Location: Great Hall, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Time: Start: 8 p.m. End: midnight
The Great Hall has been cleared of all long tables. Upon entering the hall, there is a refreshment table lined up against the back wall where students can have refreshments and an assortment of Halloween themed snacks. Toward the back of the hall are a couple round tables, about eight chairs at each so that students may rest and socialize at the same time. Toward the front of the hall, there is a dance floor. Where the teachers are usually perched is a stage with instruments set up for the band for the night: The Broken Bones, a hit wizard band much like the Wicked Sisters back in the day. A small table has been set up on the right hand wall from the entrance where votes can be cast for the best Halloween costume of the night!
There are Halloween decorations all around. There are orange, black, and white streamers in the doorway of the Great Hall for the students to walk through. Lit pumpkins are floating around the ceiling, as they do every Halloween. And there are bats that are flying around the hall as well. There are enchanted skeletons hanging all around the walls that will be trying to poke fun at you all night long.
Aurors are stationed at the front door to the hall and if you leave the Great Hall for any reason, you will be answering to @robhudson and @cain. No one is allowed in or out after 8 p,m. for security reasons.
Have fun!

7:30 P.M.
This was a stupid idea. Cori had never attended a dance party in her entire life, and for good reason. All those bodies in a crowded space, up close and touching? The idea was ludicrous. She could have opted out and spent time in the library instead, and most of her being wanted to do that. But a small part of her told her that this could be fun. This could be another chance to get out there and pretend to not be such a... coward. Not too mention, as soon as she heard that Alice would be one of the people opting out of the dance and hanging out in the library, Cori really had no choice but to attend the party.
As she put on her costume, a Classic Snow Queen getup, she thought about why she was doing such a stupid thing. The dress was low in the upper back and around the shoulders, revealing her skin plainly. Was she crazy? Any person could bump into her and any person she danced with would touch her skin, no doubt. She just had to keep her cool, and not dance with anybody. The only person she could really see asking her to dance was her recently made friend, Ronan. Or possibly that Matt boy from Slytherin. She would just have to tell them no, if they did ask. Though, she knew some guys would try to convince her any way. Both of them being like that. Though, if they both brought their own dates then she shouldn't have a problem.
That was another reason she shouldn't be going. A lot of people, at least in her year, were bringing dates to the party. She really had no obligation to go without a date, but then why was she doing it?
------- 7:45 P.M.
As she walked toward the hall she acknowledged the chaperones at the door. They didn't look familiar, so she just walked in the open doors without saying anything, but just giving each of them a nod of greeting. She entered the hall and smiled immediately. Hogwarts really knew how to decorate for a party, especially for Halloween. She immediately made a beeline for the refreshment bar and grabbed a glass of punch. She made her way over to the wall and took her place as a wallflower, her specialty.

There were no words for how excited Lien Hua was for this whole deal. Halloween parties? Awesome! She utterly adored dressing up and looking awesome - it was her favorite holiday, for sure - and having a whole awesome party, with music and friends and music? The Hufflepuff was so deprived for legit music, and not just choir music, it wasn't even funny, oh man. It was kind of ridiculous how much she was looking forward to this. As a result, she ended up getting dressed asap - dressing up as the fabulous Aphrodite, of course! It was quite revealing, a sleeveless belly-revealing shirt (was there a word for that? She was pretty sure there was, but she didn't know it!) with a long skirt that was slit at both legs. Of course, she had a white cloak draped over one arm, holding onto it in case she got called out for wearing an inappropriate costume - then, she could just throw it on and be a-okay! All was swell! For now, though, she wasn't wearing it, but was donning a pair of golden sandals and a little... laurel headdress thing? No, laurel was an Apollo thing - yeah, she didn't know WHAT the leaves were supposed to be, but hey, it looked cool! Arriving at 7:45 on the dot - early, so she wouldn't accidentally get locked out! - the girl gave a bright " Hi!" to both of the people stationed at the doors, before waltzing in through the fun streamers... and promptly screeching to a halt, gazing up at all the decorations with rapt wonder. No matter how many Halloweens passed, she'd never get over how utterly wonderful the Wizarding World decorated. For any holiday, honestly. Right, right, move. Casting her eyes out for her friends - they were never early, so probably not here yet - they landed lightly on a girl in a frigging awesome dress, that she recognized as an older Ravenclaw. Well, now is as good of a time as ever to see if the girl had ever noticed Lien Hua and her loudness, and if not, promptly introduce herself! " You look really beautiful in your costume!" she told the other easily, honestly meaning it - did this girl have a date? Didn't look like it. Could she be Lien Hua's? Maybe! Either way, frieeeeend, yes. " It's really cool!" Off to a great start, seemed like!! OUTFIT.

