It was April now and Adonia was thinking about her new friend Edmund and how she hadn't seen him much since the carnival. Just a little bit here and there, maybe some short conversations. She liked him, he was entertaining. There was something underneath that rough exterior that she had gotten a glimpse of but wanted to see much more. He had a good soul, but also had the potential to be far more... 'Not good' than other people she was pursuing. Well, other than Daniel. But she just had a feeling about this one...
So, she sought him out this rainy April afternoon. She had been a little preoccupied with the whole Brandon thing that she hadn't given Edmund as much attention as she should have. He was obviously someone she could get along with, and she would much rather be happy with a friend then confused with a Brandon.
She found him, by a window in the stairwell of the sixth floor. She smirked, lucky to have caught him in such a random place. She walked up behind him and leaned forward, her chin almost resting on his shoulder but not quite. "Watching the rain?"

It was a long day. Actually, the days seemed to be getting longer and longer to Edmund and he wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. Sure he liked school and he wasn't ready to go home for the summer, but he was starting to feel ... bored. Bored by school and by all the nothing that was going on. Without Quidditch life seemed boring. Sure he went to practices and he participated in that Quidditch Scrimmage thing with the mixed teams, but that wasn't the same.
So he spent lots of his time studying lately, which was boring and annoying. Especially when he would prefer to do something entertaining, though he didn't really know what. However, as he left one of his classes, Edmund noticed that it was raining outside. Letting his classmates leave without him, Ed moved to the sixth floor where he knew a window with a good view of the castle grounds was located.
He was entranced, looking out at the rain. Then something changed and he felt someone behind him, standing close. He tensed up, his head spinning around quickly when he heard a voice behind him. Adonia. He exhaled in annoyance and looked forward again. "Yes. You don't have to creep up on me, you know. We're friends, Adonia. It's not like I'm going to run away from you or something." Since they met at the carnival they'd had a few chats. Short ones where neither really said much, but Ed found himself enjoying her company. She was easy to talk to and seemed to actually be interested in him, which was something new for Ed.

He tensed up and exhaled at her and she had to bite down on her lip to keep from laughing. He answered yes and mentioned that they were friends and that she didn't have to sneak up on him. She giggled, "but Edmund that's why I snuck up on you. I sneak up on my friends," she explained. "I don't just sneak up on random strangers," she laughed. That wasn't entirely true though. It was fun to sneak up on anyone really. In general, though, she really did just sneak up on people she already knew. Edmund, however, wasn't the type to take it well, she noted.
She moved so she could settle beside him, turning her own face toward the window. "It's nice rain isn't it?" She asked him. "I prefer to be out in it rather than just watching from inside." She turned to look at him, "how are you? I missed that smiling face of yours," she teased.

Edmund exhaled heavily when Adonia said that sneaking up on people was a sign of friendship, but he was smiling. "Of course you don't. Where would the fun be in that?" he asked sarcastically, rolling his eyes as he moved a little so he could turn and look at her. "So if you haven't been sneaking up on people all day, what have you been doing?" He asked curiously.
He shrugged when she turned the conversation to the rain. "I like all rain," he said in agreement. Then she said she'd rather be out in the rain and he nodded, "Me too. I just ... got a little distracted watching it fall this time. I'll probably go out in a bit." She was asking how he was, saying she missed his smiling face and Ed looked at her skeptically. "Yeah, because I'm such a smiley person." The words were sarcastic, but he definitely didn't mean them angrily or anything. "I'm doing pretty well. Don't have much going on other than school and stuff, especially now that the tournament is over. What did you think about it overall, now that it's over?"

His sarcasm was strong today, which just made her smile more. He turned to look at her and asked what she had been doing all day, since she wasn't sneaking up on people. She shrugged, "mostly looking for you, to be honest. Just wanted to say hello," she answered softly. She didn't say that she had been avoiding her own ship for fear of seeing one of her classmates in particular, and also didn't add that she was sort of hoping Edmund Windsor would fill that spot in her and make her forget about it.
He said he liked all rain and she nodded, eyes on the falling rain too. Then he said he got distracted watching but would probably go outside. He looked at her with a funny skeptical face when she said she missed his 'smiling face' and she chuckled at his sarcasm again. He said he was doing well, that he didn't have much going on, and asked how she thought of the tournament. "I think it was quite fun! I liked seeing all the different magic at work. There is some amazing stuff," she said. "And you? What did you think about watching our classmates go to hell and back?" she chuckled.

Edmund wasn't sure if he really believed that Adonia spent most of her day looking for him ... in fact, he was almost positive that she was exaggerating, but he wasn't about to call her out on it. He didn't really need to know what she did today, after all. It was more just a polite question. "I feel honored," he teased lightly, glancing back out the window at the rainfall. He couldn't seem to help himself.
She laughed as their conversation proceeded, but Ed wasn't as annoyed. Talking with other people, he might feel more annoyed if they laughed. That was his own problem. Ed had a tendency to think that when people laughed around him they were laughing at him. Oops. The interesting thing was, he didn't feel that way with Adonia. She answered his question, saying that she thought it was fun and laughing as she asked what he thought. He rolled his eyes at her teasing question and then shrugged. "It was entertaining, which kind of seemed like the whole point. It was also a bit interesting, seeing how they reacted to everything." He couldn't stop the smirk from covering his face. "I was glad that self-confident Beauxbatons guy lost though," he admitted. Most people were, he figured, so that probably wouldn't be much of a surprise to her.

