Of course, how had he forgotten that she was a Lestrange? She knew exactly what he would mean when he told her that his family wouldn't approve. She knew all about the guilt and the lectures and the expectations. She was from another one of the Great Pureblood Families. "Uh yeah, nothing involving Muggles would even come up in conversation in the Fudge home." he said, a little awkwardly, with a bit of a laugh at the end to take the edge off. "If they thought their perfect, pureblood son would want to socialize and attend university with muggles... I don't even want to think about the lectures..." he admitted. He was already having a hard enough time with the idea of telling them about Kinsey - his halfblood girlfriend. He was pretty sure that he wanted Kinsey to remain in his life as long as possible, he didn't want his family to scare her away. When he asked what she was going to do, she answered, and he was both impressed and interested by her answer. A Hit Witch! he didn't know any Hit Witches - did he? "Really? What brought you to that? Does that have something to do with the boxing?" he asked.

Riley confirmed that muggles were not a welcome part of their families conversation, basically, and Andy laughed a little too in order to try and help alleviate the horrible racism of it all. Her brow furrowed when he talked about the lectures and the pure blood. "I'm so sorry, Riley. Really," she said in all sincerity. She wanted him to know that he had someone who understood, even if her parents were now dead. She still knew what he would face though. He was much worse off than she was actually, in a way. He then asked what brought her to want to be a Hit Witch, and mentioned the boxing. She smiled, "yeah, actually. I've been doing the boxing for therapy," she waved a hand, "because I'm crazy and did some crazy things. Long story short, I think it really helps. It's good to have something to focus on and it actually calms me down, having somewhere to send all that energy. I was thinking maybe taking on bad guys might be the best thing for me," she explained, then took another few bites of her food. She shrugged, "I always had wanted to be an auror but.. I think if you're willing to do the dirty work for the greater good than you have an obligation to do that."

Riley was fairly sure that Andy know that he didn’t feel the same way that his parents did on the subject at hand. He was sure that if he did feel that way, she would know it even more than she would know that he didn’t. It was almost always easier to know who the racists in the room were than those who weren’t. That is, until the racists started talking and the rest of the group began speaking against it. It was awful that they still lived in a world where they sometimes had to speak up in favor of basic human rights. “Yeah - it sucks. But until I’m financially able to support myself… they're really aren’t… options…” he had a trust fund. Once he got the fund, it was his and they couldn’t take it back. Until then he had to just grin and bare it.
She went into an explanation on his question and he found the whole thing extremely interesting, and he was sure that it showed in his facial expressions and she spoke. She got into boxing to get out aggression and to help with her therapy, interesting, it would be something that he would add to his journal to research. He hadn’t read much on physically types of therapies so much as the theories behind various methods of therapy. “I’m glad that’s working for you. And yeah! Why not take on the bad guys? I couldn’t imagine anyone better, you’re certainly strong enough.” he laughed, raising his still bruised shoulder a bit, happy that it didn’t hurt as much anymore. “It’s brave though, I couldn’t do it. I’d get to wrapped up in what’s going on in their heads…”

Riley confirmed that it sucked, saying that he had to deal with it until he was able to financially support himself. She figured that once he graduated would be soon enough, but that still wasn't for a while. She didn't continue on the topic, though. There wasn't much more she could say. She had the Longbottoms to save her, but who did Riley had? She had been lucky.
He said he was glad her boxing was working for her, agreeing that she could take on the bad guys. He said she was strong enough and she smiled slightly, shaking her head and looking down. She didn't know what to say to that compliment. She looked up as he said that he would get too wrapped up in what was going on in their heads. "I just forget they have thoughts, I think," she said, frowning a little. "It's easier that way... so you're really into how minds work on stuff. Bet you've always wanted to ask a crazy person questions about that," she chuckled a little, "ask me anything," all Riley would know about her state of mind was that she missed school the entire month of January because she was in a psych ward at Saint Mungos.

Riley was admittingly, caught off guard, once again by the bluntness of his dining companion. She insisted that he ask her anything, after saying that she would likely just forget that criminals had thoughts. Her first comment was something to think about, he liked to think that having thoughts made someone a human, and thus, to her and people in similar careers, was probably something they tried not to think so it was easier to deal with the criminals. It was a double edged sword, he figured. Thinking of them without thoughts stripped them of their humanity, but it also made it easier for them to do their job. That alone would take up days, if not weeks, of further research and contemplation.
Riley often forgot that she had been away for a month. He didn’t know her well enough to have been a part of all the action or really even in the know of any of it. He knew that she had been away and he knew where she had been, since it had spread around the castle like wildfire, but he wasn’t even sure why she was gone or what happened. “I don’t want to impose my questions…” he insisted, he really didn’t want to bring up any bad feelings again or have her relive her trauma. He had read enough to know that asking a lot of questions was sometimes a bad idea. “But I am curious to know… what happened… Like, what made you have to go…” he said.

