Fiona sat on her bed on that blustery spring day. The wind was whipping outside and she felt bad for everyone and everything that had to be out in it. Spring weather was unpredictable, especially in the north like they were. It never got extremely hot in Scotland, even during the summer. And rain and wind were common since they were atop a mountain. The Hufflepuff sat on her bed with her cozy, plush blankets around her and a hoodie on. Her new pet Hamster, Goldie, whom she had only had for a few days lounged inside the pocket of the hoodie where it was warm, dark and safe, close to her. Fiona had one hand in her pocket, stroking her new baby, while her other hand was busy at work, trying to finish her transfiguration essay before dinner so she wouldn't have to worry about finishing it this evening when all she wanted to do was rest and sit around in the common room.

Peyton had been outside working on homework, and while it had been very warm eventually the wiping of her hair and the papers she was writing on was growing slightly annoying. The clock was ticking above, and she knew that dinner would be happening soon. And while it wasn’t exactly something that needed a lot of time, she knew that she needed to make sure everything was right. That was why, after almost an hour of sitting outside alone and somewhat annoyed, she decided to head back inside. She couldn’t exactly go to the Great Hall, it was most likely either full or being prepared for dinner, and the library was a long walk, she decided to head to the common rooms. Her feet padded against the ground, books held to her chest, blonde hair falling her back as she passed people. It didn’t take long before she stood before the common room doors, got past the security that held people out, and was making her way up to the dorm room. She slowly pushed open the door and was greeted by the sound of silence, or slightly silent; there was the sound of a quill rasping against a piece of parchment. And when she looked at the sound of the noise, she was met with the familiar face of Fiona. She was in a few of her classes, as well as her year, and quickly she walked over to where she sat working on something. “That the transfiguration essay?” she asked, kind of nervous to interrupt her. Peyton too had the same essay, something that she had been working on for a bit early in the day; she was going to finish it right after dinner.

Fiona looked up from the essay when she heard the door open and she smiled at her roommate and friend, Peyton as she entered their dorm. She looked a little windswept and Fiona began to wonder if her friend had been caught outside in the storm. Poor thing if she had. However, she didn't look like she was too upset over anything so it couldn't have been that bad. "Yeah, it is. I'm just trying to see if I can finish it today before dinner." she said, but glancing up at the clock on the wall told her that she had less time that she thought she did. The paper wasn't due until next week, but Fiona liked to operate at least a week ahead so that she was never overly stressed about due dates.
"What were you up to today?" The Hufflepuff asked. Her hamster, Ginger resituated himself in her pocket so that his face was now sticking out of her pocket. Fiona assumed that he hadn't been getting enough air and needed a fresh breath of crisp, castle air. She worried about him getting too cold, but the house elves saw that his cage stayed warm and whenever Fiona was allowed to or able to have him with her, she did. He was very well looked after.

Peyton walked towards her bed in the sea of the dorm room, quickly grabbing a hair tie off of the nightstand and wrapping her hair up in a messy bun, at least then it wouldn’t look so bad. Just as she finished wrapping her hair so that it was no longer down in the messy blonde waves that were everywhere, Fiona answered that she was indeed said essay and that she wanted to get it finished before dinner. Peyton admired Fiona’s dedication, and while she knew that the paper wasn’t due until next week, Peyton would be working on it each day as she went. Tonight, she would start it as well, but she needed food in her belly before she did so. It was then that Fiona asked her what she was up to today, and Peyton smiled as she crossed the space between her bed and the other girls to stand near it so she could answer. “I was reading outside, but the wind is a monster today,” she started with a small laugh, “But later, probably after dinner I’ll be stopping by the library to get some of the essay done myself. I usually go through a lot of ink and parchment during the span of time before it’s due, I need to get it just right.”“Do you have any plans? For after dinner and your essay is complete?” she asked with mild curiosity as she slowly placed herself down on the bed opposite of Fiona, she couldn’t remember who slept there, but she was sure they wouldn’t mind. She’d move if they asked her to, that is if they returned to the bedchambers before dinner.

Peyton explained that she been outside until the wind picked up. Fiona was always more comfortable inside. There were days when she felt differently and days when she liked being outside, but for the most part, she liked the warm and dry environment provided for them in the dorms and common rooms. She knew she was safe inside of this bubble, in these walls no one was mean to her. Granted, most people didn’t know who she was or forgot that she existed, but no one was mean. Outside of the common room she had no idea who anyone was, she hated seeing the people who had once laughed at her. She hated seeing Gilderoy. Inside the Hufflepuff commons she didn’t have to, she had no one avoid. “Uh no, not really any plans. I figured it’d cozy up with a cup of tea in front of the fireplace in the common room and read or something.” Fiona admitted after her friend said she was going to the library after dinner to work on the essay. “Or play with Ginger if he’s feeling up for it.” She shrugged.

