@lestrange Training. Some things never changed, regardless of where Blaise was working. He had always been in charge of the Obliviator training, and despite hating having to deal with the young ones, it was better to have them learn from him over some other dolt in the department. Maybe if competency was higher with the Obliviators, he wouldn't have had so many worries with leaving them. Moving to the hit wizard department was where his heart was at though, so it didn't matter at this point. Someone intelligent would come along some day and lead the Obliviators. That day wasn't today though, and it certainly wasn't going to be Blaise anymore. He had more pressing things, like remembering his own hit wizard training and trying to mold that into a modern program. Other teachers had left him notes, probably thinking it would help, but everyone in the department was quirky as hell. There was no telling if his trainee would even catch on to it. Especially if it was the one he thought it was. A name change couldn't hide the records he had flipped through before accepting the training position. Despite some of the things he read about, and some that he couldn't due to redactions, Andromeda Lestrange, now a Longbottom legally, looked like she had the chops to move through the department at lightning speed. Apparently it was his honor to help her along the way.
Legs kicked up on his new desk, and the girl's file splayed out in front of him, Blaise ticked down the minutes until she was supposed to arrive. As much as he hated 'getting to know people' that was necessary for this job. Obliviators didn't have to give a damn about each other. All they did was take away memories and modify them accordingly. This field of work though, absolute trust was required. They were thrown into situations far more dangerous than Aurors were, and wavering for a moment was unacceptable. Staring down at his wrist watch and back up at the door to his office, Blaise waited patiently for the new recruit to arrive.

Training. Andy had trained with Stephen for her first week and now she was supposed to train from Blaise Zabini. Aka, Lionas dad. Aka, this was kind of weird. She was in orchestra with Liona and... well, Liona had seem a good amount of her crazy before. Andy wondered if she had told her father about it but... she wouldn't, right? Either way, Blaise Zabini was going to get a good dose of it no matter what Andy did. This was her life now, and he was her trainer, and that was that. She knocked on the office door and stepped in, since it was already partly open. "Mr. Zabini," she greeted, giving a short nod of her head and a slight bend in the knees. She didn't curtsy the way her mother would have preferred, but who gave a flying f*ck about her mother, anyway? She stepped further in, "Andromeda Lestrange," she offered. He knew who she was, she was sure. No doubt he had read about her. The fact that she had attacked people wouldn't be in detail int he file, since Neville kept that a closely hidden secret, but Blaise wasn't stupid. She had spent a month in the psych ward. A month not far back. blaise leo zabini

@lestrange She arrived in the millisecond he had looked away from the office door. That was how things worked around here. Exactly when he wasn’t paying direct attention to something, it happened. The knock on the door pulled his eyes back up to the girl as she stepped inside the office and introduced herself, giving him a curtsy. That was old school. Then again, she was from one of those families. The kind that he could never understand, more so just tolerate because of his extreme graciousness. He wouldn’t have managed to marry his wife if he hadn’t been able to do that. Her side of the family wasn’t super strict like some, but definitely erred on the side of caution when around the big names. The Lestranges were one of those.
“I know who you are,” Blaise said stalely. If she couldn’t take that, then she wouldn’t make it far in the program. That was how they did the training. Making the recruits hate every second of it weeded out the ones incapable of success. That never got passed for the soft outer shells of the Obliviator trainees. “Take a seat,” he motioned with his finger towards the chair in set up in front of his desk. A few of the other new recruits he had already seen had rushed over immediately to the chair when he mentioned it, probably to appease him or whatever it was they thought they were doing. It wasn’t necessarily a test, but it was at the same time when it came down to his training methods. Blaise flipped through a few more of the pages in her file nonchalantly, before snapping it closed and tossing it onto his desk. “Interesting history you have there. You think you could kill a person? Snuff them out of existence without hesitation?” Blaise posed the questions quickly, wanting to hear her take on it. He had no idea what this girl was capable of, the same being said about every recent graduate that stepped into their department. They needed to understand early on what they were getting themselves into.

He knew who she was, of course For one, she was of Lestrange blood and for two, she was in his files. He told her to take a seat and she did casually made her way to the chair, sitting down on the edge of it, ready to get back up again at any moment. That was just how Andy did things. She was always on her guard and ready to go. Not that she didn't trust him, but she didn't make it a habit of getting too comfortable anywhere. That never worked out well. He was looking through papers, and she guessed they were either about an important target or they were about her. When he spoke again, she was sure they were about her. His questioned were pointed and quick, but she didn't falter. "Yes, if it's for the greater good," she said. She was sure the Ministry was there to give them assignments to take care of bad people. "Some people just need to die, sir, and I believe I'm capable of removing them from this world without any problems," sure, she may have a little remorse after they were dead, but she had accessed a part of herself that everyone (include herself) had been trying to drown out, and that part was fit for duty. blaise leo zabini

