It was no surprise that Brooke felt the same way about dogs as he did. He loved her family's pets and was sure that missing them was one of the reasons she was having such a hard time here. Which was one reason why he chose to come here before they went to get their wands. He figured animals- especially dogs- might help to cheer his best friend up. He nodded when she said that it was a shame they didn't allow dogs. He watched as she leaned closer to the puppy and told him to sit, grinning when the animal did as she said. "How about this one?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow at her before looking at the dog again. He twirled his pointer finger in circles above the dog's head. "Roll over," he encouraged, laughing when the dog did exactly as he said. He turned back to his friend, making a pleading face. "Do you think we can find a way to smuggle him into the school? Or convince one of our families to adopt him?" He didn't think there was a big chance of that, but he really liked this little dog.

Jace seemed eager to continue to test the dogs skills and Brooke was in no hurry to put the puppy back into its cage. She watched as Jace instructed the dog to roll over and laughed as the dog did. What an incredibly trained little guy! Brooke couldn’t help but wonder why he was here and not already with a loving family? She wondered if he was a stray or if he had been bred by a breeder and given to the shop to sell. “Maybe we can charm him to look like a cat. How good are you at transfiguration again?” she asked her friend with a sly look on her face. She bent down and picked up the fluff ball in her arms before standing up again. “You think polyjuice potion is dangerous for them? We could turn him into a cat that way.” she added. She wasn’t serious about either of these things, of course and unfortunately.

Jace made a face at his best friend when she mentioned making the puppy look like a cat. "Oh, Brooke! That's just mean! He'd see himself in the mirror and start to attack it! Besides, a dog this good shouldn't have to hide its true nature," he chuckled as he reached toward the dog and fondled its ears. The thing really was adorable. Maybe ... maybe he'd have to try and convince his dad to get it for him. Even if he couldn't take it to school, it'd be worth it to have the dog every time he came home for a break, right? "I think I'm going to be begging my dad to come here with me once we leave," he admitted softly, not wanting to take his eyes off the small puppy. He shook his head as she continued to think of ways to change him into a cat. "Not gonna happen Brooke," he said, rolling his eyes at her. "First of all, what cat would we use for the potion? Second, I don't want to risk it on such a good dog." He rubbed the puppy's stomach. "Who's a good boy," he muttered happily. Man, where was his dad when he needed him?

“Oh relax. You know I wasn’t being serious right? Besides, I’m sure Hogwarts has some jinx or counterspell that wouldn’t let us get away with it anyway.” She said with a sigh. It would be awesome if dogs were allowed in school, but, for whatever reason, they weren’t, so it was with a heavy heart that she passed the creature back over to Jace to hold. “You really think your dad would let you get it and watch it for you while you’re in school?” she asked. If she asked her mom to do something like that, she was sure she’d get a lecture on how pets were a big responsibility and it wasn’t just something that she could get and pawn off on her parents to take care of when she wasn’t in a position to do so. The dogs that they had were family dogs and didn’t belong to anyone in particular, so their parents loved them and loved taking care of them. But she knew her parents would never go for what Jace was thinking about asking his dad to do. “It certainly would be better for him than just living in a kennel in the back of a dim pet store, wouldn’t it?” she asked, thinking that the sound of the hooting from the owl cages must have drove him insane.

Jace grinned when Brooke admitted that she wasn't being serious. Of course he knew that, but he also wanted to tease her into admitting it. It was more fun that way. He nodded, "I know you weren't being serious, and I'm sure you're right about that. If they don't have some way to detect the kinds of animals coming in, they wouldn't have any control over it at all." He took the puppy when she passed it over to him and shrugged a little bit. "I'm not sure. I guess it depends on the kind of mood he's in when I ask him? And whether or not my step-mother is okay with the idea. I'm sure Indie would help me care for him during breaks though ..." he trailed off, trying to think of the logistics of the thing. He really did want the dog though. He nodded as she talked about it being better for the dog. "Yeah, and he seems like a really good dog." He looked up at Brooke and smiled as he petted the dog and then slowly directed him toward the kennel. "I'll come back," he muttered as he closed the door on it and stood once more. "I guess we'll have to see what my dad says. You ready to ... wait, where were we going next?" he asked, remembering that they were going to do something before they got their wands. What was that?

