Elaine reached over and took her hand, squeezing it before letting it drop. "Then you keep tight to him my dear," she told her passionately. Inside though she had so many thoughts tumbling through her brain. Merlin, this girl didn't have the foggiest idea what her boyfriend was like did she? She hadn't paid him much attention in Hogwarts, she wouldn't know that Fin ran around with herself and Desirae for years. Thick as thieves the three of them had been. Now Desirae was dead, and Fin was running around with this little trollop. Was there nothing sacred anymore? She would get the surprise of her lifetime when Fin's allegiances were revealed to her. And they would be, all in good time.
She finished her sandwich in silence, taking a few sips of her wine in between. "Let's talk about something else dear. How is your internship with the Prophet going? Loved the article you wrote about the Tournament by the way," she asked, resting her chind on her palm and looking over at her.

Isolde seemed to sense Jess' discomfort, which wasn't that big of a surprise since Jess wasn't really hiding it at all. She reached forward, taking Jess' hand and telling her to hold tight to Fin. Jess gave a small smile, "I will." Still, she didn't like all the things Isolde suggested, especially in regards to Fin. Sure, she only started doing things with him recently, but she cared about him. She was sure that if he were involved with Elaine and her purebloods that he would have no interest whatsoever in her. After all, she was a muggleborn herself. Jess decided to then focus on her food a bit more, hoping that when the two talked once more it would be about something different. She smiled when Isolde changed the subject, changing it to work. "I like the Daily Prophet," she answered honestly. "Being an intern isn't as rewarding as I'd hoped, but in a few months I should get promoted to a full employee. I'm not quite sure which department I want to write for, but I'll honestly probably just take whatever is offered." She smiled at Isolde's compliment about her article. "Thank you again for your interview. It helped immensely." Jess took another bit of her sandwich, feeling a lot more relaxed now. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine was screaming at the girl, completely silently and internally of course. Across Isolde’s face was just a mask of underlying concern and care for the girl as she ventured out in becoming a woman. But why with Fin? Fin was HERS. Not in a romantic sense of course, she didn’t feel romantically inclined towards ANYONE. But Fin was her best friend, her only friend really now that Desirae was dead. She wouldn’t allow this Mudblood to take Fin away from her. Even if it meant hurting Fin, he’d only hurt for a little bit, and then he’d get over it. He’d see that whatever Elaine had to resort to was for the greater good, for the Purifiers and for him. She knew he’d be mad if anything permanent happened to the girl, and though it was so very tempting, Elaine resisted the urge to wrap her hands around Jessavette’s throat and squeeze the life out of her, ending this threat once and for all. This place was far too public for that anyway; even she wouldn’t get away with murder at a small bistro table.
“Oh of course my dear, any time,” Elaine said, sounding slightly distracted. “Forgive me, I was just...reminiscing about old times,” she added, feigning an explanation for her aloof nature. “Surely you must have some sort of inclination towards what you’d like to write about?” she pried, tilting her head to one side as she propped her cheek on her chin. Perhaps she’d want to cover international stories, which would take her out of the country a lot. That would be a safer way to eliminate the threat.

Isolde seemed distracted and Jess couldn't help but wonder if maybe the woman preferred to eat on her own. Or maybe she was having a hard time thinking about that man who betrayed her all those years ago. Jess couldn't help but feel a little bit guilty, since she thought about it while warning Jess about Fin. Fin. No, she reminded herself. Fin wouldn't do anything like that to her. She was almost positive he wouldn't. Then Isolde apologized and Jess smiled, shaking her head, "Oh, it's no problem. Really." So she had been thinking about that man. Jess felt her guilt rise a little, even though she didn't ask Isolde to relive those memories. She shrugged a little bit at Isolde's next question. "I have a few positions that I think I would like more than others," she admitted, though she didn't like to think on this very much. She didn't want to get her hopes up just to get them dashed. She bit her lip and then continued, "Mostly, I'm hoping I'll be able to cover Quidditch. I love the sport and I think it would be the most fun." She paused a moment, trying to keep her thoughts open. "It's more likely I'll be assigned as a general journalists. Then I'll cover whatever the editor wants me to." Jess wasn't particularly excited about that idea, but it was the most likely option so she was trying to get herself used to the idea. Elaine Lyra Dupree

Elaine could tell Jess was trying to remain neutral in her desire to go into a specific area of journalism, but it was obvious that Quidditch was her forte. “Did you play at Hogwarts?” she asked her curiously, before taking another bite of her sandwich. “I did not; I have an awful fear of heights, so good on you if you can handle them,” she added after swallowing, chuckling a bit at herself. Elaine of course, wasn’t afraid of anything, but Isolde had revealed during one of their...sessions her fear of heights, which was great ammunition in case she ever acted out. Not that Isolde realized she had revealed this, but Elaine hadn’t had to use that information yet.
“Why don’t I put out some feelers at the Ministry; surely one of them have connections with the Sports writers over at the Prophet, and can put in a good word for you?” she suggested, taking the final bite of her sandwich and dabbing her lips with her napkin daintily. “It’s the least I can do for you after not printing some of the side comments I said during our interview,” she added, as if Jess’s discretion was appreciated. In a way, it was, but Elaine had purposely been letting certain bits of information slip to turn the wheels of the girls mind. The bill came and Elaine paid the check. “On me my dear,” she insisted, signing the receipt with a flourish. “I must be getting on though, my lunch hour is drawing to a close but I’ll be in touch about that contact,” she told her with a wink. Of course, Elaine wouldn’t be doing anything like that, but what Jess didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her.

Jess smiled when Isolde asked if she played Quidditch at Hogwarts and nodded. "Yeah, I was a Chaser for a few years. Didn't become captain or anything, but I really enjoyed it." She frowned slightly when the other girl explained that she had a fear of heights. "Oh, I'm sorry." She didn't really know what else to say and a part of her wanted to ask if Isolde was just scared of flying on brooms or if she didn't like any heights, but the girl looked uncomfortable so Jess wasn't going to ask about it. Her smile widened again when her friend said she could put in a good word for her. "Oh yes, please! That would be great!" Of course, Jess didn't want Isolde to feel like she only talked with her because she hoped the older woman would help her, but it was a nice addition to their friendship. Jess was a little nervous about what she would be assigned to. She didn't want to go international because that would mean leaving Finley more than she wanted to. Doing Quidditch reports would be way better, and much more something she enjoyed. Jess laughed softly at her friend's other comment. "Oh, it was no problem. The article was just fine without them." Jess knew journalists often got a bad wrap for not respecting other's wishes when it came to what was published. Isolde paid for the meal and Jess opened her mouth to argue, but didn't want to seem rude. Then she said she had to leave and Jess smiled. "Alright, well thanks for the meal and the conversation. It was nice to see you. And thanks again for putting a word in for me!" Isolde walked off and Jess rose to her feet as well, making her way back to the Daily Prophet. --- the end --- Elaine Lyra Dupree
