Susan could scarcely believe graduation had come and gone already - where had the time flown off to?? Today had been her official Ministry orientation with the Department she would be interning in; Regulation of Magical Creatures, and she had gone in feeling so excited, especially now that she was a registered Animagus. Susan had not initially decided if she was going to register or not, but working with the Ministry, she didn’t want to break any sort of rules that would get her fired. So now the world would know she could transform at will into a miniature horse - or at least those who actually looked at the registry. She had begun to tell her friends one by one, starting with Lysander, who was there the night she had first transformed. It had been a big night for them too, taking the next step of their relationship, and though Lysander mentioned he had told Rosie about it, Susan wanted to talk to the girl herself and gossip with her about her own Durmstrang love, who was still in the hospital. So she had invited Rosie to dinner out at a cute little Tapas restaurant near where the Ministry was hidden. Susan arrived first, always being nervous to be on time and got their table. She took a seat and took a sip of the goblet of water in front of her. Normally, she’d enjoy a glass of wine with her tapas, but she’d wait for Rosie to get here before she ordered anything. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie was ecstatic to get Susan’s invitation to dinner. She had barely seen anyone since the summer began, except for Brandon, Viola and Adonia, the three Durmstrang students in St. Mungo’s. She had been spending a majority of her time at the hospital, she didn’t want to leave Brandon alone, and she had stopped in to visit Viola too, which gave interesting results. However, she had been trying to avoid conversation with Adonia, who had been sharing a room with Brandon, much to her personal disdain. But oh well, she’d live with it. She trusted him and she had no reason not to.
She left the hospital a bit earlier than she normally would have, but Brandon understood and he seemed a little glad that she was doing something with another living human instead of just sitting with him in his room. She was excited too. She hadn’t seen Susan since Graduation and even more time had passed since the two actually spoke. They had both gotten so busy preparing for exams. Rosie was excited to hear all about her friends new career and her life now. Rosie herself wasn’t that excited to talk about her own life, since she was unemployed and living with her parents. She walked into the cafe where Susan had asked to meet and saw her friend already sitting at a table nearby. She went over. “Hey! It’s so good to see you? How are you?” Rosie said in her normal, chipper voice while unbuttoning her tan coat.

Susan smiled as she saw her friend approach; she stood up and gave Rosie a hug. “I’m doing well, quite well thank you Rosie! I trust you’re well too?” she said, sitting back down as her former roommate removed her coat. “I had my orientation at the Ministry today, learning the ropes of the department and you know, how to not get lost on the various floors,” she added giggling. The waiter immediately came over and asked to take their order; Susan suspected he recognized her as a royal, as the restaurant was currently quite crowded, and yet special attention was being paid to their table. “May I have a glass of the Malbec, please?” Susan ordered, choosing the red wine she was partial to. “And water for the table of course,” she added. The waiter took Rosie’s drink order, bowed and let them be. Susan watched his back retreat towards the bar before turning her attention back on her friend. “So? I want to hear all about what you’ve been up to the past few weeks,” she said with a bright, knowing smile. “Most importantly, how is Brandon’s recovery coming?” Susan had been in complete shock over the news of the explosions; several years ago there had been multiple attacks deemed as terrorism in the city of London, and she remembered how scared she was then. She had been relieved to discover Rosie’s boyfriend had miraculously survived the explosion, but had been in Saint Mungo’s since. rose harriet granger-weasley

Susan stood and hugged Rosie once she entered, Rosie hugged her back and the finished with her coat before sitting down at the table Susan had already secured for them. It was an interesting restaurant that Rosie had never been to, but she hadn’t spent much time in London outside of Diagon Alley or the Hospital where Brandon was. Her parents lived a few hours away in Dublin, Ireland and Rosie spent a majority of her time not at school in Dublin. They came into the city to get her school supplies each year, but even then they normally were just in the Alley and sometimes would stay in a hotel in the muggle city where her father felt more comfortable. This summer was the first time that she had ventured to London on her own, and now she was here almost everyday despite the fact that she was staying with her parents in Dublin still. Magically transportation was her best friend. “Yes I’m perfectly fine.” Rosie nodded when her friend asked how she was. It was hard to say that she was doing well, since she was both conflicted and concerned about Brandon and her possible plans to travel abroad, but she was physically fine and, honestly, she couldn’t remember a time that she wasn’t at least a little emotionally or mentally distressed. She was an extraordinarily emotional person. “How did it go? Are you excited to start work?” she asked, Rosie loved that Susan had decided to go into the Ministry, she could even see Susan taking over the Minister's office one day, if the Ravenclaw wanted to do so.