The idea of sitting before the fire with a nice cup of tea sounded nice, or even a book. While at Hogwarts she had done that once or twice, at least, until the entire room had filled with constant talking and the pacing of people. Once it was no longer silent, she was no longer interested and would disappear into the bedchambers to attempt to read. Eventually, she would give up. That was why she enjoyed reading and spending time outside or in the library, it was always quite in one or the other places, and she liked her peace. “Oh? What are you reading? Anything interesting?” she questioned with mild curiosity and interest as her friend said that she might also read. Then she added playing with Ginger, and she realized that she was speaking about the little ball of fluff that was her hamster, a creature that she had gotten a few days ago. “Sounds like a rather nice night,” she said with a small laugh. It was true though; it sounded like a nice night instead of working on an essay like Peyton would be.

Peyton asked what Fiona was reading and she shrugged with a shy sort of smile. “Oh, it’s nothing really, it’s this muggle novel about time travel. Two people of different times fall in love and it’s really cheesy.” she shrugged. Fiona was a fan of almost any sort of novel, but she had to admit, the ones involving love were her favorites. She wasn’t someone who thought a lot about love within her own life, but, in the context of a fictional story, she found it fascinating and it gave her butterflies to read about. The feelings described by the writers were so real and while the Hufflepuff girl had never experienced them, she was sure that some humans had and that made her happy. Peyton added that it sounded like a nice night and Fiona shrugged again, “well, you’re welcome to join me if you want. If you finish your essay.” she insisted. Of course, reading and tea drinking was a very solo activity, but, company, at least in the form of someone that she liked, was alright.

‘ Oh, it’s nothing really, it’s this muggle novel about time travel. Two people of different times fall in love and it’s really cheesy.’Peyton laughed lightly and shook her head, “It doesn’t sound cheesy at all. My nose is always in a muggle book; I find them much more interesting,” she said with a smile as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. It was her father that had gotten her into reading, being raised by both a witch and a muggle, it meant that she had the best of both worlds, and the best of the muggle world was the books. While muggles didn’t know of magic or witches or the likes of the supernatural world, they did a pretty damn good job of writing about it. “It sounds like an interesting read, you’ll have to tell me how it ends,” she said with a smile. Knowing Peyton, she’d probably be reading that book next, once she found out the title. It was then that Fiona had welcomed her to join her, she smiled, “I don’t want to crash your alone time,” she said with a small, shy smile on her face. When Peyton wanted to be alone, she wanted to be alone. She didn’t want to butt into someone else’s alone time.

“Well I can let your borrow this one when I finish it, if you’re interested. I’ve got my eye on a fantasy about pirates next.” she admitted, hoping that Peyton didn’t think that Fiona was throwing the book onto her with no way to say no, that she wasn’t interested in reading it. Fiona often worried about these things, maybe that she was because of how she would have interpreted the words in a given situation. If someone offered to lend her a book, she would feel almost required to say yes, like saying no would be rude, but she knew that the person offering wouldn’t be offended if she did turn it down. It was all just a side effect of her anxiety.
Fiona’s offer for Peyton to join her was made in a similar style to her offering to let her borrow the book. She had meant it, but also didn’t want to impose herself into her roommates plans. Fiona liked Peyton, but Fiona was never quite sure who liked her and who was just pretending to be polite because they were in such close proximity currently. “Oh no it’s fine. I mean, reading is a fairly solo activity anyway, so if you wanted to come and read in the common room, you shouldn’t let me already there reading stop you.” she tried to explain, wondering if she was just making it more awkward.

‘Well I can let you borrow this one when I finish it, if you’re interested. I’ve got my eye on a fantasy about pirates next.‘Peyton smiled at the other blonde girl, “I would love that, thank you,” she said truthfully. Peyton had always loved to read, and the idea of being given another book to try out made her smile. “If you ever need a book to read, you are welcome to any in my collect. I tend to keep towards muggle fantasy,” she said with a smile. Most of her books, which she left in the chest at the foot of her bed, were carefully picked out by her from her father’s collection. Her father’s love to read brought itself into her mind. While she did like to read some of the books written by witches and wizards, she just loved the idea of muggle’s imaginations going wild into the world that they didn’t know existed. “Okay,” she said with a smile, “If you do not see it as me wiggling my way into your reading, I shall join you. Maybe it’ll be silent enough for the both of us,” she said with a smile on her face. She just seemed to be smiling a lot in this entire conversation, but it wasn’t forced. She liked Fiona; there was no doubt about it. Peyton liked anyone she met, there were only a few that rubbed her the wrong way, but even those numbers were slim.

