It was way past the time of dinner in the Great Hall, and maybe Peyton should be sleeping, but she just couldn’t. She had gotten so close to finishing her book, that going to sleep now would be horrible. So, with that, she quickly snuck from her bed and immediately walked from the Hufflepuff common rooms to the kitchen that wasn’t located far away. With book in hand, she slipped into the kitchen; there weren’t many elves around, maybe they were too busy getting the sleep that she should be. Maybe some coffee would help me stay up, though Peyton to herself as she set her book down and flipped on one of the light switches, it illuminated half of the room. And with that, she quickly went to work looking for ingredients that she needed. It may be April, but she could always go for a pumpkin spice latte. She was a fall girl, after all, she loved anything that dealt with pumpkins. She quickly found a mug that was clean and empty and began making her latte, after finding the things that she’ll need using a little magic. While Peyton could have simply waved her wand and used a little magic to allow herself to be able to read while the drink was made, she liked the idea of getting a bit messy. So, there she was, pouring and mixing, and just as she added the final touch to her drink, a bit of whip cream on the top with pumpkin spice powder sprinkled on top, she heard someone enter. At first, she believed it to be an elf, so she ignored it and instead sat down, taking a sip of her warm drink and began reading once more.

Kinsey didn't get a lot of sleep lately. She wasn't exactly sure why, but she just couldn't do it. She spent a lot of time listening to her roommates breathe, looking out the windows in her dorm and in the common room. Quite often she found herself wanting to wander the palace, but she couldn't seem to force herself to. Even though no attacks happened this year, she didn't want to get caught on her own. However, occasionally she couldn't help the need to leave the common room. Whenever that happened, she made her way to the kitchens. It was all the way across the castle, but she couldn't help herself. The kitchens were calming and she often would just go down and cook for herself. The house elves were quite used to her by now, since she spent most of her mealtimes in the kitchens over the last few years.
She walked in the door, closing it softly behind her and then turning to see her sister sitting there. "Peyton?" Kinsey asked as she took a hesitant step toward her sister. She always doubted how her sisters would react to her, especially since Diana told her she was a burden on all of them. That made Kinsey doubt all her interactions with everyone that knew her secret, which was her family and Riley. She bit her lip and then gave a small smile. "What are you doing out so late?" her voice was soft and she hoped Peyton wouldn't take offense to the question. "I couldn't sleep," she admitted, not wanting to make her sister feel like Kinsey was attacking her for being out late.

Just as Peyton raised her mug to her lips and blew on the steaming liquid, she heard her name come from behind her. Quickly she sat the mug down and spun around, wanting to tell the elf that knew her name that she was just leaving. But she was met with the sight of her older sister, Kinsey. Peyton loved her sister dearly and didn’t judge her or hate her for the secret that she held from the world, though their family knew of it. She smiled at her older sister, “I was reading and lost track of time, I just wanted to finish this last chapter before I went to bed,” she said with a smile laugh. But then her face turned to one of concern as her sister couldn’t sleep, “Do you want some coffee or tea?” she questioned as she looked at her sister, “Or maybe want to talk? I’ll be up for a bit,” she added with a smile on her face. Peyton loved talking, and if she was able to hang out with her sister, find out what was wrong and just get to spend some nice time in the kitchen, then she was all for it. She gently placed her book down on the table before her, right next to her still steaming mug. “Pull up a seat,” she said with the same loving smile that she always held on her face towards friends and family.

When Peyton explained that she was awake because of a book, Kinsey couldn't help but smile just a little. "Pey, are you sure you shouldn't be in Ravenclaw? Staying up to read ..." she clicked her tongue, teasingly. To anyone watching it might seem like Kinsey was being very sarcastic and rude, but Peyton knew her attitude better than that, Kinsey was sure. She shook her head when Peyton asked if she wanted some coffee or tea. "No, I wanted cookies and milk," Kinsey said, turning to a nearby house elf to ask for just that. He nodded his head enthusiastically and bounded off. Kinsey turned back to her sister. "We can talk," Kinsey agreed. "What is going on with you?" Kinsey asked curiously. She still hadn't told her younger sisters that she was dating Riley Fudge, but she wasn't trying to keep it a secret ... she just didn't see them often. Kinsey took the chair next to her sister, smiling when the house elf returned with her cookies and milk. She didn't know if she felt excited or nervous for the conversation.

