He continued to insist that he would request her to make the other healers jealous. She laughed again, she couldn’t help it. It was such a silly statement that anyone would even feel jealous because a patient was requesting a certain healer. She had heard, over the years that they had avoided each other, that he had changed a little and was quite full of himself now. She hoped not, because she wasn’t sure she would be able to take him seriously if he was. And what had changed in his life to make him behave so differently. She wondered if something had happened with his father, or, if he was just growing up and discovering his true self, even if his true self was something other than what she knew him as. “I’m sure I’ll have to deal with worse. I wouldn’t worry about my emotional state.” she insisted after he said that he didn’t want her to have to deal with him if something big happened. However, she wasn’t sure if she even believed what she was saying. Fiona had always been a fairly emotional person. She was learning to suppress them a bit since she knew she would have to in her line of work, but, if she was operating on someone she cared about, it might be tough. She doubted that the hospital would let her do so.
Gilderoy admitted to having avoided her also. He hid from her. He hid from the little Hufflepuff girl who had ran out crying. He hadn’t come after her, as far as she knew, he could have, she supposed, and just never caught up with her. Maybe a question for another time. She shrugged when he said that they could have said something and avoided most of this. Maybe they could have, but, maybe they needed some time apart anyway, maybe they were getting to close. Maybe, at the time, there was a reason that she didn’t object to kissing him. “Well, without drama it’s a lot easier to focus on school.” she suggested. “I can’t tell you how many books I’ve read over the past few years while avoiding you.” she teased. Of course, she had read plenty of books while they were friends too. She had always been a reader.

Fiona commented that she would have to deal with worse than having a friend as a patient which he was sure was true. He wasn't going to openly list them as he didn't feel like both making that list or putting those thought in her mind. Still someone passing away under a healers watch was bound to be worse than healing a friend or someone they knew. "I'm sure you will too but I don't need to contribute to it." Gilderoy replied with a smile as he still wouldn't want to add that pressure on a friend, or he supposed someone who was a friend. He wasn't sure what they really counted as but that didn't change how he felt. At the same time if he was going to the Hospital he doubted he would have the time or be aware enough to pick who his healer was.
He laughed as Fiona found the bright side of them having avoided each other. Focusing on school he could understand but having the chance to read just a couple more books because he wasn't around didn't seem worth the avoiding. Still he was aware she was just having some fun and he was glad for that, maybe they would never go back to being what they were but at least they could hold a friendly conversation and he'd take that for now. "Well excuuuse me, I wasn't aware I had been digging into your reading time so much." Gilderoy teased right back putting emphasis on the excuse me part both for laughs and to show he was just kidding as well. "Besides you were always good at reading books when I was around anyway." It was true, she always had a book of some sort on her, even now he found her while she was reading yet another book alone.

While it was still a little difficult to look at him without finding herself slip into a place of feeling upset, she was beginning to enjoy talking to him again. It seemed as though nothing had changed. Nothing had ever happened between the two of them and they had just been friends this whole time. He was the best friend that she had ever had. Raina was close, the two of them got along really well and enjoyed each other company, however, no one understood her quite like Gilderoy had. She had come to feel comfortable around the man and had truly been able to come out of her shell and feel... outgoing. Something she hadn't experienced since that night in the room of requirement.
She nodded when he said he didn't need to contribute to any difficulties in the workplace for her. It was sweet, she guessed. But she wasn't sure how to continue the conversation so she let that particular one die. She laughed when he said exactly what she was thinking. It was so easy to talk to him, she had forgot. "What can I say? It's a thrill." She joked with a shrug and a wrinkle of her nose. "But uh... I've heard you've been... busy." she said, not entirely sure how to, or even if to, bring up the rumors she had heard about him and the various girls around the castle.