Jace was reluctant to put the dog back in it’s cage, but he did anyway with a final pet and the promise of him coming back. Something that brooke always loved about Jace was that he always followed through on his word, or at least tried to, and that was a very admirable quality in a person, especially in a best friend. So Brooke wanted to tell the dog not to worry and that jace meant that he really would be back. She wouldn’t be surprised if he did manage to talk his dad into letting him adopt the dog, and Brooke hoped that it worked out because that meant she’d be able to see the dog over the breaks. “You’d take great care of a dog.” Brooke decided. Jace was young, and loud, and sometimes a little over the top, but overall, she knew that he’d also be responsible and loving and a great dog parent. “Uh, wand shop?” Brooke asked when he asked where they were off to next. She was excited to have her wand. She was sad about losing her first one, but she was excited to get to keep her new one and not have to turn it in this year.

As he was standing up, about ready to leave the dog, Brooke mentioned that he would take good care of a dog and Jace grinned at her. "I would take great care of this dog," he said in a teasing voice, pointing to the puppy he just put away. "Come on, let's go," he said, reaching over and touching her elbow to encourage her to come with him. He was ready to head out now. He didn't want to rush his time with Brooke, but he also didn't want to waste his time. He was nervous someone would come for that dog. He paused at the desk near the beginning of the shop. "I'll be coming back to take a look at that dog," he told the woman there. She smiled and nodded at him and then Jace left. "All right! Wands. So ... do you know where the wand shop is? I haven't seen it yet," he admitted as he looked over at his best friend. He was ready to get a new wand, even though he knew there was no way it could be the same as his first, he was excited about it.

Jace seemed really intent on getting that dog and Brooke wasn’t going to stand in his way, if his parents agreed to it then why shouldn’t he have the dog? He promised the sales lady that he’d be back to look at the dog and then Brooke followed Jace out of the pet store. It was a nice detour on their way to where they were actually headed, to go and get new wands. “I’m not sure, further down the Alley I think.” Brooke said, pointing her finger towards the crowd walking down the alley. “Here - come on.” she said, taking his hand again. The two of them were fairly small, even if he was taller than her, they were younger than most of the people in the alley and she didn’t want to get separated from him in the crowd. She lead the way along the Alley, searching for the shop sign that she had seen during her first trip to the Alley with her mom and brothers a few days ago. “Here!” she said, pointing to the giant sign reading Ollivanders outside of a shop, she pulled him inside.

Brooke said the shop they were going to should be down the alley a bit and he nodded, following her when she grabbed his hand. She was his best friend, so he didn't care about stuff like them holding hands, even in public. Especially since it was so crowded and he knew she was having a bit of a hard time being here. He just didn't care. He scanned the names of the shops as he followed her, trying to find one that mentioned wands or something. Wasn't it called something weird? Something that started with an O? Brooke found it and Jace glanced to the sign, smirking when he saw that it did start with an O. He was right, of course. They took a step into the shop and he looked around. The walls were lined with boxes and his eyebrows lifted slightly. They sure crammed a lot of wands into this small shop. It was kind of ... impressive and it looked cool. "Is anyone here?" he called softly. @aras (if you wanna jump in) @brooke

Aras was, as always, working in the back room, hidden away from sight from the outside. He had a bell on the door to his shop to alert him to customers, but it seemed like business was always better when he wasn't behind the front desk. He didn’t really understand why anyone would rather enter an unattended shop, but Aras wondered if it had something to do with the fact that he was a bit of an intimidating figure, given his height and all. He mostly took to staying in the back, in his workshop, until he heard the door open or someone call for him. He did indeed hear the door open, and stood up from his work station, pleased that he had been at a convenient stopping point when a customer had entered his shop. Aras ducked out of the back room and into the front of the shop. “I’m here.” He said pleasantly as he surveyed the two kids in his shop. “Are you here for new wands?” A lot of American transfers had been stopping by, and Aras wouldn’t be surprised if the pair were two more.