‘Pey, are you sure you shouldn't be in Ravenclaw? Staying up to read...’Peyton laughed at the teasing words of her sister, “I probably am, but who knows why the Sorting Hat picked Hufflepuff. Was probably tired of dealing with siblings wanting to be with each other. Since he sorted Sephy and Pen first, he just threw me into the mix,” she said with the same amount of amusement. The sorting hat worked in mysterious ways, and no one knew what would happen whenever he was placed on someone’s head during the sorting ceremony. She had read about the sorting hat in a previous year, just for fun, and had barely learned anything about his origins or the way he thinks; if he even thinks at all. “Oh, cookies and milk, now why didn’t I think about that?” she asked in the same amused tone as she took a sip of the pumpkin spice latte that she had made, the warmth of it traveling down her throat and into her belly. “Warning, I will steal a cookie,” she said while wiggling her eyebrow with an amused chuckle as she placed her mug back on the table before them. It was then, with curiosity evident in her voice, that Kinsey asked what was going on with her. She wasn’t sure if Peyton had done something that had caused Kinsey to ask this question, but she believed that she meant something more along the lines of what she had been up to. At least, she hoped that was the case. She shrugged her shoulders, “The usual, working on assignments, reading my muggle books, just living my mundane life,” she said with a laugh “What about you? I feel as if we haven’t talked in ages,” she concluded just as Kinsey sat down next to her, the house elf returned with cookies and milk, and Peyton quickly swiped one and took a bite.

Kinsey smiled at her sister's joke that she probably should belong in Ravenclaw, but that the sorting hat was tired of dealing with them. She didn't think that was how it worked, of course. The hat somehow knew just where everyone belonged. She hadn't ever heard of it making a mistake. Her smile widened as her sister obviously approved of her treat of choice. "Well, I am a genius, and that's what it takes to think of cookies and milk this late at night," she teased. Then Kinsey shrugged at her sister's warning. "Go ahead. I'm sure I can get more if I want to," she answered, obviously not worried at the threat.
Peyton started to explain that life was normal, as always, and she felt a little guilty. She should be more involved in her sisters' lives. Kinsey shouldn't have to ask what was new, she should reach out. But then again, that was always a struggle for Kinsey. Even when it came to people she knew her entire life and loved deeply, she sometimes struggled to show them how she felt, even just through seeking them out and asking a question or two. When Peyton turned the question on her, Kinsey bit her lip nervously. She had to tell her, but when she started speaking she couldn't meet her sister's eyes. "I ... I met someone. We started dating just a short while ago. His name is Riley Fudge. Do you know him?" Kinsey nervously looked back up to Peyton, worried that she wouldn't like him or wouldn't approve or something. It wouldn't change her mind about Riley (nothing could) but she worried all the same.

Peyton was close to many of her siblings, more so with her sister Cara and her triplet sisters. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t close with Kinsey, Dustin, and Diana. She loved them all, enjoyed being part of their family and being able to experience the world with them. Just because Kinsey was a little different, with her little ability, didn’t mean that she should be treated differently. She loved spending time with her siblings; it just depended on them if they liked hanging out with her stubborn, bossy little butt. Peyton returned the smile that her sister lets through after the little joke about the sorting hat. She tried, you know, to tell jokes that were funny. That one wasn’t the best, but it was better than many she said in the past. She just didn’t have the right sense of humor for a joke. She rolled her eyes as her sister called herself a genius and that was what was required to think of milk and cookies, but she laughed. “You keep telling yourself that Kinsey,” she said in an amused tone filled with the small sound of laughter. It was then that the conversation moved from that of milk and cookies, and just as she took a sip of her drink as she waited for Kinsey to tell her what was new with her life, she was brought in for a shock. One that made her almost choke on her drink as she looked at her. “You met someone and are dating? And I’m just finding out now?!” she exclaimed in mild outrage, but she was just shocked. It was then that she presented her with a name, “It kind of sounds familiar, but who knows,” she breathed. “Anyways—how did you guys meet? I want to know everything!” she said with a smile on her face as she once more took a sip of her pumpkin spice latte that was still quite hot and half-full. She could already feel the caffeine replacing her blood and leading her to the state of excitement. Good luck getting her to bed now.

