It was undeniable that Jess liked the Giggle Water, but it had an effect that she didn't really expect. Once she'd stopped drinking the stuff, she was still giggling. Kind of uncontrollably, actually, which was strange, but also kind of a relief. Like, she was letting down her barriers and walls and it was freeing in a way. Jess liked it, except a part of her wished she could stop giggling so much. Then the bartender, said he had something that would make the giggles die down and Jess nodded, taking it without hesitation. She liked the Giggle Water, but she didn't want to giggle for the rest of the night. She'd look like an idiot when Fin appeared if she did that.
She took a few swallows of his tonic- whatever that was- and then smiled when the giggles started to fade away. "I liked it," Jess said with a shrug. "If nothing else, it's good for a laugh." She chuckled at her joke, realizing that she was behaving like an idiot, but not really caring all the same. At her chuckle the giggles came back, so she lifted the glass again and drank a bit more. Then the bartender asked a question about her boyfriend ... oh yeah! Jess looked around the place vaguely, disappointed when she still didn't see Fin. "Ten," she answered. "What time is it?" Maybe Fin wasn't going to come ... it felt like it was definitely past ten o'clock now. She lifted her glass yet again, trying to distract herself from thoughts of Fin. Where was he?

Finley was supposed to be working tonight but things were slow at the obliviation department, thank goodness, and he got his paperwork done early so he was told he could be on call for the rest of the night. He was hoping to meet up with Jess, but he didn't know if he could just show up at her place... so he figured he'd go to the club to see if Trixie was back to hang out, or to chat with Aerick or any number of purifiers who hung around there. He hadn't seen some of his friends in a while.
He was only there for about five minutes when his eyes settled on Jess and... Aerick. He leaned back a little in surprise, then watched for a moment as he slowly he made his way toward then. Was she.. giggling? What the hell? She was acting insane. He picked up his pace as it become clear.
His girlfriend was drunk. Drunk. And Finley was not okay with that.
"What are you doing?" he asked harshly as soon as he reached her, his hand reaching out to snatch the glass from her hand.

Aerick saw out of the corner of his eye someone opened the door and entered the club. A glance over told him it was Finley O'Neill; he glanced over to the stairs leading to the boss' office upstairs and he saw, to no surprise, Anise strutting down the stairs, her hand gently running down the bannister, her eyes never leaving Fin's head. It was obvious though that Fin only had eyes for Jess, and he was not happy. He made his way over to Jess, and asked her what she was doing before taking the drink from her hand. "Hey man, no need to freak out, it's just a little giggle water," he said to Fin, taking the drink from the man and setting it down on the counter. He glanced over; he could still see Anise, who in all likelihood was Elaine, still watching the scene from a few stairs up.
Reaching behind the bar, Aerick filled a glass of water and pushed it towards Jess. "It's just water, to sober her up," he promised, watching Fin carefully. "Be cool Fin, she was waiting for you and needed to relax a bit," he added, trying to warn him of Elaine's presence in the Club. He didn't know if Fin would get the reaction though, he was clearly too focused on Jess to get anything he was trying to say.

Jess was still looking at the bartender, waiting for him to answer her question about the time. He wasn't even looking at her though, which she thought was weird, but she just rolled her eyes and turned to look around again. Which was when she saw Fin. He seemed a little tense, but she smiled widely as he approached, excited that he was finally here! "Fin," she greeted happily as he approached. He glared at her, demanding to know what she was doing as he grabbed the glass out of her hands. Jess' mouth fell open in shock as her cheeks burned from an embarrassed blush. He was mad at her? Aerick started to talk, but Jess didn't hear what he said. She was too surprised by how angry Fin was at her, as well as feeling kind of annoyed and flustered by his tone. Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she stared up at him, her good mood dwindling at an incredible pace. She wasn't smiling anymore. "Waiting for you," she answered louder than she meant to, realizing afterwards that maybe the bartender already told him that. She had no idea. "You were supposed to be here ages ago." Actually, she had no idea what time it was, but she assumed. She felt like she'd been waiting hours.
The bartender pushed another glass of water toward her and Jess finally pulled her eyes away from Fin as she took it, preferring to focus on the glass than on her furious boyfriend. Why was he so mad? She heard the man talking to Fin again, saying it was water, to sober her up. What was all the fuss about? She only had one drink. She stared at the water, not drinking it yet. The guy behind the counter defended Jess again, saying she'd needed to relax while she waited. Jess didn't say a word or look up from the water.

