Jess was more excited than she probably should be. She was meeting with Tamara today, a good friend from school and a fellow intern at the Daily Prophet. The good news was, they weren't at work right now! They made plans to meet after work today to get some ice cream and just catch up. Of course, you would think that working together, they would have plenty of time to talk with one another, but that was not really the case. Both of them ended up running around enough that they didn't really get the chance to converse at all, which was a little disappointing, but also just a part of life. It was fine. The good thing was that they had a chance to talk today and she actually had something she was excited to talk to her friend about. Fin. In a short time, he'd become one of the most important people in her life, and her boyfriend, and she wanted someone to talk to about that. So she waited outside the ice cream parlor. Since they were going to eat ice cream together, Jess might as well wait for Tamara to arrive before ordering. Besides that, it was such a nice day that she was completely comfortable waiting for her friend outside.

Sometimes working at the Daily Prophet, even as an internet, made her feel like a chicken with her head chopped off. She was constantly doing this, as was everyone else, and it felt like they were just there as little working bees for the paper. She loved it though; she got a chance to sit down and write in quiet. But today, today was different. She had run into Jess, a good friend from school and someone who also worked at the paper. It wasn’t like this was the first time they had run into each other, they did it very often, but today was different because they decided to finally go out together and sort of catch up. It wasn’t something that Tamara was waiting for, she knew Jess was just as busy as she was, but she was rather excited. The two of them had been on the Quidditch team together, and Jess was one of the best that had been on the team, among others, and just like Tamara, had decided that playing professionally just wasn’t the path for them. She was just on time, making it to the local ice cream parlor where she and Jess were supposed to meet up, and when she got there, she quickly noticed Jess waiting for her. She quickly smiled, waving at her as she walked over, “Hey Jess,” she smiled brightly once standing before her.

Jess grinned when she saw her friend approaching the ice cream shop and waved back at her. "Tamara!" Seeing her friend like this, outside of work, brought back loads of good memories. Tamara was a little older than Jess, but they played on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team together for a few years and became friends through that. Jess couldn't help but remember all the conversations the two had while in school, about tactics for games, assignments for school and, of course, boys. Tamara was one of the people Jess felt like she really trusted, someone who knew her. "So how are you doing? Outside of work, of course," Jess said with a laugh. She saw Tamara enough at the Prophet to feel confident that the two felt about the same way about it. They were both running around as interns, but slowly moving up in the place. "Let's get some ice cream and then come back out here so we can talk." Jess led the way into the place, staring at the list of flavors curiously. She loved getting ice cream, but was always in a mood for something different. The question was, what did she want today?

Tamara had made friends with Jess long before she was with Ethan, and while she loved the friends that she made for her late ex-boyfriend, she enjoyed that the company of friends that she made through other means as well. Jess had been on the Quidditch team when she had been, that was how they met and slowly became friends, they had a lot more in common than just the sport that they played. Now that they worked together, Tamara found herself having old memories come back, though they barely saw each other unless it was for a quick second inside the Prophet’s halls. Tamara smiled, “I’m doing well, trying to destress from the endless hours. I thought Quidditch took a lot out of you, in comparison to the Prophet, boy was I wrong,” she said with a small laugh, “What about you?” she questioned with a smile. Jess quickly suggested the idea of getting ice cream and then coming back to talk, and she nodded her head, “Sounds like a plan,” she said with excitement as the two entered the cool parlor filled with delicious treats. She looked through the glass at the flavors, wondering just which one she wanted, she knew that she wanted a cone. It wasn’t long before she landed on her favorite kind, and just what the doctor ordered. “I’ll have a coconut and chocolate cone, please,” she said once it was her turn, her attention moving towards Jess as she waited for her ice cream. “What kind are you getting?” she questioned the other girl with a smile.

