Raina had only had her cat for a short amount of time, the thing was still young - a kitten really. He was a sweet little tabby, adorable and cuddly - the perfect cat you would think. But he was also mischievious - and certainly was an adventurous little thing. And then of course - there was the fact that he had quite a unique little name. She completely blamed her older brother for the name - even if he would disagree with her blaming him. Like honestly - she wouldn't have even come up with a name like what he had. As far as Raina was concerned that name was after a horrible thing. Her nose scrunched at just the thought before jumping up again and moving around her dorm room, "Come on buddy - where are you?" the currently blue-haired girl mumbled as she crouched to look under one of the beds again, sighing when there was no sign of her cat. With her eyes narrowing she stares at the door - realizing he must have snuck down to the common room - hopefully no one had left the common room open, merlin.. what if her cat was wandering the corridors!? That thought now in her mind she rushed out her room and to the common room. While she had been searching though - her little cat had indeed found himself in the common room, the little creature had curiously been exploring and climbing over everything - and everyone - he could. Currently he was rolling happily around - tiny paws batting at another girl who wasn't his owner. This was where Raina found him, " Mr Pickles!" the youngest Krum girl calls out, rushing over to where the cat was playing, "I am so sorry - he snuck away when I wasn't paying attention." cordelia regan smith

@raina Exams were almost upon Hogwarts. Cordelia was having a hard time pushing herself to study though. The weather. It was so wonderful. Perfect for taking photographs. But school called, and there she was, forced to sit in the common room and complete a paper that she wasn’t exactly thrilled about. Technically she should have been interested; it was a Charms paper after all. The subject matter was practically made for her at this point in time, and Professor Zhu made sure of that. Even though it was her best class, that didn’t mean she was supposed to like the paper. So she decided that she didn’t. In her own way, Cordelia had surpassed this level of Charms months earlier. If the paper had been assigned at that point, she probably would have been more enthusiastic about it. But now, months later? It was more of a struggle to sit down and write it than it should have been.
Having put her camera away hours earlier (against her better judgement), Cordelia had exchanged it for her Charms materials and was currently camped out in a corner of the common room. There were other Hufflepuffs around, but it was relatively quiet for once because everyone was either studying or finishing up last minute work just like she was. Her small couch was just enough room to spread her school materials on one cushion, and her body on the other, so that meant it was all to herself. Keeping other students away from her would ensure that she got her work done. Distractions meant having to possibly talk, and talking would mean getting thrown into a tizzy about what she was supposed to say and do. Except for when distractions came in the form of a tiny kitten peering over the top of one of her books.
Cordelia didn’t notice it right away. When she went to reach for the book and her hand brushed up against a furry body instead, she instinctively pulled her hand right back. Her own cat was being lazy and sleeping on her bed, so there shouldn’t have been a cat next to her. As with most kittens, this one decided that it wanted to play a game once she pulled her hand away from it, and within seconds the little creature was all over her, batting away. It was extremely difficult to stop an adorable kitten from doing that, and taking a short break wasn’t going to kill her. Scratching at its head, she heard a voice call out something about a pickle, and then there was an apology quickly following it. Cordelia looked up from the kitten to see a girl standing in front of her. “N-No it-it’s f-fine. M-Mine u-used to r-run away l-l-like that to-too,” she smiled.

