He said he would brainstorm wjay they could invent and she nodded, "I shall also. Normally I just sew," she explained. She was getting pretty good at handles sewing, using magic to control the needles. He agreed that cookon desserts was always fun and she nodded happily. Then he revealed that he too was bad at pranks. "Guess those are off the table," she said in a half serious tone.
At his guess about the food being magical, Lydias jaw dropped, her eyes widened, and she leaned forward, "maybe it is! That would be amazing, no, no, it wouldn't work. If they enchanted it in that way it would have to be some kind of illusion and then would have no nutritional value, right? No, it's totally not possible... Is it?" Her speech was quick and excited. If that really was a possibility, it would be groundbreaking. No doubt some spell inventor I tried to think of it by now though.

Edmund laughed when she said she normally sewed. "Well, no offense, but I don't really think I'm the sewing type," Edmund informed Lydia, assuming she would know that but saying it all the same type. "But I could ... color while you sew." Wait, what? Color? Edmund didn't even color when he was at home! That was like a juvenile, childish thing that he hadn't done since he was a kid. "Uh, not really," he stammered, shaking his head. "I'll have to come up with something else to do if you wanna sew during some of our cool meetings." He was trying to think of something, but had his mouth firmly closed now. He wasn't going to actually say them out loud anymore. He had no intention of embarrassing himself again.
Really, Ed was just kidding about magical food, but Lydia seemed to eat it all up, pun intended. She talked her way through his possible reasoning, almost like she actually thought it was possible. Then again, lots of things were possible now that Edmund never would have considered when he was growing up. He shrugged, "I don't know. I guess we could ask the house elves if we really wanted. Are they duty-bound to answer our questions, or just ones made by the headmistress?" He asked curiously. He didn't really understand how house-elves worked, to be totally honest.

Edmund said he wasn't the sewing type and Lydia laughed. "What kind of stuff do you color?" she asked, assuming he had brought it up because he was good at it, like she was with sewing. That would have made sense. Then he agreed that pranks were off the table and said he had to come up with something else to do during the cool meetings and she laughed. "You could read something out loud! We could read a cool book together," she spoke quickly. "Something romantic and adventurous and exciting! Any suggestions?" she asked, her eyes wide. It really was a good idea!
Ed said that they could ask the house elves about the food, wondering if they were bound to answer them or just the Headmistress. "I think in a way they are supposed to answer us, but Minister Granger has done a lot of work with their rights so I don't know if they're magically bound to serve us anymore... back in the day I think they had to answer to all Professors no matter what," she explained. "As for students, I think it's more of a choice."

Edmund laughed in return when Lydia asked what he colored. "I don't know. Pages from books my mother bought me when I was younger. I used to be very good at coloring. I haven't done it in a while though," he admitted. He didn't think that coloring was a skill one could lose, but it was an interesting thought. He nodded at her idea about reading a book. "That could be fun," he agreed, then started tapping his chin when she asked for suggestions. "Have you heard of The Count of Monte Cristo?" Edmund asked curiously. That could be an interesting one, or so he'd heard. His mother liked it.
He nodded as Lydia explained a little more about the house elves. He was glad that she knew something about them because he didn't really know much. "That makes sense. I guess we'll just need to stay in their good graces so we can convince them to lavish us with food when we get to have our parties here," he commented in a teasing tone.

Edmund explained what he colored and Lydia giggled. "Oh, I'm sure you're still great at it! You should practice. We will definitely add that to the list of things to do," she declared firmly. Then he named a book and she cocked her head to the side. "I'm afraid not. What is it? It sounds fancy," she guessed with excitement. She liked Counts, especially the ones that threw lavish parties and glided about them like a ghost. She wanted to be that person. The woman throwing the parties and watching her guests from a balcony above.
Edmund said that they would just have to be extra nice to the house elves in order to receive lavish treats and whatnot and Lydia grinned, nodding. "I think I can do that! They are helping us out, after all," Lydia was sure house elves preferred to help wizards more than not, and that the famous elf in the books 'Dobby' was the odd man out, no matter how much the current Minister supported him.

Edmund laughed, not be able to help feeling surprised a little when Lydia agreed that they should color. He shook his head a little, "As long as you don't think it's too boring. I can always find a different time to practice ..." He actually wouldn't practice another time, but he didn't want the girl to feel pressured into coloring with him. Wow, that sounded childish. He smiled when she asked about the Count of Monte Cristo. "It's about a guy who loses everything and how he tries to get it all back," he answered vaguely. Yeah, that was about as basic as the story could get, but he didn't want to ruin the story for her. If they decided to read it, after all.
He nodded, "Then I think we'll be good! So ... when are we going to test this out again? See if we can find the common room empty again?" A part of Edmund was curious if this girl actually meant she wanted to do this or if she was just saying things. He couldn't tell and didn't know her well enough to be able to figure it out on his own.

Edmund said he could always find a different time to practice and she shook her head, "no! That's what this is for, Windsor. Don't chicken out," she teased, giggling. Then he explained what the book was about and she grinned, "I guess that works. As long as you think it's exciting. Bring it," she said firmly.
In terms of the elves, he said they were good and she nodded, still giggling. She heard rustling and the shuffling of feet coming from the dorms, meaning that people were starting to wake up. "Let's do... tomorrow! May as well," she said excitedly. Lyd wasn't one to postpone great things.

He rolled his eyes when she teased him and told him not to chicken out. "Alright, fine," he said in response. He didn't really know if there was anything else he could say about it. Then she told him to bring the book, as long as he thought it was exciting. "I do think it's exciting. You'll see," he told her confidently. Then she suggested that they start tomorrow. Ed's eyes widened a little, but he wasn't going to argue. Might as well do it tomorrow. Wasn't like it would be any better or worse than any other day, after all. "I'll meet you here tomorrow morning then. Be prepared for an awesome book," he teased. Then he sighed, "Guess I'd better get going. See you," he commented before leaving the common room. Hopefully their morning meetings would be fun ... though he couldn't imagine how they wouldn't be if she was as spunky at them as she seemed to be. --- the end --- @lydia