@lestrange While the answer he was looking for was either a confident ‘yes’ or ‘no’, the girl gave him the classic ‘for the greater good’. In his opinion, that was a bold choice to make, considering the connotations it had with magical history over the last hundred years or so. It was interesting to finally see someone that was confident in their own ability, but actually killing someone was still different than saying one could do it. Considering her file and family history though…Blaise let out a deep breath that he didn’t even know he was holding in. He had to remember that every single one of these recruits was different, same as with the current hit wizard squad. Despite the threats he was known for making concerning dark wizards, he had never actually killed someone. At least not directly. People had died around him when he was new on the job, and that may have been one of the reasons his wife wanted him to switch once the kids were born. Still, there were plenty years ahead of him to make up for those lost. Plenty of people out there to fill the gap too.
“And how would you do that?” he asked. “Do you know what someone has to do in order to have a legal hit put on them? Or why we would go and complete it instead of a team of Aurors?” Blaise was sure she would respond with an answer saying something about that being the reason she was joining – to learn how to kill and prevent killing. “Doesn’t matter. You’ll learn soon enough regardless. Anything else you’re looking to get out of this job?”

He let out a deep breath and she stayed stoic, not sure what that was supposed to mean. He asked how she would do it, how she would kill them? He asked why they were in charge of this task and what someone had to do to get the legal hit on them. But then he said it didn't matter, that she'd learn soon enough and she found herself making a slightly skeptical face. What was the point of asking questions if he was just going to say it didn't matter? That seemed... wasteful, in her opinion. And a little bit annoying, not that she would ever say that out loud to her superior. Well, unless he got really annoying but she didn't see that happening. He asked what else she was looking to get out of the job and that question she did answer, because he didn't cancel it out by saying it didn't matter. "No," she said firmly. "I'm here to do a job, sir, one that I believe is necessary. I'm here to learn the answers to the questions you posed," she paused, "and learn the proper way of executing orders -- no pun intended," she added. She wasn't a big joker, really, especially not in a professional setting. "Can I ask you something?" she shifted her tone slightly, a little lower and slightly more severe. blaise leo zabini

@lestrange Blaise was positive that he lost her somewhere in all of his questions. He hadn’t fired them off quickly to have her answer them with sharp precision; they were merely the things that he expected her to be thinking of moving forward, which he had said as much. This job was a confusing one. It dealt with the kind of resolve that normal people didn’t have, or never would have. The things they had to manage and overcome were of the highest order any witch or wizard could be given. Legally killing another person with magic was still a taboo, despite them having the legal authority to do so, no questions asked. A license to kill was dangerous in the average person’s hands, let alone someone who couldn’t handle it properly. That was why they vetted the new recruits as much as they did. If Andromeda could understand that, then she would succeed. If not…
He didn’t have to wait long to see the slightly puzzled look be replaced by her firm statement that she was here to do a job. That was good enough for him at the moment, albeit a little robotic. He let out a small snort at her ‘executing orders’ comment. Didn’t matter if it was intended or not. That sort of sick humor would resonate with the other hit wizards. Then she said that she wanted to ask him something. That was different. Blaise leaned back in his chair, kicking his feet up onto his desk and interlocking his hands in his lap. “Fire away. You’ve piqued my interest.”

He leaned back, putting his feet up onto his desk and interlocking his fingers -- a comfortable position, still a position of power. "Why did you become a Hit Wizard?" she asked. She felt like this was a job for very specific type of people. Or at least people who had some specific traits. Claire made sense, having already killed Desirae and being ready to move forward. Andy made sense, she somehow knew that this was where she belonged. A part of her had always known, she thought, since everything she did last year. That could have been her father working through her, sure, but also she knew it was her heart trying to tell her something. That if you were willing to kill, you had to kill the right way. Whatever that was. blaise leo zabini

@lestrange He wasn’t sure what he was going to get for a question. The girl could have asked him virtually anything, from what he had for breakfast, to what his favorite color was. Toast and oatmeal and black. Not that it mattered, because those weren’t the questions she was interested in. Instead, Andromeda asked him why he had become a hit wizard. That was a good question indeed. “You might as well sit down, since it could be a lengthy story,” Blaise said, picking up his wand from his desk and flicking it at a chair in the corner, moving it to right behind the girl. “That one is more comfortable than the others,” he explained casually. He had to have the ones in front of his desk because it was required by the department. Whatever that meant. They were probably indestructible. He had trashed one a few months back after finding out that one of the Shacklebolt girls had gotten herself killed. The shock value of smashing the chair into pieces had served to snap the other one out of her stunned stupor.
“To answer your question with a short response, it was for the challenge. The long response isn’t as eloquent, and goes into detail about why I wanted a challenge to begin with,” Blaise trailed off, studying her a bit more. She would want the long answer, he supposed. Talking about his work history was always interesting too, because he could show how great he was even as a child. “The hit wizards allow for a sort of exponential magical growth that is only seen one other time in a witch or wizards life: while at school. There aren’t many departments here in the Ministry that give you free reign to study new methods of tracking and offensive magic without consequence. When I had graduated, I wanted something that was more difficult than Hogwarts had ever been. Being an Auror wasn’t the greatest job following the war, and the training process had become so watered down that virtually anyone was accepted if they wanted to join. This department did not do that. I was able to master a level of Occlumency in a matter of months that was normally only capable after years of intense training of the mind. And they considered that a long time to learn it. Everything in this department is done to pull the best qualities of magic out of us, and then arm us with the knowledge to use it flawlessly whenever we need to. So that was why I joined the first time.”