Cori whipped her head toward the girl her spoke to her and almost jumped. It was pretty surprising to have someone come at you like that. But, it must have been normal for regular social people. Cori plastered a smile on her face, trying to be genuine. "Well, thanks," she said as she looked down at the costume in question. It really was a beautiful peace of work, and Cori had made it herself. Though, she wouldn't tell anyone that right off the bat. Heaven forbid the cold Cori know how to do something like sew. The thought was just crazy.
She raised an eyebrow at the girl, "yours is... nice." Cori wasn't really sure what to make of the Greek style dress. Cori could already assess that this girl was very confident and outgoing. In fact, she recognized her. "Hey, I've seen you on the Quidditch field," Cori pointed out, recognizing that the girl was indeed on the Hufflepuff team along with Coris best friend Maryn.

"Thanks!" Lien Hua replied immediately to the compliment, not really grasping that it wasn't as 100% and enthusiastic as hers was. "I'm Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and lust!" People always forgot about the second one, and it was kind of annoying. She was more than love! Aaaaand more than love and lust, too, but she totally couldn't (and wouldn't) list them all off right now. No one really cared that much at aaaaall. So she wouldn't! Just think them inside and then it would all be pretty darn okay, yes.
The recognition wasn't something that she expected, but the girl accepted it happily, grinning with a bright nod and searching for her own recognition. "Yeah!" she replied easily, beaming brightly down at the other. "I'm one of the beaters, Lien Hua Williams, at your service!" That was a quote from something. She wasn't sure what it was a quote from, oops, but she could totally tell it was a quote! Probably supposed to be accompanying a bow? Ah, well, she wasn't bowing, not in this outfit, and it would probably be weird, anyway.
Not that she cared about weird. She was perpetually weird.
Lien Hua frowned, though, considering her - "You're at some of the practices, right?" It was kind of hard to keep track of everyone in other years and houses, especially when they were dressed up and looking completely different now, but she thought this was her...

Halloween Ball
Students and Professors
Emrys wasn't a party type of person, but official school events were a different thing than silly willy nilly teenage parties with alcohol littered everywhere, wild and provocative dancing, and drunken laughter. No, this was going to be a majestic, proper, and civilized. Oh, and most important, orderly. Therefore, Emrys was quite happy to attend. She actually fancied the idea of dressing up as something bold, brave, and heroic. She chose being a pirate. Alright, so pirates weren't fighters of justice or chivalric. They were bullies of the sea, looting, raping, and killing. But they were still legendary, and she admired their ability to endure natural hardships and fend off enemies, even if she would never dream to harm innocent seamen--or generally people--as they did. And anyway, they were not her enemies. Dark wizards were, but so far pirates had never done anything to aggrieve her. And besides, she thought that the costume looked cool. It was authentic and looked real, instead of those costumes that revealed thighs and cleavage. Plus, dressing up as a pirate wasn't going to turn her into a thug. Nowadays people viewed pirates in a playful manner. They were seen as stuff of legends and romances instead of creepy crawlies who you had to be on the look out for to hang--well, this was 2022, after all. So, anyway, she entered the Great Hall through the streamers, decked in her costume. She did have the cutlass, but it was sheathed and the scabbard was tied around her waste with a leather belt. Emrys thought that the Great Hall looked grand. As always, it was decorated well for the event. She eyed a bat flying in her direction before veering to the right and flying off somewhere else in the hall, and a slight smile actually formed on her lips. She hadn't expected living bats to be flying around the premises. Well, so much the better--it showed that whoever decorated the place was serious about making it Halloween-themed. She was surprised that she had been one of the few people to arrive. With an event like this, she expected students to be swarming into the hall like a plague. They probably took this event more seriously than she did, anyway. But then again, that explains why they would still be in their dorms obsessing over their appearance. However, she wasn't alone. Standing close to the wall were Coriander Pepsi and Lien Hua Williams. Emrys was more familiar with Lien Hua. The girl was a nice one, just too chaotic for Emrys to approve of her general personality. Coriander was looking lovely in her light-blue gown, and Lien Hua was looking...frivolous. She blinked, taking in how much exposure to the skin Lien Hua was sporting. She didn't have much of an opinion about it, just that Lien Hua was looking very feminine. And personally, very feminine was not Emrys' style, so she wouldn't have donned on anything like that. Anyways, she left the two girls to talk to themselves in peace and made her way to the refreshments. She was looking forward to plopping a cookie in her mouth and sipping some cider. Outfit

