Rosie got the news along with every other Hogwarts student 3 days ago. Both the Beauxbatons carriage and the Durmstrang ship were attacked and exploded on their way home by terrorists, apparently, not aligned with the group who caused the attacks and kidnappings last year. Rosie couldn’t believe that something like this had happened two years in a row. People had lost their lives towards the end of the year twice now. All year long she had a bad feeling that something was going to happen. She heard the stories that her mother told her of the tri-wizard tournament that took place while she was a student, during which, a Hufflepuff boy died. And now so many individuals were dead.
Luckily, Brandon Fisher, Rosie’s boyfriend and good friend, was not listed among the dead, but instead among the injured. He was one of the lucky ones that survived thanks to the quick response from the Ministry and the magical task force that appeared on the scene almost immediately. All of the students had been sent home early and final exams had been canceled for the year. Rosie got home yesterday and today she used her family home's connection to the floo network to get to St. Mungo’s hospital in London where Brandon, and the other students were being treated. She followed the signs to the proper wing and floor and a kind nurse pointed her into the proper room. Rosie took a breath outside the door before knocking on it and then opening it slowly.

Brandon hated every second of this, of being stuck in St. Mungo's, unable to move. Apparently there were a quite a few different things the healers had to do before they could start re-growing his spine, which shattered in the explosion. Things like removing all the tiny pieces of bone and make sure his other wounds were healing. He just wanted to be done with all of this, but he wasn't. He was stuck with absolutely nothing to do. One thing he was glad for was that he wasn't in a room all by himself. He would've gone insane. He still kind of was going insane, even with Adonia there to talk to. The pain wasn't terrible, thanks to all the potions they were giving him, but Brandon still felt very uncomfortable. He also missed Rosie. He knew that if everything had gone right and the ship not attacked, he wouldn't have seen her the last few days, but he thought of her frequently, even mentioned her a few times to Adonia, but he mostly kept his thoughts to himself. Was she worried about him? Did she know he was alive? When she got out of school would she visit him? he had no idea. He heard someone knock on the door and called, "Come in," wishing he could turn and see who hit was. "Who is it?" he asked, forcing a smile to his face so as to not worry whoever it was. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie heard his voice when she opened the door and her heart already felt broken. Could she really do this? Maybe it would be better for everyone if she just let a nurse take in the flowers she had brought for her and she stayed out here. She didn't want to cause a scene, she didn't want to make it all about her. She was fragile. She had always been a very fragile, emotional person. But right now, she knew she couldn't be, and she didn't want to be. She wanted to be strong and wanted to be able to keep a smile on her face even while seeing him in the hospital bed. He had been there for her when she was in the hospital wing at the school so she could be there for him now, right? Holding the bouquet in her hand she walked into the room fully, seeing him there and not really paying attention to anything else in the room yet. "Hi Brandon, it's me." she said, walking over to his bed, hoping that his injuries hadn't impacted his brain or memory and he at least remembered his girlfriend. "I uh... I brought you flowers..." she said, feeling silly for saying anything. How could words do anything right now? He was lying there, still, un-moving. What would flowers do? Rosie hadn't heard exactly what happened, she didn't know the full extent of his injuries, she was just happy when the professor told her that he was among the living that she hadn't asked.

Brandon wished he could turn his neck and at least look to see who was entering the room. Laying here doing nothing was honestly driving him crazy. He just didn't know how long he'd be able to do it, though he also didn't have a choice. His biggest fear was that they wouldn't be able to fix him and he'd end up being paralyzed like this for the rest of his life. If that happened, then all his hopes and dreams would be gone in an instant. However, when he heard the soft voice of the person joining him, a relieved smile covered his face. "Rosie," he responded cheerfully, waiting for her to walk into his line of sight. "Thank you," he said when she mentioned the flowers. He could ... kind of see them, but he was glad for the thought. He'd been thinking about her a ton during the past few days, worrying about whether or not she would know he was alive, if she'd come visit or what she would do. He was glad she was here. "Thanks for coming," he added. "How are you, Rosie." Sure, he was on the hospital bed, but he was more worried about her emotional state than his own. That was just how he felt right now. rose harriet granger-weasley

This was weird. Rosie felt so out of place. He couldn’t turn his head to look at her. She had to walk over to him and carefully position herself in his line of site which was something she’d have to get used to. “Can I just set them here?” she asked about the flowers, while setting them on a small table next to his bed. He was laying in a hospital bed in a sterile looking room. Had his family been here yet? She had to imagine that they had. She was standing next to him but leaned in a little so he could see her. “How are you feeling?” she knew that was a stupid question, but she wanted to know if he was in pain or if the healers had been giving him potions for the pain. “I’m fine.” Rosie insisted. She wasn’t sure if she was, but it wasn’t about her right now. She had been learning, over the past few days since she got the news, that while it was okay to cry like she did, that she and Brandon were some of the lucky ones. He had survived, even if he was currently in the hospital, one day he’d be out. “Can I sit? Will I hurt you?” she asked. She wanted to kiss him but she didn’t want to hurt him, she wanted to touch him and hug him, but he just seemed too fragile.

