It was time for lunch and by a lucky string of coincidences, Jess wasn't actually running errands for anyone! Which meant she actually could enjoy some time to herself, to relax and eat like a normal person, instead of gobbling up all her food as she rushed around doing whatever she was supposed to. The only problem was, this sort of thing happened so infrequently that Jess wasn't exactly sure where she should eat. She could just make things simple and go to the Leaky Cauldron for something, or she could wander around Diagon Alley and find somewhere to eat, or she could go into muggle London and find something there. She couldn't decide. So she was standing on the edge of the street in Diagon Alley, looking around herself and trying to make a decision. She smiled and nodded when she saw people she knew, but they all seemed busy so she didn't try and stop them on their way. Her thoughts flashed to Fin- her boyfriend- and a part of her wished he wasn't working right now. She was certain that he would have come to eat lunch with her if he could, but she wasn't going to try and talk with him when she knew he was working. After a few minutes, she just decided to make her way to the Leaky Cauldron. Jess spun around and took two steps before running into someone hard. She backed up into the wall behind her, shaking her head to get her bearings back before looking at the girl she'd run into. "Oh, I'm so sorry," she started. "I didn't mean to run into you like that, Isolde!"Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine of course, had been tracking Jessavette. She knew that her warnings were not deterring the Mudblood from keeping her grubby little paws off her Finley. He wasn’t her Finley she supposed; their feelings towards each other were purely platonic. It had been the three of them; her Fin and Desi. She suspected that the two of them had fooled around with each other in the past, but as long as they weren’t kept distracted on the greater good, Elaine could have cared less. Desirae was from a well-to-do Pureblooded family, and though there were some...weeds in that particular branch, Desi had always devoutly followed the mantra of Purebloods first. Elaine tried not to think of her deceased best friend, as it made her feel something in her stone cold heart; sadness. Elaine had allowed the anger in the immediate aftermath consume her, and she got her revenge by killing Abigail and Theodorus - though that last one was more of a reflex than anything else. Still, Desirae was one of the two people in the entire universe who Elaine had considered a friend. Now she only had Finley left, and she didn’t want some Mudblood distracting him all the time.
Jess looked a little distracted, like a lost puppy. Elaine had to hold in the insults as she ran smack into her. Instead of course, she put on a dazzling smile and tried her hardest to look happy to see her. “Jess!” she exclaimed, holding out her hands to help Jess steady herself. “Loved the article by the way, you simply have a way with words,” she added, making sure to add a flattering compliment to put the girl more at ease. “It’s no problem at all Jess, I am happy to see you,” she told her, waving a hand dismissively as the girl apologized. “I am on my way to lunch, would you care to join me my dear?” she asked, holding out her arm for Jess to link hers with.

Isolde reached forward and helped Jess get her balance again, grinning as she greeted her. Jess was a little surprised, since most people didn't like being run into by others, even if they knew them, but maybe Isolde was just nice like that. She smiled back, a little embarrassed when the ministry worker complimented her article. "Thanks. It was lots of fun to write. Thanks again for agreeing to meet with me about it." Honestly, her article would have been nothing if the other girl hadn't had time to meet about it. Isolde insisted that Jess running into her wasn't a problem and Jess's smile grew a little more sincere. Then she said she was going to lunch, offering to let Jess join her. Jess smiled and linked her arms with Isolde. "Sure. I was actually trying to think of a place to go for lunch just now," she admitted. "Do you have anywhere you'd prefer?" Jess couldn't help but feel a little bit excited. At least she wasn't going to have to eat on her own anymore. It was always more fun to eat with a friend. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine waved her hand. “Oh it was no trouble at all!” she told the young woman, then nodded when Jess asked if she had a place in mind. “Why I most certainly do - there’s a darling chop house nearby with an outdoor patio and I just couldn’t dream of being stuck indoors for lunch on a gorgeous day like this,” she told her, then gave a laugh. “Of course my dear if you’re a vegetarian, there are options available,” she added, tapping her forefinger to her nose with a little wink.
She led Jess down a few different streets, finally arriving to their destination. The tables outside were all full, but a discreet glance towards the two person table furthest from the door and the couple immediately got up and left. She wasn’t sure if they had paid or not, but she had enough funds on her to cover both parties meals either way. They were lead to this table which was cleared as they both sat down. “Care to get a glass of wine? I love a nice rose during my lunch,” she suggested with a winning grin. Of course, Elaine was not actually in the middle of a work day at the Ministry, so she could drink what she wanted when she wanted it, but she was playing the role of Isolde, a woman just breaking out of her comfort zone, someone Jess could break out alongside.

