He laughed softly when Adonia said that the ceiling wasn't as beautiful as she was. This was one of the things he liked about her, her ability to make him smile, even in the middle of all of this. "Guess I'll just have to wait my turn to see you then," he responded softly, wishing he didn't have to wait at all. He was so tired of this, of being in this hospital. She ignored his mess-up, talking about his future and Brandon was relieved. He didn't want to have to get into that. He was trying not to think about it, much less talk about it. She said she wanted to be an actress and Brandon wished he could look at her. "I didn't know you wanted to be an actress," he said, his tone curious. Then he smiled, "Since when is fun the most important thing?" Thinking about it, that wasn't really a surprise to him, that she felt that way.

He said he would have to wait his turn to see her and she sighed, sad. Sad that he was talking in such a soft voice that made her entire body ache, and sad that he actually meant what he said, but not in the way she wanted him to. Not really. "I'll have to make sure it's worth the wait," she added, just as soft, a failed attempt at being lighthearted.
He said he didn't know she wanted to be an actress and she chuckled, looking over to see him smiling as he asked since when fun was the most important thing. "Come on, Brandon. You've known me for over a year, at least a little," she explained, "haven't you noticed a pattern? Or, I guess that's not a Hufflepug trait," she teased, nudging him very, very lightly with her shoulder -- not even sure if he could feel it."I've always just done what I wanted as long as it made me happy. Holding back wasn't really my style," wasn't.

She answered him softly, saying she would have to make it worth the wait and Brandon realized that she was just trying to make him feel better. She was trying to be nice and he should recognize that instead of wallowing. "I'm sure it will be," he answered with a small smile.
She said he'd known her for over a year, which was kind of true, but mostly not. Sure, he went to the same school as her, but Brandon didn't really know much about Adonia before their interaction at the Carnival this last spring. He rolled his eyes, even though she couldn't see that. Then chuckled as she teased him about not being observant because he was a Hufflepuff. "Maybe it's just not a Brandon trait," he answered with a smile, not feeling anything when she nudged him. "I'm sure other people in my house would have noticed. I just don't always pay good attention." He listened as she explained. "At least you know how to be happy. Not everyone does." Though happiness was different for everyone. At the moment, it was two things for Brandon. Being with Rosie and playing his music. At least he hadn't lost one of those.

He said he was sure it would be worth the wait and she caught that small smile he gave, which made her grin wider, but she didn't comment on the subject further. He said that it wasn't a Brandon trait, and that other people in his house would have noticed her pattern. She didn't mind that he hadn't paid attention - it meant he was focusing on things he thought were important, and that was a beautiful thing. He commented on how she knew to be happy, and that not everyone else did and she fell silent, even in her breathing. She knew this was a place she should tread lightly, especially since he had been having such a hard time with all of this... "I... think everyone knows how to be happy, they just don't always know more than one way to do so," she started, "they fall so hard for one thing and forget there are millions of ways to find happiness," she wouldn't forget that. No matter how hard she fell for Brandon Fisher, she wouldn't forget there were millions of other people who could make her happy. "We should sleep, I think," she added after a moment.

Adonia started talking about how everyone knew how to be happy, they just didn't realize there were many ways to find happiness. He sighed a little. Her words made sense, but they weren't easy ones for him to accept. He wanted to be happy like he was before, to feel peaceful and content and able to do the things he loved. Not being able to do them for who knew how long ate at him. He got so lost in his thoughts that he didn't say anything. Then Adonia said they should sleep. "Probably," Brandon muttered, closing his eyes to appease her even though he knew that he wouldn't be sleeping for a long while. --- --- --- Adonia was leaving tomorrow. Brandon hated that knowledge, hated the thought that in a few hours he'd be here on his own. Sure, he was mending little by little. He could move his fingers now and his hand a little, could shake and nod his head, but it wasn't as much progress as he wanted. He didn't want to be here anymore. Still, he knew Adonia was getting restless. She was also healed, practically. She shouldn't have to stay here and Brandon knew he was being selfish when he wished that she did. He just didn't want to be alone. "So are you ready for tomorrow?" he asked, even though it was honestly the last thing he wanted to talk about. He couldn't seem to help himself. @adonia

