hello there, my name is Kisumi Moore but you can call me Mimi. i'm a Thunderbird & Ravenclaw and 16 so that makes me a sixth year at Ilvermorny - Hogwarts 2024/25. You could say I'm intelligent, knowledgeable, & witty but I personally think that I am rebellious, extroverted, & ‘rock and roll’. People say I look a lot like Asami Zdrenka, but I don't really see it...

Mimi is just about average height at 5’5”. While her hair is naturally black, she almost always has brightly coloured hair, frequently changing colours with a preference for blonde, pink, and blue. She also has a nose piercing (acquired with parental consent) which she glamours for class. Unlike her playby, she doesn’t have any tattoos (yet).

The most important thing to understand about Kisumi is that she’s in the midst of her teenage rebellion, and she knows it and has embraced it wholeheartedly. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll is her current opinion on the world. The most she’s done on the drugs front is alcohol, but still. If she can’t meet everyone’s expectations, then she might as well try to meet none of them. Fortunately, Mimi can do no wrong in her father's eyes. Or at least, so long as she doesn't permanently injure herself, get caught committing a crime, or destroy his ability to his job. She knows it too, and she’s used it to get away with some of her more rebellious moves.
Mimi could probably be a genius if she ever put the effort in, but she hasn’t in several years. She’s still smart, and coasts on that fact, and only works hard on the things she’s excited about. She’s generally lazy, which is only partly the teenage rebellion. The other part is just that it’s all so boring and she doesn’t think it’s worth her time. She’d rather spend her time focusing on the things that interest her, and when it comes to those she’s an absolute well of curiosity.
Mimi is also extremely personable. She likes being around people, doing things. She can’t stand being bored, and despite the fact that her aesthetic is all about the boredom, she’s enthusiastic and energetic. Even if she’s standing against a wall looking bored, her brain’s going a hundred miles a minute. In fact, that’s the only time you’ll see her still. If she was actually bored, she’d be moving - flying, running, fidgeting shamelessly - or finding someone or something to entertain her.

nonehistory:
Kisumi was the daughter Ian and Miyuki had almost given up on ever having. Her brother Minoru was already in school when Miyuki found out she was pregnant, and while they were delighted, it threw rather a lot into disarray. Miyuki had a difficult pregnancy, and there was no doubt that Kisumi would be the last child they had.
It's probably no surprise then that Kisumi was spoiled rotten as a child. Her every moment was videoed and cooed over for several years. It didn't help that she was precocious, walking and talking early, seeking approval constantly, and taking to her violin lessons like a fish to water. She was daddy's little princess in particular, so every trip her father took ended with a stuffed animal for her, and her collection was enormous.
Kisumi attended private schools in San Jose - only the best money could buy - where she was a star pupil in a room of star pupils. She was friends with almost everyone, reasonably well behaved (though she did have objections to being made to do repetitive math drills, the worksheets for which had a remarkable tendency to vanish or spontaneously combust), and a respectable athlete.
But on her eleventh birthday, the Moores received a visit from MACUSA, and a lot changed for Kisumi. Mimi had magic, and she would need to be trained in it. Kisumi was thrilled by the knowledge that she had magic, but less so about the boarding school. It would even be easy to pass off to the neighbours, because of course she’d be off to a fancy boarding school out East, but Mimi wasn’t convinced. Even reading about it, she tried to be excited, but she didn't want to move to Massachusetts and live in the tundra. She wanted to stay in the sun, by the ocean, with her parents. Ilvermorny was the best though, so come the beginning of September, off she went.
Whatever she had expected, it hadn’t included the thunderbird’s wings beating at the sorting ceremony. The crystal in the horned serpent’s head lighting up she had anticipated, but in a true sign that Thunderbird would be good for her, she was curious what the Thunderbird saw in her and joined that house. It was a good choice - even with the subtle No-Maj prejudices, she made friends quickly and took to magic with ease. She was right that Ilvermorny was constantly freezing cold, though. She got good at warming charms fast.
Once she was home for the summer though, things did not go so well. The people who were once her friends had moved on and ignored her. The seven year gap between her and her brother had become an unbridgeable gulf. She spent the summer desperately bored without magic, and increasingly acted out. That was the first time she bleached her hair, to her mother’s horror.
Back to school, Mimi was louder and more adventurous than the year before. She no longer tried to have patience in Potions, and her homework was spotty - when it was done it was phenomenal, but it wasn’t always done. Quodpot became her saving grace, a positive outlet for her energy, and proof that she was part of the magical world for those who doubted the No-Maj-born.
The constant back-and-forth wore on Mimi. She was perfectly comfortable with all of the technology that was the rest of her family’s bread and butter, but it stayed home when she went to Ilvermorny. And she had to leave her wand at school. It was a double life, and there were people in the magical world who hated that Mimi lived it - and so did she. So she found things that she could carry around in both, and the best of those was an attitude Mimi described as ‘rock and roll’.
She got really good at hair charms for school, and befriended a hairdresser in San Jose to keep up her habit of changing hair. Her clothes were frequently ripped and torn, leather jackets and bands that stopped performing before she was born. She ran off to San Francisco frequently, sneaking into the magical quarters and taking part in the celebrations for both magical and No-Maj San Francisco Pride. Her mother despaired, but her father doted on her still. Mimi’s not sure if he’s trying to compensate for something or relive his youth or something, but he came with her to get her nose pierced, so she’s not questioning it too much.
The attack on Ilvermorny was a bit of a mixed blessing for Mimi. Sure, her wand was destroyed, but it had been temperamental of late, like it no longer matched her the way it used to. And travelling to Britain would be cold, but she was pretty much used to it these days, and it would certainly be an adventure. It was made even better when her dad decided to take a three month trip to England for work to allow her to get used to England before class started. It was an escape from the stilted awkward summers that she could no longer enjoy. But as she’s not paid any attention to events to know about the purist actions in the UK, she might get a bit more than she bargained on in Hogwarts.
