It was late at night, and all the little Gryffindors were tucked safely away in there beds. Well, not all.
"And then, I ripped his arm off. Blood gushed everywhere! He was screaming and screaming. AHHHHHHH! And I chewed on his arm as he ran away into the night," Adena finished with a dramatic flourish. The first years sitting in front of her plush chair murmured excitedly. A few clapped. Most of them challenged her and called her a liar. "No way!" and Cool! could be heard among the whispers. Adena smiled. She told these same stories every night, and they always drew a crowd of curious preteens. The older Gryffindors had caught on to her exaggerations. They all knew Adena didn't transform during the full moon. She was as harmless as a kitten.
As the students began to disperse, Adena found herself alone in the common room. There were a few students out of the way, still studying or whatever, but Adena felt very alone. Sure, her stories had attracted the attention of first years, but they would grow bored eventually, too. They would find out the truth and stop listening to Dena's gruesome bedtime stories. She saw it every year. And maybe it was crass of her to make light of her siblings' and parents' condition, but, for a moment, with all those eyes watching her and ears listening in, she felt special.
Adena sprawled across her overstuffed chair and sighed loudly.

It was a typical night in the common room as Daniel sat at one of the many tables trying to get some work done. Still all that was really happening was him being distracted with other things. From just scribbling on some papers to zoning out. What had his attention now was a girl surrounded by some first years as she told them some story. He had seen this happen a couple of times as she seemed to love to tell her stories to the first years, they always involved things that happened when she turned into a werewolf. The first couple times he was confused on how someone could share so many stories on attacking people or other things while being a werewolf, it just seems like a crazy thing to brag about. That was till he learned that the girl, Adena, wasn't actually a werewolf. It made more sense after that, just telling stories to first years.
As she finished her story the first years started to scatter, most going up to their dorms. The girl sat down in a chair and the common room was quiet again. Even with her done with her story he didn't feel like he was going to get any work done tonight, he just wasn't in the right mood for boring class work. No instead Daniel gave up on it and just placed it all back in his bag and left it on the table. He walked over to the chair the girl was in a laughed for a moment. "Shame on you, now I imagine half those kids will have nightmares." Daniel paused for a moment, not really worried about them having nightmares from a silly story like that. "You should have done it right and made sure they all had nightmares." He finished with a laugh just kidding after all.

Adena's eyes narrowed as a shadow fell across her face, flickering gently from the light of the fireplace. She cocked her head to the side to see who was addressing her. It was Daniel, a sixth year student. She hadn't even heard him approach. She liked him okay, even though they had never talked much. He was originally from Ilvermorny, making him an outcast just like she was - unless first years were involved, of course. She often saw him working alone in the common room or anywhere else she tended to find him. But this was the first time he had ever actually approached her. Might as well make the most of it, she supposed.
"Oh, they'll have nightmares," she replied with a devilish grin, stretching lazily in her chair. "They always do." She uttered a dark laugh and sat up, angling herself to get a better look at Daniel. "They'll be wetting their beds and owl-ing their parents by sunrise. Maybe you should join us for storytime one night. You can regale them with the horrors of North America." She laughed again before beckoning to the chair beside her. "Go ahead. Sit a spell. I'm not going anywhere any time soon." She tucked her feet under herself to prove her point and leaned against the arm of her own chair, head resting in her palm. "So, tell me, Mr. McKay. What is America like?" she asked. She was ever curious about the world around her, and now that her audience had abandoned her, she might as well do a little learning by the firelight.

"I'll wait for the screams in the middle of the night and the grumbling of house elves from what they'll have to clean up." Daniel replied as she assured him they would all have nightmares. He didn't expect they would and if they did than first years were far easier to scare than he thought "As for writing home that'll be funny to see the parents if they complain. Till they meet you that is." Daniel said with another laugh before going into some type of impression of the parents. "Why would you say mean things about this cute little girl Jimmy, she looks like she wouldn't hurt a pigmy puff let alone anyone else." The parents would also find out same time from the staff that she wasn't a werewolf he presumed and yelled at their kids for believing that too. "I don't know, you seem to be doing such a good job, I don't want to try and steal the spotlight."
Adena offered him a seat and he shrugged for a moment. He had only really planned on making his comment about the first years and that would be it. Still he wasn't about to go back to his class work and this was better than anything else he had planned. Daniel moved over to the chair that she motioned to and sat down getting comfortable. "You know, it's all cowboys and Indians." Daniel replied being slightly sarcastic, just having some fun for a moment. "What did you want to know?"