Being inside so much was almost a strange concept for Raina, she loved being outside when the weather was so nice. It was calming, it was relaxing and lately the weather had been quite simply wonderful. But with Exams coming up - it seemed as if the whole school was basically on a lock down, the halls almost always rather quiet as students were studying in the library or common rooms. It was almost odd how the Common Room today was so much quieter and less packed than it had been in the past few days, of course there were a few students around - mostly studying or just reading, there were a few others playing games quietly nearby but - compared to the past few days - this was far calmer than what had become usual around this time of the year. Raina's mind was focused however on her kitten, she loved the cat more than basically everything and anything she had and often treated the mischievous little thing almost like one would a child. For years she had wanted a kitten of her own, even before coming to Hogwarts, although after getting her letter the wishes had become more and more often as being officially school age she was allowed to bring a pet to school - but her wishes had gone unanswered, as her wish for any pet had been denied. Until Daniel, at the time he had been her oldest sisters boyfriend - he had given her little kitten to her as a gift. As such - he was more special than most people knew, her feelings were torn even now though - Daniel had broken her sisters heart, but he had also been kind and had given her a precious little creature she loved immensely. A little creature who was apparently trying to make friends with another student who was trying to study. Raina arrived in the room with enough time to see her little ball of fur rolling around trying to turn things into a game, the tiny creature trying to pounce on the girls hand every time she moved - until he was rewarded with a pat in just the right spot to bring forth sweet little purrs that were entirely too innocent compared to the mischievousness of his earlier en-devours. Quickly Raina steps forward, gently scooping up the tiny creature in her arms as she attempted to apologize for her pets actions, "Are you sure? I.. I'm still trying to get him to listen to me but - he seems to have a mind all of his own and gets these ideas that everyone should be his friend." she gives a little laugh, in many ways - her cat was quite a bit like herself, "Now - little mister. Pickles say sorry to the nice girl - we interrupted her working." Her voice lightens as she speaks to the cat, gently holding the cat out. "Maybe if we're super nice she will let us join her for a bit seeing as you seem to have made a friend." cordelia regan smith

@raina Cordelia was somewhat confused when the girl reached over and grabbed her kitten back. It wasn’t like the little guy was hurting her at all. Distracting, sure, but she had needed that right then and there. The worst part though was that Cordelia was horrified that she had possibly been making a face that looked like she was annoyed by the whole thing. The initial shock of seeing a kitten suddenly climbing on her belongings may have done that, and she was sure she probably had scrunched up eyebrows as she tried to comprehend where the little furball had come from. That was it though. That was also why she hated the stutter. It would take her ages to explain to her housemate that there wasn’t a problem. To add to it all, the other girl asked Cordelia if she was positive that it was fine. It wasn’t like she hated being asked the same question she had just answered again, but it certainly made her second guess what she had said the first time around. Not this time though. She was confident that it was fine having the kitten climbing around her. “I-It’s n-not a p-problem,” the Hufflepuff cracked a smile to show that it was okay.
She understood the whole thing with the curious kitten; her own had been like that at one point, as she had told the other girl. They liked figuring out things on their own, and restricting their exploration only ended up with a grumpy cat. If only hers was still like that. Instead, he was either asleep most of the time, or so off the wall, bonkers, crazy, that she could only let him out of her sight when the common room was empty. In a way he still had the energy of a kitten, but the cuteness factor that came with the curiosity had long since disappeared. Now he just annoyed people by getting in their way. She had a hard enough time as it was, having to apologize for her cat was simply annoying.
The girl asked her kitten to say sorry, and Cordelia laughed. So Mr. Pickles was his name! That made more sense now that she thought about it. Having someone randomly calling for a pickle in the middle of the common room was rather odd after all. “I don’t m-mind…” she responded as the girl indirectly asked if she could sit down next to her. Moving some of her books to the floor, Cordelia scooched over to make room. “H-Hello M-Mr. Pickles,” she said, giving the cat a small wave and looking at the girl to make sure she was getting the name correct.