Kinsey couldn't help but smile when she made her sister laugh. She knew that she didn't always get along with all her sisters- particularly with Cara and Diana as of late- but she still liked hearing Peyton's laugh. It was soothing to her.
Then, after she admitted to being in a relationship, she watched her sister's reaction. It almost seemed like Peyton was about to spit out her milk, or like it would come out of her nose or something. Then she started asking questions, demanding to know why she didn't know until now. "Well, I haven't seen you in a while," Kinsey started, feeling a little guilty. The honest truth was, she didn't think about telling her sisters because she was caught up in being with Riley, in the fact that she finally found someone who liked to be with her. "I'm sorry. It's pretty recent, I just ... forgot?" She looked at her sister with an apologetic expression. "Sorry Peyton."She took a deep breath before getting ready to explain a little bit of how they met. "Uhhh Riley found me on ... one of my hard days," Kinsey started, assuming her sister would think she was talking about how some days she had a harder time than others when it came to her gift. Some days she got overwhelmed, weighed down more than others. That wasn't what happened when Riley found her, but she wasn't telling Peyton about Dom. "I was sitting by the pond on my own and he came and ... sat with me and we talked and he helped me feel better." She turned to her sister, wanting to explain this right. "I could sense his intentions, Peyton and all he wanted was to help me feel better and protect me, even though he didn't know what was wrong. It was so ... refreshing to sense that coming from him. Then the next day he walked me to breakfast and we realized we have almost all the same classes together. After that, things just progressed until we were dating." Basically. Surely Peyton wouldn't want to know everything, would she? Kins wasn't really sure. "Does that answer your questions?" Kinsey asked hesitantly.

‘Well, I haven’t seen you in a while,’The words of truth that came from Kinsey’s lips had a small frown appearing on Peyton’s lips, and a sense of sadness fill her heart. She felt like she was mostly responsible for that, though the guilt that came from Kinsey’s eyes said that she felt the same way. Kinsey wasn’t the only one that was to blame for them barely seeing each other; it was Peyton’s as well. She had been so busy in her studies and her own life, that she ran away from her family for the most part. “It’s okay, just tell me everything,” she said with a smile that should nudge her sister on. And then she listened, listened as Kinsey told her the story of her first meeting with Riley, and a smile appeared to grow on her face. She loved seeing people happy, especially her family, and learning that Riley did just that made her happy for her sister. In the end, she was given the question of having answered everything, but she wasn’t done. One more burning question filled her being and without even stopping the words, then came spilling out. “Do you think you’re in love?” that question came out with force and quickly Peyton bit her bottom lip before shaking her head. A small blush appeared on her cheeks as she quickly rushed out her next words, “You don’t have to answer that if you don’t want.”

Kinsey was definitely not expecting the question that came from her sister's lips next, asking if she thought she was in love. She hesitated, thinking about her question for a moment, even when Peyton told her she didn't have to answer. "I don't mind answering your questions, Peyton," she told her sister honestly. "I mean, I should have told you about him ages ago, so ask all the questions you want and I won't mind." Kinsey inhaled, trying to think of the best way to answer her sister's question. "We've only been dating for about a month," she started, "but ... I might love him. I'm not exactly sure. I'm happy around him, happier than I feel around anyone else- that's not family, you know- and he wants to protect me and make me happy. He's just so ... good." She laughed, "Sorry, I guess I'm rambling. I guess ... I don't know if I love him, but I definitely really care for him and I could definitely see it progressing to love, if he feels the same way, you know." She shook her head. "I'm not really sure if I know what I'm doing, but I can be myself around him and I like that." Kinsey bit her lip. "Any other questions?"

‘I don't mind answering your questions, Peyton. I mean, I should have told you about him ages ago, so ask all the questions you want and I won't mind.’Peyton bit her lip, unsure if the tone of voice that Kinsey was giving her was holding truth to her words. She didn’t want to seem like she was forcing her sister's hand, but she was honest, but the way that she inhaled was as if that wasn’t the case. She quickly took a sip of her drink as Kinsey started to answer everything that was laid on the table, telling her how long they’ve been together, that it might already be love, but she wasn’t sure, but he made her happy. Peyton smiled nodding her head as Kinsey apologize for her rambling, “It’s okay—rambling shows that you truly like this guy. And I’m glad he makes you happy Kinsey, you deserve to be happy,” she smiled. “You are an intelligent, kind, and compassionate person I know, and you deserve to be as happy as you make others,” she concluded. “I’m sure he feels the same way, he would be a fool not to love you,” she said in a serious but slightly teasing manner, but she hoped that he did. Seeing her siblings happily in love, it made her all giddy inside. It was then while biting her lip that her sister revealed that she didn’t know what she was doing, but she could be herself around him, and she found herself frowning. She thought Kinsey knew that she could be herself around her family, or at least, she hoped that she knew that. At least, Peyton wanted her sibling to be herself around her. “I’m glad,” she said with a smile and a broken look on her face, she was glad that Kinsey could be herself around this Riley fellow. “Yes—one, when do I get to meet him?” she questioned with the same chipper tone that she had on her face moments ago.

