Scorpius didn't care that brunch was a super stereotypical thing for well-to-do young people. There were really good frittatas, and mid-morning mimosas were a remarkable Muggle creation that he fully endorsed. And spending time with Liona just made it better.
Which is how he came to be sitting in a bustling Horizon Alley restaurant with his favourite cousin, asking in a drawl that only came out when he was pretending to be pretentious, “so, six hundred galleons on a girl you're already dating?”

Things were going seemingly well for Liona. Her internship was great. Jamie was great. Living at home was still, surprisingly, great. She didn't have any complaints so far. Minus the fact, of course, she hadn't seen her dearest cousin since graduation. Scorpius Malfoy had graduated and, from what she'd heard, gone on to become a cursebreaker with Gringotts. Of course she'd known about his interest in cursebreaking and she'd had no doubts about the fact that he would get a job with Gringotts to train for cursebreaking. It just would have been nice to hear it from him. He was her favorite cousin after all and arguably one of her favorite people in the world. She'd been sad about not seeing him. Which is why she found herself sitting across from him in a restaurant located in Horizon Alley, catching up and talking about their lives when he decided to teasingly interrogate her about her most recent decisions. "I absolutely did. And it has more than one benefit," she grinned at him. The six hundred galleons he was referring to had been in donation to the newly created foundation in Elias Greyback's name. Elias had been caught in the attack on the Durmstrang ship and had died in the explosion. "The Zabinis are very charitable and it's a great foundation that needs a little bit of help. They wouldn't ask for money if not," she explained first before she turned a bit serious, a very small blush dotting her cheeks, "And I wanted to help Jamie. There was no use bidding on any of the other players anyway. Jamie was the only one I wanted a date with."

”Of course it’s an excellent foundation, a Slytherin founded it in memory of her brother. Nothing beats those kind of intentions.” He waved that explanation away, hand fluttering perilously close to his drink. It was a perfectly good reason to donate, and little Maxima Greyback had played a good game of chess. ”But six hundred Galleons has all the subtlety of a raging Erumpent. It was a gamble and a half to go public with your relationship like that. Not a classic Liona move at all. Are you sick? Do I need to be worried? You are looking a little flushed,” he teased, trying to make her blush harder. Merlin, but a month out of the dungeons and he hadn't realized how much he missed spending time with his cousin. She was the best. And it was a delight to be able to tease her for a change, because he'd gotten it just as bad (deservedly, but still) for months over Rose.

Liona nodded her head and kept a straight face as Scorpius talked about the foundation because an excellent one though she couldn't entirely agree. It was done with good intentions, she had no doubts about that, but it also felt as if it was done impulsively. As far as she knew, Maxima Greyback was the only person running things, with Jamie helping out when she could. Organization was key when it came to foundations such as the one being created. That was besides the point though. He continued on saying that it was a gamble going public with her relationship in that manner. "Public? For all the public knows, she's a classmate I knew in school. Not that I would mind going public but I don't think that constitutes as us going public," she commented in amusement. Then again, they did go public at the Room of Requirement party that Lily Potter threw together. She didn't think anyone actually remember that though. Someone had spiked the punch. When her cousin mentioned that not being a classic Liona move, the blush left her cheeks and she became a bit quiet. He was absolutely right. It wasn't something she would normally do. But the way she felt... she ignored the way her heart jumped into her throat and chuckled a bit. "And standing under a giant tree in the courtyard of Hogwarts is definitely a classic Scorpius move," she said changing the subject and yet not, referring to his escapades during the Yule Ball. "I'm certain you would do the same for Rose Weasley."