He told her she may as well sit down and she almost protested, but then she felt a chair at the back of her knees. She nodded as he said it was comfortable and sat down... finding that he was right. Still, she sat on the edge of the chair, leaning forward a little, her posture upright. She may have denounced her parents and aided in their deaths, but she hadn't forgotten her etiquette. Years of that stuff got into your bones, digging itself into the tiny creases of your muscle memory until you couldn't behave any other way unless you were aggressively thinking about it, trying to control the world that was laced into your very beings. He spoke, saying it was for the challenge and went into more detail. As he spoke, she started to lean forward even more, captivated by his words like a child hearing a scary story for the first time. He spoke of Occlumency, which fascinated her, and how this department was meant to pull the best qualities of magic out, and her eyes widened just a tad more. Armed with knowledge... she wanted to be armed with everything. She almost was ready to accept that answer as the whole thing, until he said 'the first time'. "And... the second?" her voice was soft, but it felt like a sword slicing into the air. Swift, quiet, but impossible to miss. blaise leo zabini

@lestrange This girl was an interesting specimen. Blaise had seen plenty of her kind over the years; the pureblooded drivel pounded into children’s heads from the second they knew how to comprehend what being superior to all else meant. Hell, he had been the same way. He was the same way still. There were differences between then and now though, and he liked to think that there had been progress made throughout his life to supersede the ideals that had been built up by his mother and her inordinate number of ex-husbands. Those fools. His mother was a still a wonderful being, but some of the things she convinced him of certainly weren’t true. Money and power was an excellent blind fold. So the way Andromeda sat down on the chair that he had placed behind her was only indicative of the life she had grown up with. He didn’t need to read her file to know any of that, because it was like looking into a mirror and seeing himself almost three decades ago.
She stayed silent throughout his story, and Blaise expected it to stay that way after it as well, giving him ample time to ask her any other questions he thought were pertinent to the interview. But she spoke up immediately after he finished though, asking about the second time. Why he was back to being a hit-wizard. He had been asked this question before. Multiple times actually. Each time he had given a different response. The easy answer was that he took up the job as an Obliviator because of his children being in school and needing a father, something that he never had – the untimely death of his own father and the idiotic nature of the ones that followed him made sure of that from ever happening – and now that one child had graduated and one was almost finished as well, they were all grown up and he could go back to doing what he had enjoyed prior to their births. While that was one of the reasons he had left the department the first time, it wasn’t the reason he was coming back now. That was something more animalistic that not everyone would understand. Interlocking his hands on his desk, Blaise leaned forward, “Do you ever get an inexplicable itch to do what must be done, Miss Lestrange? The kind that feels like it will tear you apart if you don’t listen to it, even if it has a result you don’t want?” Blaise paused, letting the second question trail off to gauge her response. “That is why I came back to being a hit-wizard. There is no grandiose reason. Being here lets me be who I want to be, not what the head of the Obliviator department or the Minister want me to be.”

He mentioned the itch to do what needs to be done and she felt that question in every bone in her body. She nodded once, but didn't speak. Then he said that was why he came back. That he was who he wanted to be. For Andy... It felt like it was who she had to be. This was what was in her blood. Killing, that was. So wasn't it best to do it for the right reasons? Yes, it was the best way. This was the best way. She held still, quiet for a moment, and then stood. "I am prepared to do what needs to be done," she announced. "I'll see you in training, Mr. Zabini," she gave a tiny bow, out of respect, and then left, not leaving any room for anything else to be said. Her journey had begun and, despite being nervous about her families reactions, she was excited for it. blaise leo zabini(Andy out, let end?)

@lestrange The girl seemingly processed everything he said, or at least didn’t make move to say otherwise. That meant she was going to retain it or go and do her own thing in the department. Frankly, either of those choices wouldn’t be bad, and there were plenty of other hit witches and wizards here that did whatever they pleased. The only part that did matter was that she needed to be a reliable asset when it came to real missions. Those had to be executed flawlessly. In that regard, Blaise felt confident from her responses that there wouldn’t be any problems on her end. But that could always change once the real training started. Anyone could say anything, but not everyone could do everything. She said she was prepared to do what needed to be done, and Blaise nodded his head as a response. “Next Monday. Nine o’clock. You’ll receive a letter that details what you’ll need to bring,” he stated, making sure to mark down on her file that she had passed the interview portion of the training. There would be many more interactions like this. Follow ups on training exercises and practice missions. Each had a higher bar to go over. Andromeda Lestrange looked like she had the ability to get over each one effortlessly. Hopefully she wouldn’t disappoint. [The End]
