@nora Moving from the orphanage to the apartment that had been ‘supplied’ by their mother was way more stressful than he had ever imagined. And the place was already fully furnished, so the only actual moving involved came in the form of school supplies, and anything that was stored at the orphanage during the school year. Which again, wasn’t much, because there weren’t too many things that Lance owned that didn’t stay with him at all times. Leaving was the hardest part, and then trying to establish how to get food and cleaning supplies, and going to Gringotts to get money – all of it was more in depth than he had ever imagined, and that was just the easy stuff.
Currently he was waiting in a rather lengthy line in Gringotts. When he had arrived, the person in front of him mentioned that it was going to be a while because there had been a derailment deep inside the bank vaults, and most of the staff had to take care of it. That was perfect. What should have been only ten or so minutes, was now going to be a couple of hours, or at least until all of the tellers returned to their posts and the line was broken up. Seeing as he had already been there for half an hour and hadn’t moved an inch, it was starting to look like he would be better off coming back in a day or two, once operations returned to normal. Then again, he did kind of need the money now, since he had to have it converted to British pounds and get normal, non-magical things.
To boot, there wasn’t anything to do either. The that had told him about the problem inside the bank had already started a conversation with the person in front of him, and they were currently discussing the inflation of faerie dust as a potion ingredient, compared to it as an ice cream topping. Lance neither cared, nor did he want to know how faerie dust was collected or what it tasted like in general, or even why anyone would put it on ice cream in the first place. All he wanted was his stupid money so he and Georgie could eat for the next week.

Nora was at this big ol' bank with her parents. They had gone back with a goblin, a freaking goblin (so cool), to set up their accounts and Nora had stayed out in the big room with all the desks and the line. She was staring at the high ceiling, eyes wide. She couldn't believe how big the buildings were here in England. She had seen big buildings, sure, but not big buildings. She laughed where she stood, spinning in a slow circle as she tried to take it all in. She didn't even notice the other magical beings, goblins and humans alike, staring at her like she was a drunk house elf. She looked to the line, after a moment, a grin still on her face, when she saw a blonde guy, about her age. She grinned. This was one of the things she was most excited about with moving here. The opportunity to meet more people and, of course, mess with them if the occasion called for it. That was easier with Steve around, though. Where had he run off to anyway? She approached the blonde guy, stepping up beside him. "They should call this the 'Longest Lonely Line."lancelot ray linley

@nora The conversation about faerie dust that he was listening to was still droning on. Didn’t these guys have anything else to talk about? Hell, the weather would be more interesting at this point. There were a few things he hated about waiting in lines for magical stores and banks. The first was that everyone always tried to talk to him. While he was normally fine with that, getting along perfectly fine in most conversations, it was the follow up of him being an American that he hated the most. Was it really that strange? There were a few other transfers and American students at Hogwarts recently, so the adults shouldn’t have thought it was weird. In this line though, he was sure it would be something more along the lines of why a kid had a vault at Gringotts. Lance would readily admit that was actually odd, seeing as most accounts were handled by adults. In the Linley family though, he was more of an adult than his mother ever would be unfortunately. The other reason he disliked lines like this was because he couldn’t listen to music. His mp3 player was no-maj tech; he had never managed to get one of the charmed ones, so his was currently shoved in his pocket, waiting for him to turn it on the second he escaped from Diagon Alley.
Lance had been zoning out when he heard a voice next to him point out the length of the line. Stepping slightly away from the person that was suddenly next to him, he looked her up and down. She looked to be about the same age as him, but these days who knew? “Uhh yeah. Guess so. Not exactly the most thrilling of things to wait in,” Lance responded, still trying to figure out why she was talking to him. “If you’re not in a rush to get money out, you’re probably better off coming back tomorrow. Been here for a while already…”

The boy looked her up and down and she placed her hands on her hips, letting him survey her. He said it wasn't the most thrilling thing to wait in and she nodded, then he spoke about her coming back tomorrow and how he'd been there for a while. She laughed, "my parents are setting up a vault, we just moved here," she explained, her Canadian-slightly-French accent clear and strong. She held a hand out to him, taking a small step forward as she did so, "Nora Kolstad, new transfer to the Hogwarts school. From the Great White North," she chuckled. "And you're not British," she said, raising an eyebrow at him. He clearly had lived here longer than she had, but his accent wasn't like the other people here. It was quite lovely, actually. Not that she minded British accents, but it was nice to mix things up a little bit. lancelot ray linley

@nora Ah. So it wasn’t her that was waiting in line. Her family had already made it through the line. They were lucky then. Or maybe not, especially if the incident inside the vaults involved them. That wouldn’t be a fun way to spend the day at the bank, not that finding out how little was in your bank account was ever a fun thing to go through. He was sure he would be at that point one day, but currently they seemed to have a decent amount for the two of them. Managing any amount of money was going to be difficult at first because they had never had any before.
It took another second for Lance to hear the part about the girl just moving here. She introduced herself, and he shook her hand. “Pleasure, Nora. Lance Linley. And no I’m not British.” This was going to be another one of those explanations. He had practically perfected it over the last year, the curious Durmstrang and Beauxbatons students clearly interested in why there were a handful of Americans at Hogwarts when they had a perfectly good school of their own to attend. If he had his way with it, he would have dragged Georgie back across the Atlantic to go to Ilvermorny like they were supposed to. Nothing against Hogwarts, it was just a little too much for his southern tastes at times. This girl was from Canada from the sounds of it though, and also transferring in, so maybe it would be easier to explain to her than the students from the other schools. “Me and my sister have been going to Hogwarts since we were old enough. Can’t say I’m not jealous that you got to go to Ilvermorny for at least most of your schooling.”

He said it was a pleasure, shaking her hand and she smiled, "Lance Liney. What a superhero name," she said with a chuckle. He said that he and his sister have been going to Hogwarts, though, assuming that she went to Ilvermorny. She chuckled, "actually, I went to a small homeschool in Canada," she explained. Her parents came out of one of the rooms at the end of the hall and she turned toward them, giving a small wave. "But, I'll be at Hogwarts this fall," she dropped her voice to her vampire fun voice, "hope to see you there," she winked, turned on her heel and jogged over to her parents. Her mother wrapped an arm around her shoulders and led her out of the bank, and Nora didn't look back at the cute American boy. It was more fun to leave him hanging. lancelot ray linley

@nora A superhero name? That was certainly a new one. Being thought of as a superhero would be strange. He was sure Georgie thought he was kind of a hero, or at least a decent older brother, and the other kids at the orphanage had definitely made it clear that they looked up to him, but that was pretty much all he could think of. And Nora here didn’t know about any of that. That story wasn’t exactly something you dumped onto a girl you just met. He had done it before, and it always ended up drawing pity. Lance didn’t want to be pitied. So he didn’t say anything about it this time. Lance raised his eyebrows as Nora explained that she had been homeschooled in Canada. That explained the accent a bit. It was definitely a far cry from what remained of his southern twang. Their geographic locations in North America were probably close to being as far away from each other as possible. Funny that they would meet like this. Lance watched her turn to wave at a few of the people that had just come out of one of the vaults. Her parents, clearly. Assuming they were some of the people stuck down below, that meant the line was about to get moving too. His attention went back to her as she said that she was going to be at Hogwarts this upcoming year, and that she hoped to see him there. The last part felt like it went straight into his body. “Uhh yeah. Hope to see you there too,” Lance said as Nora turned to head back towards her parents. The person behind him clearing their throat for him to move forward snapped him out of the strange stupor that he found himself in. Quickly apologizing, he moved up. Eventually he’d get to his money. [The End]
