The Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament had just finished, and Imogen had to admit she was more than relieved. She hadn't been able to shake a feeling of dread since the task started, though she wondered if that was just a byproduct of the pogrebins being so close by. Imogen had been sitting in the front row of the stadium, so that explanation was plausible, if not entirely probable. Im thought it was probably more likely that she was nervous that something horrible would happen thanks to the way the 1994 Tournament had ended. Luckily, this Task was decidedly more tame than the others, even if there had been creatures wandering the misty fields. Perhaps it was an anticlimactic ending, but Imogen would rather have that than a dead student. The entire stadium was trying to exit at once, which meant that Imogen was going to remain firmly in her seat. She didn't particularly want to be crushed by a throng of excited students high on adrenaline. Imogen heard some chatter about how everyone thought the various Champions had performed, but it was hard for her to say anything definitive about who had won the task without knowing how many points each of the fairies had been worth. Imogen wasn't particularly fussed either way. The Triwizard Tournament hadn't been nearly exciting as how quiet the school had been, without any murders or kidnappings to speak of. She was surprised by how fast the school year had gone by, with graduation happening just the next month. Imogen twirled a strand of her hair around her finger, and then frowned at it. Her hair was still plain brunette, and she wasn't sure if she'd be able to change it anytime soon. The sadness had mostly dissipated, but Imogen still felt a gnawing emptiness in her stomach, reminding her of what Ophelia had lost - what she had lost. Imogen turned her face back to the crowd again, not wanting to get caught in a tidal wave of grief at the moment. She just wanted to be happy that this all was (mostly) over.

@imogen Mina clapped her hands in unison with the rest of the crowd as the Hogwarts girl seemingly won the third task of the tournament. At least she was pretty sure the Hogwarts girl had won. The thing was, Mina had been drinking since early that morning, and everything was kind of moving in slow motion now. They wouldn’t let her bring open containers onto school grounds, so she had resorted to transfiguring a bottle into a book, and then leaving a little spout to sip out of whenever she needed to keep her buzz going. In all the excitement though, she may have had a little more to drink than normal, and now she was completely blitzed. Going with the flow and following the crowd had never failed her before, so that was exactly what she was doing now, all with a huge grin on her face. This was fun! Clapping for someone she didn’t even know for a thing she really didn’t care about. Why had she come here again? That wasn’t all that important anymore. The real trick was finding her way home. Or having someone else take her. Either or. It was still too light out to find a nice fling, so maybe a responsible adult would do. There seemed to be a few around here from what she could tell.
But then everyone was standing up and leaving the stands, and Mina struggled to get up from her corner seat. Thankfully she had planned far enough ahead and managed to get a seat that had a railing next to it. Things could have gotten a little bit messy if she hadn’t done that. Taking her time, Mina made sure each step ended with her foot firmly planted on a solid, flat surface before her next foot went up into the air. This was why she liked apparition. As long as she had a clear picture in her head of home, she could get there once she was away from muggles. Not on Hogwarts grounds though, because Merlin forbid unsavory characters show up and talk to students. Just thinking about that made her laugh a little as she confirmed she was on a level surface again. By the time she made it down to the first row, the majority of the crowd had dispersed, and only a few lonely souls were left in the stands, Mina being one of them. One of the others? A lady sitting in the first row. Oh! She knew that one! “IMMIE!” Mina screeched, doing her best to run to her friend and not stumble down the remaining few steps in the stands. “Did you see who won? Because I think it was us. But I can’t remember,” she laughed, wobbling slightly as she stopped her body right next to where Imogen was. Sitting down hard, Mina reached her arms around her friend as much as she could from her awkward angle, still trying not to laugh at herself. “How are you?”

