Evelyn was tired. She had a long training session earlier in the day and she didn't get lots of sleep last night. Of course, that made her feel more exhausted than the hard workout would. Sleep was still a bit of a struggle for her. It wasn't as bad as it once was, right after the accident where everything went completely wrong. Things were getting better, little by little, day by day, but Ev still wasn't the same person she used to be. She was never one to go out and get crazy with people or attend lots of parties, but before her accident she was trying to open up to people and make friends. Now she was struggling with that once more. She seriously damaged her friendship with Dustin, butchered her relationship with Rocco and now she was fighting to find a desire to try and reach out or even open up to someone new. It was a serious struggle.
Today was no different than the others. She couldn't reach out to the other people around her in the Leaky Cauldron. She hardly looked up from her bowl of soup that she ordered. Once it was gone she'd go home and watch a movie or try to go to sleep. Wow, her life was so exciting.

Eleanor was feeling nostalgic today. Now that the Triwizard Tournament was nearing its’ end, their team had started discussing transportation to Hogwarts to send off the international students as they went back to Beauxbatons and Durmstrang to take their final examinations. Eleanor hadn’t been back to Hogwarts since she had graduated; she had helped organize all three tasks, but since she was not a judge or a department head, she was not invited to view the tasks. She had protested originally, but her boss explained to her that it was due to the tightened security at school. Elaine Dupree was still at large, with no good leads as to her whereabouts. They had to be careful, and Eleanor understood that. As a Muggleborn, she would likely be a target of Dupree’s, and she didn’t fancy facing the dark witch; she’d leave that to the Aurors. Eleanor decided to take her lunch at the Leaky Cauldron; it was the first magical place she had visited when she was eleven years old after finding out she was a witch. Diagon Alley held more magical items yes, but the Cauldron had self-stirring cauldrons of soup, bartenders pouring drinks with no hands, and busboys cleaning tables magically. It had all been rather fascinating to young Ella. She walked into the Cauldron with a happy smile on her face, and took a seat at the bar next to a girl nursing a bowl of soup. “Steak and ale pie please,” she chirped. She glanced over at the girl next to her and a glimmer of recognition crossed over her face. “Evelyn?” she asked; she couldn’t remember the last time she had seen her former dormmate. Probably at graduation. “It’s Eleanor, Ella. From Hogwarts?” she clarified, just in case Evelyn forgot who she was. @evelyn

Evelyn definitely did not expect someone to come up and sit beside her, but when someone sat down, she ignored them. She wasn't going to reach out to people right now. She was almost ready to go home and be boring until she forced herself to go to bed. Then the person said her name. Ev slowly lifted her gaze from her soup and turned to face the girl next to her. She looked vaguely familiar and Ev found herself racking her brains, trying to figure out where she knew this girl from. Then she introduced herself and Ev forced a smile, "Oh, hi Ella," she said with a smile. She vaguely was starting to remember this girl. They ... were in the same house. Shared a dorm? When in school, Ev literally was a hermit. She didn't talk to anyone outside of the Quidditch team- or make any friends. The only thing she did at school was her homework and extra studying, learning as much about magic as she possibly could. "How have you been?" she asked, trying to keep her tone positive, though she doubted it sounded that way. That was fine. If Ella asked, she'd blame it on a lack of sleep ... or on the hard practice. Either should be a decent excuse.

Eleanor could tell that Evelyn was having some trouble placing her; normally that sort of thing would be a spot of bother for the Ravenclaw alumni, but she knew Evelyn too well to be offended. Ev had been far more of a recluse, a hermit even, when they had been in school together. She saw the girl at meals, sometimes, and before she’d go to bed for a brief moment before Evelyn shut herself behind the curtains. Besides, she was so busy with Cyrus from third year on that she had only really communicated with Callisto due to their unyielding frenemy status. Perhaps some people would call her boy crazy, but at least she was only crazy about one boy in particular. There had been Nate she supposed, but looking back at their year long relationship, it had been more about craving the comfort she had lost when Cyrus and she split up.
That made her remember Evelyn’s current occupation; Beater for the Falmouth Falcons. “How are the Falcons doing? I know you can’t go into too much detail, but I’ll be at the Arrows-Falcons game next month!” she asked with a smile. “I work in Magical Games and Sports, so I tend to end up at a lot of games for my job. The Arrows though well...Cyrus and I got back together a few months ago so I have to support him. My apologies in advance,” she added with a small giggle. Eleanors’ food came then and she took a dainty bite of her pie, waiting for Evelyn to respond.