Cori nodded, "Oh, I get it. It's fitting." She was a little more enthusiastic that time, now that she actually understood what the costume was all about. It was funny, how the girl had mentioned Lust as well as Love. Most people just didn't toss that word around like an everyday thing. Especially not Cori, considering lust was a really tricky concept. She couldn't even hold someone hand let alone act on a lustful thought with them. She really just tried to avoid the subject all together.
She nodded as Lien Hua went on to explain her position in quidditch, "A hufflepuff beater," Cori deducted as she smiled, "I'm often at the practices. Your captain, Maryn, is my best friend." Cori felt relieved that she had a reason to talk about Maryn, for even the thought of her troubled Huffle best friend relaxed her. She hoped that the girl would show up at the party eventually, but truthfully she didn't even know if Maryn was planning on coming. She should have asked her that. Cori had just been so wrapped up in herself lately that she didn't say anything. She mentally chastised herself for that.
"You're a very good beater," Cori finally added, realizing that is probably what a quidditch player would want to hear. Not that she didn't actually believe it, but she just wasn't one for compliments really.
When Emrys walked in Cori was half tempted to wave because the girl was in the same year as her and Maryn. It was just nice to see a familiar face, but Cori didn't do anything. The girl soon turned away and moved on to something else, though.

Joffroi was a bit of the same opinion as Emrys when it came to parties. Well, teenage ones at least. Wild, raucous, and loud--that was totally not his style. He appreciated peace, quiet, and serenity. However, the school's Halloween Ball spoke a different language than a get drunk and wanton event at a friend's house, so Joffroi was quite willing to attend. For his costume, he chose to dress as a musketeer. The boy was half-French, for his mother Anette was a French madame who had found herself living in Britain. She had told him and his brother stories about the Three Musketeers when he was young, and being a fancier of good novels, Joffroi had been enchanted by them. He was older now and didn't play dress up as his favorite characters, but because this association would deem such an activity normal, he secretly pretended that he was being d'Artagnan. Putting on his costume hadn't been much of a problem, even if he was not used to putting on such garments (if he was, there must be something wrong in his head). As as soon as he was done, he had climbed up from the dungeons to the Entrance Hall, and thereon to the Great Hall. He was expecting to see lavish decorations and students in a variety of costumes already mingling with each other. Well, he got the decorations part correct. Stepping into the hall through streamers, he was momentarily stunned by how magnificent it was. Splendid, very splendid. However, he was wrong about the students part. There were students, but so far it only constituted of three girls in the higher years. Emrys, who was making her way to the refreshments, was unmistakably a pirate. He assumed she was a tomboy, and it looked quite decent on her. The other two girls, Coriander and Lien Hua, appeared to be much more feminine. Coriander looked eye-catching in her light-blue dress. And Lien Hua looked too provocative in his opinion. He was not sure what she was being--it seemed that she had donned scanty bolts of white cloth while completely exposing her midriff. But he did find her looking appealing in it. Whatever look she was going for, she did seem to pull it off. That was a fair assessment for Joffroi, Joffroi who usually disliked Lien Hua whenever they were on their way to classes. She was much too loud, bouncy, and spontaneous for his liking. But he did not know those three girls well, so he didn't see the point in talking to them. And that was fine. Joffroi was a bit of a loner. Friends came to him, but if they decided not to, he was happy to spend time alone with just himself, a book, and his cat, Janvier. He didn't want to stand around and do nothing, though. There were plenty of refreshments on the side table left untouched, and they were asking to be devoured. Joffroi didn't see why he should pass up the chance to grab a nice morsel and savor the taste in his mouth. Good food was always something to cherish. So, just like Emrys, he made his way toward the refreshments table. Once there, Joffroi picked up a danish filled with cream cheese and strawberry jelly. set it on a plate, turned around, and plopped the danish in his mouth. It was good, indeed. The house elves never failed to provide them with delicious food. ♥

