Emmy was more excited for the day than she probably should have let on. Ever since discovering Rory was a wizard, like she was a witch, she had been thinking about all the different magical things they could do together – but then she remembered they were both still born Muggles too, and when they were younger they had always talked about the things they were going to do when they got older. They hadn’t had time to do half of them because of her moving away, but now that they were reunited, there was no time like the present. Emmy had gotten two tickets to the local planetarium, and was excited to meet Rory there. She hadn’t exactly had a fascination with the stars themselves, but rather with the infinite possibilities they held, and the stories scattered among them. Getting to see a planetarium show was on her eons-long bucket-list, and she could think of no better person to share it with than her best friend. Emmy waited outside the entrance to the place, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she scanned the crowd for any signs of Rory.

When Emmy invited him to come to the planetarium with her, Rory couldn’t help but be more than a little excited. They always talked about going here when they were younger but didn’t have the chance before she moved away. Now that she was back, Rory honestly just wanted to spend most of his time with her, but was trying to take it easy. Sure, they’d been best friends for most of their lives but that didn’t mean he wanted to freak her out. After all, maybe they’d changed over the last few years. Rory hoped not.
So he walked up to the outside where they were supposed to meet, smiling when he saw the familiar read hair. ”Hey Emmy,” he greeted with a wide smile.

The bad thing about Rory was that, for all of his amazing qualities, he wasn’t all that distinctive. Even trying her best to pick him out of the crowd, Emmy didn’t see him until he was nearly upon her. She felt her stomach sink a little bit, mostly because she expected better of herself – she expected to be able to find her best friend without even trying. He greeted her with a smile, and Emmy didn’t even bother to so much as wave at him before thrusting his ticket in his direction. “Come on!” She demanded, grabbing for his hand. “The show doesn’t start for another half an hour, but I want to get the best spot.” The planetarium was really just a dome with a plushy carpet spread beneath it. There were a few seats on the outer rim, but it was more expected that people would lie down and look up at the sky as if they were in the countryside stargazing. They wanted to make the synthetic experience as good as the authentic one, and Emmy wanted it to be good, too – which meant laying smack-dab in the middle of the planetarium was an absolute must.

When she saw him, Emmy was giving him his ticket and grabbing his hand, insisting that they go in right now. He laughed and followed her lead, nodding as she explained herself. He knew this was important to her, it was something she'd always wanted to do after all, so he was going to let her lead. "With you in charge, I'm sure we'll get a great spot," he teased. As they entered, he looked around curiously. This was his first time in a planetarium, so Rory was paying attention to the details, wanting to learn as much as he could about it even before the show started. He followed her to the middle, looking around with a smile. "So is this good enough for you?" he teased, looking around.

Emmy rolled her eyes at Rory when he said that they were sure to get a good spot with her in charge. She knew that she could be bossy sometimes, which was why she didn’t deny what Rory said, but really, even if he was the one in charge they’d find something. Rory had a habit of being so nice to people that they couldn’t say no to him, which Emmy found equal parts fascinating and strange. When they entered the planetarium, Rory looked around as if they were in a whole new world – and in a way, they were. The lighting was low even though the show hadn’t started yet, and the dome stretched above them in an endless sea of white fabric. It took Emmy a moment to determine where the exact middle of the room was, but once she did, she plopped down. “This will suit me just fine.” She said, flopping backwards so she was staring up at the empty ceiling.

Emmy looked around the room, just like he did and Rory couldn't help but wonder if she was as awed by the whole thing as he was. Probably not. She tended to be a bit more composed than he was. At least, she seemed more composed from his point of view. That could be a facade though. He wouldn't know. He followed her to the middle of the room and then grinned as he watched her choose their spot. Rory sat down beside her and then leaned back slowly until he was looking up at the ceiling. He found himself getting more and more excited the longer they sat there. They'd talked about doing this for ages. "How long until this is going to start?" he asked softly, not wanting to interrupt anyone that might be near. There were other whispered conversations nearby. "And how have you been? I haven't seen you for a bit ..." That was probably his fault. Rory wanted to see her more, but he was nervous about ... actually he didn't know why he was nervous, but he was. Hopefully spending more time with Emmy would help with the nerves.

Emmy hadn’t thought to look at the time when she had come into the planetarium, and she hadn’t thought to bring a watch with her, so she didn’t have a clue how long it would be until the show started. “They always run late.” She said in lieu of an actual answer. Emmy shrugged when Rory asked how she had been. “Busy, I guess.” It was hard to explain just how busy she was, because it wasn’t that there was a lot to do – it just so happened that everything that needed doing had a deadline, and the amount of deadlines had started to overwhelm Emmy more than she cared to admit. She didn’t like being overwhelmed, and she liked even less to admit that she was feeling that way. “My book is set to be released this summer, though, so at least I’ve gotten something out of it all.” One of the reasons that Emmy hadn’t yet gone insane was that all of her whirlwind work led to a final product that she could actually show off – tangible proof that she had done something in all of the hours that she had spent locked in a room, alone.

Emmy answered his question, saying that they were always late. Rory grinned at that answer. If she'd never been to one of these, how would she know that? He didn't challenge her though. He didn't really care that much about it. "Good to know," he commented, mostly just to answer her somehow, not because he really wanted to say anything. He nodded when she said she was busy. "That makes two of us. There's lots to do for the hospital right now." Emmy commented about how her book was going to be released in the summer and he turned his head to look at her, his smile wide. "That's great, Emmy! Are you excited?" He wasn't sure if she would be. Maybe the novelty of publishing books wore out after the first few. "What's it about?"