Jess smiled at the other woman when she insisted that meeting with her for the interview was no problem. She nodded as Isolde mentioned a place where they could eat. "That sounds great to me," she answered easily. Honestly, Jess didn't care where they ate, she was just hungry and couldn't choose where she wanted to go on her own. It was a personal struggle, her dislike for making decisions, but she could do it. She followed Isolde through the streets until they arrived at the place she spoke of. It seemed nice enough and Jess couldn't help but look around. The place seemed busy and she figured it would take a while before they were brought to a table, but instead they were almost immediately seated. Lucky. She asked if Jess wanted a glass of wine and Jess hesitated for a second. She wasn't really one who drank a lot, but Isolde wasn't asking her to drink a lot and a glass of wine shouldn't cause her any problems. "Sure, thank you." She paused for a moment, "How much time do you have for lunch?" She asked. She didn't want to cause the other woman any problems by keeping her here too long. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine shrugged when Jess asked how long she had for lunch. “Oh darling after organizing the tournament my days have been a breeze. Our bosses are going rather easy on us until next month when we have to organize something else,” she said with a shrug. Of course, Jess had no idea about anything Elaine herself had planned, and Elaine was not intending on letting anything slip. One wrong word, one blurted statement and everything could be ruined. Months of planning, negotiations and back and forth communications would be all for naught. No, Elaine simply could not have that. She smiled as Jess ordered the glass of wine; she was glad to see the girl loosen up a bit. She was a bit straight laced, too professional; the easier Jess found it to talk to Elaine the better. Not that Jess would be able to give her anything useful, but she did hate to see Fin waste his time on this Muggleborn. She had to know what exactly it was that intrigued him so. The wine arrived and Elaine held up her class. “To the start of a beautiful summer,” she toasted, clinking glasses with Jess’ before taking a sip. It tasted alright; nothing like the wine Evie had brought her last week, but it would do. She set down her wine glass and folded her hands in front of her. “So Jess, tell me,” she started, eyes glinting eagerly. “Have there been any developments with that boy you spoke of during our interview?” she asked, not bothering to beat around the bush. She had told Isolde a few things about Fin, so if Jess ever ran into the real Isolde on the street there’d be no confusion. Besides, getting her side of things didn’t hurt.

Jess nodded as Isolde explained that she could be out for lunch as long as she wanted. "I'm not in a rush either," she admitted. All the big writers at the Daily Prophet had a big meeting today it was supposed to start and lunch and take several hours. They wouldn't need or want her hanging around until it was over. She smiled as the other girl's words penetrated her mind. "Is it Something specific or just that you're always planning things?" She wondered what it would be like to work at the ministry like Isolde. Jess was good at writing, but she wasn't sure she would do a good job planning events or creating tasks like Isolde did. It sounded hard. Isolde offered a toast and Jess smiled, "Summer," she echoed, tapping glasses with Elaine before trying the wine. Jess wasn't a big drinker, so she probably wouldn't even finish this glass, but it tasted fine to her. The girl seemed to get serious as she lowered her glass and looked at Jess intently. Then she asked about Fin. Jess felt a little uneasy, though she didn't know why. She forced the feeling away and smiled, "We went on a few dates." Jess smiled at the memory of what happened the night before. "Last night he asked me to date him," she admitted, her smile widening at the memory of him holding her so protectively, kissing her fiercely. She came back, focusing on the girl in front of her and blushing. Now was not the time to be daydreaming about Finley O'Neill, no matter how he made her feel. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine smiled at Jess. “Nothing too concrete yet, right now we’re concentrating on the victims at Saint Mungos, and working with their Ministries to ensure they all can get home as soon as it is feasible,” she explained, putting on a somber expression. It was true for the most part; the Ministry of course wanted those who actually survived the explosions to get home as soon as possible. A small tidbit they were not aware of however was that there was one more survivor - Maria da Silva Povoa. She was currently hidden away, under the impression that all of her classmates had died on the ship, but soon enough she would be released back into the real world and find out the truth.
Speaking of truths, Elaine leaned forward slightly as Jess began to talk about Fin. She already knew that the girl had been on a few dates with him of course, as she had left a few...warning gifts for Jess in her apartment. The girl did not seem to be able to take the hint however, because she kept seeing him regardless. She didn’t know whether or not that was brave, or stupid. Jess blushed, and Elaine let out a girlish giggle. “Oh how romantic!” she said, trying to hide the venom in her voice. Fin was hers after all; though not in a romantic way. Elaine didn’t really see anyone that way, though she had her occasional dalliances. She did not need any of that kind of distraction when she took over the wizarding world. “So you’re official now then? You can call him your boyfriend,” she prided, smiling widely as if she was truly happy for Jess and not internally screaming.

