It was odd, being in such a new place - it was also pretty cool and interesting. But it was still very odd and Maxine wasn't yet one hundred percent on if she was looking forward to the next school year or if she was dreading it. On top of even being here and not going back to Ilvermorny for her sixth year - she was far from home and already was missing her horses. Of course they had their owls and their cat - Leo the lazy, he was with them - but her older brother was back home, so it was just their dad and her twin - But Mason had taken off eager to check out Diagon Alley, so now Maxine was left on her own.
Brown eyes darted around as she stood back, looking around at all the people. She was a little put off that all of these people seemed happy and fine - she had heard about the things that had been happening in England - the deaths and tradgedies. But here these people were acting like nothing was wrong and everything was so... normal. It was weird and kind of creepy if she was honest. She still wasn't sure if even being in England was a smart idea, how could it really be safe here after everything that had happened? Yet here she was - transfering to Hogwarts and currently living here.
She was still watching the crowd, glancing off occassionally to see if her brother was on his way back yet, when something caught her eye, It was a familiar face, barely seen through the crowd but for Maxine it was more than enough as she smiles and easily slips between the people in the crowd - not bothering to see if she had basically elbowed someone as she makes it through. Finally able to see the figure properly and recognize them.
"Brooklyn?"

Brooke had never before in her life felt so claustrophobic as she felt in London. In fact, she could almost say that she hated it. She hated being here. She missed her small town. She missed the weather and she missed her fishing boat. She missed her dogs and her father, she missed the crunch of the rocks under her feet as she walked near the freezing cold Gulf of Alaska. At least she had a majority of the people whom she cared about with her. Her best friends were here, and so wee both of her brothers and her mother. Her dad was back in the small wizard village, tending to the things back at home. She wished she was there with him. She asked if she could stay in Alaska for the summer, but her mom insisted the three of them needed to get to know the country and the students before they started school in the fall.
More than London, she hated Diagon Alley. It was so crowded and some of the people there were really rude, especially to the new American students who didn’t know their way around the alley yet. However, that seemed to be where she was forced to spend time. She was getting a little better about being in the alley without going into a panic attack. Anyone who knew Brooklyn knew that she was a confident person who loved adventure and rarely worried about anything, so being here and being so anxious was really weird for her. So much so that she almost wanted to ask her mom if she could see a healer about it.
As the tiny brunette walked through the Alley, she kept to the sides. She hated being in the center of the crowds and found it easier to navigate, or, just pop inside of a shop if it got to be too much for her. Brooke didn’t really have an agenda. She just couldn’t go back to her apartment yet. Her mom and brothers were somewhere around here. She heard someone call out her name and for a second she hoped it was one of them asking if she was ready to go home, though they had just got here, so she knew it was too good to be true. However, she turned around and saw a familiar face, for which she was thankful. “Hey Max! How are you? It’s good to see you.” Brooke insisted with a bit of a smile. Besides Jace, she hadn’t seen many of her friends yet, and it always made her feel better to see them.

London was taking time to get used to, she missed home. Sure she had her twin brother here with her, and their dad was also in England with them. But there was still so much back at home. She missed her older brother. She missed her horses. Usually at this point back at home she'd be spending most of the break having fun and riding her horses, she really missed the space and freedom that their property had. There were way too many buildings and way too many people. She had been bumped into and tripped over way too many times today - so far London was not filled with much in the fun department.
The weather was also something she was struggling to adjust to and that wasn't mentioning also that the people were a struggle. She had had people look at her like she was insane, or like she was speaking a language they had never heard of. Honestly she was starting to wonder if she was speaking a different language. Perhaps someone had cursed her or something when she wasn't paying attention. That was a bit of a worrying thought. She glanced around, eyes narrowing slightly as she looked out for her brother, hoping that her twin would come back from wherever he had run off to. Instead she ended up spotting a different person but still someone she knew and boy was she happy to see a familiar face.
She moved a bit closer, reaching a hand out as she spoke, "Hey Brooke!"
Maxine was thankful and honestly relieved to see a familiar face, and while she wasn't the closest with Brooke - she knew her well enough and it was a relief to see her. Not to mention that Brooke actually understood what she was saying, which in itself was a bit of a relief after starting to doubt that she was still speaking english. "It's good to see you too, I'm doing.. okay. Feeling out of place a bit but other wise okay." she gave a slight shrug, offering a small smile of her own, "What about you? It's a bit crazy here isn't it?"

