overall personality:
blair considers themselves a pureblood prince, and it’s obvious in the way that they act. blair is overconfident at the best of times, and downright cocky at the worst. they don’t take time to second-guess anything – they act first and think second. their self-assuredness can lead to them being rather brusque and unwilling to listen to opinions different from their own – a perfect storm when it comes to creating the perfect pureblood. this isn’t to say that blair is ignorant; their ravenclaw sensibilities lead them to seek knowledge even more than the average person, but what they look for obviously isn’t information that contradicts their opinion.
what does blair look for? well, they have a fascination with death and dying, and while magic has never found a way to raise something from the dead for real, blair is fascinated with the topic. blair knows that their obsession with death is deemed macabre and sometimes cruel, so they try to keep it out of most polite conversation, but the moment someone enters blair’s inner circle, they should be expected to be inundated with information about experiments and tomes about the long-abandoned art of necromancy.
some of blair’s fascination with death has bled over into a fascination with killing. they aren’t bloodthirsty, but they also won’t hesitate to start a fight if the situation calls for one. blair has a mind for war in every sense of the word. their physical aptitude for fighting isn’t far above average, but they have a mind for tactics, and any good general knows that tactics are the key to winning a war. some might call it manipulation, and declare that blair belongs in slytherin instead of ravenclaw, but blair never has to try to sway the other side in their favor – they just make use of the weaknesses already exposed. because of their mind for tactics, blair is also overly aware of their own weaknesses and faults, and tries to hide them as best as they can.

history:
the pureblood pucey family was supposed to remain in britain until it died out; it was the will of blair’s grandfather, and their father, too, but after adrian pucey left hogwarts, he understood that staying in britain would be suicide. the puceys had been outspoken about their views about blood purity, and equally vocal about their unwillingness to submit to anyone, even he-who-must-not-be-named. it was because of this that adrian was sent to the continent – germany, to be exact – while his parents remained behind, to die at the hands of death eaters before the war was finished.
despite the departure from what he planned, adrian pucey lived a good life, with a good wife – and that is where blair entered the story. adrian and patricia weren’t in love, but their union wasn’t built on love; just a mutual fondness and the knowledge that they had to carry on pureblood lines. blair was born into a family where they were very much wanted, a male heir to a family that would have died out without one, since adrian was an only child. their upbringing was not exactly a typical one, since the pucey fortune was locked up in a bank hundreds of miles away and adrian thought they were better off that way, but blair was happy enough with having the run of the small manor home in germany and being the apple of their parent’s eye.
blair was less happy when their younger brother came along. sharing attention wasn’t something that they were used to doing, and as a toddler, they simply didn’t understand why their parents needed another child. (when they were older, blair understood that their younger brother was an insurance policy, in case they failed to produce an heir or decided to rebel against the system.) but that was irrelevant at that point, and blair, though just a child, began to rebel in little ways… most notably by “accidentally” killing their mother’s beloved pet rat when they were five.
that moment was the moment when blair began their bizarre obsession with death. even though they had wanted the intention from their mother, blair had seen how sad the animal’s death had made their mother, and they thought, for just a moment, that they might be able to undo their mistake. necromancy wasn’t a term that blair was familiar with, since they were still just a child, but that planted a seed in them that would be carefully grown until they were eleven.
though they grew up in germany and considered themself german, when blair was eleven, their father moved the family back to britain, saying that blair and their brothers would received their education at hogwarts or not at all, and that it was easiest to go to hogwarts if you lived on the british isles. blair didn’t understand the politics behind the move, and if they were honest, they were rather put out that they had to leave. blair quickly changed their tune, though, when their father reclaimed the pucey fortune. they went from a comfortable lifestyle to an extravagant one, and it was like a dream they’d never known they had came true. blair grew comfortably into the role of a pureblood prince in the months before he departed for hogwarts.
being at school was… an experiment for blair. they had never had much interaction with people outside of their family, and suddenly being surrounded by people they didn’t know was shocking. more shocking than the people, though, was the library. the pucey family had books, but nothing like the hogwarts library, and that was when the seed that had been planted in blair’s youth began to grow. they began to research – at least, as much as an eleven-year-old could research – what kind of magic would allow people to be raised from the dead. there was precious little information on the subject, and it seemed every author had been quick to give up, and say that it couldn’t be done, as if they could command everyone else to stop looking. necromancy became blair’s raison d’être, and they spent the next five years in school trying to scrounge anything and everything about it up. there were also people there, a few acquaintances and perhaps a friend, too, but blair wasn’t as concerned with the people as they were with the research.
and then people started dying, and suddenly blair’s project wasn’t just personal. people were desperate to know if their friends could be revived, and blair put their nose against the grindstone, trying their best to find something that would raise the dead. failure after failure made them irritable, and blair tried not to snap at people that their stupid mudblood friend didn’t need to come back from the dead anyways. blair was a blood purist – of course they were – but they had qualms about joining the purifiers. their father had always said that puceys bowed to no one… but then again, it was because of that attitude that blair’s grandparents were dead and blair had grown up in germany instead of england, so they were disinclined to believe that joining up would somehow make them weaker.
blair found an in to the purifiers before their sixth year started, but they were sorely disappointed with the results. they understood the need for caution, but the triwizard tournament felt like the perfect time to do something. blair wasn’t necessarily jealous they were too young to compete – they were fair at dueling, but would rather continue their research than do something that was basically frivolous like the tournament. in any case, it wasn’t the lack of being chosen that annoyed blair, but rather that, in the end, the purifiers weren’t the ones who stirred the pot, but some french terrorist group. blair tried not to lament the deaths too much, especially since death was still fascinating to them, and they needed to move on with their life.
“moving on with their life”, to blair’s parents, meant finding them a wife. blair had never mentioned to their parents that they didn’t exactly feel like a boy – too worried that their little brother would be chosen as the backup plan if they did – and had agreed to spend the summer looking for someone to marry when the time came. other than that, blair’s plans for the future are vague, at best. they want to continue their research, and find someplace they’ll be happy working, and make the world more pure.