Peyton was so ... honest. It was one thing that Kinsey really liked about her sister. Of course, thanks to Kinsey's gift it was easy for her to know that as well. She felt bad for keeping herself at a distance from her sister, but at the same time ... felt like it was necessary. She didn't want Peyton to end up feeling the same way Diana did, that Kinsey was a burden and a pain to have around. Better to keep her distance and make their interactions positive so her younger sister didn't get sick of her.
Kinsey smiled as Peyton said she didn't mind the rambling, that it meant Kinsey really cared for Riley. That was true. "Thanks Peyton," Kinsey answered. She gave a soft laugh when her sister said that Riley would be a fool not to love her. "I'm trying to not get my hopes up too soon ... but I really hope he does," Kinsey admitted, sure that Peyton wouldn't mind knowing that secret. She noticed her sister frowning, but Kinsey wasn't sure why. Peyton said she was glad, but her expression didn't show it. "Peyton, what's wrong?" Kinsey asked. She didn't want her sister to be upset and was nervous she said something to cause it. She offered a small smile at Peyton's last question. "You can meet him whenever you want to." Kinsey was sure Riley would be happy to meet one of her sisters and was sure that he'd get along well with Peyton.

Peyton was happy for her sister, she truly was, but this twinge of jealousy seemed to flutter through her. While she had spoken with Miss Angie about her wish for a boyfriend and the likes, she had gotten over it. And here was another person getting that, she wanted the same happiness and feeling that she could tell that her sister was feeling. It was soon that Kinsey admitted that she didn’t want to get her hopes up too soon, and she understood, people seemed to change their emotions rather quickly these days when it came to their feelings for others. Sometimes it was a stupid little mistake that got fixed in the future, and other times the person was just a jerk, or so she had learned from others that had loved and lost. But she prayed to whatever god was out there, that this was not the case. After everything that Kinsey had been through, she bloody deserved this. It was then that her sister asked her what was wrong, and she found herself biting her lip before brushing it off, “I’m just completely and utterly jealousy,” she said with a small smile, but it didn’t show any rudeness towards her sister. “I want to feel like you do, if only you could share the feeling with me,” she said jokingly with a laugh. “I won’t embarrass you like our other siblings would, so you can introduce me to him anytime you feel ready,” she exclaimed with a smile on her face, a true and pure smile this time.

Kinsey was a little worried for her youngest sister. She wasn't sensing any negative intentions from her sister, but she could tell by looking at her face that something wasn't right and Kinsey wanted to know why. She bit her lip at Kinsey's question, but then said she was jealous. Instantly, Kinsey reached forward and pulled her sister into a hug, which was definitely something she didn't normally do. Her family was well aware of the fact that she didn't like physical contact, since it made her gift stronger, but she didn't have words to express what she wanted to say, so she gave Peyton a tight hug. "Your time will come," she promised when she pulled away. "You are amazing and someone is going to notice that." Kinsey searched her sister's eyes, hoping to help. She frowned a little bit. "Honestly, I didn't think I would ever find someone that would like me, especially with my gift." That's part of the reason why Riley was a miracle to her. He didn't care that she was different. He liked her for who she was, and ignored her abnormalities. She smiled at her sister. "What about sometime this summer?" she asked, wanting to be able to spend time with both of them outside of school.

The moment that her older sister pulled her into a hug, she was surprised. She had known that Kinsey usually avoided things like hugs or touches simply because of her gift, so this was a surprise. A pleasant surprise, one that filled her with warmth that her sister hugged her. It made the jealousy fall away in pieces, and before she could wrap her arms around the other girl, she pulled away. Peyton smiled at her sister, softly and warmly, “You’re right…I just have to be patient,” she breathed out before looking at her sister. “You aren’t your gift – your gift does not define you, you have to remember that. You define your gift; it’s what makes you – well you.” The words slipped through her smile as she spoke the truth, and then came the question of meeting the man that stole her sister’s heart over the summer and she quickly nodded her head, “I’d like that!” she exclaimed with a grin on her pale pink lips. Slowly a yawn slipped through her lips, and she instantly knew that it was perhaps time to head back to the basement, the location of her common room, to get at least a little bit of sleep for the previous day. “I should get going,” she breathed out as she slipped from the seat she had been sitting on and grabbed her book, “I’m holding you to the whole summer thing,” she jokingly added. “Goodnight sis,” she said with a smile, holding back the want to hug her sister and instead just gave her a tight smile and a small wave, before making her way out of the kitchen.