He said he felt honored, obviously messing with her, and she just giggled, not commenting verbally about that. Then, as they spoke of the tournament, he said that it was entertaining and interesting. He was glad Emile had lost, and Adonia laughed at that. "Awwwwe, I thought that he had style! You have a problem with self confidence?" she asked. Truly, Emile was an amazing spectacle as to how confidence could turn you into a real jerk, according to his behavior toward some people. Overall, though, Adonia was very into self confidence, if someone wore it well. It was nice. It was brave. It was sexy. There was something intoxicating about someone who knew who they were, and were okay with it, without being a jerk at the same time. Emile, sadly, didn't have all of the moving pieces in place. Some people did. Like Adonia. She did. Edmund could, if he tried, she was sure.

She laughed at his comments about the tournament, making her own points and Edmund nodded in understanding, though he definitely did not agree. He rolled his eyes when she said Emile had style. "No, it's not the self-confidence that bothers me. It's the conceit and belief that he was better than everyone else no matter what. Really, he just acts like the king of the world and that annoys me, I guess," he admitted. He didn't feel guilty about his opinions of the Beauxbatons boy, but he wasn't trying to make his disdain obvious either. "I don't know if I'm making any sense," he admitted.

Edmund was making sense, but it was also kind of fun to pester him about it. "Well, I suppose I can see what you mean. I think you would benefit from a good dose of 'King's syndrome," yes, the rumor mill had finally got to Adonia about who Edmund was and she was planning on teasing him about it for at least a FEW minutes.
She shrugged, casually looking out the window as if what she was saying was totally innocent and just a funny coincidence. "I mean, you have a kind of royal air about you," she laughed and looked at him again, "get it? Royal heir?"

Adonia said she understood and Edmund nodded, feeling slightly relieved about that. Then she mentioned King's syndrome being good for Ed and he grimaced. "What do you mean I'd benefit from it? And how did you find out?" he asked, the question more a moan than anything else. He'd done so well at keeping it to himself this time, but now she knew so who knew how things were going to change (since they almost always did)
He rolled his eyes when she continued the teasing. "Yeah yeah you're hilarious," he grumbled. He wasn't necessarily mad at her, he just never knew how to respond to people when they found out that he was royalty. Go along with it, tell them not to mention it? He didn't know.

He asked what she meant and then asked how she found out and she just laughed and laughed, barely able to sit up straight anymore. His grimace and groaning was just too adorable. He said she was hilarious, obviously sarcastic, and she laughed even more, bending over and clutching at her stomach. She held up a finger to signify she was almost done and then stopped, slowly, until she was able to breathe and sit up straight. "I just heard through the rumor mill, you know. I think it's cute," she giggled, "and you should be proud that it took me this long to find out. You're so secretive!"

She found his reaction hilarious and Edmund couldn't help but glare at her. He didn't like people knowing his secret, mostly because he found that most people treated him differently after knowing the truth. Obviously Adonia wasn't going to do that, but it didn't make things easier. He wasn't exactly sure why, but her knowing made him a little nervous. "Cute? Why would me being royalty be cute?" He asked, entirely confused. Or was she calling him cute for some other reason. He smirked when she said he was secretive and he should be proud it took her that long to find out. He shrugged a shoulder at her. "I'm pretty good at secrets," Ed admitted easily.

He asked why being royal would be cute and Adonia laughed. "Because it's just so you. It makes sense why you're so proud, even if you won't admit it. And why you're such a gentleman," she recalled him helping her from the horse when they first met. "And why you're so well put together. You just ooze substance and class, Edmund, even if the oozing is coming out through small holes," classic Adonia, always talking in metaphors.
He admitted that he was good at secrets and her eyes brightened. "Then come on, let's go find some secrets together in the rain," she hopped off and reached out for both his hands.

Edmund rolled his eyes again at her explanation. He knew he was doing that a lot, probably too much for one conversation, but he hated the fact that he was royalty. Then again, the points that she brought out about it weren't particularly bad. Being a gentleman, well put together, substance and class. Those were good things, right? "Well ... thanks. I think," Edmund answered, still trying to decide if she was complimenting him or not. She invited him to come and find secrets in the rain, holding out her hands. Ed quirked an eyebrow at her and then sighed, taking her hands and letting her lead him outside for another one of her shenanigans. At least he knew it would probably be fun. They ended up running outside the doors into the rain and Edmund found himself laughing, despite his more serious mood that day. Adonia was a good friend for him. She helped him relax. --- the end --- @adonia