Jess nodded when Isolde explained that her department was trying to help the victims of the recent attacks at the moment. Her smile fell as she thought about those poor students. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to lose so many friends so suddenly, and she didn't want to imagine it either. It was a terrible tragedy. "That makes sense. Are the survivors ... healing well?" she asked, now that she was thinking about them. She hoped the attack hadn't injured any of them permanently. That would make a bad thing even worse. Isolde leaned forward, obviously very interested as Jess started talking about Fin. She didn't say much about their relationship, not really knowing how much she wanted to disclose, but Isolde seemed satisfied, saying that it was romantic. "I think so," Jess nodded as she agreed with the girl. The previous night with Fin was so romantic Jess was having a hard time focusing at work today. She hadn't made any big mistakes though, so it was fine. Jess' smile widened, "Yeah. I mean, I believe so. We talked about it and decided to date." Fin also called them boyfriend and girlfriend, so that meant it was official, didn't it? Maybe she and Fin should clarify that, just in case she misunderstood somehow. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine shrugged nonchalantly. “As well as expected I suppose. There’s one survivor who...well, they’ve gone mute because their loved one died in the explosion,” she admitted, shaking her head in mock sympathy. Of course Viola did not realize that Maria was still alive; how could they? Maria was still holed up in her safe house, truly believing she was the sole survivor of these attacks. Oh, she’d reunite them eventually, but Viola needed to speak first. That was the test; it would prove that Viola was taking the steps to move on from their “dead” lover. And then...well, Maria would come back from the dead of course! Oh she was looking forward to what sort of chaos would be caused by that. She had heard from her sources (now unfortunately one of the deceased) that Maria had a...collection of lovers; imagine their surprise when she came back to the world of the living.
Elaine nodded, the ugly monster of jealousy rearing its head within her. She was not jealous of Jess in a romantic sense; Elaine was not exactly the romantic type. She had shunned those kind of relationships all her life, preferring brief physical intimacy with a varied cast over those lovey dovey, holding hands type of deal. But it was more that...well, Fin was the last person in the world that she had felt she could put her whole trust in. She had given him permission to do what he liked with Jess in a physical sense. This however, was something much more. She could tell from the look on Jess’s face that she was at least falling in love with him. And that was simply unacceptable. “He just sounds perfect,” she exclaimed, trilling lightly. “I wonder if a man so perfect has any...skeletons in his closet,” she questioned leadingly.

Jess' mouth fell open as Isolde explained what happened to one of the students, mute because she lost a loved one in the attack. "Oh, that's terrible," she whispered. Her mind instantly flittered to Fin, trying to imagine how she would feel if something happened to him randomly, if she'd never be able to see him again. Just the thought hurt. "I can't imagine having to go through something as hard as the attack, much less the loss that came from it." She watched the woman in front of her, suddenly glad that she didn't have Isolde's job. Sure, as a writer she would sometimes have to write about hard things, things that hit home, but she wasn't as close to this as Isolde was. That must be hard. "Have you interacted with the survivors?" she asked, curious. The other woman nodded at Jess' words, saying that Fin sounded perfect. Jess shrugged, "Well, we only recently started seeing one another." Her tone was cautious. She knew she had strong feelings for Fin, but she didn't know if she wanted everyone to know that. Then she mentioned wondering if Fin had skeletons in his closet and Jess frowned. She understood the inference, but didn't like the implications. "No one is perfect," she answered slowly, "but Fin is a good person. I trust him." She trusted him more than she expected to, since she'd only known him a short while. It felt right though. "Besides, everyone makes mistakes and I don't think anyone wants to start talking about those when they first meet someone." Jess smiled, trying to lighten the mood. "I think it'll be fun to learn more about him." Especially since that meant spending more time with him, which was definitely something Jess wanted to do. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine sighed and put on her best look of sympathy. “Yes, this particular girl was...dear to plenty of the Durmstrang students, so as a favor we did an additional search for the girl but alas, it was in vain. Perhaps one day they can take the steps to move on from their dearly departed friends, and remember them fondly.” And then Maria could come back into society. Speaking of Maria. “Oh a bit. Some of them were quite...catatonic when they came in, and struggled to accept the loss that had befallen on them. They are starting to progress though, both physically and mentally.” She had heard about the girl with the Empathic Touch - she could just touch someone and relieve their mental anguish, taking some of it on herself. She’d be an interesting test subject if she could be taken, however it seemed as though she was protected. Perhaps one day.
Elaine could tell Jess was beginning to feel uncomfortable with the implication that Fin had something he was hiding. He did of course, it was sitting right in front of Jess’s nose - quite literally! “I do not mean to imply he’s less than perfect my dear,” she said slowly, setting down her menu. “I simply mean that...men, or women for that matter, who seem that perfect usually are not. Just be careful if you ever find out why he’s not perfect.” A simple warning that could be taken multiple says but Elaine doubted it would be taken in the way she was personally implying. The waiter came over, and Elaine took the opportunity to order her lunch. “Chicken Caesar Wrap please, and go easy on the dressing,” she ordered.