Brooke had to admit, she felt a little relieved when Max admitted that she felt a little out of place here. Brooke felt very out of place. All of their classmates seemed to love it here, and it was rather amazing. London was a beautiful city, but it wasn't home. She had expected to spend her summer at home, but instead she had only got a week or two before she was on a plane traveling to a new country where she’d be for the next year. It wasn’t as thought she hated it here, but everyone already seemed to know everyone, and while Brooke was a social person, she was also someone who valued time to herself, away from the crowded alleys and busy streets in the muggle town. It was hard getting to know the British kids. They already had their friends and they already knew what house they were in. They already knew how Hogwarts was and what to look forward to. Brooke felt blindsided. And she was glad to hear that Max felt so too, at least it meant she wasn’t the only one not quite so thrilled with the move. “I completely know how you feel! I feel like I don't belong here at all.” she admitted. She was getting more and more used to it as the days passed, but it was still difficult. If she didn’t have Jace and other familiar faces, she wasn’t sure how she’d cope. “Honestly I was starting to feel like I was the only one not completely thrilled by the move to Hogwarts.” she sighed.

Maxine wasn't one to usually allow her worries and fears to slip through the cracks, honestly she mostly just tried to ignore them and push them aside. Talking about them though? It more often than not made her feel unlike herself - she felt out of place enough as it was, let alone adding in her admitting how she was feeling of all things. Feelings could be such a bothersome thing sometimes. London was - interesting for sure. But Max missed home far more than she was enjoying being in London. She wasn't built for some large city or place - she was a country girl at heart and she missed the wide open spaces that just didn't seem to be around here. Now she would be here for at least the next year - and she wasn't looking forward to Hogwarts as much as others seemed to be. Ilvermorny was her school and she doubted that Hogwarts could ever replace that at all. She had her twin brother of course, but Mason seemed to adjust to things like this a bit better than she did herself. As Brooklyn spoke she offered the faintest of smiles, nodding slightly before speaking up herself, "Yeah - I am completely out of place here - I'm a country girl, not some big city girl." she gave a small sigh, shrugging her shoulders as she fiddles with the zipper on her jacket, "I'm still not even sure why we are all going to Hogwarts - after things I have heard that happened there.. it doesn't sound so grand and safe..." Max wasn't too sure how much the other girl knew about the things that had been happening over here, but she assumed that she had at least heard a few things.

Brooke and Max hadn’t known each other well before, and they didn’t know each other well now. But, since they were all in this new, kind of scary place, Brooke felt a sort of kinship with anyone that had once shared the halls of Ilvermorny with her, even if they were in different years or different houses. Max was both in a different year and a different house, but here, now, in this moment and in this conversation, Max was one of Brooke’s best friends and brooke felt as if they had always been this way, even though she knew they obviously hadn’t and likely wouldn’t be always. “Oh I get it. More people can fit in one of these shops than there are people living in my town.” the Alaskan girl admitted. Saying that out loud felt like an exaggeration, however, it really wasn’t. “The city is completely terrifying.” Brooke agreed letting herself laugh about it instead of become upset at all. She was trying hard to laugh more. Seeing Jace the other day had really put in perspective how upset she had been and how that had changed her personality so drastically. Normally, an adventurous person who loved to explore and get lost, Brooke now was afraid to even take a different route home than what was normal and safe. She had never been that person before. “It’d be weird going anywhere now, with what happened to Ilvermorny and to the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students a few months ago…” Brooke sighed. Nowhere was safe. “I’m sure they’re bringing in extra security with the new students…” she shrugged.

Max couldn't remember a whole lot about Brooke, she did know her - of course she did, but not very well still. But knowing her well or not, didn't change the fact that Max was utterly relieved to find someone who is at least familiar to her in this crazy new place that they were in. As far as Max was concerned, in this moment - Brooke might as well have been her closest friend of all as Max smiled and nodded as she listened. Brooke spoke much of what Max herself had been thinking and feeling these past few days. "It's crazy. Almost like those fish that are stuffed into those tiny cans." She scrunched her nose slightly at the thought, Sardines had always been a weird thing in her mind, "All these people in these shops. I was going to get my wand today - but when I went to go into the shop it was crazy-packed." She gave a slight shrug, trying to push another smile out as the other girl talked.
"It's weird, changing schools like this. I want to be a bit more excited - you know? I mean, we get to carry our wands around with us at Hogwarts - thats kind of cool. But with everything that has happened its still weird, a little scary even and - Ilvermorny will always be my school as well." Max gave her own small sigh before shrugging her shoulders, "Maybe we need to make a list of all the cool things, or would that be weird?"