Halloween Ball
hogwarts students and staff
A Halloween ball! Leonore had been very excited when she learned about the upcoming event to celebrate All Hallows Eve. It was going to be fun, leisurely talking, dancing, and eating refreshments. The best thing about it was that they would be decked out in costumes. But speaking of costumes, Leonore had zero percent confidence in herself for picking out a costume for herself. She was sure that anything that she thought up of by herself would be ridiculous. She knew that she should would wear the wrong things or not accentuate her costume enough. Therefore, Leonore had left it to her friends to decide what she should wear. Of course, they would simply suggest costumes to her and it would be up to her whether or not she liked those suggestions, but still, she was being utterly dependent on them for her outfit. Eventually, they settled upon a medieval dress that Leonore thought was lovely. She liked it very much, but one setback was that it was long, and she didn't trust herself to not get it ruined in some clumsy way in the party. She could accidentally trip over the skirt of the gown, or stain it with spilled juice. But Leonore really liked the dress and didn't want to have to hunt for another one, so she vowed to do whatever she could to not goof up. Her hair had been done by her friends. Again, something she was dependent upon them for. They had braided her long, brown hair into a braided plait that was swung over her shoulder. And with that, Leonore was set. As she made her way to the Great Hall, the Ravenclaw felt herself tense up and go rigid. Now that she was about to enter the ball, she was beginning to realize how scary it would be for people to notice her costume and stare at her. All costumes were bound to be scrutinized by others, and hers was no less an object of curiosity. Oh gosh, she hoped she could pretend not to notice. She would try not to bow her head, sweat, or blush. When she entered the Great Hall through the streamers, the sight that beheld her took her breath away. It was so enchanting. The decorations were marvelous. Halloween marvelous--in every way suiting the holiday. Another good thing about the hall was that there were only four people inhabiting it. Joffroi and Emrys were refreshing themselves with refreshments, and Lien Hua and Coriander were talking to each other. She took in their costumes; Joffroi was clearly a cavalier of some kind. That was a cool costume. Emrys was a pirate, and although it barely looked feminine, Leonore thought it suited the dark-haired girl. Coriander looked amazing in her icy dress. But when her eyes landed on Lien Hua, they widened. She was taken aback by how bold the Hufflepuff was. Never in her life would she imagine blatantly exposing so much of her skin in front of people. That was a nightmare. But that being said, Leonore had no idea what to do. She wasn't feeling like eating or drinking at the moment, but she was too shy to approach people who she didn't know well. But then what was she going to do; stand around and do nothing? No, that was unbearable. So after a moment of hesitation, she carefully made her way toward her housemate and the Hufflepuff. Once she approached them, she smiled sheepishly at Coriander and Lien Hua. "Hi, Cori. hi Lien Hua," she greeted them with a hint of shyness in her voice. "You both look amazing tonight." Outfit