Jess was glad that she had the chance to spend some time with Tamara. The two were often so busy that getting together like this wasn't possible, but they made it work and she was glad. She felt like Tamara was a good friend. She laughed when Tamara said she was trying to destress herself. "I know, right?" Jess laughed a little. "I mean, I thought I was tired after practices, but man I get so much more exhausted running around doing things for others." That didn't mean she didn't like her job. Jess did, but it was a bit stressful, trying to do exactly what everyone wanted her to. Hopefully once she became a real writer it wouldn't be as bad, but there were no guarantees. If she hated it, maybe she'd quit and try writing a book or something. Hopefully she'd like it though. She grinned when Tamara agreed to ice cream and they both made their way over to the shop. Jess looked at the flavors, trying to decide what she wanted. "I'll have a cone with a scoop of fudge and a scoop of mint." She moved to stand beside her friend as they waited for the ice cream. "So how are you doing, outside of work?" Jess asked.

“Exactly!” she said in agreement after Jess mentioned thinking that practice was tiring but now running around doing things for others brought that to shame. “I thought I was physically and mentally prepared for this job, but this takes the cake,” she said in a joking manner. She loved working for the Prophet, but that didn’t mean it didn’t come with its cons. Everything came with its pros and cons, and if you let the cons get in your way, then you’ll never get anywhere in life. That’s why, after Ethan died and she decided that professional Quidditch what she no longer wanted to do, she decided that she wanted to share the news. Did she sometimes miss the thrill of playing the sport in front of people, riding around on a broomstick and trying to win for their house? Yes, she did. But there was something about investigating and writing that had always thrilled her. The two of them quickly ordered their ice cream before moving to the side as they waited and paid, it was then that Jess asked her how she was doing outside of work. “I’ve been great, I love when I get just to stay home, put my feet up and just eat some take-out,” she said truthfully with a smile before directing the question towards you, “What about you? Life treating you well?”

Jess chuckled softly when Tamara agreed with her about how it wasn't what she thought it was, but it was a lot of work. She could tell that even though it was a lot of work, Tamara thought it was worth it. Jess did, at least for now. She hoped it got better when she actually became a journalist, but this was all right. Jess laughed again when Tamara said she just liked it when she got to relax at her house. "Yeah, relaxing is really nice," Jess agreed. When the other girl asked about her and life, Jess' thoughts went to Fin immediately. "It's really good. I ... I started dating this guy recently," she couldn't keep herself from smiling and hoping that Tamara wouldn't have bad things to say about him like so many other people apparently did. "His name is Finley O'Neill. Do you know him?" she asked, hoping the answer was no or that if Tamara did know him, she liked him.

As Jess agreed that relaxing was nice, she nodded her head before an idea struck, “Maybe next time we both have off, we should hang out around my apartment? We could relax, watch some movies, maybe even get some take-out, could be fun,” she said with a shrug and a smile. With how busy she’s been lately, and while going out and getting ice cream was fun, maybe a quiet night at home with a friend would be nice as well. Quickly her train of thought left her as Jess revealed that she started dating a guy, Finley O’Neill, and instantly she knew who she was talking about. “Uh—yeah, I just ran into him the other day at the Quidditch shop, he asked if I was still in touch with people from the old team back at Hogwarts. And when I mentioned I knew you, since we worked at the prophet, he mentioned running into you! That’s so cool that you two started dating, Congrats!” she said with a huge smile on her face.

Jess grinned and nodded when her friend suggested a relaxing day together. "That sounds amazing," she answered. Jess could use some relaxation. Granted, she got to relax and unwind quite a bit with Fin, but sometimes it was nice to get together with a friend and do something. Jess thought for a moment, trying to think through her schedule. "I have next Thursday off ... if you do too we could do something then." Jess laughed, "and if not, I'm sure we can find another time, eventually." She was a little surprised when Tamara actually knew who Fin was, but it was a good kind of surprised. Jess' smile widened, "Thanks. I'm pretty happy about it." More like, she was euphoric to be dating someone as amazing as Fin, but she didn't have to go on about it. She tipped her head to the side a little, "Are you dating someone?"

