hello there, my name is Pemberly Chase but you can call me Pem. i'm a/an Hufflepuff and 16 so that makes me a sixth year transfer student at Hogwarts. You could say I'm hard working, patient, & loyal but I personally think that I am talkative, contrary, & interesting. People say I look a lot like Isabelle Fuhrman, but I don't really see it...

Pemberly is kind of an odd one to have in Hufflepuff - at first blush, she seems like she might be a better Gryffindor, or even Slytherin. And it’s true the Hat had to think about it. But when it comes down to it, she’s the loyal and protective side of the badger, pretty much 24/7. She’s a good friend to have, because she will defend you with words and her wand if need be.
She’s also a difficult friend to have, because she won’t temper herself to make you feel comfortable. She’s opinionated and often abrasive, but if you worm your way into her contrary little heart, you’re stuck with her for life. And as much as she tries to deny it, a lot of people worm their way into her heart. She just doesn’t necessarily show it obviously.
Pemberly likes to talk. A lot. She’s an attention-seeker, the kind of person who takes up space in a room and draws eyes with ease and comfort. She’s self-confident and charismatic almost to a fault, and cultivates an aura of interestingness. Or at least, she tries. It doesn’t always work out, but if it doesn’t, she’ll generally protest that she was never trying in the first place.

Pemberly was two when their mother walked out on them, or so they’ve been told. Mostly, Pem remembers her childhood with her father and Viola as being pretty happy. A bit weird, and the kind of thing that shouldn't have worked, but it was their life. There were flying visits with their mother, short adventures into the Muggle world filled with musical theatre references that Pem understood only about half the time. Their father worked odd hours hosting his radio show and tending to the increasing publicity that being one of the foremost progressive voices brought. Babysitters - mostly magical, but sometimes Muggle or Squib - filled in the gaps when both were busy. It was childhood in a perpetual state of upheaval, but even though it was kind of chaotic, for her and Viola it was normal.
The chaos didn’t really change when Viola went to Durmstrang, but Pemberly lost her companion through it all, and it felt different. She became more precocious and outgoing to compensate for being the only child at home. Although she'd never admit to feeling abandoned, her relationship with Viola was never quite the same again.
Upon her arrival at Durmstrang, Pemberly made it perfectly clear that if there was anyone who didn’t like what her father had to say on his radio show, then they could fight her. She couldn’t duel worth a damn at the beginning of the year, but she learned fast because she had to, and developed both a flair and a passion for it. She earned a (only partially unjust) reputation as a troublemaker, but she found good friends, and became more-or-less comfortable at school, excepting the detentions for refusing to respond to ‘Miss Chase’. And that was pretty much how it went for four years.
In Pem’s fifth year, Viola was invited to attend the Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts. On the one hand, Pemberly was happy for Viola because it sounded like an excellent adventure. On the other hand, once again Viola was going somewhere fascinating and she wasn’t. It was horribly unfair and poked at old wounds she'd tried to ignore for years. Plus Hogwarts had an air of almost progressive nirvana, and she was dreadfully jealous.
That jealousy was not stopped by Viola not being the Triwizard Tournament Champion, nor was it stopped by rumours of purist actions in the UK. It wasn’t stopped by each story of the Tasks or the Yule Ball (most of which were not from her sibling), and it was made worse by every mention of the Giant Squid.
The jealousy was brought to an abrupt and permanent stop by the explosion of the Durmstrang ship, and the deaths of all but three of the the students. Mercifully, Viola was alive, and the moment Durmstrang shuttered its doors for the year - two weeks early - her father swept her off to England to visit with Viola, and to make a permanent move to a more progressive climate, even with the terrorist threats.
Pem’s not really sure how she feels right now. She wants Viola to get better, because she's terrified Viola will die and leave her behind, and this time it would be permanently. She’s not eager to leave her friends at Durmstrang behind. But most difficult, she’s trying really hard not to be excited about going to Hogwarts, because it may have been what she’s wanted for the past year, but it took something horrible to make it happen. She’s pretty sure she shouldn’t be allowed to be excited.