Gilderoy laughed as Fiona commented about her reading being a thrill. He wasn't going to argue that, he loved a good book but the studying did get a bit tedious at times. Yet studying was a must even more so than maybe some other students. Not because he himself needed it more than others but because he wanted to stay ahead of the curve. It was far easier to be impressive and show off if you were ahead of the rest of the class when it came to the subject at hand. "If I didn't know you I'd almost feel insulted I have to fight for your attention with some books." Gilderoy joked back, he could only hope they passed a little bit of the awkwardness between them as he could joke freely with Fiona once more. "Since it is you after all I'll take it as a compliment I get any attention at all compared to whatever book you were carrying that day."
He had forgotten how fun it was to be around Fiona or more so maybe he chose not to think about it. They had been avoiding each other after what happened, thinking of her more often would have just have made Gilderoy miss her more than he already had. He smirked slightly as Fiona brought up hearing that he had been busy. What she meant by busy could be taken a number of ways. Still while some might have been embarrassed by rumors of themselves he enjoyed them, as long at they were good ones. "In some cases rumors about m might be a little exaggerated. What did I do this time?" Gilderoy laughed as he asked her. It was always interesting to hear just how much was true or made up about something he had done. With most cases he didn't bother correcting the person either, letting them be free to believe whatever they wanted.
" I haven't heard much about you though which can only mean you're far better at keeping the crazy things you do a secret." Gilderoy teased her just slightly as he was only kidding, if Fiona was the same as before he knew she liked to keep to herself most times. Finding her out here alone he could only assume that hadn't changed.

She looked back down at her feet when he said that he would almost be insulted that he had to fight for her attention, to which, she shook her head. "You never had to fight for my attention." she admitted, something that she never thought that she would have to say to him. He always had her attention. Fiona wasn't a girl who needed to be whooed by her friends. She was loyal, she had no reason not to be, and she valued people so she always made sure that they were her main focus when they were around. Too many people forgot she existed, or zoned out while she spoke, which didn't do great things for her already anxious mind. So, he tried her best to make sure that no one ever felt that way around her. But it was always easy with Gilderoy, he entertained her and everything he said interested her. Even if she was reading while they were together, she always kept one ear open just in case he got bored and needed to talk.
He clarified that sometimes rumors were just rumors, that they were, like the rumors that went around about the two of them. However, she had been hearing the same things from so many people that she had to believe them, at least to certain experts. "Well that you're...busy. That you like to... entertain... women primarily, I think." she was too polite to say what she wanted to say. What she had been hearing. She kind of hoped that they weren't true. She still felt a sort of bond with the boy sitting next to her and she didn't necessarily want to share her friend with others. Thinking that now made her feel awful, they weren't even friends now, were they? She shouldn't feel protective... or... possessive. She just didn't want him to have changed. She didn't want to believe that it could be true. "Oh yeah, crazy. One time, the professor in Herbology asked someone to answer a question and my hand was the first in the air. Whooo was that a rush. People were talking about that for weeks." she rolled her eyes.

He just smiled as Fiona said he never had to fight for her attention. This always did seem to be true, even when reading she had a way of still paying attention to what he had been saying. He had long stopped asking back then what he had said to her as a test to see if she was listing and she could always repeat it. There was also a Gilderoy style response in his head, something along the lines that of course he didn't have to fight for her attention. Yet Fiona knew him well before he was so sure of himself, before he had found the self confidence to be who he was today. He had her attention back then not because of who he was but because they were friends, in those days she was his best friend. Even now he didn't consider anyone as close as she had been. "That was always a relief, not only would I have to be more entertaining I'd also have to keep going longer. We both know how quickly you can get through a book."
So she had heard of that, his small smirk still in place but somehow somewhere Gilderoy found a little bit of embarrassment in him. He didn't regret a thing he had done but finding out that Fiona knew of it he just couldn't figure out how he felt about that. With everyone else he hadn't cared one bit. Yet here he was unsure why he wished Fiona hadn't heard about those rumors. Why though was a question he didn't really have the answer for right now. "I'm sure there is some exaggerations but they aren't completely untrue." Gilderoy finally answered with a small shrug, he wasn't about to lie to Fiona about it but that still didn't mean he was happy she had heard of it. He couldn't help but laugh as Fiona went on about the crazy things she had been up too. "So dangerous, I can't believe I didn't hear about that. The girl who raised her hand in class." Gilderoy teased her a little as that did sound like her, "better be careful raising your hand and answering all those questions, I've been know to fall for bad girls."