“I do too.” Fiona admitted when her roommate said that she tended to keep towards muggle fantasy. She would read almost anything fiction, but fantasy was always the more fun genre. Real life fiction books were fun but always seemed to possess a more realistic quality that made them significantly less fun. However, she found that in fantasy books too, reading books about wizards and witches wasn’t quite as exciting now as it was when she didn’t know that they actually existed. The muggle child had fulfilled one of her wildest dreams when she stepped into the castle. It felt so much like stepping inside one of the fantasy books that graced her bookshelves at home. Fiona knew that everyone in her house were good people. But she felt like her roommates were particularly good individuals. She originally thought living with a set of triplets would be overwhelming, but they were easily seen as individuals rather than triplets and Fiona barely noticed they were sisters most of the time. “Yeah, again, it’s completely up to you. I’m sure it’ll be a boring night, but I like the boring nights.” she shrugged again. “So what are you going to do until dinner?” the girl asked her roommate.

Peyton smiled as Fiona told her that she enjoyed muggle fantasy as well, it was so weird to find another person that enjoyed the topic of books. Many people stayed away from muggle things unless they were muggleborn or half-bloods, but even then they rarely talked about it. Or at least, they rarely spoke about it around Peyton. While knowing that muggle fantasy books were based on slight truths of the magical world, it was interesting how they took their twist on things, making everyone equally entranced. Be it a story about a witch with demonic powers, or something along those lines; she still found it interesting. It was then that Fiona once again told her that it was up to her to join her during a boring night, and she smiled, but she continued to ask what she would be doing until dinner. “I was going to read a bit, but maybe starting my paper now would be better,” she said with a shrug of her shoulders, “I might be a bit too tired to write after getting my fill of warm food,” she added with a small laugh. It was the truth though; she always grew tired and mildly lazy after she had eaten a nice meal, it was the perfect time to cuddle up and read, possibly fall asleep to the words of the book lulling away within her imagination.

Peyton admitted that maybe starting her paper now would be better than waiting until after dinner and Fiona nodded, she found it impossible to do any work after dinner. Thus, she saved reading for pleasure until after dinner when she could grab her favorite throw blanket that her grandma had made for her, secure a cup of tea and place herself by the fire. She loved reading by firelight, even if it was bad for her eyes. She felt like that sort of environment helped her feel like she was actually in the story, especially if she was reading a medieval or renaissance story. When in doubt, she always reverted back to reading The Canterbury Tales, it was her favorite. “That might be a wise idea. I feel like leaving things to after dinner, for the most part, means they get left until tomorrow.” she gave a light laugh, just talking about herself more than her friend or anything. “And then if I leave things that I meant to get done, I can’t sleep, I just toss and turn thinking about them.” she admitted.

‘That might be a wise idea. I feel like leaving things to after dinner, for the most part, means they get left until tomorrow.’Peyton pondered over her words for a moment and found herself agreeing with it, for the most part. Where they were some days where she found, herself leaving things for after dinner and then falling asleep right after, there were other days where she had the energy to do the homework. At least she was one of the people that did it after dinner like she agreed to do or the next day, some people waited until the last minute to do something that they had weeks to prepare and work on. Peyton was never one of those girls; she was hardworking and determined to get good grades. She still didn’t know what she wanted to do with her life in the future, but she wanted to be prepared for when she did have to decide. “This is true,” she breathed out with a small smile, finally voicing her agreement to the other blonde. It was then that she listened to Fiona say that she wouldn’t be able to sleep if she didn’t do the assignment and get it done, and she frowned. That had never happened to her, the worst thing about that was that she was stressed the entire next day. “That’s horrible,” she said shaking her head, “I mostly just get unbearably stressed, but I’ve never tossed and turned.”

Fiona could understand her friends tendency to get stressed. Fiona’s stomach began to tightened just thinking about it. Thinking about being stressed gave her anxiety almost as much as being stressed did. Fiona had sometimes considered going to see the nurse for a potion to help calm her anxiety, but she never did. Going to see someone and to talk about the way that her anxiety made her feel, made her, ironically, even more anxious. There was no good way of going about it for the blonde, she’d rather just suffer in silence and do what she already knew would work to help her stay calm during times of intense anxiety. “It effects everyone differently.” she shrugged, not wanting to make her friend feel bad at all. Fiona wasn’t someone who liked being pitied. She wasn’t someone who got a lot of attention, but when she did it always seemed to be negative attention, it seemed to be people feeling sorry for her for some reason, or, it was from people making fun of her. Rarely was it just a nice person wanting to make conversation. She knew that Peyton had good intentions. “Hey - it looks like it's about time for dinner, you wannah walk down together?" she asked, taking Ginger out of her pocket and walking over the cage.
