his question at first. Then she realized. He was talking about her gift. She smiled and nodded. "You've always wanted to protect me. Ever since you found me on that bench by the pond." She didn't think he would be weirded out by that, since he brought it up in the first place. "That's one reason I trusted you so quickly," Kinsey admitted. He was the only person who'd given off that strong of a vibe for her, that wasn't family of course. Then he was kissing her again and Kinsey felt like she needed to find some way to show him how she felt, but she didn't know how. At least, not without moving. She was nervous that if she moved, she'd make the boat tip. She kissed him back, her hands moving to hold onto his arms. In between kisses, she whispered breathlessly, "Riley." She was surprised at the tone of longing and desire. How long had that been there!

She began to say his name in-between kisses and he wondered if everything was okay. Maybe she was saying it to ask him to stop. He didn't want to stop, and he wasn't getting a vibe from her that she wanted him to stop either, but he was starting to feel like maybe he was pushing himself onto her. When he did pull himself away from her, she just looked at her, catching his breath and he whispered, "I didn't plan this." wanting to make sure that she knew that he really hadn't planned to do this. She didn't want him to think that he was only interested in kissing her this whole time, because she meant so much to him. So much more to him than just some girl that he wanted to kiss. She really was his best friend and he didn't want to scare her. "But I like it..." he admitted softly.

Kinsey was starting to feel like this was a dream somehow. It was hard to believe that Riley was actually kissing her like this, that he wanted to kiss her at all even. She was trying to come up with a way to make sure this was real, but she also didn't want to stop. Eventually, he pulled away, looking at her and whispering that he didn't plan this. "Of course you didn't," she answered with a smile, her voice just as breathless as his. "We weren't even planning on coming boating until a short while ago." Kinsey hoped she said the right thing because Riley seemed nervous and she didn't want him to feel that way around her. Then he said that he liked it and a smile touched her lips as she nodded. "I do too, a lot." she moved to take his hand, squeezing it in an attempt to show that she meant what she was saying.

"We can stop if you want." he added. "I can take you back to the common room." he was very much enjoying his time with her, however, he wanted to make sure that she was okay, she was still his top priority. She admitted that she believed that he hadn't planned this and he was revealed to know that she wasn't mad at him or resentful of him. He didn't want to take advantage of her. "Whatever you want, just tell me what you want and I'll make it happen." he insisted, his hand fall from her face to her thigh. "You still want to have dinner with me?" he asked, hoping that the answer was yes. He wanted time to think and process what had just happened, however, he also didn't want to leave her alone, he didn't want her to freak out or be bombarded by anyone who might have seen them, or by any of her siblings that he had ran into recently. But most importantly, he didn't want their relationship to change. He was so worried that he had just ruined their whole friendship.