Jess frowned as Isolde continued to explain more about the girl that was lost and the struggles that all of the students were going through. She shook her head sadly, really not knowing what to say. "I can't even begin to imagine," she responded softly. Jess didn't want to try to imagine it either. "I'm glad they're starting to progress though." Still, Jess doubted the progress was substantial since the attack was fairly recent. They were probably all still struggling quite a bit with it. Isolde seemed to take back a little of what she'd been saying, mostly just warning Jess to be careful to not think that Fin was perfect. She nodded. That was definitely something she could do and probably should. It wasn't healthy to paint a picture of someone that wasn't real and she didn't want to put Fin in that kind of a situation either. "I'll try to be careful," she answered, wondering if that would satisfy Isolde, who seemed particularly interested in this relationship for some reason. Her friend ordered and then Jess looked up at the waiter and smiled. "I'll have a club sandwich," she said, handing her menu to the waiter as she looked back to Isolde. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine recognized that Jess wasn’t getting the picture that Fin wasn’t entirely hers to have to herself. Since she could not very well spell out that Fin was a purifier and Elaine’s best friend without blowing her cover, she went for the next best thing; a lie. “My dear, it may seem a bit...odd that I am persisting on this matter,” she began, smoothing her napkin on her lap. She looked down, as if to regain composure, then looked back up at Jess, maintaining eye contact. “You just remind me of myself when I was around your age. I met a boy during my early days at the Ministry, and like your Fin we felt this instant...chemistry. When we were together, it felt like we were the only two people on this Earth. He was nearly ten years older than me, but age was just a number. It was...perfect.” Elaine paused her story, and sighed dreamily before allowing the smile on her face to fade away.
“However, two months in I made the most awful discovery; he was a Death Eater. I do not know to this day if he was a full Death Eater or not, as he did not have the tattoo but...well let’s just say when Voldemort took over the Ministry he benefited immensely. Needless to say it did put a rather abrupt end on our relationship.” Elaine clucked her tongue in disapproval. “Not that I am saying your boyfriend is a...new Death Eater? Whatever they’re calling themselves,” she said quickly, waving a hand. “But just...I do hope you don’t repeat the same mistakes I did,” she told her, trying to sound motherly and worried. As if on cue, their food arrived and Elaine began to eat in silence. The food here wasn’t bad, so at least she was getting a decent lunch out of this outing.

Apparently what Jess said wasn't enough for Isolde, because a few moments later she started talking about it again. Jess was so confused about this, not understanding why Isolde seemed so against her dating Fin. Then again, at the same time she seemed to be starting to get emotional ... what was going on? She started talking again, explaining that she had a similar experience, finding someone she connected with instantly. Jess listened carefully, starting to feel a little nervous. Where was she going with this? Jess bit her lip as she listened to Isolde talk about how her boyfriend was a Death Eater. Her mouth fell open in surprise. She was about to say something, but the woman didn't give her a chance to before she continued, telling Jess to not make the same mistakes. Jess took a deep breath, not really knowing what to say to her story. "I'm ... I'm sorry you went through that. Thanks for being so concerned for me," She hesitated, not really sure what to say now. "I'll pay attention, but I trust Fin. He wouldn't do something like that to me." Then the food was there and Jess looked at her sandwich, starting to eat it right away. She wasn't sure what Isolde would want to talk about anymore, but was nervous about how this conversation would progress. She didn't want to think of Fin that way. She trusted him. Elaine Lyra Dupree