Evelyn gave a small smile when Ella asked about the Falcons. Of course the other girl would know what Ev was doing. She was an outgoing person, if Ev remembered right. "We're good," she said with a smile. "Getting ready for our next few games, but things are going well." Which was good. Quidditch was the one thing in Ev's life right now that really made sense, so she was glad for the distraction it brought her. Ev shrugged when Ella started apologizing because she'd be supporting her boyfriend. "No problem. I definitely understand." Her own ex-fiance used to be a part of that team, but .... he wasn't anymore, so that was a sort of relief to her. "No hard feelings," she confirmed easily.

Eleanor smiled. “Good! Cyrus has always spoken very highly of Yadiel, and the few times I’ve met him he seemed like a very amicable man. Good choice for a Captain,” she complimented. Her job brought her to many games, and many pre and post game meetings, where she had met the Falcons captain on several occasions. Something she liked about Quidditch players was that they were hardly ever arrogant; some of the football players on Arsenal could use a lesson or two on etiquette from them in her own personal opinion. “You play….Chase..no! Beater, I remember now,” she exclaimed, snapping her fingers together as she remembered. Granted, Ella had always been more focused on a certain brown haired Slytherin during Quidditch matches, but she mostly knew the Ravenclaw house team. “I er…”
Ella paused, unsure how to bring the next topic up; Evelyns’ fall from last season. Everyone had heard about it, at least anyone who cared even the slightest for Quidditch. Eleanor hadn’t been sure how to reach Ev to send her best wishes, but she supposed it was better late than ever. “I heard about your fall. How was your recovery?” she finally asked, quickly taking a sip of her drink after the words left her lips. She wasn’t entirely sure if the woman would feel comfortable speaking about it, but she supposed she’d wait and see.

Ev smiled when Ella started complimenting Yadiel. "Yes, he's an amazing captain. He cares about the game, but he also cares for each of us," she answered. He and Dustin were the reason she loved the team so and her respect for her captain doubled the last few months, with how often he was there to support her during her struggles. She knew that he cared about her, and not just because he wanted her to play well. She nodded as the other girl remembered her position. "Yeah, I'm a beater," Ev confirmed, just in case her nod wasn't enough.
Then Ella seemed to want to talk about something, but hesitated. Ev waited patiently, curious about what she would want to talk about next. She wasn't expecting her to bring up the accident. Ev froze, not even breathing as the memory of that days and the subsequent ones flashed through her mind. Rocco. Dustin. In all actuality the injury wasn't terrible and hadn't stopped her from playing, but the loss of her fiance and the division between her and her best friend still hurt, but the other girl wasn't asking about that. She asked about the recovery. Evelyn forced herself to smile and breathe, shrugging like it was no big deal. "Oh, the healers worked on me and I was back to normal in a week," she answered, quite proud of herself for keeping her emotions under such good control.

Eleanor was glad to hear that her initial thoughts on Yadiel were correct. Sure, was he the best player that the game of Quidditch had ever seen? Probably not, but one didn’t have to be the best of the best to make captain. It took sportsmanship, camaraderie, and empathy, the ability to make your team WANT to do well and want to win together. The fact that the Falcons had done well last season had shown that Yadiel was the right pick for the direction the team wanted to go in. “I always imagined what it’d be like to play Quidditch, if I had the coordination on a broomstick that I was not blessed with,” Eleanor mused with a giggle. “I feel like Beater could be fun, especially if you have to get out some frustrations. Hitting something does that for me. That’s why I took up kickboxing,” Ella commented. That reminded her, her next session was this evening after work. She was thankful her schedule had eased up so she could get back into the practice, and lately she hadn’t envisioned hitting Nate’s face instead of the air during class. She’d call that progress.
Evelyn did not seem to want to talk much about her injury; Ella saw the flash of emotions cross over her face before she gave a standard ‘no further comment’ answer. She didn’t know why it was such a sensitive topic seeing as the Falcon had made a full recovery, but she obviously didn’t claim to know every detail of what had happened. Perhaps...perhaps some romantic drama? But Evelyn hadn’t really gotten out much when they were at school. Ella hoped at least that had changed since graduation. “Well, good. I’m glad you were able to recover,” she said kindly, taking another sip of her drink. “So what else is new? What do you do for fun?” she asked, curious to see if her intuition was anywhere near correct.