"In my defense, they're the ones that choose to sit here and listen to the same stories I tell every night. If they have nightmares, it's their own faults." Adena explained teasingly. In truth, she did care about the younger students, which was why she told the same old tired stories to entertain them every night. But they were gluttons for punishment, and one couldn't really hold Adena responsible for that, could they?
Adena couldn't help but smile at Daniel's description of her. No, she wouldn't hurt a Pygmy Puff. They were cute. A person? Well, it depended on her mood. There were certainly some students that should wouldn't mind ending up on the wrong side of one of her stories. But maybe that was a little harsh. Maybe.
When the attention finally turned to America, Adena leaned forward, eager to hear every word. She laughed politely at the "cowboys and Indians" comment, but that was how everyone described America. She wanted the meat of the country. She wanted to know every last detail. Who knew? Maybe she would end up there one day in her quest for freedom. She decided to start with the basics. "What are the dark wizards like?"

Adena had a point, it wasn't like she made them listen to her stories, each time they came willingly. He also wasn't too worried about the first years either. Sure he didn't want to see them hurt or anything but a good scare never hurt anyone and they could run into scarier things just being at Hogwarts than listening to one of her stories."If they have nightmares? I thought you were guaranteeing me they would." Daniel teased for a second, he wasn't looking forward to them having nightmares, it would probably wake him up in his part of the dorm but if it happened it happened. Still they could joke about it and he would found out later tonight anyway.
They both shared a laugh as Daniel described America as cowboys and Indians. It wasn't true, at least anymore but there was that point in the countries history. Adena asked about what the dark wizards were like and he really had no first hand experience there. Still he read the paper plenty of times and knew of stories. "Are you asking about them just because you think I might know about them personally?" Daniel teased with a slight laugh before he continued. "Well as far as I know there isn't so much a focus on blood status back home. What there seems to be a lot more of are stories of black markets, illegal magical animal smuggling and poaching." He explained and as far a he knew that was mostly what the dark wizards did but you could only get so much from stories. "It's been happening for centuries, that's how we ended up with hidebehinds. Plenty of other weird animals cause of the smuggling too." @adena

Adena merely rolled her eyes and smiled. Of course the students would have nightmares. She predicted that at least three of them would approach her in the Great Hall the next morning while she was chowing down on her customary toast and eggs, to tell her that they didn't want to hear her stories anymore because they were too scary. Those same three students would be sitting directly in front of her the following night, eager to hear about how she dismembered some new poor soul. Funny how the human mind worked, really. People loved their own sense of fear. They craved it, knowing it would scare their socks off, they would just come back for more. Silly humans.
The young witch listened intently to Daniel's description. Her face, usually full of smiles and laughter, softened as he told her about the animal smuggling and poaching. Adena wasn't a crier, but nothing touched her heart quite like the mistreatment of magical beasts. Being that her siblings and parents were included in the lot, she couldn't imagine them being smuggled out of the country, and was suddenly very glad she didn't live in America. "That's awful," she said sadly. "I mean, yippy kay-yay that they don't care about blood, but at the cost of magical animals suffering? I think I'll stick with European prejudices." They weren't much better, she conceded, but at least people made their own choices. Animals had no way to voice their discontent.
"So what about the landscape?" she asked, quickly changing the subject to something much more cheerful. "Is it as dreary and boring as it is here?"

It wasn't that Daniel didn't think it was awful, more it was just the news stories he was used too. No where was perfect, not even the land he considered home. Everywhere was bound to have some problems. "Yeah it's not great, everywhere as some problem they need to work on." Was all Daniel could really say on the topic, he didn't feel that the problems in America were any less severe or cruel than the ones here and he wouldn't dare imply it either.
Adena asked about the the landscape, Daniel imagined trying to change the subject a little and he was more than happy to move on from it. Dark acts from evil people weren't the most fun to talk about. Asking if it was as dreary and boring as here Daniel just laughed a little. "It has its dreary parts but it also has pretty much everything else. Where I grew up is mostly just a city area but there's mountains, deserts, swamp like lands to the south east." Daniel laughed for a moment to himself as he never really thought about the landscape much, probably because he lived there himself. "There's even a volcano in our national park, its underground but it's still active but they say it's very unlikely to erupt for a long time. Still I imagine a volcano is enough to not be dreary and boring." He explained again with a laugh, it was certainly interesting none the less.

Adena was glad that Daniel followed suit so easily in changing the subject. She had first brought up the dark wizards as a joke, but now she was glad to be off the topic. She smiled a bit as Daniel began describing the scenery in the States, letting her head rest on the arm of her chair as he talked. She tried to imagine it, but something told her that swamps, mountains, deserts, and cities all in the same place was slightly inaccurate. But she listened intently as he talked with almost as much fervor as when she told her werewolf stories. She tried to picture the volcano he described, sitting just under the surface of the land, waiting for the moment to strike and destroy everything it touched. Now, that was a fun thought.
Suddenly, Adena leaned forward, closer to Daniel, studying him carefully. "Do you miss it?" she asked softly.