The waiter came over and Susan ordered a drink as well as water for the two of them. “Oh um - I’ll have a Merlot please.” Rosie added to the drink order. She wasn’t really one who enjoyed alcohol, however, a glass of wine with a meal never hurt anyone. And if Susan was ordering wine here it must be good, she figured. The waiter departed to collect their drinks and Susan turned the conversation back to the former Hufflepuff girl. “Oh I've just been around St. Mungo’s.” Rosie admitted, feeling a little disappointed in herself for not having anything more exciting to report to her friend. “Brandon’s doing well - they think he’s only got a week or two left in the hospital and then he’ll have a few weeks of physical therapy.” she explained. It was nice to hear such good news about her boyfriend from the healers, to be honest, she couldn’t wait to get him out of the hospital. Regardless of how many times she brought flowers to his room, the room was still white walled and stuffy. “I’ve been doing some research into muggle newspapers that would be interested in a new sports writer - I’m not sure if I’ll get any to bite, but I’m going to start sending out my portfolio.” she added. Her parents weren’t pressuring her to get a job, but she felt weird about just being at home and letting them subsidize her life.

Susan nodded happily. “Oh yes, I am over the moon excited!” she said eagerly, leaning forward a little so that there was less of a chance they were overheard. They were in a Muggle restaurant, so others might not understand what they were talking about, and even worse, might ask questions. “Our Head of Department is so nice, even though we won’t really be working directly with them of course. I’m starting off interning with the Beasts Division, which is great because Sander is starting with his magizoology, so we’ll be able to talk about Magical Creatures and put our heads together on things we can be doing to better their environments!” Susan sighed dreamily; wasn’t it the dream to have a significant other in a similar field as oneself? Susan believed so at the very least. “Oh that’s so good to hear!” Susan was excited that Brandon only had a little time left in the hospital. From what she had heard, there had been an exorbitant amount of shrapnel found in his body when he was brought in; this was certainly not something she’d discuss over dinner with Rosie though. The waiter brought over their glasses of wine and Susan toasted hers to Rosie. “That’s good! My brother keeps up with Muggle newspapers more than I do, but I’ll make sure to tell him if he sees your byline to let me know,” she said after her sip of wine. “May I ask, how come Muggle newspapers, and not the Prophet?” she asked. Some of the people she knew in wizarding journalism people tended to at least intern with the Daily Prophet first; she knew Rosie was a halfblood but she was curious of the reasoning behind it. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie couldn’t the smile on her face from growing as she listened to Susan talk. She was a sucker for hearing about her friends accomplishments and excitements. She loved living vicariously through them. She loved celebrating with them and making sure that they knew that whatever they were doing was a big deal and was important to celebrate. Even if it was something as simple as getting their own apartment. But here Susan was with something was more impressive. She was a so accomplished already and Rosie loved seeing her in her element. “That’s so amazing! I should come and visit you at work! Once you’re more settled in of course. I’d love to see where you work.” When Susan mentioned that she would be able to work alongside Sander, Rosie smirked. Sander had told her about their dating while he was comforting her on the night before their graduation from Hogwarts and Rosie hadn’t really had an opportunity to talk about any of it with Susan since. “And how is Sander?” Rosie asked, almost unable to contain her smirk.
“It’s really good, he’s doing really well and the healers are brilliant, of course.” Roise nodded, she was so thankful that they were all so good at their jobs. Of course they were, they had been training and devoting their lives to their jobs. They were all so competent. Susan went on to admit that her brother, Rosie assumed her older brother, kept up with the muggle newspapers more than she did, which was fair since he had gone into politics, if Rosie was remembering correctly, though she hadn’t really known the man outside of being Susan’s brother. “I prefer muggle sports, and I find I’m better at writing about them and that there’s more variety.” she admitted. She knew that plenty of wizards like muggles sports too, but the daily profit didn’t really have a spot for a muggle sports reporter. “So i feel like a muggle publication would better suit me.”