“Sardines, exactly!” Brooke said, letting out a genuine laugh, feeling, finally comfortable. However, the feeling began to fade away instantly as the voices of people around them came back into Brooke’s mind. There were so many people. Packed together so tightly. It wasn’t this way at Ilvermorny, and it certainly wasn’t this way at home. It was easy, at home, to go days, sometimes even weeks without seeing another person or another family. Even when Brooke went into Anchorage with her father when he would resupply his store, the city was small. There were cars and muggles everywhere, but nowhere was quite this cramped. She wasn’t sure if the alley was just very narrow, or if there actually were more people here than she had ever seen at one time anywhere else. “I got my wand a few days ago - If I hadn’t had Jace with me I wouldn’t have been able to do it.” Brooke admitted. Jace was her light. Jace was the good thing about being here. Jace was home and he made her instantly feel calm and okay. Jace made her feel like herself. She was so thankful for her best friend. “I can go with you if you want.” she decided. Only if Max wanted, of course, but Brooke didn’t have anything better to do and wanted to be there for the girl if she needed someone to help her like Jace had helped Brooke - even if Brooke herself was a mess.
“I think I might get more excited once we actually get to Hogwarts and settle in, you know?” At least them Brooke wouldn’t wake up in a strange apartment with her mother and brothers wondering if she was going to be forced to leave the house today. She’d be able to study and get into a routine. She wasn’t much of a studier, however, she figured that going back to classes and getting into a good rhythm with her new classmates would help them all settle in. “We could if you want.” Brooke nodded with a shrug.

Max gave her own small laugh, glad that she managed to make the other girl laugh. But it was also the truth - honestly just going into one shop earlier had made her feel almost sorry for a can of sardines! She offered a faint smile, glancing back at Brooke. She understood the feeling, "Yeah - today is the day for me. I just hope I can get a good wand, my last one was a good one - My brother was supposed to come with me, but he took off to explore instead of helping me find Ollivanders." At the offer she smiled, thinking for a moment before nodding - she would like the company, "That would be great. We could go now - I mean, if that is alright with you?" She didn't want to sound too eager - but at the same time, she doubted she'd even manage to find this wand shop on her own.
"That's true. I'm sure I will as well - right now though, I just have so many questions and several concerns. It's probably going to be different though when we are actually there." She gave a slight shrug, rolling her shoulder before tilting her head at Brooke, "Maybe we can do that, it might even be a little fun - I mean, there are some things I am looking forward to as well, what about you? Anything you have heard about Hogwarts that has you excited?"

Brooke’s acquaintance told her that her brother was supposed to go with her but instead had taken off to explore and Brooke nodded her head, showing that she understood. Brooke herself had two older brothers, both of which were here and eager to be here. They brushed off any of Brooke’s anxiety as just being a kid, though Brooke wasn’t sure why they weren’t understanding that something would have to be really wrong in order for Brooke, who was normally very outgoing and adventurous, to now suddenly be anxious and scared and closed off. “A feeling I know well.” she agreed with an eye roll towards the brothers mentioned. “Sure - if I remember, it’s just down the lane here.” Brooke pointed down the alley. She began to lead the way. Since she had been there once and knew what to expect, she felt a little better about going back, and, the fact that she wasn’t alone in her feelings made her feel a little better. She liked to be strong to help those who needed help, that was the typical Brooke, and knowing that someone might need her, helped her get back into her normal head space.
As they walked, Max suggested that they continue to entertain the idea of making a list of things that they were looking forward too. And Brooke felt herself slipping back into her anxious state. What was she looking forward too? At the moment, literally nothing. “If I’m honest, the only good think I can see in the situation right now is that Jace and Indie and all of my friends and classmates are here too.” she shrugged, not wanting to be a downer, but also being a very honest person. “I guess it’s cool that we get to keep our wands during the summer.” she added, not wanting to end on such a low note.

Max's brother - he was so hyped to be here, it made Max wonder if he missed home at all with how happy he had been since they arrived. Still - she wished to be even a little more excited such as Mason was, perhaps it would make missing home a little easier if she was enjoying being here a little more. She gave a smal lsmile, a slight shrug following as she nodded at the words, seems perhaps they shared this feeling. "I've seem to have gone in circles quite a bit so even a little help would be a huge thing... " she hated asking for help unless it was utterly required - but she knew Brooke, at least a whole lot more than anyone else she had run into, so asking and accepting her help was a lot easier for the usually stubborn girl. She nodded and moved, easily falling into step with her as they moved towards the alley pointed out.
It was tough, being somewhere so different than what she was used to, even the weather here was hugely different than she was used to back home. "Yeah - that's probably one of the few things I'm looking forward to, being able to see my friends and well - I've heard most of my classmates will be also transfering.. which could be a good and a bad thing." she gave her own little shrug at the thought, there were a few classmates that she wasn't sure she honestly wished to see too soon. "I heard we also get to carry them at school though - what about the sorting? Have you heard anything about that at all yet?" If she was honest, she was a little curious about it herself, "All I have heard is its different from Ilvermorny.. and it involves a hat.." she shook her head a little confused by that fact.

