She smiled at the windmill and he put the blue one back, pulling out a yellow one. "This one works best by a window at night, or in a room with single candle," he explained, his voice dropping a little in volume and tone, almost reverent. "It catches the light nearby, however small -- candlelight, starlight, and then it spreads it out like... Like stars shooting across the sky," he said, holding it up. "It's better if you see for yourself. I'll show you sometime," he promised, taking the windmill in hand so he could buy it when the time came.

Okay, so he was right. She was interested in the things he was showing her, though Ev didn't really want to admit it. Then again, he could probably already tell, since instead of moving on he pulled out another windmill and started showing it to her. Ev leaned forward, wanting to see it more clearly, as well as hear him. He was talking quieter now, but the volume in the popular shop seemed to be rising. She assumed that meant more and more people were entering and found herself a little annoyed at them. She wanted to hear what he was saying. Her mouth fell open as he explained what this windmill did. "That sounds amazing," she whispered, looking at the little windmill in surprise. How did they make something like that. She gave a soft laugh. "I guess you were right. You've found things to interest me." She hated admitting she was wrong, but Ev did so anyway. It was the truth.

Her mouth fell open, and she whispered that the Light Windmill sounded amazing. He laughed a little along with her, but tried not to make a big deal about how glad he was that she was actually interested in the things he was showing her. "It's not all pranks and jokes, though most of it is. The family really has developed some impressive magic, and I assume they may have consultants helping them out now and then with ideas, though I'm not sure. Their heads are all full of wonderful things, as we see here," he said with a nod.
He kept his eye on her a moment longer before turning back toward the shelf of windmills. There weren't very many colors, but enough that he didn't think it was necessary to show her all of them right now. "What sort of things interest you? I bet we can find more things to suit your fancy here," he said.

He was smiling and Ev was actually a little surprised at how much she was enjoying this. She never came here on purpose, because she didn't want to deal with the pranks in here. He was right, that there was other stuff here. She nodded as he started to explain it. "Yeah, this is definitely more interesting than I thought it would be," Ev admitted, though a part of him didn't want to.
Ev was still looking at the windmills, wondering what they did when Benji started asking her questions about what did interest her. Ev shrugged, not really sure what to tell him. "Ummm ... I like Quidditch, things that get my adrenaline pumping, and anything that makes me think," she said it kind of like a question, not really sure if she was making any sense. Ev liked a wide range of things and wasn't sure if that would come off as strange or not.

Evelyn said this was more interesting than she expected it to be, which just made Benji grin more wickedly and goofily. She answered his question, saying she liked Quidditch and adrenaline, as well as anything that made her think. His eyes widened with a mischievous light as he reached over to gently grab her wrist and started pulling her toward another shelf, "I've got just the thing! Oh, you'll love this one..." he chuckled happily to himself as they reached it.
He released her hand, pulling a book off the shelf and holding it out to her. He looked up at her, over the top of the book, holding it up by his chin. "It's a book of riddles, but if you can't solve the riddle in a certain amount of time then something happens," he explained. "Sometimes sticky yellow goo sprays out at you, sometimes a strawberry jam like substance - not quite jam because that has to be refrigerated," he added, "and sometimes it lights up. Some times it turns your hands blue. But, if you get all the riddles right, then you get a coupon to the store - so I hear," he explained, "I've never done it."

He was grinning at her and Ev was surprised to find that her own smile was widening. It was hard not to smile around this guy. He was crazily happy and it was simultaneously weird and attractive to her. What was going on? He grabbed her and started pulling her a different direction, saying that he knew something she'd love and Ev followed, letting her smile widen since she was behind him and he couldn't see it. Had to protect her reputation, right? Whatever.
When he released her, she schooled her expression a little, but her eyes widened as he explained. A book of riddles. Ev's mouth fell open in delight. "Alright, you definitely win," she told him, not even looking at him. "You were right, there is something for everyone here. I need one of these." Ev finally looked at him and smiled, giving up. He was too charming.

She said that he won, looking down at the book, and saying that she needed it. She looked up at him, smiling. Mission accomplished, he thought. And wow, what a smile that was. He just stared at her for a moment, smiling too, and then nodded. "Let me buy it for you," he said, pulling it toward him and starting to walk toward the counter, yellow windmill also in hand. "We'll plan a time to try and get together to try out this windmill," he said, holding it up. He was almost to the cash register, all ready to buy the things and let this girl go. What a fun afternoon they had had... and he was proud that he got that smile out of her.

He was smiling back at her and Ev didn't even realize how happy she actually looked as she stared at that book. Then Benji pulled her book out of her hands, saying that he would buy it. "Oh, you don't have to," Ev said, but he was already walking toward a counter and she didn't want to be rude or something. She followed him, not really sure what else to do, but she nodded, eyes lighting up when he said they'd find a time to try out the windmill. "That sounds great," Ev answered honestly. She bit her lip when they reached the register. "Thanks for getting that for me," she told him. "I mean, yeah. Thanks." The person behind the register held the book out to her and Ev took it, smiling shyly at Benji. "I guess I'll see you around later then."