She asked if she could set them somewhere and Brandon was annoyed- once again- that he couldn't look and see where she meant. Still, he figured it was on a counter or something beside his bed. "Yeah, that's just fine Rosie," he said, the corners of his lips turning up when he said her name. Then she was there! He could see her leaning over him and his eyes brightened and his smile widened in relief. He could see her, which meant he wasn't making this up. She really was here and he was so glad. He tried to shrug when she asked how he was feeling, but his shoulders didn't obey his command and the small bit of his face that was under his control flinched. "I'm all right. I just can't move. It's ... hard." He closed his eyes for a second as the thought that had been plaguing him since he awoke returned to him. "Rose ..." he hesitated, not wanting to burden her with that question. "Never mind." He opened his eyes, his expression softening when she said she was okay. She wasn't. He could tell, and felt guilty because he knew it was likely that one of the reasons she wasn't okay was because of him. Him being injured hurt her. He wished it didn't, but it did. She asked if she could sit or if she'd hurt him. Ugh, he wanted to shrug again! "You won't hurt me, go ahead and sit. I ... can't feel anything from any of my limbs yet." He hated admitting that, but this was Rosie, his girlfriend and he didn't want to lie to her. He wouldn't. rose harriet granger-weasley

Asking him how he was had been a very stupid question. Of course he wasn’t doing alright. He was in the hospital, he couldn’t move, she kept walking in and out of his sight without even realizing it. If she had known, or realized, she would have paid it more mind. She kept trying to push her feelings out of her mind, she wanted to be there for her boyfriend, she didn’t want to make this all about her. She set the flowers down and then sat down when he insisted that she wouldn’t hurt him. He couldn’t feel anything. Her heart hurt for him. How someone so good and perfect could have been caught up in something so bad and scary she had no idea. The Universe was cruel to involve him in these attacks. She sat next to him, making sure he could see her. She set her hand on his chest, gently, knowing he couldn’t feel it though, she just wanted to be touching him. “I’m sorry I couldn’t get here sooner. I tried. They canceled the rest of the school year and all exams, we were all sent home yesterday.” she explained to him. She had hoped that she would have been able to come and see him when she found out about the explosions and that he was alive, but instead she was made to wait. She hated waiting. “But I can be here now. Everyday if you want...I don’t want you to have to be alone.” she insisted.

He saw her reach forward and touch him, but of course he couldn't feel it. Ugh, this whole thing was ridiculous. All he wanted was the chance to enjoy some quality time with his girlfriend. School was now out and everyone should be celebrating and having a good time, but no. He was stuck in a hospital, unable to move anything except his eyes and face muscles. They kept telling him he should be grateful for that. A part of him just wished he was in a coma until they had his body physically fixed. Then again, Brandon knew that was selfish of him. Rosie, for one, would probably be much more freaked out if he couldn't move at all. He tried to shake his head at her apology before being reminded that he couldn't. "You're fine. They wouldn't let anyone in for the longest time. Something about needing to be stable," he told her. "I was out of it for a long time. I think more than a day ... not exactly sure though." He frowned, wishing he could remember more, but he couldn't. The first thing he really remembered was waking up and hearing Adonia not far away. Why was she being so quiet now? Then Rosie said that she could be here everyday and his smile returned. "I'd love for you to come. As often as you want." He hesitated, "but I don't want to be a burden to you either ... I know this can't be easy. Thank you for coming." Whatever else, Brandon wanted to be sure that Rosie knew he was glad she came. He wanted her around as often as she could be. Just being around her made this feel a bit better. rose harriet granger-weasley