When Imogen heard her name being shouted, her first instinct was to flinch. Normally her name being screeched in such a way didn’t mean anything good for her. Imogen turned around to see the source of the noise, and almost laughed. She shouldn’t have been surprised that Mina was the cause of such a noise – honestly, the only other person who would use that nickname for her would be Ophelia, and Imogen was unsure if her friend was in a screechy mood as of late. It didn’t take Imogen long to realize the reason why Mina’s inhibitions were so low – it appeared the other woman was sloshed. Imogen was surprised that alcohol would have been allowed on the school grounds, since it was banned within the school, but Mina had always been resourceful. That was part of the reason she was put in Slytherin, Imogen thought. Her friend asked who won, and the Charms teacher gave the shopkeeper a wan smile. “They’re not going to announce the results of the task just yet.” Imogen informed Mina. “Since that would mean that we’d be able to determine the winner of the Tournament before it’s officially announced.” They were all about officiality and ceremony. Imogen was sure part of that was from the fact that the Hogwarts staff wanted to be sure to display that all three of the Champions had survived the Tournament despite the fact that people thought that there was going to be another attack. Imogen was certainly glad that the year had been relatively uneventful, but she was sure that she wasn’t the only uneasy one. Mina probably didn’t care, Imogen thought. It was hard to care when you were drunk. When her friend asked how she was, Imogen shrugged. “I’m ready for summer.” Then she could spend more time by herself and with her friends, without students to worry over constantly. That would be a welcome break.

@imogen Imogen’s voice of reason didn’t really make all that much sense to Mina, but she supposed that was just how all this went. “Well that’s stupid," she commented, trying to be difficult about the whole thing. “I didn’t come here to get hammered and watch them take ages to make the announcement.” Mina paused for a few seconds to think that sentence through again. “Though I suppose I did come here to drink so who knows?” Laughing, she spun around on the bench and laid down. The coolness of the metal was comforting when the world was spinning around. Why did the tournament people have to take forever to do this? She wanted to see if Hogwarts had won, that way she could stumble back into Hogsmeade and start drinking again. Victory celebrations and all that, right? “So when do they make that announcement again?” she asked rather impatiently as she tried lifting her head off of the bench but failed. Sitting up was not a great idea right now.
“That’s right! Summer is almost here!” Mina half-shouted, still staring up at the sky. Summer was great. Unfortunately she had to spend all of her time in the bookstore working, or else she would have been out at a beach or something equally as fun. But working made money and made her look like she had all of her shit together, and that was what Callisto and Imogen liked to see. “Summer is great,” she sighed. “What are your plans? Holing up in your place and chilling, or going out to the beaches to find some hotties with bodies?” Mina giggled. Beaches were so much fun! Hopefully she could tag along too.

Imogen snorted when Mina commented that the way the Third Task was organized, and the choice not to announce the winner, was stupid. Alcohol definitely reduced her filter, and that was saying something, since Mina didn’t have much of a filter in the first place. “You shouldn’t come to a school to get hammered anyways.” Imogen pointed out. She probably had some responsibility as a professor to report this infraction, but Mina wasn’t a violent drunk, so the professor was willing to let it slide… for now. “Tonight at the feast.” Imogen supplied when Mina asked when the announcement was made. “You’ll be gone by then.” She added. Members of the public weren’t allowed at the feast, as far as Imogen knew – just the press and students.
Imogen frowned when Mina asked what her plans for the summer were. Honestly, the professor was still so focused on getting her students through the exams and the school year finished – she didn’t have much time or energy to spend thinking about what exactly summer entailed. It was just the light at the end of the tunnel, the thing that she strove for when things were tough and she really wanted just to give up. “I’m definitely not going to the beach.” Imogen supplied. She didn’t much like bathing suits, or sun, or, as Mina put it ‘hotties with bodies’. “Are you and your siblings going to do anything?” Imogen questioned. She was sure that the Oliveira family would find something to get up to – the question was just whether or not it was planned. Maybe Mina was going to go abroad to visit Dakoda, wherever he was. Imogen had to stop that line of thinking before she got horribly mad, and instead just stared forward, at the now-empty screens that had once shown the going-ons of the arenas.

