Shawn took a moment and just smirked as Rory suggested he might just go along with the crazy stories he made up. “Hey, depends on what I might make up. Could either sound like the hero of the school or the damsel in distress.” Shawn teased, he wasn’t going to be that mean. There was that chance with a few old stories but this was someone Rory had been talking to for sometime. If she didn’t know everything she probably wouldn’t be surprised by any little details she didn’t know.
It was a relief to hear that Shawn wasn’t taking up any of his friends time. While he wasn’t ever too concerned about it himself he didn’t need to worry about Rory being late for getting back to work on his part. Rory suggested they go get something to eat down in the kitchens for old time sake. “Sounds good to me, I’m pretty sure there’s bound to be a few house elves who remember us.” Shawn explained with a laugh as he started to lead the way. “It might just be enough for them to openly complain about something for once if they do.”

Rory sighed when Shawn made a good point and then lifted an eyebrow. "Well I guess I'll just have to see what you say and then make up my mind, since you want to make everything so complicated." Granted, he knew that was just how his friend was, and he expected it, but at the same time it made him a little nervous. He trusted Shawn most of the time, so he'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt here. Rory smiled and nodded when Shawn agreed to the idea of going down to the kitchens and then laughed at his comment about the house elves. "Oh, I'm sure you're right there." They messed around down there enough while they were in school that Rory kind of expected the elves to recognize them. Then again, Shawn might visit them from time to time, so the house elves probably knew he was here. "It might be ... I guess we'll have to go on down and see," Rory started to make his way, assuming that his friend would go with him. shawn lesley ashcroft(we can end if you want or thread them in the kitchens ... Shawn laughed as Rory realized just how bad some of the things he might have said to his friend could have been. Sure he wasn’t going to our right be mean but he could always be a little embarrassing to some people. “ Hey if we meet up where there’s drinks you can just keep buying mine and I’ll make you sound like a hero to your pen pal .” He replied only teasing as he wasn’t sure just how close Rory and his pen pal were but if they had been friends this long they had to be pretty close. “I won’t be too bad, promise.” He assured his friend as he was done teasing him on the matter. For now at least.
Rory agreed with him about the house elves and began to lead the way toward the kitchens. It was nice being back at Hogwarts with a friend. Most of the staff didn’t go the school the same years Shawn had or they just weren’t close. With Rory it just brought back plenty of memories of being here as students. “One of the plus sides of being an adult now is I could race you down to the kitchen and no one is going to take points away or give us a detention.” Shawn was very tempted by the idea but the second part would stop that. “Downside is if anyone sees a professor and a healer running somewhere they are going to assume something bad happened.” Any other time a little harmless fun wouldn’t have bothered him but with multiple attacks to the school and train station he didn’t want to put anyone through that stress. “Have to save the race for another time, besides I would have won anyway. Four legs are better than two after all.”

Rory laughed when Shawn said that if he bought the drinks he'd be nice. "Sure you will," Rory answered, rolling his eyes. He trusted Shawn, but he wasn't sure how much he trusted the man around Emmy. Or around anyone else that he could tease Rory in front of. Rory was fully aware of how much Shawn liked to have fun. Rory merely nodded when Shawn said he wouldn't be too bad. He still wasn't sure how he felt about that, but he'd have to see when it happened. Shawn started talking about how they couldn't get a detention if they decided to run down to the kitchens and Rory started giving him a look. Did Shawn really want to run? Wasn't he supposed to be a figure of authority? Then he continued, and Rory nodded. They weren't going to be running anywhere in the middle of the day ... or probably during school. Maybe during the summer or something. "Yeah, that probably wouldn't be so good." He laughed, "We'll have to find some time when we can run through the hallways without any consequence," he teased, knowing as he said it that he was probably encouraging Shawn to figure out some time when they actually could. He wouldn't mind that too much. He let his jaw open, "You'd cheat?" he demanded, unable to help himself. shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn laughed as Rory agreed with him about how it would be bad for them to run the halls. How it would cause a panic that the school obviously didn’t need. Still Rory suggested that Shawn could probably think of a time where they could race the halls. “Hey, don’t tempt me. I work here after all I’d have an excuse slightly.” Shawn joked as if he wouldn’t have covered for his friend if anything happened. “But you. Well I don’t know why a healer is running around our halls in the middle of the night.” He added still in jest for a moment before a smirk crept on his face.
“Cheating is such a dirty word. I’m just going to use all the tools I have available.” Shawn elbowed Rory for a moment as they walked toward the kitchen. “If you can find some way being a Medi-Wizard helps you I’d totally allow it. Hey I could teach you how to be an Animagus if you want.” The idea was almost too tempting but no one ever really knew what they might turn into as an Animagus for the first time. “Either you’ll be faster than me or a snail or turtle.” Shawn added, teasing Rory slightly on some of the slower animals out there.