He said he didn't want to impose and she actually rolled her eyes. She had given him permission to do just that, hadn't she? But then he said he was curious to know what happened, what made her leave. Now, this wasn't a surprise. A lot of people wanted to know that information. She didn't share details with most, just like she wouldn't give RIley all of them now. Many people had small parts of the story, but only her family knew the entire thing. Alice, Neville, Hannah, Phil, Jayden, Nik and Natalia. Everyone else just had the pieces. "That's a popular question," she said, not showing any sign of discomfort about it. Her therapist had told her she needed to find a place that was comfortable in her mind when this was brought up, she had gotten fairly good at it. "I hurt people, quite a few. They deserved it," she said factually, "but it wasn't my place to do that. one of them was Desirae Rousseau," Elaines right hand girl who was killed by auror Claire Slater last October. "She killed my best friend, Braelynn and... well, I guess I decided it was my job to kill her. But I couldn't do it. I was too much of a coward... or just a 'kid', I guess."

Riley listened silently and attentively as Andy explained her situation. Yup, he hadn’t heard about any of that, and he had to admit, he was a little surprised by it. But he tried not to let his surprise show on his face since he didn’t want to upset her. It was quite a story and as fast as gossip and drama spread around the castle, he was surprised that he hadn’t heard of it before. It made sense now, to him, why she had been put in in-patient care at St. Mungo’s for a while. She was young and it was probably a big red flag for professors and healers alike to have someone so young be acting up like that. “If it’s any consolation - I think it’s brave that you tried to… I mean… I don’t know if I would have gone that far since we’ve already established I don’t have the guts… but if someone hurt my best friend, or my sister or anyone, I think I’d at least want to do the same thing.” he admitted with a shrug.

He said that he thought what she did was brave, sort of. He didn't necessarily get a whole sentence out. He said he didn't have the guts and she chuckled, shaking her head. Then he said he'd want to do the same thing if someone hurt people he loved and she leaned forward, "but that's the hard part," she started, her voice lowering. "Everyone told me I was crazy and... maybe I was, a little, but I don't think it was wrong," that was a very, very recent decision, actually. "I just need to do it on a more... official level. Hence, the hit witch thing," she explained, lifting a hand to clasp around the goblet in front of her. "Not all of us are meant to be fighters. You, what you want to do," she lifted he glass toward him to gesture, "that's important too. You don't have to be the one to fight with your fists or your wand, Riley. You can fight the demons within. And, in a way, that's even more powerful than what I'm doing," her voice was firm and confident. "Someones got to save the heroes, the victims and even the villains. That person could be you."

Riley could feel the gears in his own head turning in thought as she explained her own thought process. At first, he had thought maybe he had offended her, but he was being honest, he wasn’t very much of a fighter, but he did know that he wouldn’t think twice about fighting anyone that put hands on Lydia, or Kinsey, or maybe even just anyone else. This conversation was getting him thinking. He knew he was protective. Knowing that someone was continuously hurting Kinsey and he couldn’t do anything about it drove him crazy almost every second of everyday. Riley agreed with her, he didn’t think she was crazy either. He thought maybe her methods were extreme, but he couldn’t blame her for seeking them. He was far too empathetic for his future job, wasn’t he? He’d had to learn to think more critically. Just as he was thinking that, she started explaining that what he was doing, err, wanted to do, would be considered fighting too. He nodded along with her words. No one had ever put it like that before. He hadn’t even thought of it like that before. He always just thought that people were interesting. “You might be the wisest person I’ve ever met.” Riley Fudge said with a smirk.

Riley spoke, saying she may be the wisest person he'd ever met, and she grinned, taking a sip from her glass. "No. Just been through too much," she laughed, setting the now empty glass down on the table. "You'll do great things. I don't doubt that, if your heart is in the right place," and she felt like hers was. She didn't know him that well, but he seemed like someone similar to her. Came from a life of crushing expectation and pureblood ideals and, somehow, found a way to become something wonderful out of that dark cocoon. Even if his parents didn't hurt him the ways hers did, they still were holding him back. "Riley," she leaned forward a little, smiling, "thank you so much for talking with me today. And convincing me to eat," she smirked.

Riley loved people who made him think. As someone who wanted to devote his life to studying the human brain and how people thought and interacted with each other, it was kind of rare at the point he was at where someone taught him something that he couldn’t learn in a book. It was sometimes hard to remember than humans were more than body language and vocal patterns, there was more than what any book could teach him. That was why he wanted to work with people. He wanted to learn more. He wanted to get a chance to put his skills to work and test his knowledge. He wanted to find himself stumped and have to work through it step by step. “I hope so.” Riley nodded bashfully when she insisted that he’d do great things if his heart was in the right place. Sometimes he wondered about that. He sometimes felt like he wanted to work with people for his own, selfish, academic purposes rather than wanting to help them. She went on to thank him for talking with her and for getting her to eat. He found himself feeling rather proud, obviously that was something she struggled with and he was glad to help. “Anytime. I’m here often and I love company.” he insisted with a smile. “Oh and uh, thanks again for the shoulder. I needed a reminder that I’m not invincible.” he teased, not at all trying to make her feel bad about it, completely in a joking manner.