For a while during this conversation, Fiona had a lot of hope. Maybe Gilderoy was still the same, maybe they would be able to just fall back into their old patterns and relationships. Maybe none of the past few years will have counted and this moment would mark the ending of the awkward period and life would just continue like normal but better because she’d have him back. She did miss him. She missed him a lot. She just rolled her eyes when he said that he would have had to be even more entertaining if she stopped paying him attention. To her, it seemed almost like a threat, a threat made in jest since nothing about his threat would hurt anyone, but seeing him have to go above and beyond to get her attention distressed her. She didn’t like people who did that, she thought people who had to try too hard were normally quite fake. She got on best with people who were normal and didn’t act out for attention.
The rumors weren’t untrue, he told her. That gave her an odd feeling in her stomach. He had changed. Had he changed? He hadn’t always been that way... had he? “So do you have a girlfriend then? Or…” she asked, not sure if maybe he had chosen one, or if he was content with the multiple. She knew that girls liked him. They had always liked him. Even when they were young and before the incident with them had happened, she would hear people talking and giggling, she just didn’t care. She heard it a lot more now, and maybe she cared? It just caught her off guard. She never felt protective of him back then because she didn’t really think he was interested. But now, maybe she felt protective? He teased her about being a bad girl and how he often fell for bad girls and she rolled her eyes for real. “Ha. Ha. Very funny.” she scoffed. “You know better than to try that…” she insisted.

Fiona asked if he had a girlfriend or but after that she stopped. Gilderoy was well aware of what she was getting at though. It wasn't like he thought about it himself, having a girlfriend and not just having fun with whatever girl he was with. It just never happened for one reason or another. Either the girl who he would consider it with just wanted to have fun or the girls that wanted to be in a relationship with him didn't seem worth it besides just enjoying their company from time to time. This continued till it was just what his life had become at school. Gilderoy just smirked as he attempted to explain to Fiona in some way which didn't sound terrible. "Or." He just replied picking the second option she said before going into more detail. "It's not like I'm opposed to the idea it just never happened. So I've just been doing what feel right till it does, if it ever does." That explanation would do, it was weird how with most people he was just fine explaining it but with Fiona he wanted even more so for it to make sense and not make him look bad.
"What about you? Anyone trying to steal you way from your books?" Gilderoy asked genuinely curious what her life had been like while they were apart. He laughed a little as she rolled her eye, he was used to that response, not just from Fiona but from a lot of people. She was right he did know better than that as this point. "This is true, last time we ended up avoiding each other...." with that it was awkward all over again, at least for him. Where was smooth Gilderoy? The one that always said the right thing, did the right thing and impressed people. No he was awkward, a little nervous and it just felt off instead especially after saying that. "Well.. I should get going, I got some classwork to finish before I forget. Let you get back to your book." Gilderoy spoke finally done cursing at himself in his head for bringing that back up. It was a weak reason to go but it wasn't a totally excuse, he did have classwork to finish even if he could get it done later if he wanted to.
Gilderoy got up from his seat, he didn't really want to go after finally talking to Fiona after so long. Yet he didn't need to ruin this anymore than he just felt like he had. He smiled before walking away making his way toward the exit. "Hey Fi," Gilderoy paused as he stopped walking and turned back to Fiona, he hadn't even meant to use her nickname it just came out. "This was fun, a little weird but...still fun." Yeah weird was the word to use when talking finally talking to someone after almost two years. "I miss being around you is all and..... well that's all." Lacking the words he wanted to say was also a new feeling, one he hadn't felt for sometime. With that he just waved and left the bleachers to spend the rest of the day kicking himself for not saying or doing the right thing here.

He explained this situation and she nodded. It did make sense, and she was just being curious. Plus, since they hadn’t really spoken for well over a year, she didn’t expect a real, honest, deep answer. He didn’t owe anything to her, but she was glad that he told her anyway. So, some of the rumors were true at least. He had changed, or maybe he had just grown up. She still felt like exactly the same girl she had been when they were still friends whereas he seemed so different. She wasn’t the same though. She was a lot more shut off, she had reverted back into her shell, something he had done so well at getting her out of over the course of their friendship. “No. No one for me.” she insisted. It was true. She still hadn’t kissed anyone except for the boy currently sitting next to her. After a little joke, he determined that it was time for him to go, something that Fiona was slightly relieved by. She was just feeling very odd and wanted to be able to think about this encounter a breath again. She felt like she had been forgetting to breath this entire time. “Yeah okay.” she nodded. He stood up as if ready to leave, but then hung around for another moment. She looked up at him when he called her Fi. It was so familiar to hear that come from his voice that it left an imprint on her, something that she had once been so comfortable with. He was so sweet, maybe he hadn’t changed. Maybe there was still hope that one day they could get that friendship back. “Yeah, I get it. I’ll uh, I’ll see you around, Lockhart.” she promised before watching him walk away, and returning, slightly more distracted, to her novel.