Raina gently cuddled her kitten against her chest, resting her cheek against the soft fluffy fur, she realized after picking him up so quickly that she may have come across as rude and the idea clutched at her heart. The thought that she might have seemed rude or something even possibly worse was a horrifying one. Her hand gently pet the soft little head, listening to the gentle purring that began to try and calm herself down a little - now that she had actually tracked him down and found him, and realized that he was safe things were catching up to her and her cheeks were burning in embarrassment of how she had probably looked like she lost her mind. Seeing the other girl smile and repeat that it wasn't a problem did help but she was still horribly embarrassed by how she had acted and likely had looked. She loved her cat, she truly did - even more because of how she had finally gotten him. But he was a handful - or rather more than a handful at times, she still loved him but one of these days she was terrified that something would happen to him on one of these curious little adventures he went on - she knew he needed to explore and learn about the world around him, but being so young still - Raina worried for her little buddy. At least she was comforted by the fact that all of his adventures seemed to happen during the day light hours, at night the little cat could rarely be found anywhere but beside her or curled up on her bed already fast asleep - when he wasn't eating of course. Her body relaxed as the other girl moved over to make some room, offering some space for her to sit down - she eagerly took it, still embarrassed at her earlier behavior, "I know its a bit of an odd name..." she started, noticing the look to confirm that the name was indeed correct she nodded, her cheeks burning again, "There is a story behind it but - Mr. Pickles refuses to be called anything else - right buddy?" she smiled and let the kitten move around, watching as he moved towards the other girl curiously before tiny paws bat at the other girls hair. cordelia regan smith

@raina There was a part of Cordelia that had hoped the girl would have walked away then and there. She knew that wasn’t the best way to learn how to talk to strangers or make new friends, but old habits die hard. A few years ago, she probably would have packed her belongings up then and there, refusing to make small talk or eye contact. Those things were difficult – apparently not now though, because she actively moved on the couch to allow the girl to sit down next to her. It was nice (and that was a very, very stretched definition) to talk to people on occasion and not be absolutely terrified by the thought of what to say. There were still those times where she was at a loss of words, and she was sure it happened a dozen or so times throughout this one, but at least she acknowledged it now and actively tried to fix it. That meant something, right?
She watched the kitten, Mr. Pickles was his name, confirmed by the owner, as he started to walk around on the couch and move towards her. “I l-l-like it,” she nodded her head, moving another one of her study materials so that the kitten could go right towards her. The kitten batted at her hair, managing to get its paw caught slightly. Reaching out, she quickly and efficiently untangled it, before giving him a few scratches on the head. “He’s a m-man of m-mystery. It f-fits.” The story behind it had to be interesting. Naming a cat after a pickle was certainly odd, but she had named her own after a fire, so they had equally strange name schemes going on. These were animals after all, giving them silly and cute names was the only way to go about it. “S-So uhh…wh-what’s the st-story behind-behind his n-name?”

Raina was - in all honesty, a bit of a social butterfly - at least these days, while she didn't always instigate some social interaction, she rarely turned it down. She enjoyed meeting people and learning about them, it was a far cry from the shy little girl she had been in first year, stumbling over her words just to say hello and introduce herself. But now, now she enjoyed meeting people, finding out their stories and making new friends - the last part was by far her favorite part. She had a bunch of friends - many of them spread out among the houses, she didn't care for any of that different houses - it was utter noncense as far as she was concerned, but closer friends - she just had a select few. Those ones knew every side of her - well almost. Still, even as bubbly and happy as she was - she still sometimes felt that shy little girl was still within her, the little girl who clung to her sisters in her first year - terrified to enter the great hall and be sorted. She had come a long way and grown up a lot, now far more independent than she had been, her smile brightened as she watched the little kitten, he was still young and mostly harmless - but she knew for a fact that both his tiny teeth and little claws were painful sometimes, "You do?" she looked up, her smile brightening at the girls words, "Most people think its strange and look at me like I'm crazy.. specially when I'm calling out for 'Pickle' before bed or something.." she giggled slightly, shaking her head as she sat back, content to watch the kitten play - her was happy now, having made himself a new friend that even gave him scratches. "Yes.. I think giving him the Mr. title gave him a bit of a big head though.. he's so spoilt.." even as she sighed, she was smiling happily - she herself was probably the worst at spoiling him aften all. "Oh.." Raina blinked quickly, sitting back up - straintening her back as her cheeks turn a little red, "The story.. its kinda silly really..." there wasn't really any going back now she had mentioned it - and honestly rarely did anyone ask about it so maybe it wasn't so bad to tell it, "Okay so.. I guess the start is when I got him - he was a gift, from a ... a friend, well - he's - or, he was kind of like family really. They found little Pickle here and well, I have wanted a pet for as long as I can remember - so, he gave him to me - hoping to help me out I guess and it did work, thanks to Mr. Pickles here I've broken from my shell a lot." she paused, chuckling as she reached out, long fingers playing with the playful little kitten. "He didn't have a name for a long while though - I was having trouble coming up with something and - okay, for the record - I kind of hate actual Pickles - always have, I thought they were so weird and utterly gross. But anyways, he didn't have a name and .. my older brother was trying to help me - or so he says." There was a fond expression even as she muttered about her brother, a smile tugging at her lips, "He started to call him by random words - random objects or foods and other things .. so I'm sure you can guess what it ended up stopping at. But, my hatred for that gross food still continues to this day.. and its a bit of a joke among my family that even the appearance of one makes me a bit.. wigged out I guess..." cordelia regan smith