Brooke and her friend walked into the wand shop. The place was crammed from floor to ceiling with boxes of wands. Brooke couldn’t stop herself from letting out an audible gasp when she saw the shelves. There were so many wands! Was it possible that there were this many different types of wands? “Yes - we’re here for wands.” Brooke nodded when the man came out and announced his presence. Jace seemed just as into everything as she was. It was somewhat sat, Brooke thought, that they were here now replacing wands that they had already got and had bonded with for the last 4 years of their lives. But these wands, she thought also, would be the ones to carry them through, they’d have these ones forever, at least, hopefully. “Should we just try some then?” Brooke asked, half to Jace and half to the shopkeeper who had come up to help them. She had no idea where to begin. She picked up a box labeled "oak" and took the lid off.

Jace didn't really want to be impressed with this shop. He wanted to continue on with his opinions that everything American was better, but he'd honestly never seen a wand shop like this. In America, he got his wand at Ilvermorny, so it was entirely different from this experience. He couldn't keep himself from looking around, but turned his attention to the man who walked up and asked about them looking for wands. He nodded, but Brooke was the one to answer out loud.
He couldn't help but wonder if they had a specific way they were supposed to try wands here, like just choose a box and go or wait for the guy to get them one. He waited when Brooke asked and then followed her lead, picking up a box and opening it. It held a very nice-looking wand, and Jace moved to take it out of the box, but the moment he touched it, he knew it wasn't the right wand. It didn't feel right. He looked up at the man again and shrugged, putting the lid back on as he glanced over to Brooke. Did she find one already?

The girl confirmed that they were there for wands, which wasn’t much of a surprise. She asked if they just tried some wands, and Aras chuckled. “It might work better if you let me take your measurements first.” Aras replied, slightly amused by how willing the girl was to come tramping into his shop and immediately touching extremely valuable, extremely breakable things. Of course, that amusement would fade the moment she actually broke one of the extremely breakable things, but he figured that wands were meant for trying, anyways. And the measurements were more for giving Aras a time to observe his subject unhindered to see if there were any obvious personality traits present. The girl was already exhibiting plenty of those, though. “That one probably won’t work for you.” He added, looking at the wand in the box. It was too short for the girl, by at least an inch, and he had a feeling that someone with her level of tenacity wouldn’t do well with oak, which was generally more grounded and less willing to change. Aras was distracted from his consultation, though, by one of the boxes on the shelf behind him flying open, a shower of silver sparks emitting from the tip of the wand within. Aras wasn’t surprised to see on the label that the particular wand was made of vine – they tended to be the most sensitive to the presence of the wizard or witch that would become their owner. Aras didn’t bother capping the box again, but turned to the boy, who hadn’t yet spoken to him. “I believe this one belongs to you.” He said with a smile.

Brooke knew better than to ask before she touched such valuable things, but she couldn’t help herself. They were so pretty and she was so excited and curious. She found herself slipping back into her own self, before the move shifted her world. Before she found herself and her life turned upside down. The shop owner spoke up pretty quickly once she took the lid off of the box. He insisted that he take her measurements first and then quickly told her that the oak wand probably wouldn't work for her. How could he possibly know that? She wondered as she put the lid back on the box and slid it back into its place on the shelf. “Sorry.” she said politely. He was an expert, she assumed, but still. He couldn’t look at someone and know what wand they needed, could he? As he spoke, a box flew off the shelf and down to them, coming up to Jace. the shopkeeper insisted that the wand was his and Brooke watched in disbelief. She had never seen anything like that happen before.

Jace wasn't really paying attention to what the store owner was saying, to be totally honest. He was more overwhelmed by all the boxes in the room. They lined the walls, the shelves, and he didn't think he'd ever seen so many wands in one place at one time. After looking at a wand that was definitely not for him, Jace stared around. He thought he heard something about measurements and Brooke apologized as Jace looked at a box that stood out to him, for some strange reason. It was on the shelf behind the store owner, and his eyes widened when it flew open and a bunch of sparks shot out. Was that normal wand behavior? Then Jace's attention turned to the man as he spoke with a smile. Jace's eyes widened even more. "Really?" he asked, though it was more out of awe than a question. He stepped closer, taking the box and smiling as he picked up the wand. Suddenly a warm, good sensation flooded through him and he grinned up at the shopkeeper. "It definitely does," he responded, filled with new excitement. He had his own wand, and this time he wouldn't have to leave it at school during breaks.
He turned to Brooke and smiled. "Look, Brooke," he said, lifting his wand so she could see it as well.