He agreed that they should sleep and so they did, after she had moved her bed back where it belonged so they wouldn't get busted. Then the time came that she was leaving the next day, healed up enough that she didn't have to hang around any longer. She was glad for it, but felt terrible for leaving Brandon. She would visit him, though, every day if she could. She was sitting on her bed, legs over the side, braiding her hair and un-braiding it, anything to have something to do with her hands. Brandon spoke, asking if she was ready and she nodded, maybe a little too excited for the situation, and stopped herself. "I am," she said, "I'll come back, though. You know that," she promised again, even though she had mentioned it before. "I'll bring you flowers, and chocolates and music boxes," she promised too, "whatever you want." She stayed seated for now, but had finally stopped playing with her hair, letting it stay out of a braid.

To be entirely honest, Brandon was jealous of the fact that Adonia healed so fast. At least, she'd healed fast in comparison to him. His spine was almost intact now and the healers were telling him that once it was he'd be able to start moving, though he'd still have to stay here for a few more weeks. Right now he was contenting himself with the fact that he could feel things. He couldn't move his hands or feet or anything except his head, but if someone touched his hand, he could feel that. It was nice, after not being able to feel anything for the longest time.
She said she was excited to go and Brandon gave a wistful smile, imagining what that would feel like. She said she'd come back and his smile became more real. "I know you will," he confirmed, "and I'm glad. I think I'd go crazy if I had to stay here on my own." Adonia started talking about how she'd bring him anything he wanted and Brandon wished he could shrug. "Honestly, I just want you to come. You can bring things if you want, but I just want people." He paused a moment and then finished his thought in a whisper. "I don't want to be alone." It was hard to admit that out loud, but he and Adonia were good friends and he knew she wouldn't judge him. She'd understand, which was why he told her.

He gave her a smile that was sweet, but made her feel sad. He said he knew that she would come back, and at least he had some confidence and maybe a little solace in that fact. Then, he said he was glad and that he'd go crazy on his own. "I wouldn't let you go crazy, Brandon. Unless it was the good kind of crazy," she winked, chuckling, but her heart wasn't entirely in the joke. But then he spoke about how he honestly just wanted her to come, not really caring if she brought things... he wanted 'people'. Her heart sunk a little. Not just her specifically, but people. Well, even if it wasn't as personal as she wanted, it was still something. She stood as he whispered, barely hearing his words about not wanting to be alone. "No, of course not," she replied softly, crossing over to his side of the room. "I wouldn't let you be alone. Being alone is too sad," she paused at his bedside and then, slowly, climbed up onto the bed next to him, careful not to put any pressure on him. For now she was just sitting, her back against his pillow, right beside him, her legs up next to him so she was laying right beside him. "Besides, I don't want to get lonely either, and I don't know many people here," Adonia made friends easily, though, so that wouldn't be an issue, really...

Brandon gave a soft chuckle when Adonia mentioned letting him go the good kind of crazy. "Why am I not surprised by that?" he asked in an obviously teasing voice. He was glad that even though she'd be leaving soon, she was still trying to cheer him up. That was Adonia. It took him just a moment to decide he should let her. He didn't want to drag her down just because he had a bad attitude. The next thing Brandon knew, Adonia was lying right beside him, talking about how being alone was sad and she didn't want to get lonely either. Brandon smiled, "I guess I'm just going to have to enjoy not being alone for one more night then." He paused a moment. "I really am glad you're here, that you were my ... roommate? I mean, I'm not glad you got hurt, but I'm glad that I got to know you better over the last while. You're a really good friend," he complimented, moving his hand to touch hers. Sure, that was about all he could do, but it was better than nothing, right?

He said that he wasn't surprised, teasing her, and she chuckled. She snuggled up next to him a little more as he continued to speak. He said he was glad to not being alone for one more night, and said he was glad they were roommates, that she was a good friend. She grinned, her heart skipping out of her chest as his hand moved to touch hers. She clasped his hand, holding onto it and nestling her chin onto his shoulder. "I love you, Brandon. You're one of my best friends," she said, and she meant it. She knew the difference between romantic love and friendship, and right now she was fully focused on him being her friend. That was the best she could ask for.