Susan blushed a light shade of pink; Rosalie’s smirk did not go unnoticed. “He’s well, thank you. We’re well, really well,” she said, unable to help but to gush a little bit. “He took me to this bookstore by Windsor castle, and we were able to find my old copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales,” she told her eagerly. She realized that she needed to further explain that scenario; it was probably strange to hear that she had found one of her old books in a bookshop without any pretense. “My dad gave me the book when I was six or seven, but after he died I didn’t want anything to do with it. He had inscribed it with a message just for me, but I couldn’t bear to even look at his handwriting. So my mother stored it away, and we guessed that she probably donated it along with a ton of his other books to this bookstore he had always loved. She said it was something he would have wanted done,” she explained, tucking a stray curl behind her ear. It had been the perfect start to her and Sanders’ first date; he hadn’t known of course how important that bookstore had been to her father, but Susan was a believer in faith, so she had a feeling a certain someone looking down may have swayed her boyfriend to that particular shop. “I just can’t believe how lucky I feel,” she breathed, sighing dreamily. Calling Lysander her boyfriend was still very new to Susan, but she was happily and quickly getting used to it. Susan listened to Rosie’s explanation as to why she decided to go into Muggle journalism over the Prophet. She knew that her friends dad was a Muggle, so she had that connection to begin with. Susan herself was not too big into sports, but she knew a fair bit about football and rugby, if only from her brothers, and her father when he had been alive. “Do you know if you’ll start out covering local teams, then work your way up to the big leagues?” Susan asked curiously. She would gladly read some of Rosie’s articles, if only to gleefully point out her friends name in the byline. “You have to promise to send me your first printed article, not just Brandon, but me too,” she added, looking pointedly at her friend. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie tilted her head to the side when Susan first mentioned the book store and finding the old book hidden amung the shelves. However, when she went into further explanation, Rosie’s eyes grew wide and a smile took its place on her pink lips. How magical. Truly - and that was saying something since the two of them knew real magic. Having both of her parents alive as they were, Rosie had never experienced loosing something so valuable from one of them, and she hoped that she never would experience it. “And you found it at the shop? That’s incredible!” Rosie couldn’t help but wonder how no one else had managed to find it. A old fairy tale book with a person inscription from a member of the English Royal Family would have probably been quite expensive if someone had found it before they did. When Susan mentioned how she felt so lucky, Rosie couldn’t help but wonder if she was feeling lucky for finding the book, or for finding Lysander. Or maybe a touch of both - for one certainly lead to the other. “You’ve been able to see enough of each other? Neither one of you is too busy with you new, exciting careers?” she asked, her smile still widely present on her face. Rosie knew, though, that their jobs had quite a bit of crossover.
Talking about Rosie’s future was a little harder for the brunette than talking about the lives and futures of her friends. Sometimes, Rosie felt really behind, or, like she had made a mistake by not accepting s Daily Prophet internship. In the eyes of the ex-Hufflepuff her friends all appeared to have road maps carefully drawn out for them to follow. Rosie couldn’t help but notice that her own road map stopped after Hogwarts. She was looking for a job, but nothing called her name. And, to be honest, she was never good at starting daunting assignments like this as she often felt intimidated by the weight and importance of the task. “I would imagine so. I don’t think they’d put someone new on the World Championships or anything. From the looks of it, I’d have to start by writing some test articles, but that requires me to find a story and put my own spin and voice into it.” she explained from the little research that she had done so far. Susan insisted that Rosie send her the first of her printed articles and Rosie blushed, “Alright - though I’m not sure how interested you’d be in a football match review.” she agreed with a laugh, she knew Susan wasn’t exactly a sporty person, but she was at least a very supportive friend.