Aerick always had a way of trying to calm situations, and his tone usually worked. It was a skill that most bartenders should have, and this one had mastered. Still, it was difficult for Fin to contain his rage, something that he had been dealing with most of his life. Aerick said she was waiting for him, and Jess repeated the words. Waiting for him? Supposed to be there? How did she know he would be coming here tonight? He didn't respond to Jess, not just yet.
At The mention of the Water Fin released a breath, nodding as he sat down on the stool beside Jess. He took a few deep breaths before speaking again, his eyes focused on Aerick. "Just a little shocked, that's all." Then he turned to Jess, lifting a hand to place it on her shoulder, "can I take you home?"

Aerick’s silent message to Fin didn’t seem to be going through the man’s head. Elaine was there in the club, what was he doing? He knew that Jess wasn’t aware of this factor; hell, he didn’t think the girl knew Fin was ever friends with Elaine. Of course, he couldn’t confirm; he had attended Ilvermorny and Elaine, Fin and Jess had all been at Hogwarts. He didn’t know how open Fin was about his friendship with Elaine, past or present, but judging from the fact that she was a wanted terrorist, he doubted that had been diverged.
Fin’s eyes were trained on Jess; he didn’t see what Aerick could see, but out of the corner of his eye he saw Elaine, disguised as Anise, stop dead on the stairs. He took an involuntary sharp intake of breath; Elaine wouldn’t do anything right now, not in public with so many people. But he could only imagine the revenge she would extract on the young lovers in front of him at the opportune moment. “You both should go home...now,” he told them, a warning note in his voice. He couldn’t protect either of them from the wrath of Elaine, but he could try to get them out of the trajectory path for the evening at the very least.

Jess was ... sinking. That was the only way she could actually describe her emotions at the moment. Fin was here- finally- but he was angry at her. What for? It wasn't like she did anything wrong. A very small part of Jess was mad at him for how he was treating her like a child, but the larger part just felt hurt. Why did he ask her to come here if he was just going to come late and get mad at her? Maybe he just didn't want to be with her in front of other witches and wizards. He obviously didn't mind going on dates with her when there were only muggles present. Could he be like the man Isolde dated? She shook her head, not even wanting to think like that. She still couldn't look at him though and stared at the water in front of her.
She heard him say something to the bartender, but wasn't listening. Then someone touched her shoulder. Jess still didn't turn, though she figured it was Fin. He asked if he could take her home. She was about to nod when the other man told them that they should leave now. She sighed and nodded, "Sure," she answered, her tone flat and emotionless. This night didn't go at all the way she'd hoped. It was supposed to be "a night to remember." Well, it kind of was, but not for the reasons she hoped for. Jess turned and put her mug on the counter and then stood, still not looking at Fin. She couldn't meet his eyes right now. She was embarrassed and they were in public. Maybe they would talk about it in a few minutes, once they were alone.

Fin turned to Aerick with a sharp jolt of his head, and saw the look on Aericks face. Then, it hit him. Elaine. Fin swore under his breath, then very carefully stole a glance upward. Anise. No, Elaine as Anise. He didn't let his eyes linger there, looking back at Jess as she said "sure" in that horribly sad way. He sighed, "come on," he said, trying to keep his tone soft but it came out harsh and brash, due to knowing that Elaine was behind Jess being here tonight. He reached forward and took her hand, whether she'd let him or not, and gave one final nod of thanks to Aerick before walking out, taking Jess with him.

Aerick saw Fin swear under his breath, and let out the breath he hadn’t known he was holding. Finally, Fin had gotten the message- Elaine was watching. He should have known that from the beginning truth be told, especially at Club Indigo, but he could understand why he had been distracted. Jess seemed like a nice girl; her only flaw was falling for someone so close to Elaine Dupree. Aerick knew little about the private life of the Dark Lady, only that there were her followers, and those she actually considered her friends, her confidantes. To his knowledge there had only been two people on that list: Desirae Rousseau and Finley O’Neill. Desi was now dead, and Fin was slowly, perhaps not even realizing it, slipping away from her. Aerick shuddered involuntarily; he did NOT see how this would end well. He bade Fin and Jess a final farewell and took a deep, shuddering breath before putting on his mask of happiness to tend the bar for the rest of the night, not helping but looking over his shoulder for Elaine every few minutes. It didn’t take a genius to figure out she’d be angry about what she witness; he just hoped she wouldn’t take her anger out on him. END THREAD