Liona denied that her bid was going public, but Scorpius didn’t agree. “School friends don't usually bid 600 Galleons on each other. 40, 50, maybe. People will ask questions, it's as good as.” Add in the fact that Jamie was the sister of the namesake of the foundation, and it was impossible that people weren’t taking note. He wouldn’t bet against it being in Witch Weekly or something next edition.
But apparently he’d struck a nerve, which was far less enjoyable, because Liona stopped blushing and put him in the hot seat. He shifted uncomfortably. “Yes, well. Literally the whole world knows I'm stupid about Rose Weasley.” It wasn't like he could disagree, because most of the time he would have said it was beneath him as a Malfoy to wait like that. But when it came to Rose, logic flew out the window and all bets were off. Hence the dramatic wait under a Christmas tree. “Unless you're telling me you're stupid about Jamie Greyback?” If that was the case, he was going to need another drink. He hadn't meant to bring up drama.

"My family is rich and philanthropic. People will see me donating the 600 and thinking that it is just because I want to look good, not necessarily because I'm dating her," she replied with a shake of her head and a laugh, "You see it that way because you know that I am dating her." Even still, it was like she had said before, she didn't mind being public with her relationship with Jamie. She just wouldn't do so before talking about it with Jamie. They could ask questions all they would like though. She rarely ever gave straightforward answers anyway and they couldn't coax it from her without paying a hefty price. Watching as he became a bit nervous had her smirking and taking a sip of her mimosa. Of course he was a fool for Rose Weasley, that was the point. He did things for her that he wouldn't normally do so it wasn't completely odd for her to do something like that for someone she cared about. Just like that, the spotlight was back on her and she gingerly placed her drink down. "Don't be so silly Scor. I don't think anyone can use the word stupid when referring to me." Her words came out too tight and her smirk was just off enough. She didn't know what she was when it came to Jamie Greyback. Could she even use the 'L' word? They hadn't even been dating that long and yet she felt like.. everything was just better when Jamie was around. She cared about her so much. "How is Rose Weasley by the way?"

"My family's rich and philanthropic, but I'm not spending 600 Galleons on a date with a Quidditch player," he pointed out. He hadn't even gone to the auction, lest he get into some terribly awkward situation that ended up with Rose hexing him for being an idiot. No, it hadn't been worth the risk. "I still say they'll talk, but if you don't care, then..." Scorpius lifted his drink in salute, and didn't finish the sentence, knowing that they were starting to hit a little too sharply.
"No, anyone would have to be stupid to call you stupid," Scorpius agreed placatingly, noting that her retort too was too tight, as sure a sign that her feelings towards Jamie were a little deeper than she actually wanted to admit as, say, standing dramatically under a Christmas tree had been for him. "Rose is doing well - she's at the Department of International Magical Cooperation, so perhaps you'll see her around the Ministry. Or do you spend so much time in those Unspeakable rooms that that's unlikely?"

Liona gave no further comment to his musings on her movement when it came to bidding on Jamie, though the urge to childishly stick her tongue out at him came over her suddenly. She didn't follow through with it. They were adults who had adult jobs now. And even if he didn't see it, she knew that what she'd done hadn't been that bad. It could have been worse. She could have bid more; they definitely had the money for her to do so. There were a million other things she could have done to make the situation worse. Bidding on Jamie wasn't that bad. She'd never known her cousin to be illogical though so she would seriously consider his words. When he wasn't around to give her an 'I told you so'. She nodded and took another small sip of her drink. He began talking about Rose Weasley and the fact that she was an intern at the Department of International Cooperation, something she hadn't known but wasn't surprised by. "I haven't seen her yet but I'm sure I will, too. Being able to enjoy my work means that I spend a lot of time there, yes, but I do come up for air eventually. Not to mention that the Ministry cafeteria has terrible food so I have to leave to find something decent to eat" she laughed. She hadn't really expected much from the cafeteria the first time she'd went. It had been a little worse than she'd expected though so she'd had to leave to get something else. It'd almost made her late too which she absolutely couldn't have since she was only an intern. Had to make her best impression. "Now that we've graduated do you still see her as often? Jamie's on a pretty tight Quidditch schedule but we make time."