Daniel had finished explaining what the landscape of America was like. Some of which he had seen and some he had only heard or read about. Daniel didn't get out as much as he wished he had, especially now when he wasn't even in America anymore. He didn't have a family that did things, if he wanted to go somewhere he had to figure out how to get there himself. She asked if he missed it and he just laughed slightly. "Was it that obvious? I suppose it was." Daniel asked, only to answer his own question moments later. "I'm sure plenty of students feel the same way from time to time, it's just like being homesick." He attempted to explain but much like Ilvermorny was home to him. Daniel could only imagine Hogwarts was home to many of the students here. "Only I don't get to go home during holiday or summer break. I don't get to go back for another year." Even then he wouldn't be in school anymore, he wouldn't get another chance to see Ilvermorny, at least as a student. That realization hurt most of all.
"Enough about me," Now he wanted a change of subject for a moment. "Let's talk about you wolf girl, why do you want to be a werewolf? If you wanted head pats there's an easier way to go about it." Daniel joked even if the the question was actually an honest one as he was curious about. From what he heard most werewolves hated the condition

Adena nodded sympathetically. She couldn't imagine being away from her home for that long. It was hard enough waiting to see her sister during Christmas and summer breaks. She couldn't imagine having to wait until she graduated to go home again. She loved her friends at Hogwarts, and she loved the castle itself, but she needed a little space from it every now and then.
Adena's eyebrows raised in surprise as the subject finally changed to her. Normally, she enjoyed being the center of attention but a blush rose in her cheeks when he asked why she wanted to be a werewolf. The blush turned into a grin. "Obviously so I can strike fear into the hearts of my enemies," she said jokingly. But her gaze turned serious as she settled into her chair. She turn her head to look into the fireplace, watching the flames crackle and dance. "My parents are werewolves. My oldest brother and sister are werewolves. My uncle is...Fenrir Greyback. Being a werewolf runs in my blood. I want to teach people that we're the same as everyone else. That we're not monsters to be feared. That's why I want to join the Ministry. The beast division is the perfect place to give werewolves a voice. And who better to be their voice than a werewolf? I want to make a difference," she said softly. Very few things made Adena take on a serious tone, but this was one of them. After all the prejudices forced upon her family, and even her as a halfbreed, something needed to change.

Daniel listened on as Adena explained why she wanted to be a werewolf so badly. While he still didn't see the appeal he could understand her reasoning a little better now. Even her family did sound interesting and he had certainly heard the name of her uncle before. It was all in the past and had happened here in Europe but history classes in Ilvermorny covered what happened with Voldemort and the death eaters. Some of his friends even found it amazing he was going to school with Harry Potters children. Daniel didn't make a big deal out of, they were normal people like everyone else. "That certainly is a noble goal and an interesting family. If there was a good reason for becoming a werewolf I'd imagine that would be one of them."
"Still if that's your goal you might want to stop scaring first years as much, it's doubtful but if they really get scared of werewolves that's only hurting you cause. Even if it does seem like fun." Daniel explained, if she didn't want people to fear werewolves scaring people with werewolf stories might be a start. At the same time he still questioned if any of the first years were actually scared. "They would have to be scared first though, which I still doubt they were." Daniel teased for a moment about her stories.

Adena shrugged. "They're just kids. They get a kick out of being scared. If they haven't realized none of it's true by now, they will when they go home and their parents berate them for telling ridiculous stories. I've been telling the same stories since first year, and it's the same reaction every year." She smiled knowingly to herself and continued to stare into the fire. The professors at Hogwarts had already berated her for spreading the rumors, seeing as the student werewolves were monitored very closely. She laughed aloud as she thought about when Headmaster Longbottom gently scolded her for her "nonsense" as he put it. She grinned at Daniel's teasing, flashing her teeth in the firelight. "Careful, McKay, you might end up the victim in my next story."

Daniel listened on as Adena explained about her stories. He hadn't been totally serious when he said it was a bad idea for her cause but she also had a point. If they didn't realize she was just telling stories for the sake of having some fun instead of being serious that was on them. She then threatened to make him the victim in her next story if he wasn't careful. "That'll be interesting. Still it might give it away when you say you ripped of my arm off and I still have both of mine. If they believe it then I might be the scarier one at that point." Daniel laughed at the idea, if she wanted to make him some type of victim in her stories he wasn't going to argue, that's all they were after all. It also might have been funny to listen to how she was going to attack him.