Brooke shook her head when the girl asked about the sorting. “No, to be honest, I haven’t talked to any of the Hogwarts students yet - they all seem a bit intimidating, Hard to approach.” Or maybe it was just her that was building it all up in her own head. She had talked to a few of them at the party that Jace had dragged her to, but she hadn’t really talked to them much. They seemed more interested in some of the more fun things, like running into the freezing cold ocean and drinking the punch, which Brooke was fairly sure had been spiked. She hadn’t even thought to ask them about the school. Not to mention anything specific. “A hat? What does the hat do? Change color depending on where to put you?” it seemed a bit silly that they would be sorted by a hat, but she supposed that everyone school had their own silly things. “Yeah, we can just have our wands always, I really like that. I’m already quite attached to mine.” it reminded her of home. The two approached the wand shop.

Maxine gave a short nod, she understood that it might be a little difficult, while Max herself wasn't usually one to sit back - she herself had found it a bit of a struggle herself, "Yeah - if it helps, I'm a little lost there myself. I haven't really met anyone new from Hogwarts - well there was one girl, but she was kind of a blind date so it was a little odd - other than that, ts just my usual - familiar faces I guess. Like you." She offered a smile and a slight shrug, "Maybe we can try and meet someone new together, might make it a little easier." Max made the slight offer, perhaps it was also to help herself out - but Brooke was nice enough and Max was always willing to help out those she liked.
At the questions about the hat, Max let out a slight giggle and shook her head, "Yep... a Hat. Honestly I haven't a clue - Mason was coming up with weird ideas about it, and I asked a few people - but they just said varying answers of 'its a surprise' or something. I hope its not too weird, but - it is at a school called Hogwarts.. so who knows, at least we will get sorted together right?" She was feeling in a bit better spirits than she had before bumping into Brooke now, "I hope my new wand will be a good one, do you know if the wands are different here? I mean - you have yours right? Are the woods or cores different?" she was a little curious about this, although she'd rarely admit it, it facinated her a bit - some of these differences that were in the magical world.

“Maybe.” Brooke nodded when Max began to suggest that they could meet someone new together. Breaking it down, Brooke wasn’t afraid of meeting new people or being in this new place so much as she was just freaked out by the sheer number of people around her at all times. It constantly felt like the alley was closing in on her and she couldn’t breath. At the beach for the party they had all been invited to, with the open air and more space around her, Brooke felt herself slipping back into her normal, happy-go-lucky, energetic and adventurous self. “I’m sure we’ll meet plenty of them before too long.” Brooke added, she didn’t really feel the desire to go out of her way to meet anyone now, since soon they would all be at school and would be forced to co-mingle.
Brooke was asked if the wands were different here and Brooke shrugged. “I think so, I mean, there are a lot of them, probably thousands in the shop. Mine is Sitka Spruce, which grows all over the northern parts of the world. But Jace’s is vine, and I don’t know if vine is very native to England.” Brooke shrugged. “I’m sure it’s all dependent on the wizard.” she concluded as she lead Max into the shop and it’s towers of wands.

Honestly Max wasn't completely eager to meet all that many new people. She had been fairly content to stick with those that she knew well, prefering to be around those she knew what to expect from and those that she actually did trust. Now she found there were so many people around that she didn't know at all - and that, well - that made her feel uncomfortable and she didn't particularly like that feeling what so ever. But she was glad that Brooke was now feeling a bit better - the other girl seemed to be mostly back to her usual self and that was making Max feel a little better herself. "I'm sure the train ride will help us with that part, apparently thats how we're going to get to Hogwarts." She gave a slight shrug before humming slightly in thought.
"That sounds interesting.. but what about the cores? I mean - I wouldn't be surprised if some we have in America weren't here. And they surely have some that we don't have back home. I mean.. do these wand makers make theirs the same as ones back home do?" It was curious to think of and Max quickly quieted herself a little embarrassed by how she had babbled on a little. Instead she kept up, quickly slipping into the shop behind Brooke, her eyes curiously taking in the inside of the wand shop. "Oh wow..." she mumbled the words.