He couldn’t feel her touch and she could see it on his face. It was heartbreaking, how anyone could target a group of young adults on their way to their own graduation, she had no idea. How anyone, even a unsympathetic political group could explore two groups of foreign visiting students, or, how a terrorist group could kill muggle born kids specifically, she couldn’t understand. Kids were kids and not yet had any place in politics. The world was a darker place than she ever thought possible. But again, she knew they were lucky in the grand scheme of things, which was equally awful to think. How anyone with a shattered spine could be considered lucky, she had no idea. It was despicable. “Yeah it’s been a few days.” she nodded when he said he wasn’t sure how long he was out before he woke up. She had heard he was in a coma, but the counselor wasn’t able to tell her much else since they weren’t family. She knew they were just doing their job, protecting the rights to privacy of the injured, but Rosie hated the counselor in that moment.
“I want to be here. Being with you isn’t a burden, Brandon. I like being with you… no matter the circumstance…” she insisted. Of course, she’d rather be with him walking the streets of London, hand in hand, or listening to him play guitar again. But, if that had to pause for a few weeks, she’d survive, and so would he. And in the meantime she’d make sure she was always available to be with him. She didn’t have a job, and her parents understood that he was important to her. She was getting to know the floo network pretty well. “You need company, you shouldn’t expect to be along here. Have your family been by?” she asked. She hadn’t yet noticed the other bed in the room, poking out from the separating curtain.

She admitted that he had been out for a few days and Brandon tried to nod again and then grimaced. How was it that one never noticed the subconscious gestures they made until they could no longer make them? The entire thing was more frustrating than he cared to admit. "I'm sorry. I know you were probably worried. I wish I could have done something to help." He knew it wasn't his fault, of course, but Brandon wasn't used to having someone that wasn't his family worry over him. He liked knowing that Rosie cared, but he hated the idea that his pain hurt her too. He gave a small smile when she said that she wanted to be with him. "Thanks Rosie," he said. "It means a lot that you came. You can come back any time you want, I'll make sure they know that." Honestly, he wasn't exactly sure how much influence his wishes would have with the healers in charge, but hopefully they'd continue to let Rosie in to visit with him. "Yes, my dad got here first, while I was still critical. Everyone else came while I was in the coma. They'll be back, but I haven't seen them yet. My dad was here when I woke up today." Waking up to see his dad was a nice feeling, but also alarming. It wasn't what he expected and was the first indication that something was wrong with him. Having his dad explain his predicament was good though. He freaked out less listening to his father. "Were there any other attacks? Other than on the Beauxbatons and us?" He worried that maybe the students at Hogwarts were attacked and that people he knew got hurt as well. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie shook her head when Brandon started to apologize. She couldn’t fathom the idea of him feeling bad for her right now. He hadn’t done anything wrong, and the fact that there were people in the world who would target innocent students on their way home disgusted her. It wasn’t his fault by any means, and he didn’t want him to feel like anything was on him. “No. It’s okay. I’m fine. You needed to be focusing on healing and taking care of your body.” She knew that he had been asleep for most of the last few days, which was probably for the best since when he was asleep he was probably spared from any pain or suffering.
Rosie nodded when he said that she should come back as much as she wanted. She had the idea that she’d be spending a lot of time here over the next couple of weeks. Or until he either told her to go home, or he was out of the hospital. He explained that his family had already been around to see him, which put her a little more at ease, she hadn’t thought that she would be the first to see him, but she knew his dad lived far away and she hoped he’d be able to get here. “That’s good. I’m glad they all came.” Rosie nodded. She didn’t know his family well, they had met in passing on the train platform once or twice when he was still a Hogwarts student, but nothing formal. Now seemed like an awkward time to meet them, but since she didn’t plan on leaving anytime soon, it might happen, she pondered. “No.” she shook her head. “Hogwarts is fine. Everyone there is okay…” okay was a weird way to put it. Most people were distraught with the loss of their friends and family. However, the castle still stood and the students remained living. “Do you need anything, is there anything I can get you?” she asked.