Tamara found herself matching the grin that appeared on Jess’s face; it was great to find someone that understood the same stress and easily wanted to relax as much as she does. “I’ll have to check again, but even if I did work—it could easily be a night-time thing, of course, leaving enough time to get a good night rest for a trying next day,” she said with a small laugh. She knew just how much sleep that meant to be ready for anything the next day, “But if that doesn’t work we can surely think of something,” she added with a shrug of her shoulder. She smiled, it was then that she asked about her own life, and she nodded her head. “Yeah—his names Liam, we started dating a bit before graduation and have been together ever since,” she said with a smile, though she kept the little secret about dating him right after breaking up with Ethan.

Jess nodded at her friend's mention that they could do something at night. "Oooh, that's a good idea!" Jess was more excited than she should probably be, but she needed to do more things with people. She was starting to do quite a bit with Fin, but she knew that balance was a good thing and spending time with friends was important. He would understand that too, she was sure. Jess thought a moment when she mentioned she was dating a boy named Liam. "Liam ... he was in Ravenclaw, right? A Flint?" Jess didn't know him well, but she was pretty good with names and faces. She was certain she was right. "I'm so happy for you," she added, wanting to make sure her friend knew she had Jess' support in her relationship ... not that she necessarily needed it.

Tamara smiled, glad that Jess was interested in her idea of hanging out again, perhaps doing something at night. Tamara enjoyed balancing friends and family with work and her own life, and she especially likes the days she got to spend time with Liam. She watched as Jess stayed silent for a few minutes, as if trying to place the name of Tamara’s boyfriend, and then she said it. Ravenclaw and a Flint, she smiled and nodded, “Yeah, that’s right,” she said with a smile on her face. “Thanks,” she breathed out, “I’m happy for you as well…sooo…why don’t you tell me a bit about you and Finley?” she questioned, wanting all the details that Jess was willing to provide.

Jess grinned when Tamara said she was right. That was nice. She thought back, trying to remember more about the guy, but she didn't really know much at all. She grinned as Tamara asked to know more about her and Finley. "As long as you tell me about you and Liam," Jess stipulated, wagging a finger at her friend. She chuckled and then continued. "We met a few weeks ago. I was walking home and one of my bags spilled out all over the ground. He helped me pick it up and after that ... well it's all history I guess. We just recently decided that we're actually dating." She flushed a little, not really knowing why she was embarrassed, but she was. She shrugged a little. "Is that all you want to know? Or do you have some questions or something?" Wow Jess was making this more awkward than it had to be.

Tamara laughed, nodding her head, “Of course,” she said agreeing to Jess’s terms of hearing more about her and Liam in return for hearing about Jess and Finley. Jess revealed that they only met a few weeks ago, telling the story of their meeting and revealing that while mundane it was rather cute. She smiled, “I’m happy for you,” she said with a huge smile on her face. She laughed at the awkwardness that Jess displayed as she asked about that being all she wanted to know or if she had questions, it was rather adorable. “Have you guys been on any cute dates? I mean if you are dating, I’m sure you have…but any memorable ones?” she questioned.

Jess was grinning now. She couldn't believe that she actually had a friend that seemed to approve of Fin right away. She was glad. Jess was tired of people insinuating that Fin wasn't trustworthy or that he might be doing something he shouldn't. She cared for him and didn't want to hear people talk about him that way. "Thanks Tamara," Jess answered happily. She shrugged, "Umm we started out going to a Chinese restaurant to eat, then our next date was at his place. He made me cheesecake and we watched Jumanji." Her smile widened as she thought about that night, the first time Fin kissed her. "Oh! We also went on a hike. What about you and Liam? Any cute dates or fun stories?" She asked curiously. She and Tamara didn't really get time to talk about their personal lives when they were at work.