Ev smiled and gave a hesitant laugh when Ella started describing how she used to imagine playing Quidditch, admitting that being a Beater sounded like fun. "It is," she agreed. "I mean, it's nice for when I'm angry and need to get that out, but it also takes a lot more precision than people realize. It's fun to be able to take people by surprise by your accuracy." Which was one of the reasons Ev went pro. She had really good aim as a Beater and almost always hit her target. "Kickboxing? So between us, you can take out the people on the ground and I can take out the people in the air?" Seemed like a reasonable comparison to Ev, but then again she was probably being weird. Oh well. It wasn't like she could hide that for long. After living with her several years, Ella probably knew all about it.
The girl offered that she was glad Evelyn recovered from her injury and Ev smiled and nodded, "Thanks. It was definitely annoying to be out for a bit. I'm glad to be back now." Then she asked what Ev did for fun. Ugh, Evelyn hated this question! She was not one of those people that was a lot of fun to be around and often went out doing things. She studied books and went to practice and on walks. That was about as exciting as her life was, now. A few months ago things were different, but not anymore. She shrugged, "Not much is new with me. I mostly just read books and go on long walks, when I'm not at practice," she admitted. Wow. Could she sound more lame?

Eleanor nodded, listening with interest as Evelyn explained what it took to be a Beater. It was always best to hear it coming from a true players’ perspective after all, and it gave her more insider knowledge on the different positions. She knew Keeper in her sleep of course, but all the others she could use a refresher course on. Of course her job was more on the back end and logistics of everything, but still. The accuracy comment made sense though; a Beater didn’t want to seriously injure anyone on purpose, just knock the Quaffle out of their hands, and that would take some set of skills. Eleanor laughed. “Oh yes, we’d make a pretty spectacular fighting duo,” she agreed with a smile.
“I can only imagine,” Ella agreed, laughing a little. “I remember when we were sixteen and Cyrus was injured and he just...oh he refused to stay in bed. He had a broken leg and a minor concussion but it didn’t matter to him - his team needed him!” she recalled, shaking her head at his ridiculousness. She had to admit, she wasn’t entirely surprised when Evelyn admitted she read books and walked a lot while not at practice. She had been a bit of a shut-in at school after all. “Well, why don’t you come try kickboxing with me? It’s this afternoon, are you free?” she suggested. “First class is free,” she added as an additional incentive.

Evelyn smiled when the other girl laughed at her joke. She actually made a good one! Or Ella was laughing just to be nice ... but it didn't seem like that. Ev felt proud of herself for actually having a decent, real conversation with someone. Good job her! She nodded, "We'll have to keep that in mind if any fights break out near us, when both a broom and a bludger are present," she joked again, laughing a little. Wow, this wasn't a common attitude for her to be in. Especially lately.
Ella recalled what happened when her boyfriend broke his leg and still went to work with his team. She nodded, "That's what it takes," she said, completely in agreement with the other boy. The only reason she took as long of a break as she did after her accident was because Yadiel told her to. If given the choice, she definitely would have come back sooner, even as emotionally broken as she was. Then Ella suggested Ev try kickboxing and the thought for a moment. "Alright, that sounds like fun," Ev answered. "When and where? And do I need to bring anything?" She asked. If Ev was going to try something new out, she wanted to make sure she was prepared for it.

Eleanor laughed again at Evelyn’s quip. “We should keep a bat handy at all times then,” she said, and the idea made her dissolve in a fit of giggles. She honestly wasn’t quite sure why she found it so funny, but that made her laugh even harder. “Sorry, I don’t know why I can’t stop!” she gasped, fanning her hand in front of her as tears of mirth slid down her face. She took a few large gulpes of a glass of water the bartender placed in front of her before deeming it safe to speak again. “Thanks, I needed that laugh,” she admitted. “This past year has been...very stressful with planning the Triwizard Tournament with my ex boyfriend. He was planning on proposing to me, after just a year of dating! But I ran into Cyrus a week before it happened and I realized exactly what I was missing in my life. So I turned him down,” Eleanor sighed. “I felt really bad, but Nate - that’s my ex - has been nothing but a terror since then. Now that the Tournament is over I can finally just act normal.”
Ella wasn’t really sure why she was telling Evelyn this much - it’s not like they had been all that close in school. But she was quiet, and understood why discretion was sometimes necessary. Nobody had known about her and the Puddlemere Seeker until her accident, and she highly doubted it had just started if they were engaged already. She wasn’t about to bring that mess up though. “I have a kickboxing class tomorrow evening at seven. Down the street from here actually in Covent Garden,” Eleanor explained by means of changing the subject. “It’d be a lot of fun if you came,” she added, driving the point home.