Rosie obviously didn't want him feeling bad about things, but that didn't take it away immediately. He hated the idea of people worrying over them. Yes, that was kind of a given when one was in an attack like this, but that didn't mean that Brandon liked it at all. He sighed, wishing he could do something. "Thanks for understanding, Rosie," he said, giving her a small smile. He hoped that she knew he appreciated her being here. He'd have to bring that up before she left, just to make sure she did. He smiled a little more as they talked about his family. "Me too. I think it was good for them to see how I'm doing." Which wasn't too great, but it also wasn't critical. Brandon seemed to have gotten past the really bad stages, though he didn't entirely understand how since he still couldn't move a thing. Wow, he needed to calm down. Deep breaths, Brandon. He sighed in relief when she told him that Hogwarts wasn't attacked. Well that was one good thing out of all of this. At least the damages weren't to every school. It diminish the losses from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, but at least there weren't more casualties. He thought for a moment when she asked if he needed anything. He didn't really, but he also didn't want her to be here and feel useless. "Maybe a drink? I don't care if it's water or juice, or whatever they'll let me have." He hesitated, hoping that wasn't too awkward of a request. It was only after he asked for a drink that he realized she'd have to help him drink it. He couldn't hold the cup. Man, he hated being an invalid. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie knew that this wasn’t going to be an easy few weeks for anyone. At least not anyone affected by these terrible attacks. And they were quite terrible indeed. Leaving a handful of students hospitalized and the rest dead. What the families of the victims would have to be feeling and going through right now was a terrible thought. Truly terrible. They were lucky, she constantly had to remind herself. Brandon was still alive and he’d recover and be back to his able bodied self within a matter of weeks. So many people couldn’t say the same. Suddenly, a question popped into Rosie’s head, and she wasn’t really sure if this was the time to ask, given where they were, but also, she felt like she had to. “Um - do you family know about me? I mean, are they going to be surprised if they see me here or anything?” she asked, the last thing she wanted as for his mum to rush in while not knowing that he had a girlfriend and to accidentally cause any family drama.
“I can get you something to drink!” Rosie agreed eagerly. She was sure they had given him some sort of potions to keep his body hydrated, however, hydration and thirst were two different sensations. “I’ll be right back.” she promised and headed out into the hallway and down to the nurses stations in search of something. A nurse insisted that she could come and help him bur Rosie sweet talked her way into them letting her do it by insisting that it was no trouble at all. Within a few days, Rosie would know all of the nurses personally and they would all know her, but she had no way or knowing that now. She carried the water in the paper cup back to his hospital room. “I found water, that seemed to be all they were willing to give at the moment.” she admitted. “Here, we can figure this out.” she insisted with her can-do attitude that she was trying so hard to keep close to the surface. She sat back down beside him and carefully and slowly helped him to get in a position where he could drink without chocking. She helped him drink.

Rosie seemed to get uncomfortable for a moment and Brandon was about to ask her why when she asked her question, if his family knew about her. Brandon grinned at her. He might not be the best at writing people, but his family knew about her. He was fully aware that if he got into a relationship with anyone and didn't tell his parents (yes, both of them even though they were separated), he would be in a mound of trouble. "Of course they know about you." He hoped that answer wouldn't make her feel uncomfortable. "They're probably hoping that they'll get the chance to run into you one of these days," he admitted honestly. He knew both his mother and father were interested in meeting the first girl he'd really dated. "You're not going to let them scare you off, are you?" he teased, winking to make sure she knew he wasn't serious. Winking was one of the few things he could do. She jumped at the chance to get him something to drink and was soon out of the room. Brandon waited for her to come back, breathing deeply. "Adonia?" he called after just a moment, but there was no answer. The girl was probably asleep, which was for the best he supposed. She needed to heal as well. Besides, it wasn't like Rosie would be gone for a long time. He sighed and closed his eyes while he waited. Rosie came in the room minutes later, saying that she found the water, which was the only thing they'd let her give him. "Okay," Brandon said, feeling even more like an invalid when she had to lift the cup to his lips. Rosie was very considerate and let him drink slowly, stopping just when he wanted. "Thanks," he said, not meeting her eyes after she pulled the cup away. "Sorry about that."

“Oh good. I just didn’t want it to be awkward or anything. I’d love to meet them.” She nodded with a smile when he told her that of course they knew about her. She had been worried for nothing, which wasn’t exactly a new feeling for her. “I also don’t want to be in the way though… so if you want to talk to them or anything and need me to leave. Or get sick of me and want some time alone, please don’t be afraid to just tell me.” she admitted. She wasn’t sure she’d actually leave. Not that she wanted to be weird or clingy, but she had almost lost him once and wanted to be as close to him as possible right now until she was sure he would get out soon and be okay at least.
“Don’t be sorry. I don’t mind helping at all. Whatever you need.” After she had helped him drink, she stood back up to set the cup on the counter across the room when she finally saw the other body. How she had been so oblivious to not notice that someone else was in the room, she wasn’t sure. She had been so focused on Brandon and making sure that he was okay that she hadn’t really checked out the entire room. “Oh. I didn’t even see that you have a roommate…” Rosie admitted, she hadn’t seen who was in the other bed since a curtain was currently about halfway drawn in the room so only the foot of the other bed was visible from where Rosie stood. “Is it another one of the Durmstrang students?” she asked. She hadn’t looked over the list of survivors, as soon as she heard that Brandon was in the hospital, her brain couldn’t focus on anything else and she hadn’t even thought about the others.