@imogen Mina snorted at the idea of not going to school and being hammered. It wasn’t the first time this had happened, though it was since she graduated. What Im didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her. She had to know what students got up to when they were bored, being a professor and all that fun stuff. Getting alcohol into the school wasn’t exactly difficult, and with the Hufflepuff-now Professor’s watchful eye graduated and gone, an older Mina definitely got away with a lot. How she graduated was even a mystery to her. At least she didn’t almost kill someone like Sarah had. That wouldn’t have held over well with the administration. That was also a one way ticket to strippership. She didn’t want to be a stripper. “Why not? I’m not hurting anyone am I?” Mina looked around, seeing if she had indeed caused damage of some sort. That usually didn’t happen unless she was with friends. Then bad things would happen. On her own she was basically a giggling ball of alcohol. Before she could ask if she could go to the feast to see the announcement, Imogen cut her off. Frowning at the answer, Mina crossed her arms across her chest. That was really the only place she could put them while lying on the bench. “You know I’d fit right in with the seventh years. I’ve got the looks still.”
She didn’t like the answer about the beaches either. Imogen wasn’t being fun today. Probably because she was in work mode, or whatever. “Fine, no beaches. Cal wouldn’t go either, and I probably can’t get the time off anyway,” she sighed, letting one of her arms slide off of her body as she fumbled through her jacket pocket to pull out her lighter and pack of cigarettes. Imogen would have to fight her to death to keep her from smoking right now. Trying to think about what they were doing as a family during the summer, Mina flicked at her lighter a few times, cigarette dangling out of her mouth. Taking the first drag at it, she let the cloud puff out of her mouth slowly. “I’d like to spend time with Dena since I haven’t really seen her since I got back,” Mina stated, getting serious for once in the last few minutes. “But she doesn’t seem to like my attention anymore soooo…” Shrugging, Mina pressed the cigarette against her lips again.

Imogen narrowed her eyes slightly at Mina when she asked why she shouldn’t be getting hammered at school. The former Slytherin had a point when she said that she wasn’t hurting anyone, but still. “It’s still against the rules, even if you’re not a student.” It wasn’t difficult to get someone who was the appropriate level of inebriated into a fight. And young wizards who weren’t totally in control of their powers drinking, and therefore losing control of their mental faculties? That sounded like a recipe for disaster. Imogen wasn’t that much of a stickler for the rules, especially since the concern about out-of-control powers wasn’t an issue for Mina, but it was her duty as a professor to at least pretend like she wasn’t a fan of Mina’s obvious intoxication. There was probably dozen more reasons why alcohol on Hogwarts grounds wasn’t a good idea, but Im didn’t have the energy to go through all of them. Mina said that she could blend in with the seventh years to go to the feast, and the Charms professor raised an eyebrow. Maybe if Mina was sober that would be a possibility, but absolutely none of the seventh years would be idiotic enough to risk expulsion this close to graduation, so they wouldn’t go out of their way to break school rules – especially one that couldn’t be “accidentally” broken.
Mina conceded that they wouldn’t have to go to any beaches, saying that Callisto had nixed the idea, too. That didn’t surprise Im in the slightest – the second-eldest Oliveira child was definitely the most logical of the five. She had a good head on her shoulders. “I’m sure you’ll get time off, just not the week before school.” The end of August was always busy for all the shops on Diagon Alley, but especially Flourish and Blotts, since that was where students went to get their books for the next school year. Mina said that she’d like to spend more time with her younger sister, and Imogen had to force herself to keep her face neutral despite the mention of a Gryffindor. She thought she was getting better about it, but old reflexes sometimes crept their way into her conversations. “Younger siblings are strange like that.” Imogen hadn’t ever been close with her sister, so she couldn’t say anything on the pain of being rejected, but she definitely understood being perplexed by relationships.