Evelyn shrugged, glad that she made Ella laugh even if she didn't show it. "I guess I should stick one in my bag then," she added on, teasing still. Her bag did have an undetectable extension charm, so it would be possible, she just never thought of that before. She wasn't sure if she was going to do it either. She was just kidding, right? Then she noticed that Ella was laughing outrageously. A smile flickered on the corner of Ev's lips and after a few seconds she found herself chuckling softly. It wasn't too long before the girl drank some water and had her laughter under control. Ev still chuckled softly. Ev's eyes widened as Ella explained why she needed a bit of laughter in her life. Ev could use that as well, but she didn't say anything. "Well I'm glad you can finally relax," Evelyn answered softly. She couldn't imagine the torture it would be to have to work with Rocco every day, knowing things would never work between them. She would have died. "I- I think I might be able to understand how hard that must have been. A little, at least," Ev spoke without meaning to and her eyes widened when she realized what she'd done. She didn't want Ella to think she was downplaying how hard that must have been or comething.
Ev nodded as she started to explain more about her kickboxing class. "Maybe I'll see you there," Ev answered, actually warming up to the idea the more she thought about it. Maybe it would help her make better friends with Ella and maybe with others. She needed to be more social and get to know others. "I think I probably will," she answered, when Ella added that it would be fun if she came. She felt a twinge of anxiety in her stomach at the thought, but she wanted to go. So she would try to.

Ella laughed at Evelyn’s comment. “Sounds good, anyone trying to mug us will wish they ran the other way,” she declared, grinning widely. She inclined her head at the woman’s next words, showing that she was grateful for them. She knew that most people wouldn’t really understand her situation, with the exception of someone like Ev. She had read the tabloids of course, and there was always Quidditch gossip around her office - it was almost a rite of passage for them. She knew her and Rocco had been engaged for some time before parting ways. She was fortunate though at least Rocco wasn’t on the Falcons with her - she just had to play against him during matches. “Have you ever thought of….’accidentally’ swinging a Bludger towards him during a game?” Ella commented, smirking a little. If she could get away with it, she probably would have done the same to Nate - more than once.
Eleanor looked determined. “Your first class is on me, so I better see you there!” she exclaimed. She checked her watch and sighed out of frustration. “Ugh, I have to go back to work. I will meet you back here at five, don’t be late,” she told her, wagging a finger at her. She waved and tossed some coins to cover her meal and drink before flouncing out of the pub, excited to have a potential new kickboxing partner in Evelyn.

Ev nodded as Ella agreed. She didn't really feel like there was much more to be said about that, but she was glad that the conversation seemed kind of natural between them. Almost like it had been between her and Dustin months ago, before everything went wrong. She pulled herself back to the conversation at hand, not wanting to get distracted by the memories and feelings. Now was not the time for that. Especially since the two of them were reconnecting for the first time in a long time. She chuckled softly at Ella's suggestion. "Thought about it, but I can't. He left the country and quit his team. He doesn't play anymore," she frowned as she remembered how she found out that he left, through the paper. He went to live with his family or something, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt. Ev still missed him. Ev nodded when Ella said she'd better see her there, before realizing she had to leave. "Right, here at five. I can do that," Evelyn agreed, watching as her former dormmate left. This was a good thing. --- time jump! --- Later that evening, at four fifty-five, Evelyn found herself standing outside the pub where met with Ella earlier. She wasn't exactly sure how kickboxing was going to go, but it was different and she had a feeling it would be good for her. At least, it'd be better than just wandering around outside until it got cold enough she had to go home. Really, Ev needed to get a life ... and friends. That was part of the reason she decided to come. She waited, looking from side to side impatiently for Ella. She was going to come back here for Ev, right? @eleanor