@raina Cordelia nodded her head when the other girl asked to confirm that she liked the cat’s name. Who said that animals had to have normal names anyways? Giving them something unique to go by meant that they were that much more personal. It was like naming a toy or stuffed animal. She had done that with all of hers growing up, and even the llama one that she still had with her in her dorm…basically she thought it was cooler to have a naming scheme that was a little out there, then to go with the common kind. Her own cat, Pyro, had about a fifty percent chance of having the same name as any other orange tabby. That was what happened when a ten year old was told to give an animal a name on the spot. His wild flurry of orange fur and uncontrollable hyperactivity practically sold the name she went with. The girl explained that people tended to think she was crazy for calling out ‘Pickle’, mostly without any context, and Cordelia realized she had heard that once or twice while hiding herself away in a corner of the common room. Those kinds of things didn’t typically register with her because she was too busy trying to be invisible and blend into her surroundings. “I-I agree,” Cordelia said as she continued to scratch the kitten’s head. Adding the ‘Mr.’ prefix to it definitely gave the cat a more official sounding name. The only thing that would top that would be ‘Sir’, but that could easily get confused with any number of professors while at school. Personally, she would hate for that mistake to be made while in front of one.
Continuing to wage war against the kitten’s bats, Cordelia listened closely to the girl’s story on how she received the kitten, and the subsequent naming of it. The fact that she disliked pickles, the food, but the cat only liked being called by Pickles was hilarious. The stubbornness of felines never ceased to amaze her. “S-Sometimes it’s m-meant to be,” Cordelia contemplated. “Though I d-don’t think I c-could n-name a p-pet after p-peanut butter…” she mused, realizing a few seconds after that she hadn’t given the basis of why she had said that in the first place. “I-I’m allergic…if that m-makes sense?”

Raina had always given unique names to things, but her cat - he was a unique one. Mr. Pickles was her first real - living animal, not a stuffed animal that she named and kept in her room - she still had almost everysingle one she had, had as a small little girl. Either kept on her bed at home or up on a shelf in her bedroom. But she hadn't had any pets - at least not one of her own, she had a family owl like most other wizarding families but, that wasn't her own - it was only after Daniel had handed her the tiny little kitten as a gift that she had finally gotten her very own pet. His name perhaps wouldn't have been her first pick, but what had started as a little joke - it had stuck and there was no backing out of it now. He knew it was his name after all and honestly - she probably wouldn't change it anymore. "I love him though, even if he has a name I didn't originally pick." she gently scratches the kitten behind its ears, giggling as he continues to play with the other girl. "It wouldn't have been my first choice in what I would have called him, but - stubborn little guy he is. He decided it was his name, isn't that right Mr?" she raised her eyes - attempting a scolding look but the fondness in her voice gave it all away. "I guess it was meant to be." She chuckles and looks up curious until she hears that the girl was allergic, "That makes sense to me, I mean - I wouldn't want to name a pet after something I was allergic to, so I get it." she offered a little smile, glancing back at Cordelia. "How long have you had your cat for? I mean - its kinda obvious I'm still pretty new at being a cat -mommy." she giggled and shrugged, fingers wiggling around to play with the little kitten. cordelia regan smith