@imogen Mina stared at Imogen as she pointed out again that it was against the rules to be drinking while at school, even if she wasn’t a student. “Im, love, me and the ‘rules’,” Mina emphasized with air-quotes, “got divorced years ago. You know better than that.” She couldn’t think back to one point in time while at school where she actually followed the rules one-hundred percent of the way. There was always a reason to not do something the correct way, just to see what a professor or another student would do. Reactions to actions was what she wanted the most. Those years of totally antagonizing anyone in sight were virtually gone, except when it came to her friends and sisters. They weren’t let off the hook that easily. “You’re not saying anything about my youthful appearance, so I’ll take that as a compliment,” she decided for Imogen. There were still times where she sometimes got mistaken for an older student. Mostly that was by the really old geezers in Diagon Alley, who thought anyone under the age of sixty was still supposed to be in school.
“Did you know I get Saturdays off now?” Mina explained, completely ignoring Imogen’s comment about not having time off before school. “Now I can actually enjoy myself on the weekends. It’s been years since I could do that…” she sighed, taking another drag of her cigarette. Nodding her head excessively as Imogen said younger siblings were strange, Mina pulled the cigarette back out of her mouth and let all the smoke go in a billowing cloud. “Bunch of weirdoes. Sometimes they like you and want to be you, next thing they idolize your stripper of a sister,” she rolled her eyes. “What about yours? She hasn’t graduated yet has she?” There had never been much discussion about Im’s sister, at least Mina hadn’t thought there had been. Alcohol had a funny way of making her forget things sometimes. That was a her problem though, and it was fixed by drinking more so she could forget everything.

Imogen rolled her eyes when Mina said that she and the rules had gotten divorced years ago. Personally, Im wasn’t sure whether or not Mina and the rules had ever had a relationship to start with, but she had also missed most of Mina’s childhood, so maybe things were different before Mina learned how to be a rebel. “As a professor, I’ve developed an uncanny ability to believe that everyone cares about the rules.” She was conditioned to expect that everyone would be following the rules, since she could punish those who weren’t. Of course, Imogen had learned in her tenure as a Hogwarts student that it was fairly simple to keep the professors from knowing you were breaking the rules, if you were smart about it. Imogen didn’t have the time nor the energy to go looking for students who were making less blatant rule infractions. Mina commented about Imogen’s lack of response on the subject of her age, and the professor rolled her eyes. “Yes, Mina it was a compliment. You are the epitome of all things youthful, and you will remain looking seventeen forever.” Imogen doubted that last bit was true, since alcohol didn’t do great things for one’s body and Mina consumed a plethora of it, but at the very least she was amusing her drunk friend and keeping the younger girl from getting into trouble.
“I know now.” Imogen responded when Mina asked the question about Saturdays off. She supposed that was triggered by her own mentioning of having the entire summer off, and Imogen was slightly hopeful that would mean weekend trips with Mina… until the Slytherin said that she could actually enjoy herself on weekends, meaning that she could go out and drink all weekend. “I don’t have a stripper sister, so I don’t know that.” Imogen said matter-of-factly. The good thing about only having one sibling was that they were each other’s favorites by default, so none of that petty ‘I like so-and-so better’ stuff could go on. “She’s graduating in May.” Imogen responded when Mina asked about Julia. “I think we’ll both be glad when she’s gone.” That would make their relationship much less awkward, Imogen hoped. She probably wouldn’t see her sister often once Julia was gone, but considering they had never been close, Imogen wasn’t too disappointed by that.

@imogen Mina snorted at the thought of everyone caring about the rules. They weren’t all like dear Imogen or Callisto, unfortunately. Letting out a few laughter filled breaths, Mina finally got herself back under control enough so that she could respond. “The only time I cared about the rules happened to be when the rules were ready to kick me out.” Trying to be serious when she was drunk, was virtually impossible, and Mina let another awkward laugh. That had been such an awful point in her life. She felt like everyone was against her. The school didn’t want her, her family was pushing her to better, and her brain simply couldn’t keep up with it all. Not everyone was made for school. Sarah was shining example of that. Mina didn’t want to be Sarah though, so she sucked it up and followed the rules for the time being. “Good. I’d hate to look old like Cal. She gets so stressed out and angry about everything. She needs a chill pill, or a boyfriend or something,” Mina yawned, blinking a few times.
She found herself nodding her head as Imogen said that she didn’t have a stripper sister. That would totally be awkward if her younger sister was a stripper and still in school. Something like that would most certainly get the attention of all the boys. Frowning because she had never thought of doing that during her time at Hogwarts, Mina continued. “It’s kind of annoying. Because here I am, trying to get myself together in order to be a role model for once in my life, and Dena decides that she wants to be a werewolf, and glorify Sarah,” she shook her head a few times. “Did I say she wants to be a werewolf? I don’t think she even understands what that means.” Mina didn’t either, but both her and Adena had four family members that were, so they could grasp the basics of it. It was frustrating to watch her look up to Sarah, especially when she was trying so hard to be a responsible adult. Just because their oldest sister had a child, didn’t automatically make her the most mature.
“What’s her plan? We could always use another worker at the shop,” Mina offered, a grin growing on her face. That would mean Im would definitely be stopping by more often. Then she could bug the ever living hell out of her, and goof off during work. That may have contradicted her earlier thoughts on being responsible, but she was responsible enough for having a job and a dog, and she was also drunk. That automatically jacked her irrationality through the roof.

