Hadley really wished that their parents had thought of more interesting things to do over the summer. Their mother had promised that they were going to get to go to a water park before the summer was over, but that could mean that it was August before they got to go, and Hadley was bored now. Luckily their last excursion to Diagon Alley had gone unnoticed - and if not unnoticed, then at least unpunished, which meant that it was a-okay for Hadley to escape their house again for another round of exploration. This time Hadley wasn't going to do something as boring as sit around and read a comic. Comics were great, but Hadley could read them at home. When they were out and about they needed to make use of their time to have an adventure. Hadley was trying to think of something that wouldn't get them in legal trouble - they didn't have time to talk to pissed off shopkeepers or law enforcement officials. That would also totally blow their cover, which was not about to happen. Hadley continued to amble down the alleyway, kicking at any loose cobbles as they did so, trying to think of something to do.

This was both a great and terrible summer for Noel. Great because she got to spend the entirety of it away from her brainless mother and creepy ass step father. But terrible because it meant she couldn’t work. At least not the way she was used to. Another plus side was spending it with Noah. They lived on opposite sides of the US (about as far as you could get. Him in Hawaii and her from Florida.) so they didn’t really see each other during the break except for occasionally.
Still. Despite the pros to the trip it was difficult to stay busy. Noah was off doing something and basically leaving her to her own devices for the afternoon. She was standing outside one of th bookshops, eyeing the covers in the display-several of the books were foreign to her simply due to their European origin which made her curious, when a pebble bounced against her ankle. Glancing down at the bit of broken cobble stone and then glancing up and around at where it’d come she found only possible suspect. Another teenager, kicking bits of stone as they walked. Noel didn’t recognize them, which either made them older than she thought or one of the Hogwarts kids. At the very least though they looked bored to tears. ”I don’t think kicking rocks like that is going to entertain you at all.” she spoke up, bored enough herself that she didn’t hesitate to make conversation.
@hadley (You asked for an American kid XD)

Hadley hadn’t been paying attention to where the cobbles they were kicking were going – it wasn’t like they paid attention to anything beyond the action of the kicking, since that was what was distracting their very-distractible brain. They hadn’t even noticed that their cobble had hit someone else until they heard a voice, and put the pieces together. Hadley stopped, and then glared up at the girl. They did not like being told what to do, even if it was well-meaning suggestions to alleviate them of their boredom. This wasn’t even a good suggestion, because instead of telling them what to do instead, the girl just said that what Hadley was doing wasn’t working. Hadley glared at the girl, crossing their arms across their chest. “You got a better idea?” They asked, cocking an eyebrow.

This fellow teenager was glaring at Noel, an act that didn’t even make her bat an eye. She knew she wasn’t a very liked individual among her classmates. She was bitchy and harsh, with a habit of insulting faster then she complimented. Somehow she managed not to roll her eyes though in reaction, that was quite the accomplishment. At least they responded though, demanding if she had any better ideas. Now that was a question. Noel pursed her lips together, thinking. Before finally shrugging her shoulders. ”How am I supposed to know what you British people do for fun?” She finally answered. Hell, she didn’t even really know what most magical Americans did for fun away from school. Being no-maj born she lived in the non magical world when she wasn’t at school. That could be why she was so unproductive this summer. BEcause she was still trying to figure out just what people her age did. ”You a Hogwarts student?” She added after a moment, deciding to just get the question out of the way now.

Hadley wondered if people intentionally misinterpreted their statements sometimes. The girl they had asked about having a better idea asked how she was supposed to know what British people did for fun, but that hadn’t been the question. “I asked if you had a better idea, not if you had an idea of what we normally did.” Hadley returned, their voice slightly acidic. For someone who didn’t listen much, Hadley really didn’t have patience for people who didn’t listen to them, especially when there was something like their ability to do something interesting on the line. If anything, not knowing what people normally did should have given the girl more opportunities to come up with something cool, because she didn’t know what was “allowed” (a word that Hadley had problems with, since they thought basically everything was allowed if you didn’t get caught). When asked if they were a Hogwarts student, Hadley nodded. “Gryffindor.” They responded shortly.

Noel couldn’t help that smirk from crossing her lips at the other teenager’s sharp retort. They had some bite to them. Noel always liked people with a bit of an edge. Push overs were boring. ”You guys might not consider my idea better though.” was her retort as she turned and leaned against the wall, fishing a cigarette out of her pocket. IT was a bad happen, one she knew Noah didn’t like. BUt she didn’t care. He had plenty of bad habits she didn’t like.
She rolled the cigarette between her fingers when she heard the word ‘Gryffindor. That was one of the Hogwarts houses right? In history they’d talked about how the Ilvermorny house system was based off of Hogwarts. But she couldn’t remember which one ‘Gryffindor was at the moment. ”Which one is that one?” She finally asked, giving up on her own memory and deciding to ask instead. When the school year started all of the Ilvermorny students would be ‘sorted’ into new houses, and honestly Noel had no idea where she might go. Maybe she should have read a bit more about the HOgwarts houses.