Susan nodded with a smile. "We're able to have some time to spend together, and we'll get to work a little bit together in the future too," she told her, taking a sip of her drink. How fortunate was she that the love of her life ended up wanting to go in a similar direction? She would get to make laws, make a differencem legally, while Lysander would be able to make a difference with the animals he worked with. It wasn't common for couples to work in a similar environment and last, but luckily Susan worked with the Ministry directly and Lysander was mostly going to be doing field work. "I'll be able to talk to him, get his advice on the different laws the Ministry has in place, and what needs repealing, or tweaking, or if anything additional is needed for their protection," she explained, obviously excited at the prospect. She blushed a little, tucking a curly strand of hair back behind her ear. "Sorry, I tend to ramble when I get excited, as you obviously know," she told her, giggling. Susan waved her hand when Rosie said she wasn't sure how interested she was in sports articles. "Rosie of course I will read any and all of your articles, regardless of what they're about," she said insistently. "I'll just get Ed to help me understand things," she added, laughing a little. Her younger brother was definitely more up to scratch at understanding sports than she was, and they had had a good relationship recently; he wouldn't mind helping her. She sat back a little, looking at Rosie, studying her friend. "Is everything alright? With you and Brandon," she asked. It couldn't be easy, with Brandon in the hospital after the explosions. If anything, for the psychological effects more than the physical. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie didn’t mind listening to Susan ramble on about her boyfriend. They were still newly together and it was cute listening to one talk about the other, just like it had been cute listening to Sander talk about Susan on that night when he found her crying in the corridor before they graduated and he first told her that the two of them were officially together. Rosie wasn’t involved in their relationship, obviously, but, she was extremely happy that the awkweardness from their initial first kiss hadn’t got in the way of them deciding that they actually did want to be together. “That’s incredible, Susan. Truly.” Rosie smiled, she felt like she couldn’t smile more. Rosie was a genuinely sweet person and liked to make her friends feel happy also. “I’m so excited to see what you’re going to do! You’ll have to tell me all about it and about all of the creatures that either of you get to see and work with!” Rosie had always loved creatures, she had a soft spot for any living thing. She had considered a career in some creature related field, but she knew she was too soft.
Susan was adamant that she read Rosie’s articles and Rosie couldn’t help but let the blush stay on her cheeks. She was honored. “Does Ed know sports then?” Rosie asked. Edmund was one of the siblings that she didn’t know very well. She knew Susan well, and she knew Lusie from having been in the same house. But Will and Ed she didn’t know well. Not well enough at least to consider them to be anything other than acquaintances. Susan then sat back in her chair and asked a question that Rosie wasn’t expecting. Was everything okay with her and Brandon? Rosie tilted her head slightly, wondering why Susan was asking. She assumed it was because of the accident. “Yes, of course. I’ll just be spending a lot of time in the hospital with him…” he was sharing a room with Adonia, not someone she really cared for and maybe the only person in the world that Rosie would say that she hated, but that was besides the point… wasn’t it? “It was hard before I got to see him. And he’s not doing too well with not being able to move or play guitar… but he should be out in a few weeks so he’ll be able to again soon.” she admitted.

Susan shook her head, her curls moving back and forth across her shoulders as she laughed. “I sound like a lovesick bird,” she admitted knowingly. She tucked a loose curl behind her ear and shrugged. “This time feels...different than Casey,” she told her friend, who knew about her short lived relationship with the elder Finnegan sibling. True, Susan had thought she was in love with Casey around Christmastime; he had surprised her at the Yule Ball, and then accompanied her to the New Years Eve Ball where she had shown off her archery skills. But underneath all the fairy dust and sparkles, they didn’t have all that much in common and their romance just...fizzled out. Susan had known she had felt a spark of something towards Lysander from their first conversation, but he had been interested in the younger Hagrid boy at the time, so Susan did not act on her first impression. Who knew where they could be now if she had? Regardless, Susan knew it was no good to dwell on the past, and she was just happy the present and potential future was with Lysander Scamander. “Ed definitely knows sports, he’s Captaining the Slytherin Quidditch team next year!” Susan declared proudly. She happened to think her younger brother was quite deserving of the captaincy, even if she wasn’t a huge fan of watching the sport; she rather detested heights and all the back and forth made her feel a bit dizzy. Reading the recaps and stories in the Daily Prophet however wouldn’t involve actually watching a match, and was much more enjoyable to Susan that way. “You’ll definitely hear all about my ventures into the realm of Magical Creatures