Imogen grimaced a little when Mina said that she only cared about the rules when the rules were interested in getting her expelled. She remembered that time, and it was not a very pleasant one, wondering whether or not Mina would be able to stay at Hogwarts. Mina laughed awkwardly, and Imogen’s grimace reappeared for a moment, until they moved onto the subject of Mina’s youth and Callisto’s lack thereof. “Contrary to popular belief, getting a boyfriend doesn’t solve anyone’s problems.” Imogen informed Mina. She had seen too many teenagers make that mistake – thinking that being romantically attached to someone was somehow going to make their life worth living. Those were the same teenagers that came to class a few weeks later with tear-stained cheeks because their raison d’être was no longer interested in them. She could understand Mina wanting Cal to get a boyfriend so that the Ravenclaw wouldn’t bother Mina as much, though.
Mina continued her tirade against her stripper sister, Sarah, and Imogen nodded along placatingly. She hadn’t seen the oldest Oliveira sister since Sarah had been expelled from Hogwarts, which was strange – she seemed all but absent from her siblings’ lives until recently, and Imogen wondered whether it was the stripper-ness that Mina resented, or if it was the fact that Sarah could waltz right in and be the favorite again without any effort. Imogen didn’t know, but Mina talking made one thing more evident – the younger girl felt snubbed by her sister. Incurring Mina’s wrath was not something that Imogen did regularly, so she wasn’t sure how that was going to go for Adena, but she did know the girl was a Gryffindor, and Gryffindors weren’t known for making the best decisions. “She wants to be a werewolf?” Imogen sputtered. That seemed like a bad goal, especially considering that the Oliveira family weren’t exactly on good terms with the most famous werewolf in Britain, and it was likely that anyone who would turn Adena wouldn’t do it gently. “Yes, you said.” Imogen nodded, for once entirely agreeing with Mina on something. Wanting to become a werewolf was insanity in the highest order.
The conversation shifted subtly from Mina’s sister to Imogen’s, and the Charms professor didn’t have much to say. “We don’t talk about that.” Imogen said with a shrug. Her relationship with her sister was far from close, and Imogen didn’t really do the whole ‘talk about the future’ thing with anyone. All she knew was that her sister wasn’t taking Charms, which excluded some careers, but honestly not that many. Mina said that Flourish and Blotts could use another worker, and Imogen shrugged. “I don’t think Julia would want to work in a shop all day.” That was just Imogen’s own opinion, though, and Merlin knew that she had been wrong about her sister before.