Emmy frowned a little when Rory said there was a lot to do at the hospital. A busy hospital was never a good thing, as far as Emmy was concerned – unless, of course, someone worked in the maternity department, but Emmy was pretty sure that was not Rory’s area of expertise. Rory asked about her book, and Emmy smiled. “I am excited, yes.” Publishing a new book, and getting the reactions from the fans, was always an exhilarating experience. She was more evasive when it came to what the book was about, though. “I could tell you that, but then I’d have to kill you.” Emmy said, keeping a straight face for just a moment before cracking a smile. “I really can’t say. It’s supposed to be a secret or something.” She shrugged. She didn’t see the point in keeping the plot of her book a secret, especially since bits of it had already been announced in various places and an endeavoring fan could probably determine at least some of the plot from the various fragments. “I can tell you, however, that it is a mystery.” Emmy teased. She was a mystery writer, after all, and she didn’t intend on changing genres anytime soon.

Rory turned his head to watch her friend and noticed her frown when he mentioned how busy the hospital was. He could imagine why and wasn't surprised at her reaction, but he didn't say anything. Really, while Rory loved his work and helping people, talking about it could sometimes be quite depressing. He much preferred to simply let the conversation go elsewhere. He smiled when she did, talking about her new book and then rolled her eyes when she mentioned having to kill him if she told him about it. She continued on about it and Rory groaned. "Fine, don't tell me! Keep your mysterious books a mystery and I'll find out about them just like everyone else, when they come out." He was teasing her, but he also wasn't trying to make it obvious, curious if she'd know that or what. He narrowed his eyes at her. "What are the perks to having your best friend be a famous author if they can't even tell you things?" he asked, trying to get a rise out of her. Did lots of people try to get her to tell them about her books? Rory couldn't help but be curious. He'd never seriously push, but a part of him was curious if they were good enough friends for her to make an exception. Ha. Probably not. Emmy was good and stubborn and wouldn't do anything she didn't want to, he knew.

Rory said that she could keep her mysterious books a mystery, and Emmy just laughed, loud enough that a few of the other patrons in the planetarium looked over at her curiously. Emmy didn’t mind people looking at her, though – especially not because she was laughing. Laughing was a good thing, people! “If it makes you feel any better, I can get you a copy of the book the day it comes out. And you won’t have to wait in line.” Emmy said. They were doing the whole midnight release thing, with people waiting in lines to be the first to get the book and everything. Emmy thought that was quite a bit of unnecessary hype, but apparently hype was the newest thing to get a book off the shelves. Rory asked what the perks to being best friends with a famous author if she couldn’t even tell him anything, and Emmy rolled her eyes again. “You mean my friendship isn’t enough for you already?” Emmy asked. “I wasn’t aware that I needed to keep coming up with new perks to keep your attention.” She said, poking Rory in the ribs when she was done speaking.

He noticed other people looking at them, but Rory didn't really care. He just wanted to spend time with Emmy, so since that was happening he was content. He chuckled when she said she'd get him a copy of the book without him having to wait in line. "Will it be a signed copy?" he asked curiously, unable to keep himself from smirking. He honestly wasn't super concerned about getting a signed copy, but he wanted to tease Emmy if he could. She normally didn't give in to his teasing though, always having the perfect comeback, so he waited for that now. She rolled her eyes at his teasing and Rory chuckled yet again. Man, he forgot how happy being with Emmy made him feel. "Of course your friendship is enough," he finally stopped teasing. "I just couldn't help but tease you." He was sure she knew that, but he didn't retaliate when she poked him. He did deserve it, after all, since he started it.

Rory asked if his copy would be a signed one, and Emmy reached over to punch him in the arm. It looked like a playful punch, but probably didn’t feel like one. “I’ll sign the copy if you stop being such a numpty.” Emmy said. That was code for the copy not being sign, since Rory was a numpty one hundred percent of the time. He just happened to be a numpty that she liked quite a lot. Rory went on to say that her friendship was definitely enough for him. If he had been anyone else, Emmy probably wouldn’t have believed him, but he was Rory. If she couldn’t believe him when he said he was just her friend to be her friend, then she couldn’t believe anyone. He said that he couldn’t help but tease her, and Emmy rolled her eyes for the billionth time that day. Before she could retort, the atrium went dark, and a narrated voice began above. The show had started.

Rory made a face when Emmy said she'd sign his copy if he'd stop being a numpty. "I can't stop being a made-up word you used to describe me," he argued. It was basically her way of refusing him a signed copy and making it feel like it was his fault. How rude! Then again, he wasn't seriously upset. It was always Emmy's way to tease him out of things, and he knew that if he really wanted a signed copy, she'd give it to him. He chuckled again when she rolled her eyes. He kind of enjoyed how often she did it around him, though he really had no idea whether or not she did that around others. Then the auditorium went dark and the show started. Rory couldn't help but reach over and shove Emmy's shoulder in excitement. He was ready for this to start! He didn't say anything, because he was sure that Emmy would get annoyed if he did and he wanted to enjoy this.

Emmy narrowed her eyes at Rory. “You know numpty is a real word, right?” She asked. Not many people used the word because it wasn’t exactly nice, and it seemed to be a regional thing, too, but she hadn’t made it up! Rory started laughing at her, and that caused Emmy to roll her eyes again, because it was either that or getting mad, and Emmy would prefer not to ruin their date – well, not date, but activity they were doing together – with a blast of temper. When the auditorium dimmed, Rory shoved his shoulder against hers, and Emmy looked over at him, and put her finger up to her lips in a shushing gesture. When she flopped her hand back down at her side, her hand brushed up against Rory’s, and Emmy tried not to think too much about that. She focused instead on the monotonous voice above that was narrating about the stars projected onto the screen above them.