from both myself and Lysander. I think we’re going to go to the Americas sometime soon on an adventure,” she told her excitedly. Susan probably would have gone to at least Canada, which was still a province of the United Kingdom if she hadn’t been attending Hogwarts, but now she could go with Lysander. Susan’s smile faded a little at Rosie’s mention that Brandon still couldn’t play music due to his injuries. “That can’t be easy on him,” she said sympathetically, shaking her head a little. She was fortunate enough to have never sustained any injuries that would threaten her career or hobbies, just a few bumps and bruises associated with horseback riding. “Do you have anything special planned for when he gets out?” she asked, trying to turn the conversation back into more of a positive vibe. Planning fun surprises for your significant other was always a good thing, right? rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie knew what her friend was talking about, not the feelings, or sensation of this relationship feeling different, but about Susan’s history with the Casey Finnegan. It had been short lived, if Rosie remembered correctly, but she remembered back to the Yule Ball and the stories that Susan had told her about what had happened. Hearing the stories has been so different that seeing it happen first hand from across the room, as Rosie had. And she remembered getting butterflies in her stomach for her friend and the excitement that Susan must have been feeling. But, Rosie couldn’t help but feel, like Susan was saying, that there was something different about Lysander and about their new relationship. It just felt right and normal, and somewhat expected. That was just her outsider perspective after having observed them for the past few months as a friend. And from what Lysander had told her on the night before graduation when he caught her crying in the corridor. “You’re both truly wonderful, selfless people and you bring out the best in each other - I can see that.” Rosie admitted. She always thought of Susan as the most kind person that she had ever known, and after the other night, Sander had secured his spot under that category too.
Ed was going to be captaining the Slytherin Quidditch team and Rosie smiled upon hearing that news, “that’s incredible!” she nodded, she didn’t know many of the other siblings, so she hadn’t remembered that Ed was even on the Quidditch team, but she had seen him play multiple times and Susan bring it up had reminded her of that. “Maybe we’ll have to go back and take in a match sometime.” she giggled. She wasn’t sure if that would actually ever happen. As much as Rosie would love to be back, she knew Hogwarts wasn’t hers anymore and she felt like it would be weird to actually go back. And she’d be going to enough Quidditch games thanks to Jamie and her talent. “America, really?” she asked, her mind briefly going back to the conversation that she had with Georgie, the American girl in her house, at the end of the school year. “What are you going to be doing in America?” she asked. Rosie had a sudden fascination with the land across the sea and she wasn’t sure why.
As the conversation drifted to Brandon, Rosie felt her chest grow heavy with every breath. It was hard to think that she was here enjoying herself and he was still in the hospital and sharing a room with… Rosie didn’t want to think about that. It wasn’t as if Brandon had asked to share a room with the woman who attacked Rosie back in March. It had just happened and there was nothing that Rosie would do about it. She didn’t want to put any more stress onto her injured boyfriend. “It’s not easy for him. It’s hard to watch him. Sometimes he forgets he can’t move and tries to and then you can see in his eyes…” Rosie shook her head slightly, not wanting to drag this somber feeling into the conversation. This was supposed to be a fun lunch. “I don’t have anything planned… should I?” she asked. “I’m still new to this girlfriend thing.” she admitted, Brandon had been her first ever boyfriend and she had no idea what all was expected.

Susan beamed at Rosie's compliments, her pale cheeks flushing with a tinge of pink. "Rosie that is so kind of you to say, especially since I've always thought of you as one of the kindest people I've ever know," she told her friend honestly. Rosie had always reminded her of her little sister Lusie; they were both Hufflepuffs so she thought it made a lot of sense. "We'll have to do a double date sometime this summer or autumn. I'd love to get reacquainted with Brandon and of course give him the third degree about making sure he's treating you well," she added with a giggle. She had known Brandon as an acquaintance while he had attended Hogwarts, but then he had moved to Durmstrang so she really didn't interact with him at all this past year, even if he was back at the castle. Still, if he made Rosie happy that was what was important in the end. "We're going to Canada, that's where Lysander was born. He wants to show me because it's a part of him," Susan explained with a small smile. Canada was still a part of the Crown, so Susan knew it'd be easy to get them the best accommodations over there, but she was really excited to just explore the country with her boyfriend. "I am very proud of Ed; I know he really wanted this, so when he got the letter I think I may have only surpassed in excitement by my brother," Susan admitted. She knew Ed was not exactly known for showing emotions, but she knew how happy and proud of himself he had been knowing he had been awarded the Captaincy. "I