@imogen Mina snorted again as Im said that having a boyfriend wouldn’t solve problems. It definitely would with Callisto. She knew that for a fact. Because that meant someone else would get the full brunt of unloaded stress. Right now it was just her and the dog, and she was starting to get tired of Cal always letting it out on her. All she cared about was going to work, making money, playing with her dog, and drinking. Mina liked to think she led a simple life, and Callisto was only ever there to start in on her own problems, most of which had to do with that simple life and patients at work. There was a certain point where she got sick of hearing it again and again. It was pretty obvious she wasn’t going to be the one changing any time soon. “Not that either of us have much experience in that, now do we Immy? Unless you have something to tell me?” Mina raised an eyebrow at her friend. She was joking of course, and her own relationship that ever lasted any significant amount of time had been with some guy she met in America and who had been nice enough to drive her across the country in his camper van. That had been fun as hell, and she had decided to stick around with him for a few months after the fact traveling around. But he was never a boyfriend, more like a guide and friend with benefits. “And trust me, if it gets her off my back, I will love the man just as much as she does. Maybe even more.”
Talking about Callisto had moved onto Adena though, and Mina nodded her head as her friend sounded shocked that the youngest one wanted to be a werewolf too. “Well, I think it’s for attention. Remember how I was? This is just her way of going about it,” Mina offered up. In truth, she had no idea why Dena wanted to be a werewolf, other than idolizing Sarah and their brother. While Mina understood the one, the other was much more distasteful in all shapes and forms. “She’ll get over it one day,” Mina sighed. “I don’t see the appeal in having to drink a potion and turn into a big hairy beast once a month. Such a waste of time when other things could be done, like drinking or sleeping.”
She frowned as Imogen said that she hadn’t talked to her own sister about her future plans. Mina supposed she wouldn’t understand that, since there were practically no bars held when it came to her siblings. They said whatever they wanted to, and none of them ever seemed like they were holding back secrets or what their plans for the future might be. There were the stupid ones here and there, like Adena wanting to be a werewolf, but for the most part they were open about everything. It was the only way to not go mad with all the constant bickering. She was the queen of that. “But it’s soooo easy. And you get to read the entire time if it’s quiet.” Pulling her pack of cigarettes out of her jacket pocket again, Mina extracted another death stick and lit it. “It’s a fun job. Just saying.”

Imogen rolled her eyes when Mina said that neither of them had any experience with a boyfriend solving their problems – or not solving them. That was true, but Mina didn’t have to bring that up. Imogen was certain that she was still better at romantic relationships than about half the world, considering she knew that it was better to be single and working on improving herself than to be in a relationship and expect that being with another person would somehow fix all of her flaws or make her whole. She doubted that Mina would care about her musings, so Imogen just shook her head. “If I ever find a significant other, you’ll be the first person to know, Mina.” That was basically a lie, since Imogen didn’t fancy getting teased mercilessly about her partner every time Mina was around. Truthfully, Imogen wasn’t sure she would tell anyone if she found a romantic interest – not because she wouldn’t be excited about it, but because she didn’t want other people to be meddling in her love life, and her friends, for all of their great qualities, were not the best about being… mild, and that could be scary to a potential partner. Imogen had to stop thinking so much about that – it wasn’t like she was looking for romance, or was likely to find it. Imogen snorted when Mina said that she’d love any boyfriend of her sister’s just as much as her sister did, if only to get her off her back. That wasn’t something that she’d heard before, but it made sense for Mina, who didn’t like people hovering whatsoever.
Mina said that she thought that her sister was making a guess about being a werewolf for attention, and Imogen just rolled her eyes at that. “You didn’t make any permanent decisions that you’d have to live with for the rest of your life.” Imogen pointed out. When Mina had come close to changing the course of her own future permanently, she had taken a few steps back, and was still able to graduate. In ten years, Adena might regret asking to be turned into a werewolf before she learned what that really meant. Mina said the Gryffindor would get over wanting to be a werewolf, but Imogen was doubtful. It seemed like a very Gryffindor-ish thing to do, to jump into something like that without thinking of any of the consequences.
When Mina said that working at the bookstore was so easy, Imogen snorted. “Sadly, not all of us have jobs that are that easy.” Imogen said, looking around at the empty stands. “I need to go back inside – they might need help controlling traffic.” It was always difficult when all of the students were moving in tandem, and even if there weren’t any traffic jams, fights were common when people were in close quarters and people could easily get jostled. “Try not to Splinch yourself on the way back.” Imogen said, standing up and patting Mina on the head. “I’ll see you later, Mina.” Imogen said before exiting the stands and making her way back to the castle to see what sort of mess awaited her there.