Rory couldn't help but chuckle as Shawn told him to not tempt him. "Like you haven't thought of it already," he retorted. His friend continued, saying he could find an excuse for himself, but not for Rory. "Yeah right. You're the king of excuses, but don't worry, I can take care of myself." Rory spent enough time with Shawn in school to be able to make up excuses for things on the fly. It didn't really matter though, because they weren't running around so he didn't have to prove himself now. Rory shook his head as his friend elbowed him and said he was using his resources. "Yeah yeah," he muttered. Honestly, he wasn't altogether surprised that Shawn would find ways to give himself an edge. That was just his friend. He laughed when Shawn mentioned being willing to teach him to be an Animagus. "I'll keep that in mind," he answered, though he didn't really see himself wanting to do that. He lifted an eyebrow when Shawn said that he'd either be faster or slower than him. "Well seeing as how those are the only two options, I'm sure you're right," he said as he rolled his eyes. "Pretty sure I'd be faster than you though," he added, just because he could. shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn attempted to act surprised as Rory explain how he had already thought of racing the halls. “I’ll have you know I’m a professor of this school and I would...” Shawn paused to laugh knowing anyone who had any idea of who he was would never believe him. “Totally do something like that and have thought of it a few times.” He continued with the truth, he wasn’t much a liar even if wanted to be, the closest he could come was being great at exaggerating. “You say that like it’s a bad thing. I’ve just had plenty of practice attempting to get out of trouble. Most of them never worked of course but it never hurt to try.” He added as he was always up to something while he was at school and it was very rare a professor ever believed him.
He just smirked as Rory agreed even if he didn’t sound happy about it. Shawn used any excuse he could to use his abilities as an Animagus. It wasn’t just because he liked being in the form of a dog, which he did. No- he also just wanted to prove people wrong. Most people who he told about it while he was training to become one told him it was just a waste of time. He would never use it that often or he would probably get something ridiculous. “Hey I’m all for finding out what you might turn into. It’ll be funny to see one way or another.” He explained as he had no problem teaching anyone the craft. First he was a professor after all and teaching was literally his job. Second he was curious what his friend might become and if he would indeed be faster. Still this wasn’t for everyone and Shawn knew that. “I look forward to you being a box turtle.” Shawn teased for a moment as they got to the basement floor.

Rory's eyebrows lifted sarcastically as his friend began to mention that he was a professor here and ... would definitely do the sort of thing Rory described. He laughed, not surprised in the least. "Yeah, that's what I thought," he teased his friend. "See, I still know you pretty well, even after a few years." He shrugged when Shawn mentioned that it wasn't a bad thing, but that he had lots of practice. "It's not a bad thing at all. As I recall, it was always pretty entertaining seeing the explanations you'd give." He chuckled as a few memories came to mind. Oh, the trouble he got into with Shawn. Shawn continued to express his opinion that it would be fun to see what Rory became and he nodded. "It would be interesting," Rory admitted. "I'm just not sure I'm committed to the process. I know it takes a long time and lots of effort and I'm pretty busy with work and such." Then he smirked at his friend, "Besides, if I'm going to become a box turtle I doubt it would even be worth it." The likelihood that he would become such a slow animal wasn't high, but he'd take it as a way to tease his friend. He followed his friend down the corridor, looking for the portrait of fruit and realizing that he hadn't been down here for a really long time. How was it that school only seemed like a few years ago, when it was closer to ten? shawn lesley ashcroft

Shawn just laughed a Rory explained how he still knew him well even if it had been a few years since they ran into each other. “Well that’s not to hard I suppose. For someone who changes forms so often I don’t seem to change much else about me.” Shawn joked slightly but he liked to assume deep down somewhere that he wasn’t getting any older or different. He didn’t like the idea of being some old grump someday like a lot of the old people he had met in his life. Many were nice but a lot just complained and seemed so mad all the time. Shawn laughed for a moment as well as Rory explained that some of his excuses when in trouble had been entertaining. “ At least that accomplished that.”
As Rory explained about becoming an Animagus, shawn just smiled almost with a small smirk. All he was saying was true after all. It was a long and hard process and many always assumed that he himself would never become one because of those things. Still Shawn proved those people wrong and he enjoyed that but he could understand others not wanting to go through the trouble if they weren’t that interested. “Oh but I can feed you lettuce and put you in a box. It’ll be great.” Shawn teased for a moment as if Rory would become a turtle anyway. While they walked he notice Rory almost seeming to zone out a little. “Nothing seems to change here really, only thing I noticed really was that everything didn’t seem as big as it used to be.” More Shawn was just taller than when it was a student and used to it being so much bigger as before he left school. “Let’s get to the kitchen, I’m sure some students are in there that we can scare out. You’d be surprised how many professors actually do that just for fun like I always thought they did.”

Rory's laughter died down, but he was still grinning at his friend. "I'm glad you haven't changed that much. It's nice to have you the same. It's easier to know we're still friends that way." A part of him was teasing, but he wasn't entirely. He really appreciated having Shawn as a friend, but it was hard to keep friendships once you were done with school. They were on completely different paths. He shook his head as Shawn continued to tease him about becoming a turtle. It would not happen. At least, he was fairly sure it wouldn't. At the moment, he had no intention of becoming an Animagus, so it couldn't, right? He laughed, "I'm glad nothing changes. It makes the castle more fun to come back to." Then he smirked, excited at the prospect of scaring students, "Oooh, yes let's do that. I love the idea of scaring them." He wasn't a professor, but he was with one. This was going to be a fun afternoon, for sure. Spending time with Shawn was always fun. shawn lesley ashcroft(we can end it there!)
