Diana said that she didn’t know what she was, shocking Imogen a little with her openness. For all that she hoped that her students would be able to talk to her about sensitive topics, it still was foreign to her with their thoughts and feelings. Diana said that she felt female most of the time, but sometimes she just didn’t, and Imogen nodded along, trying to listen to all of what the Ravenclaw had to say before making any assumptions or judgements. Diana finished by saying that she hated it – her gender expression, Imogen assumed – because she couldn’t match her body to it, and could only think about how wrong everything was. “Do you think having a label for what you feel would be helpful?” Im asked. She knew there were some people who detested labels of any sort because they made them feel boxed in, and considering that was exactly Diana’s problem at the moment, Imogen didn’t want to make it any worse. “The only advice that I can offer is that trying to force yourself to change is going to make everything worse. You need to relax before you can move forward.” Imogen said, trying to offer advice for the problem that Diana had originally come to her with.

Imogen was right to think that Diana might not like the idea of a label. The openness of how it was, the fluidity of it all. The girl didn't look up though to voice her almost displeasure. Because it was bringing up another thought. "Is there even one..?" She whispered, not really looking for an answer but at the same time hoping there was one. Maybe knowing what to call her feelings would help her accept them or at the very least understand.
Advise to not force the changes and just relax wasn't that welcome. It wasn't what she wanted to hear. Because it meant there wasn't a quick solution. That she'd actually have to work through everything before her ability would return. Diana wrung her hands together tightly, tight enough that her fingers were turning white. "I see." She muttered, not voicing her extreme unease and concern. With everything going on, she knew Elaine would be asking more of her. And that it would slowly tear her apart. How was she supposed to become okay enough with it all that she could change her appearance again?

Diana asked if there was even a label for what she was, and Imogen laughed a little. If there was anything that she had learned in her months of researching LGBTQ+ literature when she was a teenager, it was that there was a label for just about everything. That was simultaneously helpful and frustrating, because knowing that there was a label for what you were, but being unable to find it. “Probably.” Imogen answered. “And if there’s not… we can make one, if you want.” The amount of possibilities was infinite, but only if that was what Diana wanted.
Despite Diana saying that she saw that she couldn’t force herself to be able to change again, Imogen didn’t think that was the case. The Ravenclaw was wringing her hands incessantly, and that didn’t look like a person who had accepted their fate. “Don’t think too hard.” Imogen said gently. It was easy to say, but harder to do. “Take a couple deep breaths.” She suggested. Sometimes even pausing a moment could help everything seem more manageable.

Diana hadn't been expecting the conversation to go this way. She'd hoped that her fellow Metamorphmagus would know how to fix her ability and she'd be off. But instead, it'd turned to the problem of what was preventing her from shifting. And it was forcing her to face feelings she'd never really had to. Feelings she'd always felt, but had never stopped to understand. She'd just adjusted, and ignored it. Because she'd had the ability and power to. And Professor Zhu was call the entire time. Not really... phased by any of it. "Is it... common..? I don't know anyone that.... that feels like this. At least as far as I know." She added the last part spur of the moment, having to stop to consider that maybe others did feel like this and no one talked about it. But as far as she knew... None of her siblings had ever had this problem. To be fair though, none of them were Metamorphmagus like her.
Slowly Diana looked back up at the professor as she was urged to not think to hard and take some deep breaths. She tightly pursed her lips together, before forcing herself to nod. It took another moment to force her mouth to relax enough that she could follow the advice and slowly inhale... then exhale. She didn't know if it was supposed to help.

Diana asked if it was common to feel the way that she did, which was a veritable minefield of a question. Imogen knew she had to take care with her answer, but she hated how vague she was being with most of Diana’s concerns; there was a fine line between letting the Ravenclaw figure things out on her own, and just leaving her in the middle of an unfamiliar ocean with no life preserver. “Common and uncommon are hard to judge when it comes to things like this. There are a lot of people like you, who don’t realize that they feel differently until something makes them think about it.” Imogen shrugged. “And there are some people who know that they’re different, but don’t want to face it for one reason or another.” It wasn’t always easy to accept yourself for who you were, that much was certain. “It’s not like people are encouraged to talk about the ways we’re different.” Imogen added. People were sometimes taught to believe that their differences were shameful, or strange, or in some way not worthy of time and consideration. She wasn’t sure that her own experience with being different was exactly relevant, but she included herself in the ‘we’ just in case.