may just have to take you up on that; hopefully my schedule at the Ministry will allow it, but games are typically on weekends if I remember correctly," she agreed. Susan hadn't been one for attending all the matches - just the ones her siblings would play in. She was pretty sure they were on weekends at least. "It's different for me, career wise. I've been groomed my entire life to do something for the good of the country. I just don't expect my family thought it would be in the wizarding part of the country," Susan told her friend with a small shrug. The Ravenclaw had always had an eye for politics, so it wasn't surprisng to her mother when she told her of her intent to join the Ministry. She had been surprised however that it was not the Muggle but the wizarding Ministry. "Will is involved with the Muggle politics, thankfully, so I got the chance to do what I wanted to, which was work with Magical Creatures," she explained, thanking her brother silently once again that he had made that choice. rose harriet granger-weasley

Rosie loved surrounding herself with things and people that made her happy, and Susan had always been one of those people, since the two of them met she could tell that Susan was just a genuinely sweet person and Rosie was happy that the girl had taken a liking to her as well. She was especially glad that their friendship had lasted, despite them having been in different houses, and despite all of the drama and trials that the last 7 years had put them both through. “Absolutely - a double date would be so much fun.” Rosie knew that it had been years since people had seen Brandon, since he had transferred from Hogwarts to Durmstrang a few years back, and even the people who knew him before had a lot to catch up on. People changed so much over such a short amount of time at this age and especially so with everything happening around them. “I’m sure he’d love to go.” she didn’t want to speak for him, but she couldn’t see him saying no to an opportunity to see old friends, especially if it meant so much to Rosie.
Susan explained about going to Canada because that was where Sander was from and Rosie nodded, “That’s so sweet. I’m sure it’ll be really special to see that and to see it with him.” she admitted. She wasn’t sure yet if she’d be traveling or doing anything really fun this summer, her main goal was just to figure out what she was going to do and where she was going to be once September started. It was weird not having the deadline of the next school year to put an end to the summer. But she had still given herself the deadline of September to find herself a job and maybe a flat in London or wherever her job was. Rosie nodded when Susan admitted that she’d be interested in going to take in a game and watch her brother if her schedule allowed. Rosie could understand, she had no idea what her schedule would be or if it would allow her to do anything like that. In many ways, the idea of not knowing was more crushing than having the commitment of a job at all.
“Well I don’t think your family ever thought that any of you would be involved in our world.” Rosie smiled with a nod, listening as the girl across the table from her explained her thoughts about her career and the opposite path that her older brother had taken. Rosie knew Will, he was only slightly older than she and Susan were, so they had still crossed paths at school for quite some time. She wasn’t as close with Will, or any of the Windsors as she was with Susan, though, understandably so. “I’m glad that they understand and are letting you follow what you’re passionate about.” she could help but smile, she had been smiling this whole time, but she truly meant it. “My parents are fairly understanding, they just want me to find something that makes me happy.” she gave a nod. She just wasn’t sure exactly what would make her happy, and that was the hard part.

Susan clapped her hands together with excitement; she hadn’t been able to spend too much time with Brandon, so the idea that he made one of her closest friends so happy made her perfectly happy to get together. “Perhaps some time before the summers over, and we can enjoy the outdoor dining London has to offer?” she suggested. Susan was not by any means much of an outdoorswoman, but she did love the warm weather that came with the summertime. It was just far more enjoyable, watching the sunset over dinner and drinks, the breeze ruffling her curls as boats crossed the Thames with dozens of tourists. “I’m not sure when we’d be going to Canada, we haven’t ironed out the details just yet,” Susan added with a small shrug. She made a mental note to write to Sander when she got home to see if they could try and finalize some plans. Susan giggled softly as Rosie pointed out that her family likely didn’t think she was going to be involved in the wizarding world at all from the beginning. “You have a fair point there,” she relented, inclining her head with a smile. She didn’t think any of her family knew of the existence of wizards before Will got his Hogwarts letter; though according to history there had to be a Squib somewhere in their lineage. Susan was inclined to think it came from her mothers side, though there were a few royals in the past who could have easily been Squibs, and called mad for it. “Being happy is the most important part of a job. Happiness and passion for what you do. I’m pretty positive you’re quite passionate about being a journalist, are you not?” Susan reasoned, taking a sip of her drink while she waited for Rosie to respond. rose harriet granger-weasley