"Oh! That explains it." Yeah, having Maryn for a BFF totally explained why she would watch their practices - the first time that Lien Hua had saw her, she had totally thought she was a Ravenclaw spy, but everyone else's lack of concern (aside from the other newbies) kind of made her reconsider. Now, though... everything made a lot of sense. And she was really nice, too! "Thanks!" she cheerfully replied, grinning from ear to ear. "It's super fun, one of my favorite things ever."
Anything physical was, like, her favorite thing ever. Before she could expound on that, though, something seemed to have caught the other girl's eye - ooh, it was Emrys! Looking like a super cool pirate! Lien Hua waved, but maybe that wave was why the other Hufflepuff decided not to come their way, instead busying herself with the refreshments. Or maybe she was hungry? That was a possibility - THIS Hufflepuff could go for some food as well, but then again, she could always go for some food. Maybe in a bit - and Emrys was joined by a Slytherin that didn't seem to like her that much, whose name escaped Lien Hua, but was dressed pretty cool.
Even if she had no idea what he was dressed as.
Thankfully, the next person to approach them - ooh, it was Leonore, she was quiet but nice! - had a costume that was much easier to guess, and Lien Hua turned to her with a grin. Oh, and now she knew that the Ravenclaw she was talking to was named Cori! Score! "Thanks, Leonore!" the girl replied easily, completely unashamed of her costume, grinning broadly. "You look beautiful, wow! It's a great costume!"
Everyone looked great, and every girl ever was utterly beautiful. Lien Hua spoke absolutely no lies, n o p e. They were all utterly grand.

This was possibly the strangest costume he’d ever worn. And Neville had had to infiltrate a den of trolls once. Honestly, he wasn’t really sure what he was even wearing. They claimed he was dressed as Nero, but Neville had a strong feeling that the Romans never looked like this. All he knew was that some students had taken it upon themselves to convince himself and Professor Grey to wear them. He had…eventually…agreed, but only if the students put forth all of the work necessary to put the costume together. And they had. The magical disguise left enough of his face to be easily recognizable, but the pointy ears, bald head, and tattoos made him look like some kind of….what was the Muggle term….punk? He looked like a punk elf. If Alice had been here and not the library, she’d have followed him around all night giggling. Still, Neville had seen and experienced too many things in his life to be embarrassed by a mere costume. So despite the protests of the students that he was meant to be stern and serious, he still greeted everyone with a smile as he slowly made his rounds through the Great Hall. It was difficult to keep parties such as these safe, and impossible to track everyone who came and left. They were doing their best, of course—the doors were closed, with Aurors on either side, allowing people in and out. Aurors patrolled the party, with others stationed at the library, where more students were enjoying a quieter celebration. Privately, Neville would have also liked to have Aurors patrolling the grounds, but they simply lacked the necessary numbers to do that and patrol the party in high enough numbers to dissuade the wolf among them from taking any action tonight. He stopped and grabbed a goblet. “Pumpkin juice.” The goblet filled instantly, and the deputy headmaster took a long, deep drink of the cool liquid. The long, dark outfit he was wearing to complete his costume was thick, leaving him uncomfortably warm (especially in such a large crowd). It left him uncomfortable in other ways, as well...he was reminded of the Death Eaters.

"Yup," Cori nodded slowly. She folded her arms and looked around the room before snapping her focus back onto the Huffle Beater. "I'm glad you like it so much, otherwise I don't think Mar would want you on the team." She chuckled. This girl really was a big ball of energy. It was kind of a relief, considering Cori generally hung out with subdued, gentle Ravenclaws or with herself. It was also a little overwhelming and frightening to an extent, but she wasn't going to bail yet. She was enjoying her conversation with the firecracker girl.
Cori felt a breath of fresh air sweep through her as Leonore entered the room. She was one of the few people that Cori actually didn't mind spending time with. She was shy, quiet and very kind. Cori admired her for that. Cori smiled softly as Leonore complimented them and nodded in agreement to Lien Huas comment. "She's right, you look really pretty." She smiled at Leonore, maybe a little awkwardly. The girls weren't best friends by any means, but they had always gravitated towards one another on the sidelines. Which seemed to be happening now.
"So, I guess we're the dateless group over here?" Cori chuckled, asking the two girls, though it was a little sad.