@raina From Cordelia’s point of view, it didn’t look like it really mattered anymore whether or not Mr. Pickle’s name was the girl’s choice or not. If that was what he liked and responded to, then that was it. Animals could be stubbornly adorable like that at times, and she had to give it to the little guy – he wanted to be called Mr. Pickles. Plus there was always the story to tell about the name. That was a good one to have, and definitely sucked people in. It had worked on her after all. Cordelia nodded her head as the girl repeated most of what she said, about the name being meant to be. Mr. Pickles liked the name he picked for himself and clearly liked having other people pay attention to him because of it. There weren’t many cats that would willingly approach her the way he had. Usually they were stealthier, whereas he was all over her in a second.
The thought of her naming an animal Mr. Peanut Butter was horrifying. It would probably make her have allergic reactions just thinking of it, not to mention that saying the name would be difficult with the stutter. Her own cat’s name was difficult enough as it was at times, she didn’t need to add a second part to it. That would make it seem like she was a masochist for stammering. “Uhh…since b-before f-first year. I think…” It had been a while since Pyro had joined the family. He wasn’t as old as her parents’ cat, but also wasn’t adopted for the sake of having a pet for school. “M-Maybe a year or t-two p-prior to school?”

Raina sat up, listening eagerly to the other girl - she was patient and gently smiled even as her hand was wiggling and playing with her little cat, "That is amazing - I sometimes wish I had Pickles here before, but - I guess if I had - he wouldn't be the same now. So - I suppose it all turns out the way it is meant to - don't you think?" she tilted her head slightly, giving a small grin to the blonde as she spoke. "Do you have any other animals? I mean - back at home, or is it just your Pyro you have?" she was a curious thing, likely almost as curious as her young kitten, but Raina unlike young Mr. Pickles - knew better than just jumping into things and landing himself into situations of endless trouble. "I love animals, all kinds - magical and non-magical." Her eyes lit up as she spoke, it wasn't all that hard for her to talk - thanks to her mischievous little kitten at least, she hadn't had as much of the awkwardness that could sometimes occur when she tried to meet someone new - it was easier and she was far more relaxed and eager to speak up for herself because of it. "What about you? What do you like?" she carefully asked the questions, offering a small smile - she was always curious about what others liked and what they were into. People could be constantly fascinating. cordelia regan smith

@raina She gave Mr. Pickles a few more scratches before leaning back into the couch and listening to the owner talk about how things happened for a reason. That made sense. If she had been given a camera in her first two years of school, there probably would have been a lot less time spent on schoolwork. The only reason she made it through those years without interacting with others was via reading books and doing her class work diligently. Now she had her escape and somehow managed to balance it perfectly with school, despite looking like a photography fanatic at times. Cordelia nodded her head to the girl’s first question, and then to the start of her second question about other pets at home. “My m-mum has a cat t-too. She’s r-really old and doesn’t m-move much anymore. S-Sits around a b-bugs me m-mostly.” Batted at her camera if it was lying around, took quills and hid them, and basically anything else to show she wasn’t accepted, despite being around for sixteen years. That was the trouble with a twenty-year-old cat that refused to kick it. Cordelia liked to think that the introduction of Pyro into the family a few years back breathed new life into the older one, because it definitely acted like a brat still.
Cordelia listened to her housemate as she went on to say that she liked all kinds of animals, both those that were non-magical, and the ones that did hold a bit of their own. She was more of a non-magical person, simply because cats, dogs, rodents, and rabbits were easier to read. Snakes not so much, but they were still preferred over anything that could send magic back at her. “N-Non-m-magical. B-Because they t-tend to be c-calmer and easier to handle for m-me.”

Raina glanced back at her little mischievous kitten, who now seemed content to curl up for a little nap now that he had gotten his way. He had been played with and scratched - and now he was content and happy to nap and purr away. She shook her head with a tiny fond smile as she pet the little fur ball, "I think most old cats are a bit like that, they get a little lazy and then like bugging what they consider as 'their humans'. I'd bet you that is the way most animals think actually.. while we say they are our pets - they think they are in charge. Or at least the cats certainly think that way.." she grinned at her words, nodding to Mr. Pickles who had made him self comfortable on Raina's lap, only moving to bat at her hand to make her continue to pat him. "I kind of wish we had more animals at home but.. really its mostly Owls, and Mr. Pickles now too of course!" She eagerly waited, hoping to learn more about the other girl. She already liked Cordelia a whole lot, she was sweet and nice - and if Mr. Pickles liked her well. Despite his mischievousness she trusted her fluffy friends judgement without question. "That's true I suppose, I've always thought that maybe if I don't become a musician that perhaps I could take care of animals - I love Care of Magical Creatures. Although.. some animals worry me a little." she gave a small laugh before shaking her head, "So - what do you like that isn't any animals or something? I love music, what about you?" She was curious now, but allowed time for her housemate to answer, giving her time as she gently pat her little kitten, grinning at the gentle purring that was comforting her. Perhaps young Mr. Pickles had led her to someone who could be a new friend, that was a nice thing to think about for sure. cordelia regan smith

@raina Cordelia nodded her head confidently as the other Hufflepuff described what old cats were like. That was exactly how her mum’s cat was! Treated her like a toy, even when there were plenty of cat toys (and even a younger cat) to play with. She knew it was because they had grown up together, and whilst that cat was older than she was, that didn’t take away from the fact that there had been lots of attention placed on her until the new guy came around. If anything, the recent assaults on her attention were because of Pyro’s existence in the house. Her human wasn’t paying attention to her, and she got jealous. Cordelia knew that she knew that already, just had never put it into words like the other girl had. “Yeah…I th-think d-dogs are m-more friends than r-rulers over us,” Cordelia added, trying to bring something relevant from her side. While she had never had a dog, there were plenty of neighborhood ones back home that she patted on the head from time to time. There had always been odd looks when she did that, because the seemingly quiet, cautious girl wasn’t absolutely terrified by bouncing, booming, fur beasts. If only they knew how violent her cats were…
As for magical and non-magical creatures, it seemed like that conversation had a little more life to it still. The other girl mentioned that some animals worried her, and Cordelia took that to mean some of the more dangerous magical creatures. “B-Being scared p-probably worries them t-too,” she mused, not really thinking much of it. The same could be said about dogs. Cats never really cared when it came to that though. “I d-do uhhh ph-photography.” She stopped herself there, not wanting to mention that by doing photography, she actually lived and would probably die by it as well.

Raina had always loved animals, right up along with music - there was her love of animals. The two only falling behind her love for her family and friends of course. So - she had always loved to learn and observe animals, seeing what they were like and what made them tick - honestly the idea of caring for animals might not be a bad one at all, if she couldn't become a musician of course. Of course she had a special love for cats as well, more so now she herself had one to love and care for. So she had done a lot of research about their behaviors - eager to know what makes them tick and a curious wonder over how they might think of the world around them. She gave a small giggle, nodding her head as she gently scratched young Mr. Pickles, "I'd say that sounds about right - Dogs seem more chill than most cats do, they seem content to let us do our thing. I wonder if I can have a dog one day.. maybe after school, I doubt my parents would be okay with me only taking care of a dog through the breaks." It was nice to talk about the things she loved and enjoyed, and she was certainly enjoying talking with Cordelia - the other girl was interesting and certainly seemed very sweet. "That is probably true... I try to think about that a lot, I mean.. to some animals - magic or not, we must seem pretty scary - big and scary compared to some little ones." She gently nodded to her cat who was now asleep and purring up a storm, "I don't think I have ever met a cat that seems scared though - it's like they think they can take on the world with their tiny sharp claws." she hummed slightly before looking back at the other girl with a curious smile, "Photography? That's so cool! What do you like taking pictures of? Do you prefer moving pictures or the still ones?" While it certainly wasn't something she herself loved - she was eager to learn more, and from her own experience she knew it could be fun to talk about the things you loved yourself.
